C25K runners - anyone want to join?

Finally hauled myself out of bed this morning to restart C25K, having been wanting to get back into running now that I’ve lost weight on MJ.

Two years ago I was able to run 10K… this morning the three minute runs in week 3 (I’m impatient…) were a real stretch - but it felt so good to be back out there.

I’ve struggled to get consistently into exercise since starting WLI in September but am now about a stone from target and really need to sort it out. I’m hoping getting into regular running will kick start some strength training motivation too.

Amyone else want to join in for mutual support?

I went out today and did 6.5km with my DD. We went at my plodding speed😂. She is home for a week so hopefully will keep me going. I am trying to build up to 10km. I am aiming for a 7km run on Tuesday but that will be weather dependent as though I don’t mind the cold I hate running in the rain.

WoolerOwl · 21/12/2025 16:24

I am planning on trying my first 6km this week. Never thought I’d get to 5 so hard to imagine going beyond. I will try to follow your example.

WoolerOwl · 23/12/2025 10:55

5km done this morning. All running except for a little fast walk up the steep section of the hill.

6km planned for later this week.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 23/12/2025 22:38

I did 6.5km this afternoon with my daughter. Not sure if it made up for the two mince pies I munched today but I feel that I earnt them.

It’s amazing I couldn’t run this time last year and I had lost my first stone and a half on MJ. This December I can run (or jog) having lost almost another 4 and a half stone.

WoolerOwl · 24/12/2025 08:04

That’s fantastic. I was reflecting similarly. Last Christmas I was in the worst shape of my life. Exhausted by stressful work and with no time to look after myself. Now, I’m a pound off six stones lost and planning my first 6km run route. Mumsnet has really helped me find a community of people where I can think about what I need to do to care for myself and encouragement, support, and fun while I do that. Happy Christmas!

WoolerOwl · 26/12/2025 20:08

6km done today!

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 30/12/2025 12:38

Last run of the year! Ran to shop to pickup Vinted purchase whic was a lightweight running jacket 😂. Added a loop onto the run and Strava said 7km - thank you very much 💪🏻.

New year resolution is to reach 10km.

WoolerOwl · 10/01/2026 13:28

Finally got out today for a short run, and did a weights session, after a week off with a cold. Still going! I want to feel the benefits and be able to run 10k by Easter.

sylv165 · 10/01/2026 23:56

Haven’t been in this thread for so long, good to see it is still going. I’ve had a break from running for a few months due to laziness life being busy. But back on the wagon now and surprised myself by running on the treadmill for 4k without stopping. I even repeated that a couple of times this week to prove it wasn’t a fluke. Really thought I would have to go back to the early days of couch25k and build back up so very pleased with that as a starting point!

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 11/01/2026 10:41

I am aiming for an Easter 10km as well @WoolerOwl I have had the horrible cough cold thing as well so haven’t been as active since New Year Day but did 6km comfortably Friday and just off to do 6.5km before the rain sets in and whilst DH sorts out lunch.

Having completed c25k last November @sylv165 I am nervous about not running for a long period of time. I do actually enjoy it and want to keep it up as long as possible. I can’t believe how much I moaned about being exhausted from running in the first few weeks of my c25k course 😂

WoolerOwl · 11/01/2026 15:01

Let's keep each other going! I find it so hard to get out there, but the minute I am bouncing down the street, I think "why did you not do this sooner; it feels great?!" So, I just need to keep hold of that feeling. 10k, here we come.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 11/01/2026 18:32

Great idea @WoolerOwl I have now entered a 10k for Saturday 28th March.so I need to build up from 7km I ended up doing today as I added a loop and build up a bit of speed.

I find running so much easier than going to a gym. When I am out plodding along I do enjoy it. Gyms take planning whereas with a run I can start when I close the front door.

WoolerOwl · 11/01/2026 19:42

Yes, I understand that feeling. With peaceful headspace, and not going too fast, I feel like I could keep going quite far and even enjoy it. I'm going to see if I can increase my 6k to 7k this week. The Nike Run programme also wants me to do a speed intervals run, which I don't enjoy (no podcast possible as I need to listen to the annoying instructions!) but I know is good for me. I will report back when I have done both.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 11/01/2026 20:10

I haven’t posted on here for ages but I’m still running at least twice a week, usually 3 times including parkrun on a Saturday. I’m very impressed with all of you going for 10k, I’ve decided 5k is fine for me, I’m happy doing that for now, not aiming for any more, at least not yet. I may reconsider in the spring/summer.

I also much prefer running to the gym, I love being outside and love the ease of it in terms of not needing anything other than a pair of trainers and being able to go whenever I feel like it.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 13/01/2026 22:19

6.5 km in spite of the rain today so that will count as my shorter run this week, my trainers were getting wet with all the puddles. Planning a longer one 7.5k on Thursday. Apparently you are not meant to increase your distance by more than 10% a week. I still use the c25k app for the warm stretches. Tomorrow is a rest recovery day.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 17/01/2026 20:36

So achieved 7.5km this afternoon. It’s still amazing that I can run for any length of time let alone in broad daylight. When I started C25K I would only go out in the dark as I felt embarrassed until my DD pointed out that size wise I was ok to run outside in daylight hours and that I wouldn’t scare small children and animals.

I have picked up some good running stuff recently on Vinted.

WoolerOwl · 18/01/2026 21:29

Well done. My running stuff is from Vinted too, but I also got a sleeveless top from Tu this afternoon. And I have my eye on some tomato coloured leggings from Primark. It’s a fun motivation!

I’ve noticed that the Nike Run Club schedule takes a big leap from 6k last week to 8k this week. I’ve just done the recovery run and the fartlek intervals and am considering putting in an additional 7k before doing 8k. It’s quite far: I’ll need to find a new route!

Victory of the week though was doing the shortish recovery run round the park and Not Stopping on the horrible uphill at the end.

HappyWineDay · 12/02/2026 13:43

Not many posts for a while, how is everyone getting on?

I've now done 6 or 7 park runs and really enjoyed them. I've decided I will enter a 10k at some point, so have started a training plan that I can access via my Garmin account which I got access to when I bought a Garmin watch. I find it really motivation, with different types of run - speed intervals, hill repeats and also a long run once a week done at a slow pace. It actually told me to do an easy-pace 12k run last weekend which I managed (slowly!). That's the furthest I've ever run in my life.

It's been amazing when I think back to struggling to do those 5 minute jog sections in the early days of C25K. I'd like to think I can maintain this new-found fitness long term and continue to enjoy running.

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 12/02/2026 14:14

I can’t run to music but I listen to podcasts. My long run this week was 9km. I have bothered with recent park runs as they have been too wet, muddy and busy.

I am the proud owner of a second pair of running shoes shoes. Given all the rain, puddles and mud it made sense to get a second pair but I don’t want to get them dirty just yet 😂. At the running club I joined they all seem to have multiple pairs for road, trail, track, races, distances, spikes etc

I am using the Runna app for my 10k buildup and have entered two 10k events for spring/early summer. Then I am considering a 10 mile event in the autumn depending upon how 10k goes - realistically I think 10k will be my ‘happy’ distance.

Your post made me laugh because I just bought two new pairs of running shoes, and I too haven't been out in either yet to avoid getting them mucked up! Recent parkruns have been filthy. Brilliant that you've entered two 10Ks, I must do the same.
My DS uses Runna and says it's fantastic. He's currently in training for a marathon in the summer (I doubt I could ride a bike that far, let alone run!)

TheSlimmingPumpkin · 13/02/2026 12:40

Just posted this for the November 24 gang but for those who listen to a podcast as opposed to music our favourite obesity doc - Giles Yeo - has a new podcast which I listened to during my run this morning. Downloaded from BBC Sounds Radio 4 all the episodes before I left and off I went 🏃‍♀️. Goes through the history of GLP through to what the future might be, so not necessarily about the process of taking them but an interesting listen. It’s called The Hunger Games.

My Runna plan says I have an easy week next week 😁

WoolerOwl · 14/02/2026 07:59

Thanks for the podcast recommendation.

I haven’t run at all this week as have been away with work. But I did walk miles instead. And stayed the same weight, despite lots of lovely Italian food.

I need to get out there this morning. Back to it!
