Shemed January Starters - Thread 3

1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 24/02/2025 23:50

Wow thread 3! I just went to post on the other thread and realised we'd got to the end. I hope everyone finds us - I wasn't able to post a link!

This thread is a support thread aimed at those who started with the Shemed 1 year plan in January (or there abouts).

How is everyone?

I am not nauseous today and seeing light at the end of the tunnel- but so glad I have stuck on 5mg for the next one. I am definitely eating less too - I'm hoping that lasts!
@OneAzureMaker - ah we can be second 5mg pens together! I really want to do some exercise but similarly will have to wait until I have some energy. @tinyemmy Yay hope you are still going okay too - will be a few of us on our second 5 pens!

@Reginaphalangeeeee

Wow - fantastic results! And great the side effects have remained calm. I've had side effects each weekend of the 3 5mg jabs I've taken but they've decreased. This weekend was much more manageable for me. I think the suppression is more constant now too. I will stay on this dose if it carries on like this for a while.

@JBJ Yay for more loss - and good luck with 5mg

@BruhWhy Is the nausea easing?

@Needtomust96 I think some people in the facebook group have - you can use the section at the end of the form to request it and do say why. From reading randomly online it does seem some people need the higher doses to respond although a 1kg a week is what I'm aiming for. You might find that 5mg does it for you in a way 2.5 doesn't.

@Monmonss I did my questionnaire early Friday morning and the pen is supposed to be arriving Tuesday (tomorrow) . I think they issued it Sunday. Hope it settles for you - have you tried taking anything and all that?

@YouWillFindMeUnderCats I was the same - 13lbs and not quite the stone! I am now though - slow and steady does keep adding up. Hope the 5mg goes okay for you.

@Mazd323 How has today been? I think I'm eating less on 5mg but it still wears off towards the end of the week

@Lostatsea10 and @MrsMidgeMaisel and @Follydear I am sorry you are both still struggling. :( It's a hard thing to weigh up isn't it. It does seem Shemed do let people out of the contract if they're struggling or give them the option of Wegovy, and definitely seem to let them stay at 2.5 for longer if needed. Good luck whatever you both decide.

@Humptyandhambel Yay for a steady weight loss and hope 5mg is treating you okay.

Tagging people as I couldn't put a link onto the other page - hope that's okay and please do tag anyone I've missed out (probably quite a few!)

@DearRavenI saw on another post from people who have been on this longer, they uploaded weight loss graph. I did mine on Shotsy. What is helpful is seeing that the plates often just account for times of greater loss. I recommend tracking like this & seeing the imaginary line to help you see your over all trajectory. Keep going, the scales will move again & in the meantime maybe check with circumference measurements as there may be change there?

Reginaphalangeeeee · 16/04/2025 06:51

Mazd323 · 15/04/2025 23:08

I started my 3rd 5mg pen on Monday. I really wish they’d moved me up. I’ve literally been snacking all day! So annoyed with myself but I just wanted to eat. Just hoping I don’t put weight on this month and that they actually move me up next time because this isn’t good!’

You can do this! Choose filling snacks, maybe up the protein to satisfy you and drink more fluids.

I’m on my third 5mg pen too… the first one felt like it wasn’t working and now it feels it’s working too much for me some days. 5mg seems to be strange for some people with changing suppression so it may right its self this month. Hang in there

tinyemmy · 16/04/2025 07:39

15th shot done. Another 2.2lbs lost this week. 2st 6lbs on mj since 8th January. I've lost 21.1% of my bodyweight and I have not moved up from 5mg (in fact I asked in the questionnaire today if I could move down). BMI is now 23.7 and I only have half a stone or so to my goal. I've made it clear to SheMed that I want to stay on mj for the year as I think it has helped with other symptoms (undiagnosed ADHD, joint pain etc) so hopefully they will find a way for me to reduce the dose. Fingers crossed!!! I've had a look on the Facebook groups and I'm not sure anyone else is maintaining yet so I'm not sure whether they will allow anyone to maintain on a dose that isn't a maintenance dose, we shall see!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 16/04/2025 07:53

@tinyemmyincredible. This is the sort of loss people see in a year in the previous trials and you have done it in under 4 months.
what was your BMI when you started?
Do you feel able to eat more to maintain your weight or do you have very strong suppression?
I guess you could also look at your fat loss and muscle % to give you some goals of building muscle and dropping body fat if these things still needed improving over the year?

My BMI was 30.3 when I started and because I'm short it doesn't take much to hit higher or lower levels!
I have very strong suppression and just don't really like food. As someone who binge ate this is miraculous! I find I get hungry but just don't know what to eat and when I start eating I get bored quite quickly. I definitely still need to drop a lot of fat and build more muscle. I'm still well into the red zone on fat percentage, hence wanting to lose more weight, I'm also doing some strength workouts to try and build some muscle. So I still need to lose weight, but I don't need to lose it at 2+lbs a week any more. I love mj so much, I wish it had been available years ago and I hope it becomes more accessible for those who need it. I definitely want to stay on it long term as I do not want to go back to binge eating.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 16/04/2025 09:34

Yep I agree @tinyemmy,
the relief and freedom from compulsive binge eating is just wonderful! Breaking its pattern is giving me hope but just need to ensure I don’t start it again!

kittykarate · 16/04/2025 09:35

Just when you think you've got the symptoms cracked this medication does like surprising you. So my 7th 5mg dose yesterday, last night it was like dose #1 all over again, hot sweats, disturbed sleep, the fizzy skin feeling you get when you take American cough medicine. It's no wonder people think they've been given a placebo at times, why can it all be so calm and easy some weeks and like a tornado the next?

SnowieBear · 16/04/2025 12:27

Check in day for DH. He's done another kilo to 95kg, has lost 13kg so far, doing well 👌

tinyemmy · 16/04/2025 13:18

Got confirmation from SheMed that I can try 2.5mg for 1 - 2 months. I don't know what will happen after that, but it is very positive news. Hopefully I can eat a bit more on 2.5mg and learn to maintain.

Hot on your heels @tinyemmy , keep us posted, really curious to see how they will support maintenance for the rest of the year.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 16/04/2025 21:35

That’s great @tinyemmy. Did they say what after the 1-2 months of 2.5?

tinyemmy · 16/04/2025 21:45

They didn't, I presume it depends on if I carry on losing... I'm hoping to stay on it but I don't think SheMed will support a dose less than 2.5. I shall wait and see what happens!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 16/04/2025 22:17

I do not expect to be at my goal by the end of the year, not that I am sure what my actual goal is yet.

I asked AI software to help me predict my weight loss transferor on MJ based on my current 12 week data I have.
It recommended I aim for a goal of 74kg for a healthy BMI 24.9!
I actually had thought around a goal of 80kg-85kg is what I was when married and I looked good at that weight but my BMI would be 26.7-28.4.
The software suggested at my current loss/exercise/commitment assuming reaching a minimum of 10mg MJ dose I would be there by end Dec 2025 / January 2026. And so, my plan will end at this time and need to source something else to maintain. Besides, looking at my ‘predicted graph’ I just can’t believe loss will continue at this rate, surely just not realistic!?

JBJ · 17/04/2025 17:54

Had confirmation today that I’m doing another month of 5mg, which I’m actually quite happy about as I’ve found the suppression has got stronger and stronger as the weeks have gone on and I’ve had zero side effects. Fingers crossed it continues like this!

Reginaphalangeeeee · 17/04/2025 19:17

That’s great @JBJ is this your 4th pen of 5mg. I was also just thinking suppression got more and more noticeable on 5mg and lasting longer through the week too.

It’s my 3rd. When I first moved up to 5mg, all suppression disappeared and I struggled for the first couple of weeks, but since then it’s got stronger as the weeks have gone on. Happy to stay on it whilst I’m feeling like this.

SnowieBear · 18/04/2025 11:42

Done my check in remotely, not taking my weigh reading with any degree of seriousness - different scale, etc. Still, trend seems to be down, I will work out how much down when back at home next week.

bluesmartie83 · 18/04/2025 15:03

I have had a crazy week at work with a lot of stress but have stuck to my usual eating plan where I would normally be grabbing a doughnut or chocolate bar on my way home and drinking wine or a gin at home. Seemed to have had a whoosh week and lost 2.5lbs so now at 2 stone 5lbs loss. Took my 13th jab and 3rd 5mg pen and very happy with my progress. I’ve started the couch to 5k and have been occasionally doing Pilates from YouTube with a Pilates bar I brought from Aldi in Jan - nothing consistent though so need to work on that. Want to do the best to reduce loose skin and tone up. My thighs are incredibly wobbly but are my biggest bit so will take some shifting! I am really trying to work on long term behaviours so I can live without Mounjaro but we shall see if it is possible. Disappointed the sun has gone away for the 4 day weekend! I also said hello to the next stone bracket this morning which has seemed to take forever but when I went back through my history has actually only taken 7 weeks which is about right. Would love to be down another stone by the end of July ready for my holidays 🤞

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 18/04/2025 22:27

Hello!

My check in day and just going to try and catch up with people's posts here too!

I checked in this morning - stay the same as last week which is frustrating. We were in London yesterday though and I walked 13k steps which would have been unheard of pre MJ. Hopefully I'm just out of balance rather than fully slowing down. I've done my questionnaire and curious if it is 7.5 (I think I read somewhere they expect most people to do 3 x 5 then move onto 7.5) or stay on 5. I'm not even sure which way I want it to go! If I'd lost 2-3lb this week I'd have asked to stay on 5 but as it's STS I'll take the surprise!

@bluesmartie83 Yay congratulations on the next stone bracket :)
@SnowieBear - hope you're having a fab time away !
@JBJ Yay for it working and zero side effects - winning combination :)
@Reginaphalangeeeee Oooh exciting graph and I hope you get there. I don't think I'll be there by the end of the year but I hope to be withing the first 6 months next year. Although reading some of the threads of those with lots to lose I am aware it can properly stall for a month or so. I think even the concept of this being possible is still exciting.
@tinyemmy Still so very excited for you! 21% of your body weight is amazing. I wonder if you could change to Oushk if SheMed will stop prescribing as they seem very flexible about maintenance. Or maybe SheMed will keep prescribing if its not too low. Or not. Hope the next couple of months are okay and that SheMed give you some answers. As a complete aside I went though "Right to Choose" for ADHD and it took 6months start to finish if that's an option you're interested in. I am kind of hoping if I have to stop MJ longer term the ADHD meds might take the edge of things. I don't know.
@kittykarate - are you feeling any better? i sometimes feel I'm playing symptom roulette each week...
@DearRaven Grrr for the plateau. I think I've reached a mini one and it's frustrating - well done for the good choices and its positive the suppression is still there - hoping you get a surprise woosh soon.

Thanks for checking in @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I'm feeling a load better sympton wise, it was just 2 days of weirdness. Even the insomnia has eased.

Weird day for me yesterday- MrKitty had an incident while out cycling (he can't remember what happened- apparently went over his handlebars and knocked himself out) so spent from 12 to 8pm sat with him in hospital. They're keeping him in for observation so he's mostly OK. I was like a shrivelled prune after 8 hours in hospital and only 1 drink and no food, so I ended up inhaling a pint of water and 2/3 of a pack of chicken goujons. I'll probably pay for that later.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 19/04/2025 08:11

Oh gosh @kittykarate your poor husband? Is he okay this morning? I'm glad your symptoms ease. And what is it with hospitals and drinks??

Humptyandhambel · 19/04/2025 08:28

Wow what a worry @kittykarate ! I hope he’s feeling a little better today.
Checked in this morning with a 2lb gain. Been off work a week for half term had days out = not enough water intake due to not wanting to be running the loo constantly! Appetite suppression has been good though have had a wine at least 4 nights which is not usual for me so will gracefully accept the gain.
First 7.5mg jab done and back to water not wine!

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden sorry to hear about the stay the same! Maybe a rise to 7.5 will do the job. I am definitely keen to stay one way or another and have been eyeing up Oushk longer term, although would really like to stay on SheMed prices for longer!
I still have not sorted my right to choose, I need to do that! Based on my daughter she doesn't eat much lunch (although often makes up for it in the evening) so that would help maintenance I think if I continue to skip breakfast ,just need a light lunch and then what I want in the evening!
We have come away for Easter and yesterday I had a flapjack for breakfast ,(half) a soup and a piece of bread and butter for lunch and then fish for dinner. I managed some pudding although had acid indigestion at night. I think I ate at least maintenance calories if not more! I weighed before I came away and will weigh when I get back, it will be interesting what my weight does when I'm in "holiday mode"! I still have some weight to lose so I hope I haven't pulled the trigger too quickly on reducing the dose.
I've read alsorts of maintenance options from microdosing to just jabbing once per month. I really hope SheMed will be as supportive as Oushk, but I think it's all so new and with very few guidelines so it will be hard for them. It will be much easier in say a year's time although I'm so pleased I didn't spend another year putting more weight on!!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 19/04/2025 09:14

Yes you can pave the way for all of us with research about the options ❤️.

Hope you have a fab time away.

Just taken dose number 15 ....2 x 2.5mg pens and now on my second 5mg. I had a lot of nausea, bloating and vomiting on 2.5mg and it was just settling when I moved to 5mg and then started again with the increased dose.
Things are getting a bit easier on 5mg now and I'm definitely staying on this dose!

I've lost 11.5 kg in 14 weeks. Slow and steady for me!!
