I was just going to type that! Old school remedy = coffee and a cigarette in the morning! Not that we are advocating this, obvs., but I have seriously considered it in the past when I had post-op morphine constipation!

gimmemounjaro · 17/02/2025 09:51

I was going to suggest a cigarette, worked a treat in the good old days when I smoked!

RobinEllacotStrike · 17/02/2025 12:07

If you are taking thisgs like psyllum husks, ground flaxseeds, flaxseeds etc (Pumpkin seeds also good) you need to up your liquids even more as these substances grab a lot of water.

Also if you eat chickpeas you need ALOT of water - they are very thirsty.

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 17/02/2025 12:54

@Questions1234 I’m also prone to constipation and take lactulose if water, fibre, exercise etc don’t get stuff moving. It’s quite a gentle one and you can get it over the counter at Boots etc.

Darlinghag · 17/02/2025 13:29

Ya gal is back in routine today. Anyone else always feel super productive day after jab? I’ve spent my lunch break whipping round doing chores i’ve been putting off and getting annoyed that i need to get back to my desk!!

i wish the same could be said for my actual job though haha!

For anyone like me, who maybe isn’t feeding a family and hates to cook, Tesco are doing these fab ovenbake pre-prepped trays for two of meat based items. Perfect for not having to calorie count sauces and extra bits and the portions are smaller if you’re on higher suppression days. I’ve got Chicken Katsu tonight, and have had various mexican and asian inspired ones, and classics like hunters chicken etc.

I’m still all about convenience. Can’t wait for the fancier and more varied salad bowls to come back to shops when the weather improves!!

Also, something new I’ve noticed; I can get out of bed without heaving myself up on my arms - it never used to be dignified! Now its just sit straight up. Same goes for getting out of the car - my seats are bucket-y, had to do a weird shuffle out but now its easy!

QueenOfHiraeth · 17/02/2025 14:06

@Questions1234 I have never before suffered with constipation but had a while of pooping rabbit pellets so tried all the usual increase fruit and veg, increase water, etc. I already have bran and chia seeds most days so tried taking inulin and lactulose but had no change in pooping alongside the most horrendous wind.
I bought some Dulco-Ease capsules. They are not a laxative but are a stool softener and seemed to do the trick for me. I now keep a pack in and, at the first sign of bungedupness start one a day and step up to two if not better in a couple of days. It has worked every time

MooBaggage · 17/02/2025 14:14

Today's my injection day, but I've rashly booked a gin evening catch up with an elderly (but can drink me under the table!) Aunty... Am only going to have 1 x gin because I've more or less stopped drinking, but don't want to tell her about the MJ, so will have one - but am debating whether to inject before or after the gin....?!

I'm bloody fed up of drinking water.....! Didn't like it before MJ and still don't! I can usually do a litre a day now, but struggle to get up to 2. I don't really want to use squash as I'm so pleased with cutting out all sugary things - haven't had fizzy drinks or squash since starting in January. I think the water drinking is the worst change I've had to make (I know - 1st world problem 🙄)

I hear you as far as hating water goes!!
I've never liked it either but I,like you are forcing it down and I can only manage about 1.5 LTRs a day,if that!
However,I bought some sugar free flavoured water and I really like it. I'm going to buy 7 1.5 LTRs bottles a week now so I can have one a day!

RobinEllacotStrike · 17/02/2025 15:16

Malasana (deep squat) is a good yoga pose for constipation if you can manage it - hang out in a squat for a while & it does help.

How to do Malasana

Stand with feet hip-width apart and toes turned out slightly
Inhale, pressing palms together in front of chest
Exhale while squatting down, bending knees and lowering hips toward the mat
Keep heels on the floor or place a rolled towel under them
Shift hips back so tailbone reaches toward the mat
Roll shoulders back and down to expand chest
Hold for 20–30 seconds or a few breaths
To release, push down into feet to return to standing
Benefits
Malasana can: Open hips, Reduce muscle tension, Improve bowel movements, and Enhance digestive responsiveness.

Other tips

Take slow and deep breaths while holding the pose
Feel the expansion of your chest and the movement of your breath
Draw your navel towards your spine to engage your core muscles

Quick update as I’ve been quiet for a month (life!). I’m a mid-December starter and just had my second 7.5mg dose on Friday (did 4w on 2.5, 4w on 5 and now on 7.5), so about 9.5weeks in. I’ve started at 96.6kg (bmi 32.2) and now I’m 85kg (bmi 28.4). Total loss, so far is 11.6kg or 25.6lbs - a bit slower than I hoped but still significant.

@Darlinghag The trays are really handy........I used to like the Hunters chicken one with broccoli and hasselback potatoes.............but I would always add tons of extra cheese 😳🙈

While on the subject of Tesco, I love the new (I think they are new, I've never noticed them before) Unbeleafable salad leaves that last 6 days. It has always been an excuse of mine for eating salad it goes off to quickly and ends up in the bin so not worth buying, these last and taste fresher for much longer than the usual Tesco salads. I am picking up 3 bags at a time now, dh likes them too.

Can you try some of the 0% gins when out? Gordons, Gordons pink, Tanqueray, Tanqueray Seville (disclaimer - I know the brands professionally, but don't drink gin so can't personally recommend!) Could give you some flavour while avoiding the risk of alcohol causing issues.

Also for the water have you tried room temperature. I used to always prefer iced water, but now find room temperature (leave a glass sitting for an hour or so) much easier to drink more.

gimmemounjaro · 17/02/2025 18:08

Yes I always add a bit from the kettle - can't be doing with freezing cold water in this weather 🥶

I cannot wait for it to warm up a bit, I hope we have an amazing summer this year.

Arglefraster · 17/02/2025 18:31

Humans are meant to defecate in a deep squat- our western toilets cause lots of problems but you can get closer to a squat position by raising your feet on something. (There's also something called a squatty-potty https://www.stressnomore.co.uk/products/squatty-potty-adjustable-set-2-0-12061?currency=GBP&sku=18064175864193598169661170&utmmedium=cpc&utmmsource=google&utmcampaign=Google%20Shopping&gaddsource=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD4HvludpkZIiKJIdUbDxBuJ3QQ4C&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI9OL5oabLiwMVvJJQBh1hgRkgEAQYASABEgKQBvD_BwE)

I lean toward the opposite problem!

For the struggling water drinkers - I drink gallons of water but it's all sparkling water, flat water has given me heartburn ever since having children - no idea what that's about! So I would suggest trying sparkling water, & I've found a canned sparkling water with nothing weird in it (I hate sweetners) called Dash which I have as a treat. The raspberry is delicious & zero calorie.

NSV the winter coat I struggled to zip in November now fits over a fleece (luckily as it was snowing this morning) and I have a whole handspan between yummy & driving wheel 🎉

Arglefraster · 17/02/2025 18:32

Obviously that was supposed to say tummy not yummy 🤣

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 17/02/2025 18:47

Oh yes can recommend a squatty potty- got one after my first c section (worst poop of my life) but we all still use it 7 years later.

MooBaggage · 17/02/2025 18:59

I also have a squatty potty - things of wonder! 😁

I'll try not-cold water tomorrow - anything has to be worth a try as I'm still getting headaches at night - the only constant negative side effect since starting MJ I've got.

QueenOfHiraeth · 17/02/2025 20:01

@MooBaggage You could try flavouring your own water although it is nicer in warm weather. I have a nice water thingy that I put fruit or things in, leave for a while before drinking and it is really nice.
My favourites are: sliced orange, lemon, lime, etc
raspberries and blackberries, lightly crushed
lemon and thinly sliced ginger
cucumber and fresh mint (gorgeous with ice in Summer)

Yes I've tried squeezing lemon juice in water and it's much nicer - I'm just too disorganised/lazy to ever have lemons in the house - must get in the habit!

Did jab no. 6 this evening - hoping not to have too much of a rough day tomorrow, as last week on 5mg really took it out of me 🤞

alltablenochairs · 17/02/2025 23:48

For those who like slightly chilled, fruity water I have in thr past brought a 5kg box of lemons from crowdfarming, mandolined the lot (get a chainmail glove too, your fingertips will thank you!), frozen them flat on a silicone baking tray then stuck them in a freezer box. Slices of fresh lemon AND a cold drink. Win win.

Food wise here I get gousto boxes. Yes, it's lazy cooking, yes it can get a bit 'samey', yes it's expensive however I don't have the energy or inclination to want to cook from scratch every night. It also stops DS from getting stuck in an obsessive food rut and only eating x meal on y date if he knows what the meals are for the week ahead. My 15 year old would live off noodles, pepperoni pizza and cold sliced beef if she could.

Arglefraster · 17/02/2025 23:49

@MooBaggage if you slice a lemon & freeze it's an easy way to have them ready to drop into your water.

Hope this week's 5 is far more gentle on you!

MooBaggage · 18/02/2025 08:26

So weirdly, I feel bloody amazing today!! I've woken up feeling like I did the day after my first injection - all calm and happy and really really good 😮😍 Still thinking I'll stick to 5mg for my next month's order as all the food noise has disappeared and I feel like I'm doing really well, eating-wise, so might as well stick to 5mg for a while.

NSV today - am back in the trousers that I could only do up by using an elastic band looped through the button hole and around the button - they just do up now and are lovely and comfortable! I got fed up of worrying about the elastic band showing so haven't worn them for about a year. Hurrah!!

Questions1234 · 18/02/2025 08:35

Thanks for everyone for all their tips for constipation… will certainly incorporate going forward.

The constipation situation improved, only for me to have the most hideous nausea/stomach pains overnight. I looked on the Shotsy app and looks like yesterday was the peak of my first 3.75mg jab in my system (first 3.75mg jab on Saturday after 6 x 2.5mg). It’s better now I’m up and breakfasted, but only will be going up to 5mg when I’m absolutely certain I need it! I think on balance I was right to go up as was feeling hunger on 2.5mg and was seeing my daily calories creep up, but hoping I can stick at this for a while at least…
