Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

I'm going up to 5mg on Saturday, fingers crossed for minimal side effects!

Hope you have minimal side effects. 5mg absolutely floored me!

I'm finding that I'm getting hungry, but then when I eat I don't eat anywhere near as much. I'm skipping breakfast completely, so don't eat until anywhere between 1-3pm. Once again half my dinner has gone in the bin this evening, I really must learn to put smaller amounts on my plate!!

ForPeachSake · 03/03/2025 18:43

Third questionnaire submitted on Saturday, payment taken today and I have just had confirmation that I am staying on 5mg which is what I requested, as I am going on holiday the day after I start my new pen, so don't fancy any new side effects on a 10hr flight!

Mazd323 · 03/03/2025 18:55

3rd 5mg jab done and questionnaire filled in. I stated no side effects and my losses have been quite consistent although have gone down slightly so it'll be interesting to see if they keep me on 5mg or move me up to 7.5mg.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 03/03/2025 23:09

Wahooo gooduck Red!
Yay ForPeach! Good luck on the flight! Have a fab time.
Yay Mazd.

I'm curious what their rational is! I'm worried about going up more and eating too little and affecting my motabalism although I don't really understand at what point it's just weight loss and what point its concerning!

Has anyone noticed a change in their spending patterns since using WLI? I had generally been a bit of a spendthrift, money burning a hole in my pocket but for the first time in many years, that’s not happening. I think the hormonal impact of WLI is positively impacting my impulse control in that way too.

Yes, I have general self control in stacks now and there's something I would have blew money on I don't. I honestly think it's about seeing clearly and being able to properly measure the impact of a decision and see it end to end. I couldn't really do that before, all that was there was a big haze.

MJ unclouded the mind to make good decisions all round.

@OneAzureMaker
Use a smaller plate, I've found that really helps.

Needtomust96 · 04/03/2025 09:42

So they prescribed me 5mg after minimal weight loss... which I'm not happy about, thinking I might try and cancel my subscription. If I was privately paying this, I could choose my dose.

I use the same plate as my children now. A smaller dinner plate and It's perfect..

Oh no! I've been slightly worried about this myself in case I wasn't happy with my loss.

I'm sure I read that if you cancel for any other reason than a medical reason (physically or emotionally being unable to continue) you are liable for all of the subscription charges to be paid up front, so think carefully about how you word that email so that your reason can fall within those terms.

As we're here for a year I'd expect to spend a couple of months on each dosage at least. I think the maximum offered is 12.5mg. Did you see the same?

Needtomust96 · 04/03/2025 11:26

@Earthgirl3971
I'm not concerned about that. As far as I'm concerned there was nothing in the ts and cs explaining we wouldn't have the option to increase the dose and given a choice. I could buy 5mg from lots of others providers with discount codes for not much more than £99 and not be tied into a year's contract. I was told £99 with no change with dose increase, nowhere did that say we couldn't increase if we wanted to!

It's in the terms and conditions for the adherence program that you cannot request for higher or lower doses of medication. I've done a screen shot for you.

Curious to know what they prescribe you! I've just had my second refill approved & they are keeping my on 5mg (about 5kg total loss down to 95kg - but slower loss in recent weeks - no side effects). I think I'm happy they've taken the decision out of my hands this time as I'd have been tempted to increase dose, & probably it's best to stay lower for a bit longer.

Needtomust96 · 04/03/2025 11:48

@Earthgirl3971 is this from the app or the website?

There's nothing on the app, I looked there first and then I went to the website and looked at 'terms' which is all the way at the bottom of the page and very tiny.

Our £99 programme is called the adherence program. So when you read that link through take note of all the terms for this, as these are the ones that apply to our subscription.

@Earthgirl3971 Oh dear, what a mistake. If I'd known we had no say in our dose, I would never have signed up.

Needtomust96 · 04/03/2025 12:41

Okay so I think I've been a bit hasty, I have spoken to a really lovely gentleman who said he would make a note on the system that I'd like to increase next month. They do tend to keep you on 5mg unless you aren't making progress, but as I had made some progress, albiet small, they kept me on 5mg. I guess my main concern is that I've really had to 'work' for it and the suppression hasn't been there. Just thought I'd update, that actually shemed have been really helpful.

bertieallsort · 04/03/2025 15:32

I’m on W3D2 & I’ve lost 9lbs so far! My suppression is high but it has surprised me how quickly I feel full too, it’s definitely made me realise just how bad my portion control was before though.

Using smaller plates has helped with the mental side of things, especially when you’re trying to shake off the years of conditioning that you need to ‘clear your plate’. I’ve found making sure I’m taking smaller bites helps with any indigestion symptoms & I do feel like I’m enjoying & appreciating the taste of what I’m eating now too.
I put some pyjamas on the other night that I hadn’t worn for a few weeks & they felt looser which I wasn’t expecting so quickly but I think a part of it seems to be that I don’t feel as bloated as I did before.

Kaggi9 · 04/03/2025 18:22

I’m halfway through my first week on 5ml and I think I’ve been incredibly lucky. The only side effects seem to have been incredibly dry, cracked lips! I was dreading it after reading what people had said, and grateful that nothing happened as I was away last weekend!

fingers crossed everyone else is ok!

bluesmartie83 · 05/03/2025 07:19

Just had my 3rd 5mg jab today and filled in the questionnaire. I felt in control until Monday when I had to start to fight the snacking urge! It seemed to just appear out of nowhere and last night I really could have sat and eaten the fridge! It was easier to ignore but the constant thoughts were in my head. Weightloss has slowed to a stable and sustainable 2lbs a week for the last few weeks which I am happy about - I've usually given in by now. I'm disappointed with myself that I have let the Pilates fail a bit but I'm thinking trying to do it every day was a bit of my old way of thinking - the all now approach and maybe 3 times a week is more manageable! No real side effects except the tiredness for a few days which is manageable but does mean I have to adjust my work to accommodate easier tasks when my brain is in a go slow! Let's have a great month - the sun is shining!!

tinyemmy · 05/03/2025 08:06

First jab of my second 5mg pen today. Still feeling good suppression to the end of the pen, we will see how it is when I'm on third jab.
I lost 10.6lbs on 2.5mg and 9.8lbs on 5mg 20.4lbs in total! I've never been able to lose like this before.
In 2024, I put on a stone and lost just over half a stone, ending higher than I started
2023 I put on and lost about a stone and a half, but still higher than I started,
2022 I put on and lost about a stone, higher than I started
2021 I lost a stone and then put it back on again
2020 I lost half a stone and put on a stone and a half!
2019 I lost half a stone and put on a stone
2018 I got my scales so this is when my data starts, I put on half a stone after buying the scales 🤣
The last bit of the graph is wrong as I went back up to Obese at the end of 2024 but renpho changed its app and it stopped auto-sending to the libra app for a bit. What you also might not see is that on the way down I'm weighing daily, on the way up I rarely weigh. The key I think is to weigh often and pull the trigger quickly, I know that but ignored it and I also don't go on the scales after binge eating and there was a lot of that going on.
I've never consistently been able to sustain weight loss like this (the constant ups and downs of other losses Vs the straight down of this time), but also my data shows that I've never maintained either so that will be what I'm most interested in, when I get there!

I was pretty clear when I signed up that the dosing would be up to them as part of the study. I don't think we can expect to pay the lesser amount but demand to be in control of our dosing, outside of experiencing lots of side effects. I think part of the issue with these jabs is that a lot of info is being absorbed through social media which is shaping our approach to it - on there people are treating it as some kind of supplement, rather than medication. I wouldn't want to choose my own dose of antibiotics or immuno-suppressant drugs, for example.

JBJ · 05/03/2025 12:35

Well, I started my 5mg on Monday and have had no nasty side effects yet. Also got little to no hunger suppression unfortunately. It's also coincided with starting antibiotics and steroids for a nasty chest infection, so not sure if it's these meds making me hungry, or the new dose of MJ that just isn't doing much - hopefully not the latter else it's going to be a long month! I'm back to thinking about food constantly 😩

Mazd323 · 05/03/2025 15:21

@FeverDreamer just to let you know I've been prescribed another 5mg pen today.

Steroids can make you ravenously hungry, wishing you strength!
