Starting Mounjaro with BMI 27/28

NotALotToLose · 26/01/2025 18:27

Keen to hear experiences of any Mounjaro users who had a lowish starting BMI. Obviously this only includes people who have other health concerns. I have high cholesterol so pharmacy were happy to prescribe to me with a BMI of 28.
I've lost 4lb in week one which I'm very happy with after many other unsuccessful attempts to get back to my previous size.
Any advice for those of us in the 'not a lot to lose' camp?

@Dunkou have you looked into providers that offer some sort of maintenance plan? I must say that I haven’t, but I have got a while to go! Aware that once I get below 25 bmi it may be harder to order though (MedExpress)

MedExpress goes down to 23.5 and I'm aiming for 22 so should be close enough, as you can buy pens in advance a bit so stockpile a little.

I don't want to go on a maintenance plan, it's too expensive and I feel I should be able to keep the weight down myself. Saying that, I'm due a jab today and I'm bloody hungry, my stomach seems to have re-expanded having had a weekend of eating my maintenance calories rather than 1200.

SharpOpalNewt · 04/03/2025 19:08

Does anyone know with Superdrug? BMI 23 would be the lowest I'd want to go anyway.

Today was a great test as I had a very long day with work and the sort of day when I'm normally ravenous and discombulated from an early start. I haven't felt like that at all and have only needed to eat small meals.

Dunkou · 05/03/2025 08:21

@SharpOpalNewt I think it's 23 for Superdrug, not sure though, might be best to flick through one of the maintenance threads, I'm sure someone will have compared them all.

Dunkou · 05/03/2025 08:27

I don't think I will have much or any of a loss this week. The knock-on effect of having a friend stay at the weekend has been really bad constipation and trapped wind (ate a lot of red meat - spag Bol - which I haven't eaten at all on MJ). I had to eat out last night as well which has probably dragged the issue on, and again I reached maintenance calories rather than 1200. I was due to jab yesterday but will delay until tomorrow, don't fancy slowing my stomach down any more than it is already!

I'm on holiday in 10 days time and won't jab for that either, as I can't deal with stomach pains like I had yesterday while away. I'm only away 5 days so should manage to at least maintain.

On the plus side, I put my rings on yesterday, and they were too loose (haven't worn them for a couple of weeks). Tried some older ones that I haven't been able to wear for years and they fitted easily! I haven't been the weight I am now for 3 years.

UpUpUpU · 06/03/2025 11:39

I have just ordered my last pen and I dont know how I feel about it!

Excited that I am almost at the end of the weight loss journey or scared for the maintenance for life phase.

I must say I was impressed with my prescriber (Chemist4U) who asked for photos and my my goal weight as I am now BMI 23.8. They were happy to prescribe and it was nice that they checked I wasn't abusing it or wasting away.

So I am 4 weeks away from my holiday and was going to brave a bikini but I am not happy with my body shape and flabbiness, that exercise isn't helping. In clothes I feel great but in swimwear I feel old and wobbly. Saying that, I have just looked at last summers swimwear shots and I am significantly smaller looking.

Anyone else feel like this?

Dunkou · 06/03/2025 20:27

@UpUpUpU congrats on getting to your goal weight!

I have a stone to go still, but was looking in the mirror today in underwear and thinking I didn't look too bad...and then the sunlight hit me. I have cellulite absolutely everywhere. I'll be body brushing and stepping up the exercise. I've never been a gym fan or anything though so it's decades of not being bothered catching up with me.

Enjoy your holiday, and wear your bikini.

Tinydancer123 · 07/03/2025 04:08

Well done @UpUpUpU ! Amazing , wear the bikini.

I have stalled this week - feeling like I should go up but re-ordered the 5mg already ( typical ) No idea what to do but basically the scales are bouncing to my stone bracket 1,2 ,3 and 0 . I just cannot get to the next bracket and stabilise this weird 3 pounds !

I have about half a stone to go.

Does bodybrushing work ? @Dunkou exercise has been awful this week as I am really unwell. We have walked at least. Going to try and get out today if the coughing stops.

Dunkou · 07/03/2025 05:59

@Tinydancer123 it will probably just suddenly drop off, as you are still doing all the right things foodwise. My weight has crept up a pound or so but I know it will go down again. Once it hits a new 'low' I know even if the weight goes up a bit for a while it will eventually get back to the 'low' and then fall further, if I have still been eating below calorie level.

I won't lose much if any in next couple of weeks as going on holiday. I'm just trying to hold my nerve and not go off track altogether and give up (like every other year that this happens). Doing the jab does seem to give me resolve and a fresh start each week.

Not sure about the body brushing! It makes me feel better anyway, to feel I'm targeting the stubborn fat bits (lower stomach, thighs, back of upper arms).

Hi can I ask which online pharmacy you all used, I presume you used online?

JemOfAWoman · 26/01/2025 22:34

I started with a BMI of 30 at end of September. Started with a 2.5 dosage through Voy and repeated that for the second month. By end of November I was below my target weight so I stopped. Put on 4kg on a cruise just before Xmas (well worth it!) but have now got back to my target weight.

I'm happy with what I achieved, the weight loss is noticeable and I have dropped 2 dress sizes. What I have done is started taking Glucomannan Complex (recommended by Voy) I only take one dose a day instead of the recommended three, but it works for me.

It's changed my attitude to food a lot. I now ask myself whether I'm hungry or it's habit. I tend not to bother with lunch anymore, eat breakfast later and if I feel hungry late afternoon I have a babybel cheese, which I find a cure for any hunger pangs!

My joint pain has significantly improved and I find I have a lot more energy. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this treatment to anyone with an 'overweight' BMI

Good luck OP

Hi, can you tell me which glucomannan complex you use. Is this very different to glucosamine? I have severe hip joint pain, also overweight, and debating whether to start a weight loss drug but would like to try other thing’s first. My bmi is 27/28.

Hi there, I have been using Glucomannan which came from Voy but it was expensive. Just about to order these from Amazon as a replacement.

MedExpress as I wanted the £40 discount. They were fine so have stuck with them but would be cheaper elsewhere.

Tinydancer123 · 07/03/2025 11:26

Zava - I have a code if you would like @Autumnleaves4 . I could possibly get it cheaper but prefer to stay with one than switch.

UpUpUpU · 07/03/2025 14:45

I seem to stay the same weight for about 3-4 weeks then suddenly drop a kg. I weighed yesterday for my next prescription and was 61.1kg (have been for weeks) weighed today (3 days before period due so feel bloated and retaining water) and I’m 60.1kg !

This is the lightest I’ve been since I was early 20s I think (I’m 41 now) but I’m still uncomfortable with my wobbly bits and cellulite but oddly, don’t kind my stretch marks 🤔

SharpOpalNewt · 08/03/2025 14:55

Dropped 4lb week one and into the next stone - now in the 12s, where I haven't been since last year.

It's a great feeling isn't it, like feeling time reversing. I'm 9 weeks in and on a weight now I haven't been for 3 years. My goal is a weight from 6 years ago so feel I'm on my way!

Dunkou · 10/03/2025 07:23

Another pound down at the weekend, so that's 10 lbs in 10 weeks now. Still at 1.3mg, I've given up trying to move up. I would say the suppression was placebo, but the constipation for 3-4 days after jabbing tells me it's not!

I had a wardrobe reshuffle at the weekend. Took the Big Clothes up to the attic and brought down Small Clothes, ready for when I can fit in them. I don't have a lot inbetween - I bought loads of clothes about 7 years ago when I was at my goal weight. I then bought nothing during Covid and as the years went by and I got fatter I kept thinking 'it's a waste buying clothes now, I'll lose weight soon' so just got a few essentials. Then last summer I finally accepted my weight and bought lots of stuff, which is now too big.

Felt good to take the big stuff out of circulation though!

SharpOpalNewt · 15/03/2025 17:41

5.5 lbs off in two weeks, very pleased. BMI down a point already to 28.1.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 17/03/2025 11:30

My BMI is currently 25.3..... so another few pounds off and it will drop into the healthy bracket.

RememberDecember · 20/03/2025 23:25

I don’t seem to be losing anymore, if anything weight going upwards. Hoping 5mg next dose has more effect.

Dunkou · 21/03/2025 08:06

I’ve stalled for a couple of weeks - it was tricky, had a friend stay, some social events, went on holiday…getting back in routine again now and will jab tomorrow. I don’t seem to have put weight on, or maybe it’s just not showing up yet. Really did lose control of my eating on holiday.

SharpOpalNewt · 16/04/2025 21:24

How is everyone doing? Im 12lbs down, teetering on the edge of BMI 26, down from 29.

Pipsballoon · 17/04/2025 07:34

@SharpOpalNewt I’m similar! I’ve lost 12lbs, and I’m just moving into a 26 BMI (was 28) I’ve had to pause for a week while I had surgery, good news is that I’ve held it steady this week. I’m planning to keep going to lose another 10lbs and will probably start up again with a 2.5mg injection this weekend, and then back to 5mg the following week.

SharpOpalNewt · 17/04/2025 08:16

Great stuff @Pipsballoon . This thread was the one that convinced me to start on mounjaro more than any other. I need to lose 20lbs about to be just under BMI 25, then I'll see how I feel. I'm on 5mg now, due to move up to 7.5mg next week. Have had very few side effects so far on 2.5mg or 5mg.
