Starting Mounjaro with BMI 27/28

NotALotToLose · 26/01/2025 18:27

Keen to hear experiences of any Mounjaro users who had a lowish starting BMI. Obviously this only includes people who have other health concerns. I have high cholesterol so pharmacy were happy to prescribe to me with a BMI of 28.
I've lost 4lb in week one which I'm very happy with after many other unsuccessful attempts to get back to my previous size.
Any advice for those of us in the 'not a lot to lose' camp?

I am going to order 5mg this 2nd dose has been way easier ! Plus the suppression on first dose was intense. I think if I have a bonus dose in this pen - I am going to do 3mg next friday then 3.5 mg the final Friday moving me towards tge 5mg. I even had chocolate yest and 1st dose that was not on my agenda in my mind at all !

Dunkou · 02/02/2025 16:48

@Tinydancer123 this is your first pen isn't it, and you've done 2 doses? I honestly wouldn't move beyond 2.5 until you've done at least 4 doses. The medicine builds each week, you'll be going too fast.

Yes first pen. Okay noted. It seems now I just feel sick but food noise is normal and hungry. The next 3 weeks are going to be willpower !

Tinydancer123 · 02/02/2025 17:25

Ps seems so strange as dose 1 hit me hard for a full 5 days !

It does seem to vary doesn't it. I read the January thread sometimes, and people who have felt nothing - neither side-effects or effects suddenly start feeling it around dose 3 or 4 of 2.5mg as it has built up in their system. So you might find it stronger again next time.

Tinydancer123 · 02/02/2025 19:47

@Dunkou it really does. I expected it to hit hard again as was so strong the first time. I took it at 7am Friday but I am having to really check myself to make correct choices. Where as last week I wanted veg / fruit and touched no chocolate . Water intake was really easy last week this time struggling. How are you ?

I'm fine, scales moved down a bit yesterday which was good. I'm managing to stick to my calories but with quite a lot of willpower. Meals do seem to fill me up for longer though. Did a 7 mile walk today so burned off a few calories!

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 02/02/2025 12:50

@ThatCoralShark thank you. That makes sense!

How do you know there will be enough medicine left to make a full dose?

There always is. They fill it with a set amount, unless you go crazy with the priming you’d get a full dose.

HeavyHeidi · 03/02/2025 08:15

Hm I'm feeling the suppression wasn't as good over the weekend - there was some mindless random snacking just beacuse I saw food. Or maybe because it was a weekend? Let's see how today goes.
I was not planning to go up to 5 after this dose, but may need to, if body is already getting used to it.

It does generally wear off quite a lot by day 5. So

W2 day 5.
It's very normal for me to eat more over the weekend, we are all home and DC need to be fed multiple times. I mean I didn't go crazy or anything, can't complain, just more than during weekdays.
I was not planning to go up to 5 for the next pen, but I think I'll get both 2.5 and 5 just in case and see how I feel.

I’m now at 10 and it never wears off, genuinely, I am consistent 24/7 with good suppression, I do think you need to move up as per dosing guidelines to find your optimal dose, then stay there, as they recommend, however I think some can’t, that never happens for them.

the optimal dose is the one below which you can’t tolerate, however it is clear when you get there, as for me, it never wore off.

HeavyHeidi · 03/02/2025 21:17

Happy to see I'm back to normal today - I mean, mounjaro normal. No desire to randomly snack. Hopefully the appetite was just a weekend thing.

MistyGray · 04/02/2025 11:20

Hi everyone
Can I join? I started MJ 4 weeks ago, BMI of 29 but have high BP.
SW: 13.02
CW: 12.9
GW: 11

WK1 loss: 1.5lbs
WK2: 2lbs
WK3: 2lbs

Getting weighed tonight, scales showing another 2lb loss hopefully. So that would be 7.5lbs in 4 weeks. BMI is showing as 27 now. I've just ordered my 2nd 2.5mg pen as had a few side effects on this dose - nauseous for a few days after first dose, dry mouth, bit of acid reflux, constipation and feeling tired.

Suppression wise, I'm good until around Friday (take dose Sat night) when food noise dies off a bit but it's manageable. Sticking at around 1300-1500 calories a day, so I could lose it faster but more interested in it being sustainable.

I have tried over the years to lose this extra 2 stone weight, go regularly to a SW class and have only once got to target then covid happened.....this injection is truly amazing. I have very little food noise on my good days, and I can over-ride it on the days when it is waning.

Plan is to continue with the 2nd 2.5mg pen and see how that goes. I'm a bit concerned with the new guidelines issued today though, meaning that once I fall below 27 BMI I might not be able to continue. I'd just like to get into the 'healthy weight' zone.

I'm on my 3rd injection of Moujarno and really blocked with constipation. Am using Fybrogel and Dulcolax with little joy! Anyone else struggling or found a solution please?

@dubai71 I eat 3/4 dried prunes every morning and that seems to have helped, along with making sure you drink copious amounts of water😬

For a while prune juice worked but now it's not so effective. So I am doing loads of water, magnesium daily, a couple of kiwis per day, and I have started putting chopped prunes, chia seeds and oat bran into my greek yogurt for breakfast. Seems to have got things going again.

Dunkou · 05/02/2025 07:18

I've found psiliyum husk tablets, flaxseed (I have it with oats and a dried apricot in the morning with milk) and loads of water help. I've never had constipation like it, even with those measures. It's like concrete (sorry tmi) though do still manage to go every day or two and it's only the first 3 days or so of jab.

I was due to take my 6th jab yesterday and am delaying until tomorrow. I'm just not that hungry, I assume my stomach has shrunk and all the extra protein has brought hunger levels down. So it seems pointless putting myself through side-effects for no reason. I'm staying fairly easily at 1200 calories.

I've lost 6 pounds now (in 6 weeks) and am really feeling the difference now in clothes being looser. A colleague said my face was thinner, I have a very chubby face so I was pleased (he knows I'm taking the jabs - I think he would find it inappropriate to say my body was thinner).

Week 1: 2.5mg
Week 2: 2mg
Week 3 - 5: 1.6mg
Week 6: not sure - considering going down to 1.3mg as would love to have a week without side-effects that affect my work (headache, insomnia, 'flu' feeling, nausea)

@happycolahappychildren I would have liked to have moved up to at least 2mg as my suppression only lasts 3 days (feels different to normal non-hunger) but the side effects aren't currently worth it.

If 2.5 is working for you then yes why not stop there for a while.

Tinydancer123 · 07/02/2025 14:01

Hi all, how are you. Well this week I gained no idea why. Just taken the third jab of 2.5 mg. The initial loss has def slowed and a little bit fed up as nothing has changed eating wise. x

Dunkou · 07/02/2025 21:01

@Tinydancer123 you had pretty good loss the first week though didn't you? It's probably just a blip and you will lose well next week.

I jabbed yesterday morning and dropped right down to 1.25mg (from 1.6mg) in a bid to not have side-effects. it worked in that the only side-effects were being freezing cold and constipated. The suppression is low though, but better than nothing. I'm going to jab again in 5 days and try and increase it a bit.

My loss is still 6lb after 6 weeks but feels like it's about to go down a bit more.
