Wow I did not know that @VelociraptorsVelociRapping (about the health check I mean).

RobinEllacotStrike · 31/01/2025 11:37

I am truthfully telling them that I am taking better care of myself than I have for years, partly enabled by the fact that I have one less (man)child to look after

Magnificent @VelociraptorsVelociRapping ! And I'm super in awe of you doing all you are doing for yourself off the back of this massive change in your life. I went a man-child down 12 years ago - the future is bright for you in so many ways x

InfoSecInTheCity · 31/01/2025 12:13

OMG OMG, just tried on a size 12 dress and it only bloody fit, bit snug but absolutely wearable.

Can't believe I was wearing size 22 in August and now I'm trying on size 12s.

I never want to see a size 22 top ever again

12 is my dream maybe this aug xxxxx

SilenceInside · 31/01/2025 13:04

Congratulations to everyone on the scale and non-scale victories. I sorted out a load of clothes yesterday and got rid of a load of size 22 tops and trousers. It was very cathartic!

Here's my Friday weigh in update:

Current stats at the end of week 30:

SW: 139kg (21st 12 lbs)
CW: 95.5kg (15st 0 lbs), was 96.5kg (15st 2lbs) last week
GW: 90kg (14st 2 lbs) fourth interim goal.
Total of 96 pounds down, or 43.5kg.

Another week where I have lost 1kg/2 pounds or so. I seem to be settling down to a steady loss rather than the highs and lows I had at the start. I've been working down through the 15 stone bracket for 8 weeks now, which is the longest it's taken me to move down through a stone so far. Hopefully next week I will be into the 14stone bracket, which would be an amazing result. I have not been in the 14st bracket for over a decade I think. It also seems a world away from my starting point of 22 stone. I am so inordinately glad that I started with Mounjaro, it is remarkable, it really is.

Darlinghag · 31/01/2025 13:16

Very interesting @CatsorDogsrule !

congrats @InfoSecInTheCity what a euphoric feeling!!

@SilenceInside excellent progress! I’m also finding the 15st bracket slow going!!

@GiveMeStrengthAndVodka if you are over 49 you are entitled to an NHS health check every five years, which includes blood work. If you haven’t already had a check in the last five years you could use this as a baseline and then either ask your GP abont
follow-ups or look into your private options.

Just spotted my typo in this and it’s too late to edit - should say 40 (forty) not 49 (forty-nine)!

This is just bloody awesome!!!
I am varying 20-24 currently.
If I can break into my size 18 stuff from a few years ago this would be great.
However own nothing size 14-16 so this is my dream!!!
Can not even imagine how good size 12 must feel!
Well done!

Just amazing!!! 30 weeks to erase a decade of weight!
At a start weight of 136kg I have so far to go and this really inspires me.

1st goal is 121kg (weight I was 2 years ago) and trying to keep eyes on that to begin as only week 2. Looking forward to my 3rd injection this week and sure I will have no regrets looking back!

You are well on the way @Reginaphalangeeeee
I started out pushing the boundaries of sz 22 & I'm now wearing sz 16/18/20.
Size 18 jeans are slowly getting looser - I'll need to buy some Sz 16's soon enough.

InfoSecInTheCity · 31/01/2025 15:41

I last wore women's size 12 clothes when I was in last year of primary school.

I still don't look in the mirror and see someone who is thinner than I was last year. I'm starting to think I might see it in my face a bit, but not really. I know that's my brain rather than reality because if I look at photos it's clear that my body looks different and if I put on a size 22 dress it's very baggy, but I still see and feel like the same fat person.

It's weird to be honest, so I try not to think about it.

RobinEllacotStrike · 31/01/2025 15:53

yes I find that too @InfoSecInTheCity

I am wearing lots of layers (winter, MJ chills, working from home) so I can easily wear the bigger sizes still.
And I feel like my body is the same alot of the time. And then I catch myself in the mirror and think oh I do look slimmer. In the moring if I have a stretch and rub my legs I can really feel it - I can't see it necessaily when I look at my legs, but if I give my thighs a rub I can really feel how much slimmer they are.

And I do have jeans/trousers I can absolutely not wear anymore as my stomach/hips/thighs have dramatically changed. There are many abandoned bras - way too big. Maybe my summer dresses will be noticably smaller but I haven't worn them for a while now.

The brain really is a funny thing.

GiveMeStrengthAndVodka · 31/01/2025 17:18

What do you all eat on a typical day? I have read its really important to prioritise protein. I just struggle to hit the target! I also don't eat red meat so it limits my choices some what.

I am going to spend some time this weekend meal prepping to give me a really good start as if I have food ready to go I don't tend to eat crap.

InfoSecInTheCity · 31/01/2025 17:47

@GiveMeStrengthAndVodka really unhelpfully I eat a lot of red meat 😂

Typical day would be

  • skip breakfast, never liked it. I have a skinny latte instead
  • lunch is casserole/chilli/bolognaise. I make up a big batch in the slow cooker which does me for 4 meals. 500g meat (chicken/pork/beef), tin of tomatoes, lots of carrots, mushrooms, sliced peppers and then whatever seasoning I want. Comes to around 250 calories a portion and 33g protein.
  • dinner is meat and 2 veg. I use seasonings rather than sauces to prevent calorie creep and try to make it as flavourful as possible so roasted garlic broccoli, sugarsnap peas cooked through with chopped chilli and so on.

Snacks - beef jerky, full fat Greek yoghurt, Longley farms full fat cottage cheese or a teaspoon of almond butter when I fancy something gooey and treat like.

dimples76 · 31/01/2025 18:06

Hope that it's okay to join you. I just did my first injection on Wednesday. I had hoped tp start at the start of the year but I have been ill. I weighed myself today at the gym and it was the highest weight I have ever seen on the scales (although unfortunately I have been bigger than this). I am so impressed by reading your stories and hoping by this time next year I too will be a much healthier weight.

dimples76 · 31/01/2025 18:07

I weighed 129kg - don't really have a weight target. I mostly just want to be fitter to keep up with my kids

I can relate to what you describe, @InfoSecInTheCity. I think I experienced the reverse for many years as I remained in denial about how big I was getting until I started to experience physical impediments in my daily life. It's certainly taking a while for my brain to catch up this time around.

Someone I love very much saw me in full-length on FaceTime the other day (they usually only see my head and shoulders) and sad they did a double-take as my body was slim that they thought it looked like a deepfake... I am choosing to take it as a compliment! The last time I saw this person IRL I was nearly seven stone heavier than I am now.

InfoSecInTheCity · 31/01/2025 18:14

Hi @dimples76 !

Just because it's an issue that comes up frequently and is both ridiculously important and very easy to forget, I'm gonna get in early and tell you to drink lots of water. Find a way to make it a good solid part of your every day routine if it isn't already.

Most of us have had weeks where we don't lose much, and when we sit back and think we realise we had elect the habit slip. A couple of days of 2lts a day and the scales start moving again.

Your body uses it to break down fat (lipolysis), it helps you to control snacking and if you start doing any exercise you may see a bit of water retention due to muscle healing, so drinking more water helps to prevent that.

Best of luck, and feel free to offload any questions, worries, weird symptoms or whatever here and we'll try to help, or commiserate, whatever seems most appropriate.

Thank you so much, @RobinEllacotStrike. This means a great deal.

I finally have a scale victory this week - 2lb off and in a new bracket after being stuck in an apparent stall since January 1 (although as I said upthread I have definitely continued to lose fat this month if not overall mass).

@Reginaphalangeeeee I am very happy if my stats are a help to anyone just starting. The thing about Mounjaro that really works is the ability to remain consistent over the longer periods of time needed to lose a large amount of weight. I was so daunted at the thought of trying to lose over 11 stone as it just sounds such a huge task. I normally feel miserable on a traditional low calorie diet, as in the past it felt like I was just punishing myself endlessly, so the idea of doing that for 9 months plus was a depressing thought. But I've not felt like that at all over the last 6 months, and have no worries about continuing on for a few more months until I reach my goal.

dimples76 · 31/01/2025 20:53

Thank you @InfoSecInTheCity . I am always trying to drink more water, especially when low carbing but it's easy to forget.

Yes @VelociraptorsVelociRapping
This is me.
Complete denial of how big I am, then I catch myself in a mirror or picture and I am horrified!
Last time I went on a plane I was mortified how tight the seat is, had complete panic that the belt wouldn't do up and I would be in the category of needing an extendor or second seat.
It just about did up but in no way had I realised I was 'there'.

Stepping on the scales 13th Jan this year was a complete shock 136kg.. how did that happen, last time I weighed (I avoid it) but was still under illusion I was 121 as I was last time I looked. I hadn't register 15kg of weight gain.

This flipping weight creeps up and some how I don't realise it till it hits me. I think loss will be the same, it just won't register as I don't accept how big I am (in the future 'was').

It's one of the reasons I don't want to tell people I am using MJ (stigma I let myself get this big) but also will not want to admit how much weight I loose because it would be acknowledging how many stone I am over.
Does that make sense?
I will ofcourse celebrate it here but don't think I will ever was to shout it from the roof tops.

doodlydooo · 31/01/2025 23:10

I just had a little feel of my elbows and was pleasantly surprised!! How wonderful 😁

@InfoSecInTheCity your progress is just so lovely to read! Congrats and well done, you're very inspiring!

As are you @VelociraptorsVelociRapping I wasn't aware of your journey to this point and I feel genuine awe at your strength and determination.

Becoming a mum recently has really knocked me sideways and I am floored by how much women go through and manage to do so much on top of it. There are so many inspiring women on this thread, I am really enjoying reading everyone's lovely progress stories x

Me too! I have some kind of reverse body dysmorphia - in my head I've always been about a size 14 - 16, which I last was when I was about 17 (briefly!). I think it's because that was one of the happiest times in my life in general, so I'm stuck there mentally..!

Meanwhile, my body had other ideas and it's so horrible when I catch sight of myself and see that I don't actually look how I think I look 😔

I had to use seatbelt extenders for the first time 2 years ago and last year - am going away in mid-March and am hoping I might not need one... 🤞🤞🤞
