C25K runners - anyone want to join?

Finally hauled myself out of bed this morning to restart C25K, having been wanting to get back into running now that I’ve lost weight on MJ.

Two years ago I was able to run 10K… this morning the three minute runs in week 3 (I’m impatient…) were a real stretch - but it felt so good to be back out there.

I’ve struggled to get consistently into exercise since starting WLI in September but am now about a stone from target and really need to sort it out. I’m hoping getting into regular running will kick start some strength training motivation too.

Amyone else want to join in for mutual support?

I did it but the 5min blocks felt so much harder than 3mins. Week 4 is a definite step up. However, I still haven’t been able to face anything more than my 5 almonds so need to try and force something down before I keel over!

gimmemounjaro · 27/01/2025 14:18

Ooh, can I join?
I started C25K in the autumn but was doing it at half speed, I have two different apps and do the runs from both of them. I've done C25K before and completed it ok but found it quite stressful and always felt intimidated by the next run. Doing it slower makes it much more enjoyable for me as I'm more on top of it and feel more confident

Anyway - got to week 6-7 ish and then got noro, then went away for Christmas. And now it's so bloody cold, I hate running in this weather. Looks like it might be warming up a bit at the weekend so will get back to it then, probably restarting around week 5 I think. I like getting it done first thing, around 6.30am. But only if it's 6° or above and not blowing a gale or chucking it down!

sylv165 · 27/01/2025 15:58

@gimmemounjaro i also hate being cold and wet. But I also hate running when it is too warm. So I am mostly a treadmill runner so I can avoid variations of climate 😂

Oh I start week 4 tomorrow. Hoping I can do 5 minutes. I'm a bit worried.

sylv165 · 27/01/2025 18:38

@Midlifecrisisxamillion there is a definite step up but you can do it. I just reduced my speed for the 5min blocks and I’ll try and build it back up over the week. Good luck with it!

Caffeineneedednow · 27/01/2025 18:48

Woop just wanted to say you can do it.

I tried C25K back in Feb and failed on week 2 due to knee pain.
Started on MJ beginning of October. Started C25K again mid october and finished just after Christmas. Last weekend went out for a ( slow) 8 k run and I can see 10 k in sight.

85reasons · 27/01/2025 19:11

That's the motivation we need right now @Caffeineneedednow ! What fantastic progress you've made - just what I needed to hear.

@sylv165 I think I'm going to have to stay on W3 for a bit. There's no way I'm ready for a 5m run. And I'm still aching from Saturday () plus am commuting tomorrow so can't run till Weds.

@gimmemounjaro - welcome! I have found thread support when doing C25K really helpful in the past - I really really want to get back to park runs!

Amazing @Caffeineneedednow! I would really love to get back into regular running, great to hear you have actually achieved this!

@85reasons I think after walking a half marathon you deserve to take it easy until you recover from that! A repeat of week 3 might be a good idea especially if you have had a longer gap between runs. The one thing I remember from last time is that week 4 is hard, but then week 5 is even harder!!

gimmemounjaro · 27/01/2025 19:46

I think the first 5 minute run is the key to it all really, I felt like I'd broken the back of it at that point 😂

It was the first run where I couldn't see / anticipate the end of it when I started iykwim, you just have to start running and keep going until you're told to stop. It was too far for me to know whereabouts I was in the time. I reckon anyone who can run for 5 minutes can definitely get to 5k.

Aliceisagooddog · 27/01/2025 19:53

Hi all, I would like to join please. I've lost 18 pounds on mj since October and have the running bug again. Saying that, I've never been fast but could run for 1 hour plus. I've done a few runs in the new year and already seeing progress.
Can I ask which apps you use for C25k? I've tried runna but it's a bit basic.

gimmemounjaro · 27/01/2025 20:04

I use these two @Aliceisagooddog and sort of switch between them depending on which one has the least challenging next run. They're slightly different so it's quite nice to mix it up a bit. I have Steve Cram as my coach on the NHS one, like I am an actual runner and not someone staggering around the streets first thing in the morning 😂

Well I did week 4 run 1 today. That jump to 5 minutes is a killer but I did it! I even did it after a 30 minute dog walk.

sylv165 · 28/01/2025 14:13

Well done @Midlifecrisisxamillion! Glad I’m not the only one who found 5mins tough, but we survived!

sylv165 · 28/01/2025 14:16

Is anyone doing anything else alongside running? I have been trying to move a lot more generally, aiming for 12k steps a day. I am also vaguely doing some strength training but it is a bit casual at the moment. I really want to try following a proper program as I remember that being the key for me in building running stamina and preventing injury, as well as changing my body shape. I followed one of the Caroline Girvan kettlebell programs on YouTube ages ago so I might look that up again

Yeah I walk the dog 2-3 times a day. I swim 1-2 times a week, and gym twice a week. Gym or swim is usually only for about 40 minutes each time though.

Thank you. I was quite proud of myself! You should be too.

W4R2 complete- and it wasn’t any easier than the first one 🤣. I’ll see how the final one goes but I am definitely open to repeating it a couple more times before moving on to week 5 as I definitely don’t feel ready to push it much further yet

Have a look at week 5 as to me it didn't look much harder than week 4 - it's 4 that's the jump

It’s W5R3 that scares me - 20 whole minutes!!!!

Oh god, I didn't see that. I assumed the 3 runs always stayed the same within a week. Holy fuck. Now I'm worried too and will definitely need to repeat a week 😂

Thighdentitycrisis · 29/01/2025 19:09

Still here plodding through it again . I think this is my third or fourth time!
Ive just completed wk 3 run 1 and feeling good

Yes it just lulls you into a false sense of security with run 1!

I don't understand why it does such a massive jump and the week after goes back again. It's bizarre.

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 30/01/2025 12:07

I did week 4 run 2 today. The last 5 minutes felt awful.
