Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

Wow fantastic loss @RedHillLady but sorry about the side effects but glad it's easing. I had more on the second 5mg pen which made no sense to me! But was (relatively) fine on the 3rd.

Im exhausted today but I think that might be life/busy week and lots of walking rather than the jab. Or it could be the jab. I was sleeping the day after the jab the first few weeks 😳.

15% of weight loss and 3 stone down, but a gain - sort of of 100g this week. Finding it quite hard to stop snacking.

Yesterday was a refill questionnaire day and they have confirmed today that it will be a 7.5mg pen. On the one hand I'm pleased, but I am concerned about side effects, though hoping as it's not a doubling of dose as 2.5-5mg that it will be less traumatic than last time.

We shall see. I am tempted to take a little less than 7.5mg for the first dose but I haven't spent much time investigating the number of clicks for a dose.

So, I’ve not had much in the way of chocolate since starting, as I’ve just not fancied it really and we don’t tend to keep it in the house. I stupidly treated myself to a small Easter egg yesterday, which has been shouting for me since it came into the house! In a moment of weakness tonight, I opened it and are the whole bloody thing 😩 Clearly still can’t be trusted around chocolate! Also appears it doesn’t agree with me at all, as I’ve had heart palpitations, stomach cramps and diarrhoea for the last hour. Let this be a lesson to me - stay away from the chocolate!

Oh no @JBJ
lots of water and it will pass. This may be controversial but I think testing yourself while you have easy resets is a good thing to do.
These challenges will be there after MJ but revisiting the desire to not do it again may actually strengthen your path to weight loss long term to be determined and find strategies? Besides, I bet you eat less than last Easter?
I have had a hot cross bun (chocolate dippy egg one) today, been ok. It was the ‘party snack tea’ last night that gave me tummy ache. However, all within much more moderation than normal. There were choices in there and acceptance of consequences 😬 it’s my weigh in tomorrow. I have some Easter eggs but I think I do need to ‘get it out my system’ and then ensure a swift reset Sunday afternoon! That is the time limit I am putting on the egg eating.

JBJ · 19/04/2025 22:21

Yeah I’d have had about 3 by now normally! Feel really, really grim though, so hopefully will be enough to deter me from being tempted again!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/04/2025 08:40

Happy Easter everyone 😊. Enjoy easter food and eggs those who are doing so. We still need to have times of celebration as this is long term for us isn't it.

Having said that - I've weirdly gone off chocolate (and alcohol!) compeltely-it's so strange how it affects us.

@OneAzureMaker They are so inconsistent! I'm being given a fourth 5 pen and my weight loss has slowed and I've not lost as much as you! I am a bit worried I'll "waste" a month but hopefully I'll plod along. I hope as you say the leap is less stressful for you with the side effects than going up to 5.

Morning all,
wondering what is best to do. I am still away and not back home until later this evening. I normally check in in the morning (weigh my lightest self before a drink but after a toilet visit) and the. Inject in the evening.
I could call and weigh in from here (not my normal scales) but I don’t have my injection box with me which they always scan. Does that matter? Or, do I weigh in later when home (after Easter eggs and days worth of food) which will show a gain?
what would you do?
Find it annoying need the injection box to scan as keep forgetting this.

I'm away and definitely eaten more than usual but still probably maintenance calories at most. I don't drink anyway and I have no desire to eat chocolate (I'd have definitely eaten hot cross buns, a couple of Easter eggs etc by now. Likely in a single sitting as I was/am a binge eater so I'd go to the shops, but all the food and then eat it in one go, then not eat a lot and then do it all again, sometimes the next day, sometimes I could drag it out a week, it was rare I went a week without a binge and often it would be many days in a row) I've not had payment taken for my new pen yet. I'm hoping they do it on Tuesday and I don't need to chase anything - the app says they're waiting on me but I responded to their email.
I hope that I don't regret going down a dose (to 2.5) although it is still cheaper to be SheMed and I would still like to take the medication for the rest of the year to cement this weight loss. I'm also thinking I might need to lose more than half a stone to get to a healthy fat percentage.

You can skip a check in, when I go away in May I intend to take my jab but not weigh as the scales will be different and I'm only away for one weigh in. I did this in January and logged my own weight before I went away and then logged it again when I got back. You have to wait until the next day to log your jab for the previous day.
I'm away for two check ins in July but fly back on the Wednesday (check in day) so will jab in the morning as usual but will check in when I get home in the evening.
I don't use the SheMed weight as my official weight as it's usually a couple of pounds heavier, my renpho scales are what I use to determine whether I've lost weight or not and I will weigh on them the day after.
October we fly Wednesday to Wednesday (it's cheaper) so I'll need to check in before I go (flight is at midday so there should be enough time) and then skip the check in on the way back as I will get back late.

That's interesting. Did you ask for a 7.5? I did in the comments. I've lost half a kilo last week and nothing this week.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/04/2025 15:51

@OneAzureMaker Literally the same, half a kilo then nothing this week.

In my form I wrote at the end I was aware my weight loss had stalled and clicked before I finished my sentence (?!) so emailed straight away afterwards to say re 7.5. I got sent a generic email about their dosing guidelines and was told it was told it would go up the following month.

I'm all kinda of conflicted. I was happy to stay at 5 if I was still losing as know I'm in for the long haul so would have asked not to go up if so! And I don't feel like I'm eating more so maybe it's a weird water/bloaty thing (?) or who knows.

I've emailed again to say they're not following their policy and I'd like to go up.

We then went for a walk on the beach for an hour and I told myself that the worse case scenario is in on 5 for another month but I'm still walking so I'm getting some health benefit.

I think I feel it's a bit of a race against time as I won't lose it all in this year and in the study it looks like most people stop losing 12-18months in (of course many people will reach their goal in that time!)

On the other hand I'm not back to binge eating. Don't want chocolate. No idea why the weights stalled tbh.

That does sound odd re them not upping the dose for you. I've no idea why mine was. But, as you say, compared to where we both were on the 10th January, things are so different and the walking etc. can't be anything but good.

I really need to crack on with some exercise, work has been so, so busy and I'm just exhausted which makes me crave crappy food and exercise is far from appealling. I also know that whilst I eat far less my eating habits aren't great.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/04/2025 17:58

Sorry work is tricky 😔. Being tired affects everything top doesn't it. I find when I stop bizarrely the tiredness comes flooding like my body has been storing it up.

I've had the prescription email through and it says on it that it's 5mg/ optimal weight loss (??!!) but I'm resigned to it now. It's only one more month and so much is improving.

And yes weve both come on so much!! I had a lovely walk on the beach today 😊. I get so in my head about it all and anxious to "get it right" yet so much has improved so it will be okay. Hopefully my body will give me a woosh anyway!

Happy Easter everyone! How are you finding the temptations of chocolate? It’s always been my downfall, but I actually have no interest at all! My husband is thrilled and happily digging into his own egg and mine!

I was late doing my check-in this week due to 8 days away working in the middle of nowhere where there was no phone signal and the only WiFi was in the HQ block! I didn’t fancy it in there, so although I still did my injection on time, my check in was two days late. Although I had a couple of emails, it wasn’t mentioned on the call which I was surprised about.

I finished my third pen this week and am now 3st 12lbs down. Fingers crossed for a good week for everyone!

Thank you @tinyemmy
Decided to check in tonight now home. Not a good eating day (family lunch, Easter eggs and travelling food) and not well hydrated with too much salty food.
i have accepted the gain this week and decided to get weigh in out of the way.
It showed I am 1KG up 😕
But thinking about it, that is normal through a day and I normally weigh am.
The SheMed person read my figure incorrectly which showed as I stayed the same. Decided not to correct her and go with it for now. I will weigh again in a few days for myself to check progress but scratch today inaccurate one.

Doing jab tonight, bit nervous effects as bad eating today 😬

Hmmm sorry @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGardenyou not got the 7.5mg. Seems unclear what actually makes SheMed go 7.5mg transition?

I’m on my 4th pen (just taken 2nd dose jab 14) but it’s 3rd pen of 5mg. Took a month of 1st 5mg pen to build up to full dose so for me, this is only my second month at 5mg.
Wondering what they will give me next 🤷‍♀️
Still have good suppression but Easter eating not been great.
my questionnaire will come this week & not sure what to write now.

yep, I am feeling race of time to get this weight off. I had thought I was doing well but visit g family today, no one said anything. Still wearing same clothes but Ofcourse looser now. I just have so much more to loose! Thought 3 stone would be more noticeably different but I still look very big. Don’t normally allow pictures, normally hide in the back, today I didn’t. I saw myself, yes jeans looser and T shirt too so tucked in (would never do this before), but I looked so big! Just avoid looking normally but photos don’t lie, think I’ll retreat to the shadows again for a while but know this feeling is making me wish you’hurry thus up’, to loose the weight and so 7.5 appealing.

Earthgirl3971 · 21/04/2025 09:36

Well done to everyone on all these fantastic losses.

I'm below BMI 30 now and close to entering my next stone bracket with only 3.8 lbs to lose to get there. I can't believe how well my body is using this drug.

Im on my third pen of 5mg and it's still doing its thing. I think I'd like to do the 16 weeks on 5mg as per the dosing guidelines.

Managed a hill walk yesterday of around 11,000 steps and I wasn't blowing out my ass like I would be.

Things are massively changing now I'm almost 2 stone lighter, but I'm still to notice a massive difference in my clothes in needing a new clothes size.

We have another holiday may half term, hoping to fit much much better in my clothes for that one. It's a beach holiday in the UK and I'm hoping to try body boarding / paddle boating for the first time as I feel in carrying less weight I'll be more up for trying things than I was before.

X

JBJ · 21/04/2025 10:26

Week 12 weigh in today and another 2lb off. Need another 4.5lb to be in the next stone bracket, so hopefully another couple of weeks! My scales on Friday were showing a better loss, but then the Easter Egg happened and I screwed up the week. Although after my body’s reaction to chocolate, I’m in no rush to have any more!

JBJ · 21/04/2025 10:30

NSV though - I wore a pair of size 18 jeans yesterday! Couldn’t sit in them comfortably, but they went on easily and I was fine stood up 🤣 I was in a size 22/24 when I started this though and that was all stretchy waists, so I’m delighted 😀

Apparently 22.5% 🤪

Glad it is working so well for you. How much more do you need to loose?

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 21/04/2025 21:14

Wow @Kaggi9 That's a super huge loss!! Both in pounds and in percentage. Do you feel different? Are you nearly at your goal? Do you have A Plan for when you get there?

@Reginaphalangeeeee Hope your side effects are okay? From all I've read so far its quite common to weigh more later in the day and after eating differently as our body holds more water so fingers crossed it will come off just as easily. You can't have put on 1kg in actual fat overnight!!

What did you put in the comments in the end? And have they told you what they're giving you? In my mind if I was still losing well I'd stay on 5mg as long as I could but if it stops losing reliably for more than few weeks I'd want to go up.

Their plan as they say is 1 month on 2.5, then up to 5 (unless side effects) and then 5 for 3 months and then most go upto 7.5. But presumably could stay at 5 if losing well. I am so surprised that I am then not going up at this stage!

I've attached the more detailed reply they gave someone on the FB group re the dosages.

@Earthgirl3971 Wahooooo below bmi 30 is SO exciting!!! And the hill walk is impressive. I am enjoying walking more and amazed at the extra benefits the drug is moving.

I think their guidelines is wk 5-15 on 5 mg (see attached) so for most people its 1 x 2.5 then 3 x 5.... but they say they adapt to individuals so if you're losing well on 5 I would stay there too!

@JBJ Yay for smaller clothes!! This really works doesn't it :)

I've had a lovely family day -Easter meal with the kids and my mum. Still not fancying chocolate or the cake which is so unlike me - and I'd have had them if I wanted them. Had the dinner but small portions and was relieved mum didn't challenge me. She doesn't really like fat people (oh yes...) so I don't think she'd be unhappy even if I stopped eating... But that aside it was all pleasant!

I'm back to work tomorrow and although this week is calmer now I've cut down on some of my work I just don't want to do it and see people! zzz. Once I'm there it will be okay.

Hope you've all had a fab bank holiday weekend.

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden

Thanks both! I have just over 2 stone to go, and am well aware that it will slow down, I’m just enjoying the ride whilst I can!

Do I feel different? Well, I can see the difference and have gone down two clothes sizes now. I still have a tummy, hips, bum and thighs, but that is probably going to be the next 2 stone worth!

I’m on the clinical trial, so tied in for 12 months. I guess they will move me to a maintenance dose when I hit my goal. I’ve had issues with blood sugar (reactive hypoglycaemia) in the past and the peri-menopause has played havoc with my metabolism and hormones which has caused weight increase - Mounjaro has regulated all of that for me and is possibly why it’s been so successful. I’ll be talking to SheMed about long term maintenance as I think that may be something that’s in my future.
