Starting Mounjaro with BMI 27/28

NotALotToLose · 26/01/2025 18:27

Keen to hear experiences of any Mounjaro users who had a lowish starting BMI. Obviously this only includes people who have other health concerns. I have high cholesterol so pharmacy were happy to prescribe to me with a BMI of 28.
I've lost 4lb in week one which I'm very happy with after many other unsuccessful attempts to get back to my previous size.
Any advice for those of us in the 'not a lot to lose' camp?

At the moment I feel like I’d be delighted to get to 23.5 BMI! I am only on my first pen at the moment. Do you have to keep providing body and scales pics to reorder with MedExpress?

I've ordered 3 times, I only had do a body pic the first time (and no scales pic). I think after a few months they might ask again.

Dunkou · 21/02/2025 13:30

@Tinydancer123 how did the 5mg go?

I'm still stuck on the tiny doses, I did 1.4mg last time and had a lot of suppression for 2 days. I got the head spins on it though so think it still lowers my blood pressure / blood sugar too much. I definitely eat enough I'm having 1200-1400 calories (aiming for 1200 but if I feel rough / hungry I eat a bit more). Which is too much as I've only lost 7 pounds in 7 weeks (and only half a pound a week the last 3 weeks). So seems pointless upping the MJ as I can't seem to eat less than 1200 and feel ok anyway.

I'll keep trying for a way to make this work though!

BachandBiscuits · 21/02/2025 14:13

W5 D3 - loss = zero pounds despite careful eating and more exercise 🙁
Just moved up to 5 so hoping for better results.
But at least no real side effects.
I am 5' 2'' with a BMI of 27 something, also mid 60s,
But I don't have much of an appetite anyway, so not much to cut back on.
I feel this is my last chance saloon before going out to pasture! 😂

Did you lose nothing this week or nothing the whole 5 weeks?

I feel your pain, I'm 5 foot 2 and 55 years old it's difficult! Started at BMI 27 and am 26 now (7 weeks in)

BachandBiscuits · 22/02/2025 00:09

The same three pounds, up and down, but already feeling much greater suppression on 5 so 🤞!

Great, it sounds like it's going to start working properly for you now then.

Hi all- just an update for those going onto 5mg . I took the dose of 5mg on week 5 - Thursday and have suffered with nausea ever since. I can manage it but it is not great . I find I am eating to ease the nausea. Further I cannot sleep..... I am really hopeful this is just the first week and that perhaps it will settle.

That's exactly how I feel on 2.5mg (I'm still on 1.4mg). Could you maybe try 3.75mg (45 clicks) next time? And maybe leave slightly longer than a week until you jab just to recover a bit?

BachandBiscuits · 24/02/2025 13:33

No, feeling a bit tired but that's all and scales finally starting to shift - down two pounds in two days 🤞

I will see how I go but I may have to do this, this afternoon I felt really weird and had to have some granola. I really hope however I do loss . That is fantastic you @BachandBiscuits lost well done. I do hope I lose but I feel perhaps I am eating more than I did on 2.5mg just because I feel so sick !

Dunkou · 24/02/2025 15:24

Yes... the kind of dizzy, woozy feeling. Granola is a good idea. Electrolytes help as well.

RememberDecember · 25/02/2025 06:35

Thinking about ordering second pen, did most of you go to the recommended 5mg?

MJconfessions · 25/02/2025 06:54

My BMI was higher when I started but overall I only needed to lose around 15kg to get to a healthy BMI. It took 4 months and was fairly easy going.

I stayed at 2.5mg for second pen and ordered 5mg for 3rd pen. Just so I have the option of going above 2.5mg if I feel like it.

I'm still at 1.4mg 7 weeks in so am not likely to go up much any time soon. I get too many side-effects, and I'm losing weight at the small dose so will stick with it and move up very slowly.

It all depends if you feel 2.5mg is working for you enough. You can always get the 5mg in case you want to go up (and just take a smaller dose from it you don't).

RememberDecember · 25/02/2025 07:00

@Dunkou glad you have found a dose that works for you. I think I’ll see how I feeel midway after the third dose, if I extract the bonus dose that will still give me time to reorder 2.5/5mg.

Still interested to hear how others have got on!

Tinydancer123 · 25/02/2025 11:36

Hi guys how are you all ? appears to be a few concerns in the news - I knew I could post here with no judgement. Do you think there are any symptoms we should watch out for ?

SharpOpalNewt · 25/02/2025 11:37

Does anyone on this do significant exercise? My BMI is 28.7. I am fit and do two runs a week, two weights sessions and one yoga. How do you feel on MJ when exercising?

I'm seriously considering it as I'd like to lose 15kg.

HeavyHeidi · 25/02/2025 11:43

@SharpOpalNewt I'm a fitness instructor in my free time, so teach a few classes per week and generally exercise most days. Haven't had any issues with that.

I'm 5 weeks in (still on 2.5mg as messed up a dose from my first pen) and have found exercise no problem at all.

I do 2 x weight sessions, 3/4 x reformer and a yoga class a week.

Hope that helps

Which concerns are those? I've not seen anything lately?

Have you managed to keep the weight off, @MJconfessions ?

I think I would once I lost it as I do so much exercise. Hoping I could lose the weight in a few months and then keep it off.

A rise in deaths related to the medication was on the news this morning,

Dunkou · 25/02/2025 12:41

Thanks yes I see it now. Having read the article below I'm not worried. Some of it will have been people who were taking it inappropriately (like Lottie Moss taking a huge dose when her BMI was verging on underweight, and ending up in hospital as she couldn't even drink water).

The 82 deaths are thought to be linked, but not a certainly. I guess most of them were pancreatitis. I think as long as you look out for symptoms of pancreatitis it's the best you can do. And not try to force higher dosages than is comfortable.

Thank you - rational and so well put. I always stress. I am very focussed on not going over the top with dosages etc and being sensible. How are you today ?
