C25K runners - anyone want to join?

Finally hauled myself out of bed this morning to restart C25K, having been wanting to get back into running now that I’ve lost weight on MJ.

Two years ago I was able to run 10K… this morning the three minute runs in week 3 (I’m impatient…) were a real stretch - but it felt so good to be back out there.

I’ve struggled to get consistently into exercise since starting WLI in September but am now about a stone from target and really need to sort it out. I’m hoping getting into regular running will kick start some strength training motivation too.

Amyone else want to join in for mutual support?

Hi @SilenceInsidehope you’re enjoying the C25k journey so far!!

I am unbelievably proud of myself (which is rare). I ran a leg of my city marathon a few weeks ago. 7.5k!!! And it was a decent pace and time. I have a 5k coming up soon and would love to be 33 or 32 minutes for it.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 11/05/2025 11:52

That’s amazing @peonym

I’ve just completed run 3 of week 1. It doesn’t feel any easier yet! But I’m proud of myself for doing it.

sylv165 · 11/05/2025 13:28

Yes @peonymthats amazing!!

sylv165 · 13/05/2025 11:49

I’m going for it. First outdoor run since I started. Wish me luck, I think it is going to be sweaty 🥵

peonym · 13/05/2025 18:31

Thanks so much @sylv165its far too hot to run isn’t it? I had to invest in a pair of running shorts despite hating my legs 🤦🏻‍♀️ hope the run went well!

thanks @MummyInTheNecropolis! I almost find the first few weeks the hardest, and then at some stage it all of a sudden is easier without much realisation. So good getting out to do it especially in this weather! You’re doing better than the people sitting on their sofas is what I try to tell myself lol.

I downloaded Strava, I think it might be quite kind with timings so don’t trust it yet but I’m gearing up for a 33 minute 5k which (for me) would be amazing. I’m a beetroot sweaty mess but I’m trying!

MummyInTheNecropolis · 13/05/2025 19:46

Thank you @peonym I’ve just done run 1 of week 2 and it was bloody hard! I must look ridiculous, I run slower than some people walk and I still sweat buckets and get out of breath almost immediately 🤣🤦‍♀️. But like you say, at least I’m doing it! Better than being sat on the sofa eating crisps like I would’ve been a few months ago!

sylv165 · 13/05/2025 20:30

Thanks @peonymi survived! It was only 3.5km but I’m pretty pleased as the first third of the run is constant uphill so quite a tough one. I didn’t stop, didn’t fall over and most importantly didn’t bump into anyone I knew 😂

SilenceInside · 13/05/2025 22:19

Well done to everyone 🏃🏽‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Just done Week 3 Run 1, got through it ok even though I was a little daunted before starting!

Cantbesure · 14/05/2025 18:27

Well done on getting outside @sylv165 new skill unlocked. I did the first run of beyond couch to 5k yesterday with Jo Whiley in my ear. I did not ‘pick up pace’ for the last 5 mins like she told me too though! 😂

beguilingeyes · 15/05/2025 06:14

Jo Whitley is absolutely the best coach.

sylv165 · 15/05/2025 08:08

@Cantbesure whats the beyond couch to 5k programme like? Would you recommend?

Cantbesure · 15/05/2025 08:24

sylv165 · 15/05/2025 08:08

@Cantbesure whats the beyond couch to 5k programme like? Would you recommend?

I would definitely have stopped before 35 minutes, so yes I found it helpful to have Jo in my ear keeping me going. There are 3 runs - stepping stone, speed and stamina. I did the stepping stone run which is 35 mins. 10 mins at 80%, 20 mins at normal pace and 5 mins at pace. I didn’t really pick up pace for the last 5 mins but I kept going. I ran 5.4k in the 35 mins and would def have stopped at 5k or earlier without the programme.

Speed is interval training. And stamina is locked until you have done the first 2 runs, but it looks like it’s 40 mins.

I’ve signed up for a 10K in August so I need to keep going and building on my distance.

SilenceInside · 25/05/2025 17:36

Just finished week 4, and have done something I’ve never done before - I went to the gym in the hotel I’m staying in on holiday in order to fit the run in. Thankfully it was very empty and I could figure out how to work the treadmill.

sylv165 · 26/05/2025 11:35

Well done @SilenceInside, exercising on holiday is true dedication!!

MummyInTheNecropolis · 27/05/2025 20:52

Well done @SilenceInside! I started week 4 today, these 5 min runs are tough! I’m still amazed I managed it.

SilenceInside · 27/05/2025 20:55

Thanks @MummyInTheNecropolis and @sylv165 I found the 5 mins tough too at first but got there. I think it’s mostly psychological for me, as it feels quite far out of my comfort zone.

I’m a little daunted by the week 5 runs, especially run 2 and 3. I really don’t know if I can run for 20 minutes straight!

gimmemounjaro · 28/05/2025 06:53

Hi, I joined in the winter when I wasn’t running (hate running in the cold) - back on the C25K now. I did 20R-3W-5R yesterday and have 25mins running to come tomorrow. The first 5 mins is always awful butt after that I kind of enjoy it!
What does everyone listen to while running, if anything?

peonym · 29/05/2025 07:43

Hi everyone! sorry I’ve had a busy few weeks. I’ve just downloaded the Runna app, has anyone else tried? I’ve started run 1 of the 10k plan (lord help me) with the possible aim of doing one at the end of summer. Think I might have lost the plot but we shall see. How is everyone doing? I’m glad the weather turned where I am as it was truly getting far too hot for running lol.

Cantbesure · 07/06/2025 21:09

Well done @peonym I have signed up for a 10K in August. I joined a new running club this week and surprised myself by managing 7k. I couldn’t have done that by myself.

SilenceInside · 08/06/2025 23:20

Very impressed with the 10k preparations, @peonymand @Cantbesure! Doing 7k is amazing!

@gimmemounjaro I listen to rock, heavy metal, grunge… it helps! Need something loud and shouty with good rhythm to pound away to.

I’ve managed Week 6 Run 3 today, running for 25 mins. I was dreading it, but somehow it was so much more straightforward than I thought. Hope everyone else is getting on ok!

kkr168 · 09/06/2025 09:40

Has anyone found their appetite has increased with running?
I am on 15mg of Mounjaro, currently training for a 10k that I'm doing on the 21st June.
I'm following Nike run clubs 10k plan, running 5 times a week, 3 easy/recovery runs, 1 intervals & 1 long run but I'm so hungry!!
I have gained & lost the same 3lbs over & over this past month, I am so close to my target weight having lost 5st 3lb, I only have 7lbs to go.
I was hoping to start tapering down but with how hungry I am I don't think that's an option at the moment.

gimmemounjaro · 09/06/2025 10:16

Week 8/1 done this morning, I’m aiming for 2x week 8 (28 mins), 2x week 9 (30 mins), 1x 35 mins and then park run a week on Saturday 😬

sylv165 · 09/06/2025 13:21

Yes @kkr168I find a definitely have a bigger appetite the more exercise I do. It is something I’m finding tricky at the moment actually. I’m very close to my goal weight, BMI currently just within the healthy range, but weight loss is now extremely slow. I had stalled for the best part of a month so I have increased my dose to try and get things moving. This has worked from a weight loss perspective but suppression has been strong so I am really struggling to properly fuel myself for exercise and it is all becoming a bit half-hearted! It is very hard to find the middle ground. I’d like to lose another 7lbs, then hoping that it will be easier to increase my exercise levels back up once I’m in maintenance

Cantbesure · 09/06/2025 15:47

That sounds like an intense plan @kkr168. Are you aiming for a speedy tone? I do think running can make you hungry. Are you fuelled for you run and do you have high protein, low cal speedy food to eat if you are hungry after the run? I have peanut butter on toast, boiled eggs, Quorn cocktail sausages, mini light babybels etc.

kkr168 · 09/06/2025 19:41

@Cantbesure Not aiming for a speedy time, I've only done a 10k once before & did that in 1:17 so would like to beat that.
I run 1st thing on an empty stomach, this is what I've found works best for me. I could probably do with increasing my protein intake but overall eat quite healthily now & having 'normal' sized portions. I'm just picking a lot more since upping my exercise!!
I don't particularly enjoy distances over 5k so once I've completed this one I'll be dropping down to 3 runs a week, 5k maximum.
