C25K runners - anyone want to join?

Finally hauled myself out of bed this morning to restart C25K, having been wanting to get back into running now that I’ve lost weight on MJ.

Two years ago I was able to run 10K… this morning the three minute runs in week 3 (I’m impatient…) were a real stretch - but it felt so good to be back out there.

I’ve struggled to get consistently into exercise since starting WLI in September but am now about a stone from target and really need to sort it out. I’m hoping getting into regular running will kick start some strength training motivation too.

Amyone else want to join in for mutual support?

I've been doing this since the end of October, but keep having set-backs. I was about a week away from finishing it two weeks ago, but haven't been able to do anything since due to having one of these nasty viruses. Now panicking about how many sessions I'll have to go back and redo.

Will be doing the 5k to 10K runner next. IF I EVER FINISH THIS ONE.

85reasons · 20/01/2025 22:03

Gah, sorry you've been struck down with the lurgey - it's so frustrating when you have to stop for a bit.

I can't wait until I'm able to do park runs again - found those really motivating... although after today's performance it'll clearly be a while till I can run 5k.

Next run for me will be Weds morning. When do you think you'll try for the next run?

Hi @85reasons! I am at the same point as you - W3R2 tomorrow. Like you, I used to run a lot and got up to half marathon distance - although this was more like 10 years ago, not 2, and I also weighed around 7.5 stone at the time! But since having kids life has got in the way and I have just let my fitness trail away to nothing. I have tried many, many times to get back to it, but each time I am heavier than the last and it just always feels to hard.

I’m really enjoying it this time round though, hoping I can finally complete all 9 weeks and establish a good routine again 🤞

1clavdivs · 21/01/2025 07:33

@85reasons I just don't know when I'll be able to go again. Every day I tell myself I can go tomorrow, but then I wake up still feeling awful with a tight chest and this horrible cough. I'm gutted.

85reasons · 21/01/2025 07:44

You'll get back to it @1clavdivs - it's just a temporary setback and you'll know when you feel ready. One thing that feels very different with MJ and this whole "I'm on a health kick" thing is that I don't feel as though the whole house of cards can collapse at any minute - illness causing me to stop exercise and eating the "wrong things" - leading to weight gain - thinking "fuck it " - eating more crap - more weight gain - back on the merry go round we go...

@sylv165 👋🏻 haiiii - yes I've been a bit stupid going straight to W3 and it may bite me on the bum in a couple of weeks when I can't do the 20 minuter. Half marathon - amazing - are you tempted yet to sign up to any races in the summer..? I might sign up to a 10K once I've reached the 5k barrier as an incentive but need to see how it all goes.

Feeling okay this morning, thankfully no aches - and just so pleased to have finally got the first run out of the way.

Glad you are not too sore today @85reasons!

I haven’t even heard thought as far as entering races. It is something I didn’t think I’d ever be able to do again, but it does feel possibly achievable now. I’ll see if I can make it to 5k first and then consider!

sylv165 · 21/01/2025 13:15

W3R3 done. I’m quite proud of this one. I felt a bit sick from my jab yesterday, my period has just started and I’m really busy at work. So I had all my excuses lined up, but rather than skipping it I told myself I would do it anyway and just take it easy. And I made it!

85reasons · 21/01/2025 20:10

Well done @sylv165 - a few of those under your belt and you'll have it down as a solid habit.

I find it so encouraging knowing I'm meant to be updating on a thread with whether I've done it or not too 😁

I'm achier than I thought this morning - and also had a weird day where I came home from work at lunchtime as I was feeling so weird and nauseous. Think it must be the MJ but I injected on Friday and I'm 3 weeks into a 10mg dose.

I'm back in the office tomorrow so think I'll do my next run on Thursday. I'm walking a half marathon on Saturday so might leave the following run till Monday.

Oh helloooo

I started (C25K) just before Christmas and just did Week 5 run 1. I can't run outdoors due to foot instability so am running (very slowly) on a walking pad.

sylv165 · 22/01/2025 06:09

@SevernWonders i am also running on a treadmill, not due to foot instability but due to Lycra that is still too small and almost see through 😳🤣. If I make it to week 5 or 6 I will invest in some new sports clothing as I do find it much more enjoyable to do the longer stretches outside.

How are you managing to fuel properly for exercise? As well as c25k I am also aiming to walk 12k steps a day, and the days I’m not running I’m doing some sort of strength training. I do find myself feeling hungrier as a result. I have always been on a fairly low dose of MJ (3.75mg) and my first thought was that it is time to go up - but suppression tends to be strong so I’m worried that then I won’t be able to eat at all. Maybe it is just a case of teaching myself to respond to the hunger with healthy, protein based food.

SevernWonders · 22/01/2025 07:20

I'd say you're spot on Sylv, protein is the way to go.

I've been on Mj for 7 months now and only just gone to 6.25 (I know it's not an official dose but I've had good suppression so far on a lower dose so I'm just doing what works for me). I do find the 'run' days I actually don't feel hungry for the first hour after, I wondered if that's MJ regulating my blood sugar? But after that I'm starving!

sylv165 · 22/01/2025 10:09

Interestingly @SevernWonders, exercise apparently does suppress your appetite for a while afterwards. But the hunger definitely kicks in after a while! I’m away with work for a couple of days now so won’t be running but will be trying to get as many steps in as possible

Cantbesure · 22/01/2025 10:16

I've gone back to week 6 after completing couch to 5k twice last year! Happy to have online buddies for accountability.

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 23/01/2025 00:34

I'm doing week 3 run 2 in the morning. It's feeling ok so far but I don't cope well with uphills. I'm assuming it's just the weight and it'll get easier as I get lighter. No stiffness or anything afterwards but I swim, gym and walk miles in a week too so base fitness probably reasonable for my weight.

85reasons · 23/01/2025 07:45

Im doing W3 R2 today @Midlifecrisisxamillion - can only squeeze it in at lunchtime so just need to make sure I do go out and do it!

Well done. I did W3 R2 this morning. It was ok apart from the last tiny bit as I ended on a hill and it just about killed me. Too many hills near me.

beguilingeyes · 23/01/2025 10:16

I was doing so well last year...completed C25K and was running Parkruns and then got the chest infection that won't die...so I'm starting from scratch. Just done W1R1 again.

Well done for getting back into it. Some of that muscle memory will still be there so you will hopefully get back into it pretty quickly.

85reasons · 23/01/2025 15:01

I'm ill again today - there will be no run - have been feeling ropey with suspected MJ side effects since Tuesday . Hoping to get a run in tomorrow!

Midlifecrisisxamillion · 26/01/2025 10:25

I did week 3 run 3 today so I start week 4 on Tuesday. I did it on the gym treadmill though today (normally do outside) so I could do a little stuff in the gym too.

85reasons · 26/01/2025 10:43

I’m dropping behind - but after walking a half marathon yesterday I feel like I’ve done something at least! Aching a lot more than I like this morning.

That's amazing. Well done!

Thighdentitycrisis · 26/01/2025 11:50

I’ve also restarted and am on did w2 r2 on Friday. Going swimming 50 -60 lengths on in between days. I’ve completed it twice before, but I never get faster. before Covid completed 10k very very slowly. Hoping to lose a few pounds and get a bit fitter.

1clavdivs · 26/01/2025 11:51

@85reasons you are quite right about that; usually I would take two or three weeks off and never go back, but lo and behold I was back to it yesterday evening. The added bonus is that the New Years Resolution people seem to have given up meaning there are lots of available treadmills again.

I wasn't sure how to get back into it, and I still have the tail-ends of this virus hanging around, so as I've not done it now for two weeks I decided to go back two weeks on the schedule. This means I'm back to Week 5. I've been doing this since October and had so many set backs, so it's pretty gutting, but one can only keep (literally) plodding away. I'll get there in the end.

sylv165 · 27/01/2025 12:19

Currently say contemplating W4R1. I think I have made a bit of an error in judgement as I went up to 5mg yesterday from 3.75 (I am a MJ lightweight!). No side effects so far, but I have zero desire for food. I’d not eaten anything today so just had 5 almonds to give me some sustenance to get through the run, but now I honestly feel like I’ve eaten a roast dinner! Here goes nothing - not sure how this is going to go but I will report back 😬
