Well I took the plunge! Had my first injection yesterday late afternoon. I have thus far today had zero hunger pangs, which is great! I did have awful heartburn/reflux in the night though, which kept me awake.

I'm thinking that I do have to eat something this evening, even if I'm not hungry? What do you guys usually eat?

I'm a month in and my eating routine so far is this:

Breakfast - one fruit smoothie - homemade with frozen fruit, dates, greek yog and milk

Lunch - usually 1 x scrambled egg and/or some kind of meat, e.g. one cooked sausage or a couple of rashers of bacon, on fresh spinach with some cherry toms and dollops of Greek yog

afternoon snack - chocolate protein shake made with protein powder, cocoa, milk and crushed ice

Dinner - definitely protein, with spinach and cherry toms - so tonight I'm having chicken thighs, cooked in soy sauce and honey 🙂 My other treat is a burger with spinach, or next week I've ordered lamb steaks - I'll eat one and freeze the rest.

I'm tending to not have many/any carbs - not deliberately, but my body really doesn't want them - except for Saturday/Sunday, when my suppression is lower (I inject on a Monday) and I'm with dp - so last night, I had a tablespoon of rice with my chicken curry.

So basically I'm trying to keep my protein high, eat 3 times a day (even though I have no appetite) and am shovelling spinach in because I have folate deficiency, so am trying to kill 2 birds with one stone!

WeAllHaveWings · 10/02/2025 13:42

@idrinkandiknowthings the first couple of weeks, if you are not feeling hungry, will be about making sure you get enough calories in. Logging calories in an app can help to make sure you are getting enough over the week to be keeping healthy.

Focus on protein and veg and leave carbs to last. Plenty of water/liquids.

If you find you can't face eating calorie dense foods that are not too filling like nuts can be useful.

WeAllHaveWings · 10/02/2025 13:46

SilenceInside · 10/02/2025 13:38

@idrinkandiknowthings I would go for a lean protein and leafy non-starchy veg.

On days when the suppression is very high and I don't feel like eating much, I an usually manage a protein yoghurt - the only ones I like are the Arla ones, strawberry or blueberry for me but they do other flavours too.

Eating my Arla Strawberry yogurt pouch right now! (prefer them as they are a bit lighter than the quark in the tubs) Their sales for both must have rocketed recently! 🤣

Darlinghag · 10/02/2025 15:18

Interesting to hear everyone’s thoughts. I’m really conscious about trying to not become bitter and cynical about men. I hope it will only make me have a high standard about the kind of person I want in my life.

Its hard, because preferences are fine, and I have them too! I wouldn’t want to be fetishised as a fat person either, so its swings and roundabouts.

I’ve put a message out to Asda about maintenance plans this week - not because I am close to it, but because I think I need to start considering where I will buy from the closer I get to it. i think when i get another two stone off I will need to move to get the ok to maintain on it. I’ve had decent service from them, in terms of fast processing and trouble free delivery, so if Asda will have plans, I would consider staying, although they aren’t cheap!

i also only injected 7.5mg this week! As I have been bumping to 8mg but my pen jammed before I could get the extra .5mg. I could’ve syringed it but didn’t feel I could safely measure .5mg without clicks! Hey ho, I should still have enough for a bonus dose next week i think and then it will be a 10mg which mathematically is far easier to calculate!

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 10/02/2025 16:11

@MooBaggage my husband is also very much into my body at its current size and I have the same weird fears about him being less attracted to me if I’m slimmer! He’s been nothing but supportive about this whole process and very reassuring but I’m scared of losing that feeling of being totally desired. I was a couple of stone lighter when we met (pre kids!) but he’s never known me at a healthy weight

40coats · 10/02/2025 16:32

Fear not about the husbands, its you they love. My husband has experienced me from every size from 10 to 22 and has always been very positive about my body.
I showed him pictures recently of me at my heaviest and he can't remember me been that large even though I wasn't for a fairly long time.

EternalFatalist · 10/02/2025 16:47

I have finally reached the 11s and I'm 2 lbs away from losing a total 4 stone. (56 lbs - eek!) Slowly but surely I am getting to a healthy weight! My stats (blood pressure, blood sugar etc) are all really good - I just need my weight to get to the same point, as I am still "overweight". Damn lack of height! At least 5mg is still working for me.

MooBaggage · 11/02/2025 08:23

Feeling all miserable yesterday/today - my brain is trying to convince me that it's not working and I'm putting weight on - even though I'm definitely not! I think it's the combination of seeing horrible photos of myself from the weekend - I'm soooooo much bigger than I am in my head... 🙄 and just the realisation that I've got such a long way to go - which I realise is just how it is!

I also started on 5mg yesterday and expected to feel the difference today, but I don't at all, so am wondering how I'll be towards the end of the week?

Sigh. At least I don't want to eat my feelings away, like I would have in the past, as the suppression is still good right now - every cloud...! I don't know whether to weigh myself more often when I'm feeling like this, as reassurance, or whether to ignore the whole thing and power through the misery until I'm cheered up again?!

hellohellooo · 11/02/2025 08:31

@MooBaggage had a similar day

But woke up today to a 3lb loss this week

Some days I feel amazing

Some days I'm so so tired

I moved down to 7.5mg as I could not mentally cope with 10mg

We are doing amazing and we need to go easy on ourselves

Record all your wins on here too 🙌🙌🙌

Timetofindme · 11/02/2025 08:50

I was having a bit of a down day yesterday thinking I'm 5ish months into this journey and I've still got a long way to go.

Gave myself a bit of a talking to saying me 6 months ago would be overjoyed to be the weight I am now and I need to be patient.

Not official weigh day (but I weigh every day) and I've woken up to another pound off which tips me into something beginning with a 13! I've not been that in years. Even if it jumps back up tomorrow it still wouldn't be possible for that number to have shown unless I'm on a downwards trend so it's given me the boost I needed!

This thread is such a wonderfully supportive place and I'm so grateful to have found MJ and how supportive and encouraging we all are of each other's journeys whatever the speed may be!

Did they check your iron @alwaysscared ? Fatigue and sores around the mouth are signs of anaemia. A gentle iron like Floradix or Spatone is helpful but if you’re really low you can have an infusion and you won’t believe the difference it can make.

Great news on the blood sugars though. Well done Flowers

Woah!! I have had spots around my mouth for ages and was wondering what was going on. I've been tracking my food via MFP for the past week or so and see that I am barely hitting half my iron target. Just ordered some supplements and hope that does the trick.

Thanks for mentioning this - I just thought it was time of life/tough luck!

RobinEllacotStrike · 11/02/2025 10:03

supplementing iron is a classic cause of constipation - 2 kiwis a day can help

🥝🥝

RobinEllacotStrike · 11/02/2025 10:03

the high Vitamin C content in the 🥝🥝will help your body to absorb the iron so maybe take them around the same time

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 11/02/2025 11:17

And don’t have a cup of tea for an hour before or after as the tannins will stop the absorption of the iron 👍🏻

OMG I'm feeling rough today. Started on 5mg yesterday afternoon and am feeling soooo nauseous today - have just about eaten most of my lunch, but bloody hell it's hit me like a truck - just want to go to bed!

Did anyone else struggle going from 2.5mg to 5mg and when did it settle down again? If I feel like this all week I'm going to take less next Monday!

VelociraptorsVelociRapping · 11/02/2025 16:35

Yes, @MooBaggage. 5mg kicked my arse and is infamous for doing so because it’s the biggest dosage jump in absolute terms, being a doubling of your previous dose. It will settle down but you’ll have to ride it out, I’m afraid.

I'm moving up to 7.5mg as of next week, spoke with Diabetes nurse this morning and she's said I can increase then 4 weeks later move to the 10mg then I'll be on that indefinitely until it stops working or we make the decision to stop it.

I've been on 5mg since 3rd October so 20 doses all told and starting to be slightly less effective so going to bump up to get me through the last bit.

Weighed in at 11st 13.7lb this morning so only just scraping under 12stone but hey it's still under 12 stone!

I was 11 years old the last time my weight started with an 11. This is crazy!

I have lost 22% of my bodyweight since end of August last year and am within spitting distance of a healthy BMI.

I had a protein yoghurt at lunch, tasted and felt okay as the time but about half an hour later I felt 🤢 Passed quick enough but think I'll avoid in future

Info that's brilliant!! Well done! 😀

I'm feeling slightly more human - can't eat but am going to have a protein smoothie and go to bed early!

NSV - I bought a pair of size 20 jeggings from Asda and they fit 😊 Yes, they're jeggings, so the elastic waistband is doing a lot of heavy lifting, but they definitely fit. My size 22-24 jeans were getting too slippery/roomy,so they've gone in the bin 😁

WafflingDreamer · 11/02/2025 19:08

Anyone else getting cold sores with Mounjaro? I can't find it listed as a side effect but I have had loads since starting mounjaro; I even had an awful one on my eye lid, since going up from 5mg five weeks ago I've had one almost constantly. I take L-lysine which normally has them really well under control

BM202 · 11/02/2025 19:19

I’m a bit behind with this thread but great to read about all the success and encouragement here ❤️

I’ve been on mounjaro for 4 months now. For the last two weeks (jab 3 and 4 of 7.5mg) I’ve had horrible diarrhoea for 2-3 days, I’ve never had any side effects before except a couple of sulphur burps. Any advice as to why I’d suddenly get side effects? Or ways to minimise it? I’m a teacher so it’s really not ideal as I don’t have constant access to the loo!

peonym · 11/02/2025 21:33

Hi all

I'm struggling. I'm on 10mg and the past 2 doses I've had 2 days of awful diarrhoea / sulphur burps BUT I also feel like the food noise is massively back. Never had any issues with symptoms before. Absolutely not increasing the dose but worried if I go back down food noise will be back completely. I've even put on 2lbs! Any advice greatly appreciated!

Feeling quite despondent today! I am hovering between 109 kg to 111kg and I've been this way for a while now.
I'm thinking that mj is no longer working for me as I'm on 7.5 and have been for two weeks and I'm starving all the time!!
I even had a 'fuck it' moment today and ate a slice of cake.oh dear ! I'm surviving on will power but I'm afraid I could give in to the food noise at any moment, Any advice please ? It would be most welcome

Back to basics.

What does a days worth of food look like at the moment?
How much water are you drinking?
What is your current TDEE?
What is your activity level?

I think we've all had the odd slump here and there, it can get a bit monotonous and dull once you get into the middle section and the shine has started wearing off.

The fact that apparently the Sun has decided to go into witness protection and may never be seen again, so it's not just cold but also non-stop bloody grey and miserable is not helpful.

Stuff I have found helpful:

  • changing up my food, adding different seasonings, making more 'vibrant' meals with chilli, spring onions, peppers, fresh herbs and zingy spices.
  • trying a new exercise class, something that makes me feel a bit nervous but also a bit excited.
  • giving myself permission to have a treat, it might just be a skinny latte at a nice cafe next to the river where I can people watch and read my book for an hour, but doing something that feels like it's a bit more special.
  • going out to a new place with DH and DD, we did an overnight on the border of wales a few weeks ago and drove into Bristol on one of the days, we've also explored some random nature trails we found on google maps and visited a local market town to go to all the weird boutiques and craft shops, just different ways to boost your mood without eating your feelings.
