Wow who would have thought it

We are doing so well. 7mths

Hugs all the auggies and all of us have lost a fair amount of weight

Some still have weight to lose myself included

Equally a few are nearing their healthy bmi or have reached it and thinking about maintaining

And all I can say is an elephants penis 😂😂😂

I think when you've been on a restricted diet and then eat a bit more it inevitably shows up on the scales, but it can just be that you've physically got more weight of food/water in you - especially with M slowing digestion. It doesn't automatically mean that will translate into actual weight gain, but I think you only get a short grace period before that happens in my experience! I think if you cut down again it will just vanish, but I share your despondency at what it means longer term, as a fellow short arse cursed with a low potential calorie limit to manage maintenance.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/02/2025 14:16

So does that mean short arses (sorry) have to live off 1000 a day forever or gain

I thought the tdee thing meant to sts /not lose meant you could have 500 more so 1500 normally

My maintenance calories are 1350 😱 tried and tested this two years ago when I couldn't understand why I wasn't losing any weight. I stuck to 1350 for 2 weeks...no loss and no gain 😢

Azuresky68 · 23/02/2025 16:10

@weaselyeyes I like your explanation. I think I need to accept that to stay at my goal weight I will have to consider MJ as a lifelong solution. That's why I signed up with Ouschk, knowing that I can try a month without it, then having the option to go back on it. I was pretty near my goal of 9 stone in May 2020 at 9 stone 4 pounds but slowly went up until I was 11 stone in August 2024. It didn't take much to gain half a stone but so much harder to lose it. Is hard to swallow 😅 but I am now accepting that the cost of the monthly jab is a regular expense. Fortunately I don't have expensive taste in other areas so happy not to spend on expensive clothes, jewellery, night out etc. The price of staying slim is well worth it 😀

weaselyeyes · 23/02/2025 16:16

I think the TDEE is a basic measure based on height/weight/activity level, so short arses do have to eat less. They're broadly true, but like BMI they're hard to calibrate for individual bodies and histories. The figures I get on most tracking apps are simply too high for me. So my current maintenance calories are supposedly 1,800 and my losing calories 1,248. In practice, I have to eat 800-1000 to lose weight, and maintenance for me has been 1100 - 1200. I think this is because my yoyoing over the years has had a massive impact on my body. It's really hard to stick to! I think non-overweight people who advocate the move more/eat less kind of advice don't realise that it's not just about turning down that extra doughnut they imagine you're always indulging in, it's actually eating about half the amount of other people every single day for ever. That said, most people are taller than me and have had less extreme weight fluctuations so are better off.

weaselyeyes · 23/02/2025 16:20

I feel similarly @Azuresky68. I think my plan has morphed into thinking I'll broadly stay on it for at least a year after I reach goal weight (assuming I do and assuming providers let me!), possibly skipping the odd week or month, and then see how I am. But after a lifetime of weight struggles, it's not been a question of 'learning healthy habits' for me, I already knew what they were. I feel I'm battling something else!

i don’t struggle but wouldn’t went this forever

mine is 1700 when I want to sts

let’s see if that happens when I finally get to a healthy bmi

@PoemsForTea I've also had some food noise this last week!

@Azuresky68 9lbs was pre MJ, so the whole 5 stone hasn't been since August. Try not to worry about the gain, it'll be gone again in a day or so I'm sure.

Well done @Princessandthepie

poppym12 · 23/02/2025 19:04

I'm just back from a weekend away. A 3 course meal last night was a waste of time for me. Ate about half the soup, picked at the main course and had a token couple of bites of dessert. Today was a full on afternoon tea. I've bought a lot of it home with me but it'll probably go in the bin as I'm just not hungry.

I just don't feel good. My cough is back along with a hoarse voice and runny nose. My appetite is zero. I've been on 10mg for 5 or 6 weeks now and it seemed to be suiting me until I got this virus. I'm also retaining a lot of water at the moment and don't understand why.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/02/2025 19:56

Oh @poppym12 sorry feel poorly

and guess none of us can’t eat a 3 course meal now

I need to order a pen. It’s likely to be my last so debating either sticking at 10 for one last month or going for it with 12.5 and just seeing what happens. I won’t be tapering down as need to get MJ out of my system before TTC. Will be sticking on the thread though as I’m still intending on losing weight! Next nutracheck goal is 12st4; it thinks I’ll hit that by 10/05/25 and it’s been pretty accurate so far!

CheekyOliveMentor · 23/02/2025 22:14

I would like to try the jabs especially mounjaro but since l take hrt l was sceptical. Simply because the jabs make one feel full for longer. As for the hrt had to be taken on empty stomach. So its tricky.Does anyone here tried jabs with hrt??

Azuresky68 · 23/02/2025 23:18

@Blondeshavemorefun @owlyboo. @weaselyeyes thanks so much for replying with understanding and kindness. It's such a relief to be understood. I have always felt people would judge me as being a big eater or greedy. When I was very young..probably around 8 years old, a teacher called me greedy in front of the class and I still remember to this day the shame I felt. My mum was always 'on a diet' but never slim. We were restricted at home on what we could eat. I tried to hide my obsession with weight from my DD's but unfortunately they both have issues with weight too. I have always felt being short has made life harder and actually feel guilty that both DD's are short like me 😢. I can't tell you how much this group has helped, not only with the MJ journey but the issues and impact of being overweight most of my life. Thanks again to everyone and have a good week.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/02/2025 00:36

Awww @Azuresky68 - leans into phone and gives a big cuddle

sure you weren’t greedy at all

wouid your dd’s use mj? They have seen the results you have had ?

we have a lovely group. Glad we all started in aug

@Azuresky68 my mother also had an unhealthy obsession with my weight, I was taken to slimming world, hypnotherapy, weight watchers, constant stream of you'dlook so much prettier if you lost some weight, It's bloody ridiculous! And now I can't look at myself in photos, just myself go and be happy for fear of being seen in the wrong angle, photographed with my double chin! I'm trying so hard to not be the same with my kids but I do worry about it.

My mother has a lot to answer for when it comes to my weight issues and body confidence.

Even now I've lost 48lbs, I can't see it and still think I'm the same as before. Doesn't help that size 18 jeans are mahoosive so look ridiculous on but size 16 is oh so uncomfortable that I just feel like a fat frump again!!! Insanity!!

WorriedRelative · 24/02/2025 10:24

Hi everyone, sorry I have been quiet recently. Just a quick check in today.

Not much of a loss this week, but it has been time of the month. Still a new low today, but only by a smidgen.

I am really not getting enough water in, finding it difficult in cold weather. I think if I can get back to 4 pints a day of water on top of my coffee it might speed things up.

A couple on NSVs though, I did my wsist to height ratio again and it is down to 0.55, which is great, I am really keen to get down to 0.5 or below and I am over half way there.

I was sorting through some of Mum's things yesterday and Dad pulled out a lovely long wool coat. Thought it looked small, tried it on and while it didn't fasten it went on and wasn't far off meeting. So it came home with me, reckon it will be OK worn open in a few weeks.

weaselyeyes · 24/02/2025 11:35

@CheekyOliveMentor I think there are plenty of people who combine HRT with mounjaro, but you might be better off asking on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight-loss-injections/5264084-continuing-mounjaro-part-24?reply=142356882 as it covers all matters mounjaro.

@Azuresky68 and @Princessandthepie I identify with these issues! My mother was tiny and always putting me on diets (then rewarding me with cake when I lost weight), plus making me feel terrible about myself. It's been so destructive. But as I've got older I've thought more about where these behaviours came from for her, and realised she was also subject to these kinds of pressures both socially as a woman and personally in her family. As a parent I now have a lot more compassion with how hard it is trying to do the right thing! I've not managed to be perfect with my daughter, but she's in much better shape mentally and physically than I was. She hovers around the upper borderline of a healthy BMI, I'd guess, which sounds fine to me. She is also about six inches taller, which is an absolute blessing!

@WorriedRelative lovely to hear from you, and it will be so nice to wear your mum's coat. I keep one of my mum's in my wardrobe - a very glamorous, 70s one, which I would never wear but reminds me of her so much. It's not occurred to me to try it on, I might give it a go. It won't fit, but might be close. You prompted me to check my waist to height ratio and I'm on 0.52, so great to feel I'm progressing. If there was a slumped spare type to height ratio, I'd be doomed!

I am on hrt & get on just fine but use evorel patches so not sure it's comparable?

Princessandthepie · 24/02/2025 12:37

@weaselyeyes yes my mum and her sisters were very competitive over weight. My aunts were forever making digs about my weight and my cousins were all skinny. Joyous!

My aunts continued with the nasty comments well in to my 30s til I one day said at least I can lose weight, what will you do about your ugly faces? Rude but i so wish I'd said that sooner as it pissed them right off and they shut up after that! 🙄

Anyhow, airfryer omelette!! Game changer!!
2 eggs mixed with seasoning and filling of choice, liner in the airfryer, 10 minutes on 180 degrees = 1 lovely omelette and no frying pan to hand wash!! 😋
Highly recommended!

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/02/2025 12:44

@Princessandthepie that’s how I feel as well. I may have list an elephants penis 😂 but I look in the mirror and don’t really see the diff.

Still have huge thighs and bum and tum

same with jeans. 18 baggy. Falling down literally but I can’t get into sodding 16. The pair I literally squeezed my legs into and pulled up thighs and couldn’t do up
trued a few pairs now and same

@WorriedRelative it’s still a loss so well done

I do drink water but often add in squash as well

I’ve heard about the waist to heigh but what is it

and great NSV with coat

AuntieDote · 24/02/2025 13:28

Hi everyone, I'm back home after a weekend away in windy, rainy Blackpool (well we actually had a lovely day Sat but Friday and especially yesterday were wet and wild!) I ate and drank more or less what I wanted -as I'm back on the low dose and not getting much suppression anyway, and had jabbed the previous Sun so getting to the end of the week - then that was plenty! But still nothing close to what it would have been pre MJ. No doubt there would be a slight gain if I weighed today, so I haven't and will hang on till the weekend. Didn't jab last night as I'm trying to leave it a bit over a week each time to reduce risks of side effects.

Sorry you're still not feeling well @poppym12

@Azuresky68 I know this feeling. They weighed us in front of the whole class in primary school and shared the results, this was part of a topic of 'healthy eating'!! We also had to fill in what we ate the night before as homework, which would also be shared and commented on by the teacher - as if it was up to me what my parents served for dinner. Same teacher described me and the other girl who was overweight in my class as 'lazy lumps' too. It's bloody shocking looking back - she was actually still teaching until relatively recently, well once I had started teaching anyway (and I didn't go straight into it after uni either) - I came across her at a CPD event once and was so tempted to tell her what an utterly awful effect she'd had on me and how appalling I found it that she'd done that. Then I just thought what's the point? Interestingly, no comments of this sort were directed towards the boys even though there were some who were equally chunky as I was back then.

I'm terrified I'm giving my daughter a complex too. I've tried so so hard to get it right with her but I think the very fact of my stress about it has come across to her and she's picked up on it despite my best efforts - she's forever asking for food/ snacks/ going feral for sugar any chance she gets and I have to admit I haven't always handled that the best. I really tried the approach from weaning onwards of letting her have what she wanted, only having healthier stuff in the house anyway, and not limiting but trusting her to know her own hunger cues and self-regulate as everything I read said this was the right approach. It's fairly clear this doesn't really work with her though - she's never not hungry and will eat huge portions and then demand more 10 minutes later because she's apparently hungry again. I struggle knowing the right way to approach this honestly.

@CheekyOliveMentor - as far as I understand it the only aspect of HRT that is recommended to be on an empty stomach is the progesterone tablets as they can cause reflux and apparently increased drowsiness if you take them with food - something to do with it increasing absorption. I take these and also the oestrogen spray with no issues whilst on mj - I don't usually eat after 6pm anyway and take the tablets at bedtime so no real issue if it makes me drowsy (it doesn't particularly!)

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/02/2025 14:00

@AuntieDote how old is dd - kids do burn off energy /food so unless you think she is getting chunky then I wouldn’t worry /limit at the moment but keep an eye and offer fruit after a meal or tel her to wait 20m so it digests /hits brain to see if full

surely if tablets for hrt need to be taken on an empty y stomach then just take them as wake up so stomach is empty

Hi everyone, have been reading and trying to keep up to date . Some great tips and reminders (I’ve not been drinking over a litre a day because it’s too cold also like pp, and probably affecting weight loss). Actually as a shortie, surely I can have less water ?! There must be some advantages to being short surely😭. Have only lost a pound again last week so adjusting to that🤪 and yes, grateful I continue to lose but missing what had been a regular 2lbs a week. Still bmi 28.1 so I’ll also be around for a while yet!
Thanks for the mention of waist height ratio, just checked and mine is 0.58. I’m getting into smaller sizes (sorry @Blondeshavemorefun 🙈) but my waist is still 35 inches and hasn’t budged for ages.
Here’s to a healthier week for those feeling under the weather 💐

Azuresky68 · 24/02/2025 15:19

Thanks again for kind words and for those who have shared their own experiences..that teacher sounds a monster by the way. I haven't told my daughters about being on MJ. Just said I was trying to eat healthier because my doctor had said my weight was making me more at risk of a heart attack...that is true by the way and the funny thing is it was my doctor who told me about MJ in August and I had never heard of it! Anyway thank goodness for MJ!
