Welcome @Burnserns!

Lots of us including me are on the one day at a time. I don't have a TW as I found the thought too overwhelming at the start. Just plodding along and will see where I end up!

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 16/02/2025 11:38

Today is another birthday meal - this time for my Dad, who's 80 today. Must admit I'll be glad when it's tomorrow and a normal week with normal routines again! Our family birthdays are all between Jan - April - has always been a pain but even more tricky at the moment!

Isn’t it funny how that happens- our whole family are November/December, even my best friend and my husband. Absolute nightmare when you’ve got Christmas shopping as well, as I need to think of two
presents for pretty much everyone! Feel like I did my family a favour by having spring and summer babies xD

welcome @Burnserns ! I’m currently on my 4th week and it has been so helpful having this thread to get a little glimpse into the future

Hi all, it's been a week since I was on here.
Sadly my dad died last Sunday 😭 and it's been just the most awful time.
Today I am meant to begin my 5mg dose (I am beginning week 5 in total).

I have to say I am nervous to do it as not sure I can cope with side effects in addition to my painful grief.

Did anyone here do 3.75mg temporary jump?

My weight loss is impressive as
SW 136kg 13-01-25
CW 127kg

I have no idea what I am aiming for yet but I guess in the 80's but this is still'overweight' BMI. I remember feeling healthy at about 85kg about 12 years ago.

Grateful for any wisdom about the leap to 5mg today.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 16/02/2025 12:47

Oh and on the 'B bump', the lower one is shrinking much quicker than the top one.

As for face: I gave dermaplaning a god and happy with results of de fuzzing.
I have invested (a lot) in face and neck creams which I think are helping as my face has changed the most (including my littler nose).

RobinEllacotStrike · 16/02/2025 12:54

NSV. I have just bought a pair of size 16 jeans and they fit perfectly.

I can't remember last time I wore 16 bottoms. Decades.

Oh & Sainsbury's have 20% off clothes right now too. These barrel leg jeans have been discussed a lot in Style & Beauty and I was delighted to pick up a pair for £20. Plus a multipack of mid size undies for £3.50.

Bargain Sunday!

Hello newcomers to this thread, and congratulations on all the losses.

WeAllHaveWings · 16/02/2025 13:02

@Reginaphalangeeeee so sorry for your loss. I remember losing my dad around 10 years ago, the pain and grief was almost physical. Take care of yourself, and hope you have people around you to support you. 💗

I did 3.75mg initially as a jump to 5mg, have stuck with it for the last 6 months!

Maybe even stick to 2.5mg for now, keep it consistent so there is a low risk of new side effects until things are more settled around you. The most important thing just now is you and your loved ones.

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 16/02/2025 13:17

@Reginaphalangeeeee no advice about the jump to 3.75 I’m afraid but just wanted to say I’m so sorry for your loss, hope you find some peace and comfort where you can x

So sorry that is very hard for you all

I lost my dad two years ago and the pain each day is a lot to take

Go easy on yourself xxxxxx

@Reginaphalangeeeee Sending you kind thoughts and condolences. My Dad dies 20 years ago and I still miss him and feel the grief at times although lovely memories help. Somebody told me back then that we build our lives like building a house and our parents form a big part of the foundations we build on so when they go, the whole house changes and has to be reassessed and underpinned. It will never be quite the same but can, in time, be made right. The analogy helped me at the time and I hope it might be useful for you too.

I would probably stay at a lower dose for now if I were you. This is not a time to focus on food, dose, symptoms, etc. I had a stressful time last year and had dreadful nausea, looking back I'm not sure if it was the MJ, the stress, the not eating well and regularly or all of those so I brought my dose down till things settled and felt it helped

Amarajean · 16/02/2025 13:53

@Reginaphalangeeeee so sorry for your loss! I lost my dad a year ago but I feel ok about it as I focus on the happy times.

I've no advice really about the jump to 5 mg as I've not experienced side effects and I'm on 7.5 ,I've been lucky really!
Maybe give yourself a bit longer on the lower dose as the last thing you need right now is to be worrying about side effects.

alltablenochairs · 16/02/2025 17:00

@Reginaphalangeeeee
Sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad. May you find comfort and peace over the coming days and weeks.

Burnserns
I don't have an end goal in sight either. Too many years of slimming clubs give me an absolute horror of wanting to do that. Instead I have a series of interim goals based around key events (weight I was before I got ill, weight I was when I was pregnant with my 11 year old, losing the same weight as my 11 year old weighs now, being the same weight as I was when pregnant with my 15 year old). I've already achieved the first one.
I'm not expecting miracles overnight though because life just doesn't work like that.

SqueakyDinosaur · 16/02/2025 18:00

@Reginaphalangeeeee I am very sorry for your loss. The grief lessens, but it's always there. Be kind to yourself, as much as you can.

Re 3.75mg, I read several horror stories just as I was about to go to 5mg, so I did I think a week of 3.75mg and then a 4.25mg on my way. I probably needn't have bothered as I have never had side effects apart from constipation (not helped by opioids for arthritic pain), but it was fine - but then I'm remarkably unreactive to drugs in terms of side effects. The only time I've ever had a dramatic bad reaction was to a chemotherapy drug (either carboplatin or paclitaxel, can't remember which) and I very much hope never to test my reaction to that again!

I’m so sorry for your loss. My mum died on the 16th January and we had her funeral on 14th Feb.

A friend who lost her dad a few years ago gave me some good advice. You can’t grieve everyday. You will laugh and think of other things and there’s nothing wrong with that.

I started MJ at the beginning of Jan this year and am on my first 5mg pen. It’s ok - you can do this!

alltablenochairs · 16/02/2025 20:04

Question- is there a max temperature MJ pens can be stored at once opened? I know some meds have to be kept below a certain temperature.

The reason I'm asking is that my house is constantly heated to 24 degrees. Otherwise I get cold and stay cold thanks to a mix of MJ and pre existing health issues. DH and the kids have started wearing shorts and t shirts in the house and DH tells me I'd be cold in the desert.

Pro tip: don't move to the W. Scotland if you don't like the cold, wet, wind or a mix of the 3.

WeAllHaveWings · 16/02/2025 20:08

@alltablenochairs doubt the 30 degree limit will hit us often here on Scotlands west coast!

Could you not store it in the fridge? I just keep mine in there

SilenceInside · 16/02/2025 20:52

As mentioned, the pens need to be kept under 30 degrees C. I keep mine in the fridge all the time too as then I know it's at a constant temp.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 16/02/2025 23:03

Thank you all for kind messages.

@CanIGoHomeNowPlease
I am so sorry about your mum too. I hope being the other side of the funeral has been a relief and given much needed peace. I am just so sad, a deep gut wrenching sadness I thankfully never knew existed. It worries me most this broken version of me will be the me of the future.

However, within this sadness I have more self compassion and love for myself than before and know I deserve this chance to be healthier so I want to continue to succeed. For me!
I decided 3.75ml in the end (did x45 clicks) to give a half way house to 5mg.
I'll make decision about next week, next week.

Thanks all

Arglefraster · 17/02/2025 00:14

@Reginaphalangeeeee I'm so sorry about your dad. I hope your grief is a gentle one. You will never be the same (nothing stays the same) but you are not broken & the new you will still find joy.

I think 3.75 was a good call (I did 6 weeks on 3.75 & have only just gone up to 5), I hope it proves uneventful for you too.

Questions1234 · 17/02/2025 06:28

I know it has been done on and off throughout the thread, but can I ask again about constipation advice?

I’m on week 7 (first jab or 3.75mg on Saturday) and in the last 10 days or so, constipation has hit with vengeance. (Sorry if TMI) but I’m still managing to pass stools, but I am definitely constipated and I don’t want it to get any worse!

It’s not a surprise as I’m inclined that way, but can’t work out what has changed in the last 10 days? I’ve been on psyllium husk since the beginning, and added in 🥝🥝 a few weeks ago. I drink loads of water and average about 7 or so portions of fruit and veg a day. I have massively cut down on carbs/upped protein, but that’s been since the beginning?

So any tips to a) get things moving now (gently as I’m out and about with the kids this week) and b) help prevent on an ongoing basis?

Thank you!

MooBaggage · 17/02/2025 07:18

@Questions1234 I always had the opposite problem (with long term IBS-D) but now find myself slightly constipated for the first time in my life!

I tried kiwis but really don't like them. So moved on to milled flaxseed and that seems to do the trick! I put a couple of spoons in my smoothies and all is good 😊

You can get packets of milled flaxseed from Tesco. I did start off with trying whole flaxseed, but that gave me really bad stomach ache - apparently it's much harder to digest, so you do need to mill or crush it. I'm lazy, so just buy it ready milled!

Good luck!

Thanks very much for the suggestion. I had some in the cupboard so have added to my breakfast. Do you find a couple of spoons does the trick? I was looking at fibre content and looks like you’d need to eat a bowl of it, so guessing it’s like super fibre or something?!

RobinEllacotStrike · 17/02/2025 09:22

If 🥝🥝 don't work:

Flaxseeds as suggested by another.

Life changing loaf of bread - couple of slices a day. It's not bread but it is life changing.

I find coffee helps to - um - get things moving. Also oranges and plums.

The great mover of the 80's was morning coffee and a smoke.
