Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

Thank you 🌸

I’m not sure on the time yet as I don’t think il be able to jab in the morning 4am as 3 of my 5 kids are up eating too
i think I’ll take it in the evening before sleeping and do the check during the daytime

i understand your point about ‘cheating’ i do respectfully disagree though . For me it’s essential medication and it’s essential for my overall wellbeing so no guilt attached. The same as if I was taking meds for a different issue.

i know that insulin breaks a fast but i wonder if MJ falls into the same category if taken during fasting hours - will do some research before Tuesday

❤️

Wholeheartedly agree 💯, glad you are seeing it that way. I hope it goes well for you, please keep us posted!

Right... First thoughts on the 5mg.

How does anyone manage to eat? Suppression is insane!

OK side effects wise, low level headache, eggy burps and v cold.

OneAzureMaker · 01/03/2025 16:11

What are others non weight loss wins?

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden well done on the looser dress.

I wrapped myself in a towel post shower this morning and there was no gap in the middle over my tummy!!!

First jab of 2nd 5mg pen and a bit of an upset tummy and so, so tired, but nowhere near as bad as it has been.

I wore a dress I haven't worn in 3 years to work yesterday. It's a size 18 and I've been in size 20 for 2 years now, a year before that was just denial and feeling too fat for my size 18 clothes. Yesterday the dress felt roomy, and it's wool, fitted with no stretch 🤯

On the flipside of this all my pants are all falling down.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 01/03/2025 21:20

@bertieallsort Well done with the gym I am so impressed! And yes its when you do the 3rd questionnaire that it triggers the next prescription.
@SnowieBear Little meals! I've personally tried to do 3 a day even if small to get my body into a routine but I think some people don't. I no longer snack at all since 5mg.

@OneAzureMaker Yes I'd love to hear more about people's non weightloss wins! ANd wahoooooooooooooooooo for the towel! This is happening! It's so exciting to see change and to have hope. I think this is magic in itself after so long of believing things can't change.

Yay for smaller clothes already Bruh!!! Time for new pants...

Same! I did my first 5mg jab on Thursday and seemed fine but yesterday and today, I’ve had so little appetite. I’ve been really busy today and very active, I would normally be snacking left, right, and centre. Not today!

I was worried about side effects but aside from nightmares (I seem to have the same a day or so after my jabs), I’m all good (so far!).

I react similar to you in the first day of so.. that's how I know it's working for me.

As for eating: I fancy loads of fruit salad and veg but fried food is now my nemesis. In meal times my portions are small by the Friday evening (I inject on Thursdays) so my suppression is sky high over the weekends. But I nibble when I fancy , I'm trying to think like a healthy/ slim person. What would a healthy person eat... To change my mindset over time.

I do worry I'm not eating enough calories but I know deep down that over time it'll be ok as my body will get used to the lower amounts of good food and I'll be like every other person around me that has a lower weight because they make better choices with food.

I've loved wrapping myself in a towel and being able to tuck it in! And exploring some of my smaller tops that haven't fitted me in years as my tummy was so big and distended.

It's feeling good.

Your underwear is falling down?

Time for new pants indeed! 😁 That's an incredible amount of loss for just a few weeks. Well done. 🙌

Though my body shape is changing visually, it doesn't yet show in my measurements! Odd. My partner says I need new jeans though I want to hang onto these until they go so baggy. Hehe.

W7D2. Just done my 2nd refill question & didn't realise they'd removed the question they had the first time about whether I'd be happy to move dose. Was waiting for that, so didn't write anything in the final "is there anything you'd like to add" box.

Curious to see whether they'll move me up or keep me on 5mg. Haven't really had any side effects (minor hair loss) & have lost about 5.5kg in total (now weighing 95.2kg).

I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do as the loss had slowed this week (0.1kg!) - but was happy losing ~1kg a week & keen to stay around that level & not too much more. Trying to do some weights 1 or 2 times a week which I enjoy.

Have been having a bit of a negative food association the last week's & almost forcing myself to eat so I don't miss out on things I using enjoy (even though I've been full) - so a bit of work to do changing my mindset a bit.

Bananaramram · 02/03/2025 10:17

Jab seven on Friday and I’ve ordered my next pen - they’ve given me 5mg, which I’m happy about! I did wake up with a wicked headache today, though it’s now gone after some paracetamol.

Saw Bridget Jones yesterday with my mum and she stayed over so I had two glasses of Prosecco - I think that must be the source of the headache, but wow what a difference. I’m ashamed to admit that before MJ I would easily down two bottles of Asti (7% alcohol) on a weekend afternoon, by myself at home, and usually accompanied by an entire bag of salt and vinegar crisps. The fact that I had to force myself to finish the second glass is such a big change!

My mum is a prescriptions manager at a HP surgery so she processes letters from different providers and sees a lot come through for Mounjaro - she’s now seen one for SheMed and said she was really so amazed and impressed by how comprehensive the letter was!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 02/03/2025 10:21

Morning! Hope those moving up to 5mg are all okay. @FeverDreamer i think they seem to be moving everyone up from 2.5 - but yes fab losses. Yay!

I woke up 3am with Diahrea which I haven't had in years and years and wondering if it's an MJ thing or an Elvanse thing or a bug or something I ate or who knows!!

I'm resisting the temptation to weigh and get excited about a lower weight.... I'm also not sure if it will keep coming back. Or if I'll get sick. I've honestly not had it in years. Nausea and fatigue have been my usual sore points!

I also looked at my gp record this morning and saw my weight in stone and felt a bit demoralised. I need to lose a lot just to get out of "morbid obese" and down to obese and I so want it to be right now! I've started the adhd meds this weekend (so it could be that?) and just feel I want to get to a place where everything is settled drugs and body wise. Ideally also a new job so I can have regular hours and just get a new baseline for living...

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden my DS has got AuDHD and it plays such a major role in his impulse control and also his fixations. When he sets his mind on something, it has to happen immediately, any waiting involved is a cause of great anxiety and constant rumination. I can see how your ADHD will impact this journey - wishing you strength ❤️

Maybe a chat with your adult ADHD service about coping strategies and some focused CBT could help, please feel free to tell me to mind my own business.

Jab 3 of 5mg done, very minimal weight loss. Filled in the refill questionnaire, hoping for 7.5mg. Good luck everyone this week!

Has anyone noticed a change in their spending patterns since using WLI? I had generally been a bit of a spendthrift, money burning a hole in my pocket but for the first time in many years, that’s not happening. I think the hormonal impact of WLI is positively impacting my impulse control in that way too.

My local food shop has gone down massively, I'm no longer needing to top up my weekly shop. I'm still quite impulsive on the buying front, although saying that I've been tempted to buy the Frio wallet and I'd have definitely bought it before now but I'm holding off for some reason - doing my research as to whether I need the waterproof liner.
Still loving mj, starting 2nd 5mg pen on Wednesday. Suppression still really good and weight loss is incredible! It is so great to get on the scales everyday and see them go down, or stay the same. So far they've not gone up 🤞
No side effects that I'm aware of, although I am a little tired but that could be lack of food. I also keep coming down with cold things, but that could have happened anyway, or it could be because I'm not eating enough? I'm probably doing fast 800 which they say you can do for 12 weeks I think, although I've never completed a week as I have always binge-restricted. No binges since I started mj 🙌

Morning everyone!

Tried really hard to eat over the weekend, found it a bit easier last night, but really underate over the two days from what was an already lowish point. Couldn't face it, made me queasy and nauseous. Kept the water up and prioritised protein, micronutrients and veg.

Decided to jump on the scales to get a feel for what effect it had on my weight - I am down 1.9kg from Friday morning: 70.1kg now.

This is way too fast, really hope it settles down as I get used to the MJ load in my system and I become more able to eat sensibly.

What dosage are you on @SnowieBear ?

JBJ · 03/03/2025 08:50

4th weigh in this morning and about to take my 1st 5mg jab. 1st 6lb loss in total in 4 weeks! I'm very happy with that. Suppression the last couple of weeks hasn't been great, and this weekend was hard work, as I've had a friend staying, so we've eaten out every night and had to work really hard to make good decisions.

it's pretty intense, the suppression, isn't it? I took my first 5mg on Thursday morning and had to force myself to eat this weekend too. My hope is that it settles down a bit. Hope you have at least a bit of an appetite soon!

You don't say! 😅

I have just had my apple for breakfast, a minor triumph given I could not face it Saturday and Sunday.

Keeping my fingers crossed this is a sign I will be a bit more comfortable with eating from today. But gosh, the eggy burps!

RedHillLady · 03/03/2025 10:57

I took my 8th 2.5 mg jab on Saturday. Total loss so far is 7kg.

I stayed on 2.5mg as I was having terrible nausea and because I had a holiday planned and didn't want to risk side effects while away.
Holiday has been good. I have been cooking healthy meals but have eaten more than I would have at home. I've also had gin and wine!
(and paid for it with indigestion)

Checking in from Spain was fine, I brought my travel scales with me. I like to weigh every day, watching the scale go up and down keeps me motivated and helps me know my body. Up and down a bit every day with downward trend!!!

I will start 5mg on Saturday.
I doubt there will be any loss this week but I would like to maintain.

Shemed January Starters - Thread 3
Shmallow · 03/03/2025 15:01

So I've got a new pen arriving today (my third pen) and they've kept me on 5mg which is fine my me. Loss is pretty steady, no side effects, so I'm happy with it.

Like you, @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I prefer to see my weight in kg as in stone and pounds if feels horrible! But you're on this now, you WILL move down those bmi categories. If you'd never started you'd still be where you were.

I'm another one with AuDHD dc. One diagnosed the other going through it soon, but very different presentations! My youngest is just as described above - extremely impatient!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 03/03/2025 18:28

@Shmallow Mine are so very different too. One eats beige food the other is sensory seeking and eats all things but there's rules... One likes quiet one talks constantly.... I sometimes feel it's no wonder I put in weight with my own overwhelm and exhaustion! Yay for new pen! I start mine Friday.

@SnowieBear Thanks for the lovely post. I am impatient but only in the "want to wake up 10stone less" way. It's not the main issue I have really. I've just started titration so will see her in 4 weeks. She's lovely.

Interesting about all the suppression My suppression isn't as strong as it was initially on 5 (when I was nauseaus too!) . I think from reading suppression can't be guaranteed forever it's more of a side effect but the hormones regulate our craving/eating/feeling full. It is very useful though!

I did start to worry about undereating too (even though I wasn't losing 🙄) as chatgpt says not eating enough can slow your metabolism. It feels we can't win!!

I did weigh myself and probably shouldn't as it was 2k down (after a staying the same week) but it's likely water weight from the D that will come back!

@RedHillLady Fab loss at average 1kg a week! Do you think you'll go up next time/have the side effects quietened?

@tinyemmy yay for no side effects!

Its great hearing how everyone is getting on and very exiting that we're progressing onwards with all this. I tried a different dress on today that was definitely too tight (I live in stretchy dresses - they cover a multitude of sins) and it's much looser. I'm nowwhere near the size below but it's great to see "somethings" happening. Even if it's just from "inflammation" going down.
