I need to investigate slow cooking now! I got given a Ninja as a moving hoise present and the slow cooker setting is the only one I haven't used! I get worried about leaving it switched on... But will read the instructions and give it a go 😃

alltablenochairs · 12/02/2025 23:20

It's all about the love for my instant pot here. Slow cooker, pressure cooker and also the yoghurt setting.

I don't eat meat so my contribution would be something like a vegetable biryani. Bit faffy but epic. My teen loves this, especially cold for breakfast the next day. You could also make it with frozen veg.

2 onions
About 800ml mixed veg- whatever going bendy in my fridge. Cauliflower, carrot, green beans, peppers, squash, cabbage, anything goes really apart from potatoes. Chop it into similar size chunks about the size of a hazlenut
2 finely chopped tomatoes
1 cup rice, washed.
1 tablespoon garlic ginger paste
1 cinnamon stick
2 bay leaves
3 green cardamom
3 cloves
1 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric
1 tsp garam masala
Salt

Finely chop onions and fry in a large pot till soft.
Add chopped tomato & garlic/ginger paste and cook gently until tomatoes start to break down
Add all the spices along with another tsp oil (stops spices tasting 'raw')
Add veg and cook for a further 5 mins
Add rice, stir to coat in the veg and spice mix
Add water & salt or veg stock to come to 1cm above mix
Put lid on pan, turn heat as low as it goes and leave to cook.

I REALLY want some of this now.

alltablenochairs · 12/02/2025 23:26

For a slightly easier, less faffy recipe:

'Dry' basmati rice.

250g basmati rice, rinsed
6 green cardamom
4 cloves
4-6 black peppercorns lightly bashed
1/2 tsp turmeric
Cinnamon stick
1 chopped onion.
1 bay leaf if you have it

Fry the onion till soft
Add the spices with 1tsp oil and cook for 1 min.
Add the rice and top up the pan to 1cm above the rice with cold water
Bring to the boil, put a lid on the pan and then turn the heat to low. Leave till all water gone (about 15 mins), stir, put lid on and leave for another 10 mins or so.

Hello!

Just visiting as was awake at Silly O Clock and fancied some inspiration and read the whole thread!

Im 4.5 weeks in and nearly lost a stone but have 10 to go. Reading your thread has been a real inspiration. Wonderful to hear all the amazing losses and the long term consistency of losing weight making such a difference.

Asn people's nsv - and clothes - can't wait for that to be me.

You're all doing amazing and it's been so inspiring to read your thread ❤️.

I'm on my first week of 5mg and so nauseas and so tired. I spent most of yesterday afternoon in bed and am going to bed early. I've had some issues with fatigue anyway pre mj but this seems to have compounded it. I think I'm in this for the long haul though so hoping it settles a bit.

Is the received wisdom to stay on a low dose while it "works"? I'm so far "only" losing 2lb a week and no huge first week loss but have a feeling I'll have lost more this week on 5 as I'm really not hungry.

WafflingDreamer · 13/02/2025 07:31

Tough week this week, I have had a bit of a cold and my head feels like it weighs an extra 10lb alone. I've been really hungry all week so decided to move up to 7.5mg only 1lb off this week but I feel like I'm holding onto loads of water so hopefully I'll have a nicer loss next week so I stay on track for 4st off by my birthday (11lb to go in 5 weigh ins)

Weigh in number 19
SW 21st 9lb (BMI 44.8)
CW 18st 6lb
GW 11st 9lb (BMI 24.1)
1lb down this week
Losses so far; 4, 1, 5, 1, 3, 4, 2, 2, 2, 4, 1, +3, 5, 1, 3, 2, 4, 3, 1
Total loss 45lbs / 3st 3lb

Mini goal 17st 9lb by 20/3 - total loss 4st/56lbs

InfoSecInTheCity · 13/02/2025 07:56

Having a cold always makes me starving @WafflingDreamer, try things like hot ribena i sometimes find a hot drink eases the desire to eat and there's something comforting about a hot squash when you're poorly.

Hope you feel better soon.

InfoSecInTheCity · 13/02/2025 08:02

Welcome to the thread @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden wisdom is very split on dosing schedule so I always recommend speaking to your prescriber and getting their advice. For me, I was prescribed due to diabetes and the guidance is different, you are advised to stay on 5mg until it stops working as well, I've had 20 x 5mg doses and going to move up next week to 7.5mg.

I'm quite near the end (ish) of my weight loss though only about 4 lbs off healthy BMI now, started at 33 BMI. Personally the approach of sticking on low doses makes sense to me because it gives room to move up near the end when the loss slows down and you need to reduce your intake because your body is smaller and using less calories.

I'm aiming for about BMI 22/23 so I'm firmly in the middle of the healthy range, then I may need to go down to the lowest dose for diabetes or may need to come off it altogether, we'll see.

gimmemounjaro · 13/02/2025 08:11

Yes, @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden
it's advised to stay on a dose until it stops working and then move up. This helps with side effects and means you won't run out of doses iykwim. With a lot to lose, if you go racing up to 15mg and then it becomes less effective after a couple of months, you have nowhere to go. It's also cheaper.

2lbs a week with the odd 3-4 and the odd 0-1 is perfect pacing and will help to protect you from all the nasty consequences of super quick weight loss - gallstones, muscle loss, loose skin, malnutrition, hair loss, metabolic dysfunction. It's so tempting to try and do it quickly but unfortunately really not a good idea. This change is for life, there's no rush to get there.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 13/02/2025 08:15

Thankyou both. Yes wise words!

We're at about the same stage with the same weight loss! I started on the 5 mg dose on Monday and have also been really nauseous and knackered..! Feeling tons better this morning though, so hopefully things will start to settle down.

My food suppression is huge though - I've never not been able to eat before... I managed 1 x v small meal yesterday but will try and eat more today now I'm feeling more human. I kept my water intake high though, and had a fruit smoothie as well as the meal, so not too terrible!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 13/02/2025 08:33

waves at Moo. Wow yes same place and similar symptoms! I've been making myself eat breakfast thinking it might help the nausea but not sure anything is. I was quite bad with my first jab though and then each jab after it lasted a bit less so hoping this happens again. I'm tempted to stay on 5 though for a bit as don't want to do this again for a bit! I really hope the weight loss happens 🤞

Orangesandlemons77 · 13/02/2025 11:32

I had the nausea around 5mg but it went over time and now I am on 10mg with no nausea.

hellohellooo · 13/02/2025 11:48

@MooBaggage

I'm very similar

Chronic over eater

Never knew that feeling of being full or having small portions

The exhausted feeling is too much

Iwanttoputmytreeup · 13/02/2025 14:56

So I have just received my third 7.5 pen but thinking I should have ordered 10. Losses slowing right down to a pound but still have pretty good suppression and little food noise. Due to take bonus does of current pen tomorrow, but wasn't sure if to take the excess as a bridge towards the 10, and then use the next pen and syringes to make it up towards 9 or 10 for each dose of the next pen (would be able to order then pen after in plenty of time as used bonus dose in each time). Should I do that? And if I did is it the "set" 0.6 injection plus 0.2 so the 0.8 makes it around 10......or have I got that completely wrong? :) One pound off a 4 stone loss now since the very end of September which is wonderful...but want it to keep going!

NewbieMJ · 13/02/2025 15:09

@Iwanttoputmytreeup I did the opposite last time - ordered the 10mg pen prematurely and decided to stick to 7.5mg, so I have just been counting clicks to give me the 7.5, then last week I did 8mg (which is the best suppression I have ever got since the beginning and it felt like my sweet spot). On Monday there, I went up to 8.5mg which turned out to be a disaster, as while short-lived (just lasted the night), it gave me horrible stomach cramps (never had side effect til then), so back down to 8mg for me next Monday.

If you are still having good suppression and low food noise, it might be OK to stay on 7.5mg and you can review later on? But someone more knowledgeable can advise what to do to supplement your dose. It may not be necessary to jump up to the whole 10mg, if that makes sense? 8mg+ might be sufficient for now?

1 pound off 4 stone is fantastic, I've lost 3 stone since beginning of September so a lot slower than you. That's a brilliant loss. Well done.

Yes, 0.8ml or 80 clicks ( ie 2 x 40 or 60 + 20 clicks with separate needle tips) would equal a 10mg dose.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 13/02/2025 18:25

@Orangesandlemons77 That's hopeful then. I'm so very tired and morning nausea and now a little bit of D and really dont want this long term!!

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 13/02/2025 19:21

Did my 4th jab of 2.5mg yesterday and I’ve been quite hungry today- seems to be getting less effective every week. Will just have to try and power through with willpower this week and hope moving up to 5mg next week sorts me out!

MooBaggage · 13/02/2025 23:00

It's my birthday today and dp had booked an amazing place for dinner - I've been nervous all week re: whether I'd be able to enjoy it - especially after feeling so nauseous after moving to 5mg on Monday.

So the trick today was to just have a smoothie for breakfast and a choc protein drink at lunchtime - and then thoroughly enjoyed my meal! Had a small starter and a mains, no pud. Did have a few cocktails, which I enjoyed, but didn't get smashed and haven't got any desire to e.g. drink tomorrow.

I definitely ate and drank more tonight than I have since starting on MJ - but it gives me hope for the long term, that with planning you can have an indulgent meal and my mind is instantly back on track for tomorrow👍💪

hellohellooo · 13/02/2025 23:01

Fabulous @MooBaggage

Hope you had the best day ever

SqueakyDinosaur · 13/02/2025 23:40

Happy Birthday @MooBaggage ! I hope you've had a lovely day.

I'm annoyingly still bobbing around losing and regaining the same couple of kilos over and over. It's partly because I have quite restricted mobility, partly because I haven't eaten enough vegetables nor drunk enough water, I think, plus I get bunged up quite easily because of painkillers (see restricted mobility). But I've been pretty good this week so fingers crossed it will eventually start to show on the scales again!

SilenceInside · 14/02/2025 10:59

Morning to everyone. Friday weigh in day for me.

Current stats at the end of week 32, started on 5th July 2024:

SW: 139kg (21st 12 lbs)
CW: 94.4kg (14st 12 lbs), was 95kg (14st 13lbs) last week
GW: 90kg (14st 2 lbs) fourth interim goal.
Total of 98 pounds down, or 44.6kg.
Current pen: 7.5mg, 22 weeks on this dosage

Some milestones achieved this week. 98 pounds or 7 stones lost since my first injection. 100 pounds lost in total from when I decided to apply online for the first prescription as I lost 2 pounds in the week waiting for the first pen to be delivered. I am now just over 60% of the way to my final target weight (10st 4lbs), and I have lost 32% of my starting weight.

QueenOfHiraeth · 14/02/2025 11:19

Woohoo! I've lost that final pesky pound to hit my 4stone mark!
Started MH last May but it's taken since the start of January to discard the last pound or two, longer if you count that I'd regained a bit over Christmas and New Year but I don't care - it's gone!!! Smile

gimmemounjaro · 14/02/2025 12:24

Congrats on the 7st and 4st milestones 👏👏

Like @SqueakyDinosaur I am bobbing about barely losing and have been since beginning of Jan. I'm choosing to think of it as my body pausing and adapting to (hopefully) a new set point before continuing. But I'd be happy to stay here if that's the way the cookie crumbles, I've lost 4 stone too and now a smallish size 14.

I have 16lbs to go to healthy BMI, 23lbs to goal, but I don't want to eat any less really - my metabolism is so screwed, I need to stay around 1100 kcal per day to lose anything at all. Main priority at the moment is exercise and strength training to try and raise that.
