Love your post, @InfoSecInTheCity 😊

I think the last few posts (including my own!) have reminded me that MJ isn't the 'easy' answer to losing weight. It's medication that is finally something that helps and works, but it's not straightforward and although a lot of the food noise might have gone, we're still 'us' and need to keep battling sometimes.

I'm typing this at 3.30am as I'm still feeling a bit rough, have a terrible headache and really bad heartburn - have had the headaches since starting on MJ, but right now, everything is dialled up on the 5mg. Hopefully I just need to ride it out and it will all start to settle!

I'm thinking back to someone's post a while ago on what do we want to do when the weight has gone, that we couldn't do with it - all the exciting, adventuous stuff - I loved that post and like to think about it when I'm having a hard day! I think I'll be able to travel more easily - I'm retiring in 4 years' time and I want to see the world! I'll be able to fly more easily - seatbelts will fit and I'll have more energy! I'll be able to walk further around different places and not get frustrated with this huge, slow body. I'll be able to fit into seats at events without getting bruises on my bum! Thoughts like this keep me going 😊

Holland and barrett peppermint capsules are your friend for the sulphur burps. Doesn't stop them, just makes them considerably more pleasant.

Morning! :) end of week 3 for me and another 2lbs down

SW: 18st 5lbs
CW: 17st 10lbs
GW: 12st 7lbs

@MooBaggage Ive been thinking about that too! My daughter has been asking me to do clip and climb with her so that’s on the list. And I’d like to go horse riding

NewbieMJ · 12/02/2025 10:13

@InfoSecInTheCity - what an great post, thank you for it.

@MooBaggage Thanks for that. I think reminding ourselves of the advantages of losing the excess weight is such a good motivator. I have just ordered standard fit sandals for the summer - such a joy, and such a better selection when you don't have to worry about wide fit. I also am going on hols in April/May and already know I will be more comfortable in my plane seat, and zero fears about the seat-belt for the first time in adulthood. I listed a huge amount of clothes the other day for sale; all hanging off me. I was not even phased by parting with my lovely dresses, as the thought of getting replacements fills me with more joy than saying farewell to my much loved clothes.

For those of you struggling with hunger, I would definitely have a re-set as @InfoSecInTheCity suggests. Some great advice there. I would also suggest (and I realise it is not for everyone, so no worries if you just scroll past) to look at the foods you are eating and just double-check they are nutritionally dense, good amounts of protein and lots of veg. Eat the veg first. Up healthy fats and try to avoid refined carbs or sugar). You will automatically feel full (thanks to the healthy fats), not hungry and it will become so much easier. It takes a day, possibly 2. As I say, not for everyone, but once you're into the swing of it, the food noise will diminish, giving MJ a helping hand, and will allow you get back on track.

I know it's been mentioned a few times now, but for those with digestive issues, diarrhoea and stomach upsets, if you are not already on a probiotic, then it is worthwhile. They really can address these issues fairly speedily.

I made a huge mistake myself on Monday - I took 8.5mg (had done 8mg the week (up from 7.5) before with great results). It was too soon and too much and had a hellish night with stomach cramps. Much better the next morning, but it was enough to remind me to stay on 8mg.

And FINALLY, I have lost 3 stone. Woo hoo. 18.11 to 15.11. I have a long way to go, but that particular milestone feels amazing, and was a long time coming!

Snap (pretty much)!! Hopefully someone has been thorough similar and has advice

I'm having this and am increasing to 12.5/15mg.

I'm doing a tree canopy adventure thing with 3 km of ziplines with my daughter in a couple of months.
Putting aside fear of heights, I was thinking I wouldn't do it - too big, unfit etc. But now I am lighter & stronger & fitter I have decided I will do it with my teen daughters.

Plus the 24+ hours in a airplane seat getting there will be a lot more comfy.

RobinEllacotStrike · 12/02/2025 12:48

EDIT ** 1km zipline (not 3km)

Amarajean · 12/02/2025 13:18

@InfoSecInTheCity thanks for your reply!
I get what you mean and you're right I could do with getting back to basics and that's just what I'm going to do!
I've been eating mostly all bran and fruit so that's not good. I will have to start cooking I think, something I've not been doing for a good while.

I'm going to give myself a shake to remind me that this journey is a long one and certainly not a quick fix.

hellohellooo · 12/02/2025 13:20

Omelette

Oven bake salmon onions and lots of veg in there too

Meatballs

Turkey gravy and loads of roasted veg

I'm stuck sorry don't have many other go to food options right now

Anyone else?

RobinEllacotStrike · 12/02/2025 13:53

my back to basics is chicken & greek salad - both can be made in advance:

Pound chicken breasts/chicken thighs between some baking paper - season, spice to taste. Pan fry in a little olive oil, or grill, or airfry. I do a pack at a time.
Chicken can keep for several days in the fridge and sliced up to add to salad.

Large greek salad - tomatoes, cucumber, red peppers, red onion, olives, crumbled feta cheese.

Both these are easy to prep in advance, keep for a few days in fridge and you can quickly prepare delicious high protein, high veg meals.

Another basic is to make a large soup - I WFH and I will often make a lentil or chicken & veg soup & eat it all week.

Eggs - pre boiled keep a while in fridge, omelette, scrambled. Eggs are fast.

My DD has always suffered from hanger - I remember when she was wee I would often arrive home, be in the door and I would have 2 eggs scrambled in a little butter & on a plate & in front of her in a matter of a few minutes. Now I can do the same for me 🤣

Fruit & yoghurt is a good default and I usually have one meal a day of fruit, greek yoghurt & raw almonds. Today was 🥝🥝🍌& 🫐 for lunch

RobinEllacotStrike · 12/02/2025 13:59

always make enough for leftovers - keeps cooking time down.

meatyryvita · 12/02/2025 14:04

I make lots of filling soup - pumpkin, lentil etc. for easy and quick lunches. I also have plenty of beans (a creamy, spicy bean dish with a cheesy breadcrumb topping was last nights' dinner and today's lunch) as I'm a veggie and need the protein.

MooBaggage · 12/02/2025 14:43

I'm a smoothie queen! Fruit smoothie in the mornings for breakfast - now including dates and flax seed to get my digestive system going (sorry @RobinEllacotStrike but I really don't like kiwis....!).

Lunch and dinner are often quite similar - usually some form of chicken with spinach and cherry toms - I'm quite boring, but once I find something I like...!

Tonight I'm making a beef casserole as I've got family over - I'll probably just have the casserole but am doing roast potatoes for them! I've gone off carbs completely since starting MJ.

Chocolate protein drink mid-afternoon to help with protein intake and sometimes in the evening as a 'treat' 😊

I'm trying to up my water - didn't used to drink any but am now drinking at least 1 x litre a day. I know it should be 2 x litres, but I'm finding that difficult - but keeping trying....

gimmemounjaro · 12/02/2025 15:23

For lunch I tend to make a salad that lasts a few days and then a soup that lasts a few days. So this week it's spiced chickpea salad and I just add some protein, prawns yesterday and tuna today and tomorrow. I often have some kimchi and pickled beetroot on the side, almost calorie free and really good for you. I try to have cooked protein available all the time, whether that's ham, cooked chicken or tinned fish. Soup this week will be Angela Hartnett's minestrone recipe which has beans instead of pasta. I might chuck in some cooked chicken if there's some that needs eating up.

Dinner is DH's domain but bless him he is doing mostly variations on protein and veg to help me out. So tonight will be gammon with roasted sprouts and parsnips and some mashed swede. And probably an egg. A couple of times a week I make myself a protein smoothie for dinner, which is super quick and easy and means DH can indulge his love of carbs. Mostly using frozen fruit but with some added fresh 🥝🥝 and ground flax.

Snacks - usually nuts, or the occasional packet of kettle chips which are not brilliant but at least don't have nasty ingredients. And I do like a bit of dark chocolate, one square a day is enough to scratch that itch.

I don't eat breakfast, never really enjoyed eating in the morning so now don't bother and happily go until 1230-1 before having my lunch. I just have a cup of coffee with some collagen in it.

hellohellooo · 12/02/2025 15:25

These are all so helpful

Sounds so tasty

InfoSecInTheCity · 12/02/2025 17:27

I'm the queen of the slow cooker, I really hate cooking, I like the output but find the act of prepping and cooking boring and annoying so slow cooker works perfectly.

I have a 250 calorie "recipe" that I use for lunches, and make up enough for 4 portions at once, it's actually not 250 dead on because it depends a bit on what meat but it's in a range of 220-260 calories per portion. My laziness when it comes to cooking will now be showcased below.

  • 500g meat - lean beef stewing steak/ pork shoulder steaks/ 5% fat beef mince/ 2% fat Turkey mince. Generally whatever Tesco has available and I like the look of.
  • Tin of chopped tomatoes, prefer the ones that have chilli or garlic already in but not all shops sell them.
  • bag of ready sliced mushrooms
  • bag of ready sliced onions
  • bag of ready sliced peppers
  • packet of seasoning - shepherd pie/casserole/chilli/fajita honestly whatever is is the cupboard and makes me go 'oooo' when I find it.

Dump all raw in slow cooker on High at about 7am when sorting DDs breakfast

Forget about it.

Remember sometime around mid morning break, give it a stir and turn it down to Low.

Forget it's on or that I even made it, or that I have a kitchen at all.

Remember sometime around mid afternoon break and turn it off. Portion it out for fridge.

That sounds like so much fun! DH and I were meant to do something similar on our honeymoon but I forgot to book it!

Mealwise I’ve been having a lot of bean chilli, good for batch cooking and plenty of fibre and protein. We are getting Dominos tonight- DH’s choice to celebrate his new job- so I’m going to have to be very cautious lest I bloat like a balloon

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 12/02/2025 18:52

Excellent food chat, folks.

My contribution:

I batch cook boiled eggs and keep them in the fridge to peel and eat as a quick high protein snack or to have on toast. Jason’s protein sourdough from Tesco is more calorific than normal bread (168kcal per slice) but each slice has 12g protein. It is nice to be able to make a sandwich for lunch on hungrier days.

Barenaked Noodles are about 11kcal and make a good stir fry with garlic and ginger (I use the frozen cubes of purée), vegetables and protein.

I can also recommend the Muller / MyProtein chocolate mousse as the nicest example of the genre I have found. They are quite darkly chocolatey and not too sweet. My biggest problem is hiding them from DD who has developed a taste for them too 🤦🏻‍♀️. Unfortunately they are not suitable for vegetarians as they have beef gelatine as a thickener. As a meat eater I like this as it means they don’t have the claggy mouthfeel of some other yoghurts and mousses.

@VelociraptorsVelociRapping - just boiled a load of eggs today as well (half left whole and the other half made into a bowl of egg mayo), and I love the pureed frozen cubes of garlic & ginger, and garlic ones. They are reduced to 86p just now at ASDA which is a bargain.

@InfoSecInTheCity fellow slow cooker queen here😊

I have 2 on the go today. One has a chicken stroganoff and the other a pork belly casserole. Too stuffed to eat either as I had a late lunch. Will have one for lunch tomorrow, I expect!

I often have leftovers next day - handy having things good to go.

Love the top tips. Thanks everyone

Arglefraster · 12/02/2025 19:41

I've enjoyed the food chat too.

I'm another hard boiled egg person so they're always in the fridge.

Soup is on the hob & in the freezer.

I also make a berry sauce to have with my yogurt - a couple of huge bags of berries, inulin, chia seeds, honey boiled down & mashed a bit - portioned & frozen. So much quicker & easier than mixing it up each time.

My NSV this week (definitely not having any SV) is that it look me 3 hours to realise I was pottering about at home in my "outdoor" trousers because they're now as comfortable as my sloppy yoga trousers than I wear at home 😃 (they are however muddier 🙈🤣)

RobinEllacotStrike · 12/02/2025 20:08

I had crackers and leftover Christmas cheese (sheep cheese with truffle) and sliced tomatoes for dinner. Unusual meal for me these days.

I really CBA to cook the first few days post jag.

I need to do meal prep etc later in the week when I give a damn.

Lots of great meal ideas! I guess it's time for me to stop being so lazy.
Had a NSV today, whilst driving my car without a coat on I realised my belly was about 2 inches away from the steering wheel. Not had that since before Christmas!!
That's cheered me up and I definitely feel like this community has helped also,so thank you you lovely people.
