C25K runners - anyone want to join?

Finally hauled myself out of bed this morning to restart C25K, having been wanting to get back into running now that I’ve lost weight on MJ.

Two years ago I was able to run 10K… this morning the three minute runs in week 3 (I’m impatient…) were a real stretch - but it felt so good to be back out there.

I’ve struggled to get consistently into exercise since starting WLI in September but am now about a stone from target and really need to sort it out. I’m hoping getting into regular running will kick start some strength training motivation too.

Amyone else want to join in for mutual support?

@Midlifecrisisxamillion
I don't get that either - the jump to 20 mins. I just left it out and worked up to 20 mins gradually like the second app I use does. I guess it's great if you sail through it, but pretty demoralising if not! And I think maybe risky physically to suddenly try running for much longer than you are used to.

Thanks. I'm glad it's not just me. What's your other app?

@Midlifecrisisxamillion

It's this one - takes 8 weeks and 20 mins appears at week 7 run 2.

I do a bit of both from this one and the BBC/NHS one.

That’s interesting @gimmemounjaro, I had assumed that all apps would follow broadly the same structure. I might have a look at yours. I’ll definitely be doing another couple of week 4 runs before attempting week 5, and might repeat week 5 run 2 a few times too (2 x 8 min blocks of running).

I do remember from doing it in the past thinking that 20 mins would be impossible and somehow managing it. But now I am older and heavier so need to be sensible and pace myself.

I have come down with a bit of a miserable cold though. I’ll see how I’m feeling tomorrow but might need to have a short break. Hoping I don’t go back to square 1 🤞

@sylv165 At my age (mid 50s) and with not that much past fitness to fall back on I am always a bit worried about injuring myself, hence avoiding that early 20 min run!

I like mixing and matching from both apps and picking the next tiny step along the way from either of them. So always moving forward but always confident that I can do it. I am in no rush to get to any particular goal though, I just like to be doing some exercise.

I remember each time dreading that W5R3 20 minute run, each time doubting I'd be able to do it, but then feeling completely exhilarated afterwards and suddenly feeling like I was capable of running for much longer in time.

I've been out of the loop after walking my half marathon last Saturday and having MJ side effects before that, BUT today just went out this morning and started but this time at W2R1. I think I was being too ambitious thinking I could short cut things and start at Week 3 - there's no way I'd be able to cope with that twenty minute run so quickly! All went well today - so glad I did it!

I finished week 4 today. The last 5 minutes was still hard. I'll see how next week goes but may repeat if needed.

sylv165 · 01/02/2025 18:22

Well done @85reasons and @Midlifecrisisxamillion. I was due to do the final week 4 run today but I’ve had a cold and have developed a cough so had to abort after the first block of running. Hopefully it won’t hang around too long, really don’t want to lose momentum as I feel like I’ve just got into a rhythm with it.

Ah @sylv165 - hopefully you'll be back in no time. There is so much illness about at the moment. I am longing to get back to the feeling of being 'on a roll' with it all. It was lovely out today, I went with my teen daughter and ran along the coast in the sunshine - perfect.

Looking back it's been a bit of a rocky time settling into 10mg on MJ, I think I thought I was immune from side effects, but suddenly just wasn't feeling great. I am in my last stone (or so) to lose, the weight loss has massively slowed down although it is a downward trend and I feel just very calm (most of the time!) about food and weight. I am still in awe of the difference this drug has made to my life and to my anxiety around food, what to eat, what not to eat, about upcoming events, constantly thinking and planning around what to do and how to cope if I fell 'off the wagon' etc etc. Food just 'is' now, I am not tracking at all and not restricting either. Hopefully I can get to a place of equilibrium now and start to focus more on exercise and feeling strong rather than on the number on the scale.

W2R2 completed this morning even though I’m away with work - feeling good about that although it was still harder than I would have expected 😭

sylv165 · 04/02/2025 21:08

Well done @Midlifecrisisxamillion! I’m falling behind a bit but going to finish week 4 tomorrow and get back on track!

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 06/02/2025 08:38

Week 5 run 2 done. Felt good. It's the big 20 minuter on Saturday. Eeeek. On my first 8 minutes today I felt like I could have gone longer so hopefully I can get to at least 12 even if I can't get the full 20 this week. Will just repeat if I need to.

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 08/02/2025 08:52

Well I only went and flipping did it 😁. 20 minutes running done! Week 5 done!

85reasons · 08/02/2025 09:56

@Midlifecrisisxamillion AMAZING...!!!! You did it! Bet you feel like a proper runner now....

And... you've inspired me to get out of bed and go and do mine. Struggling to get them in, this weather is so depressing.

Wow @Midlifecrisisxamillion and @Cantbesure that is amazing and gives me hope! I’ll be starting week 5 tomorrow and still not confident I’ll manage it, but at least I know it is possible!
