Fantastic we made it to thread 2!

This is a thread for all those who have started or are about to start the Shemed programme in January.

Those waiting for blood tests /first pens hope you hear soon!
Those on their first/second jab hope it's going well - do come and tell us how it's going.

This is designed as a supportive space to share with each other how it's going, worries, side effects as well celebrating wins and results :)

I've just gone for it! My parcel was delivered today and I weighed in and jabbed this evening. Going forward I think I will weigh in first thing then jab in the evening before bed! Here's hoping for a restful sleep and waking up 6 stone lighter Grin

Can I just double check with those who have had diarrhea....
Have you been taking the immodium / loperimide as directed?

2 capsules at the first bout then 1 capsule after every following bout until it stops?

I only ask this because I have known plenty of people who don't take the correct dosage and then say it doesn't work ( DH and D son in law I'm looking at you 🙈)

If you all have been it will help me to decide whether to risk it during the work week or not .

I took 2 initial capsules and then for the first couple of times, just a single capsule, and then 2 capsules each time for 4 doses in 24 hours.. I can honestly say it had zero effect. Every 1-2 hours for 36 hours, it was exhausting and really unpleasant.

I was a nurse for 23 years and have given patients higher doses in the past which is why I personally felt I could take 2 capsules rather than 1. Though I was shocked that it didn't have any effect. But, once 36 hours had passed, it just stopped.

OneAzureMaker · 22/01/2025 21:41

@Newshoesnewname I would also add that the diarrhoea didn't start until W2 D5 which rather took my by surprise!

Yeah I was planning to do it tonight but I never weigh myself at night (cant bare to see the extra pounds 🫣) so decided morning was better for me. Thursday feels like a strange day to start but I suppose it's a good as any other day haha!

Crikey 😱

I think I will wait then

Does anyone think it would be ok to jab on a Thursday night and then check in on the Friday morning? Or is that pushing it?

I can only check in on a Friday morning as it's the only day I'm on my own, but if I jab Thursday night I have until Monday morning for any side effects.

Has anyone received their refill very early ? I keep my current MJ out of the fridge as don’t need one of the 5 kids finding it . Email to say 5mg is being sent tomorrow.
i still have dose 4 to go in 5 days time. Will have to hid it in a bag of spinach or something 🙈

mentioning incase helpful to others, I may not do the refill questionnaire as promptly next time.

Im a pretty silent group member but finding the posts very helpful and supportive

Hello all, I'm a long time lurker on mumsnet (14years +) but never really posted.

I've decided to take the plunge and have signed up to Shemed and this group has been very helpful.
My blood test is out for delivery tomorrow but I can't find anywhere how long you have to fast for. Is it 8 hours?

Thanks,

Thank you, that's helpful. I'm going away for the week which includes the first jab of the next pen so was wondering if I'd be able to get it in time!!

Is this your first 5mg pen?

Thanks,

It says 6hrs, but in reality it said on my sample it was a non-fasting blood test, though I think by the time I took it I'd been fasting 16 hours - it took ages to log on with the post Christmas rush!

I don't think I can do 16hrs!! I'll stick with 8 and see how it goes.

Thanks,

@Icemi123 you don't have to fast at all. I think initially they said to do it but current advice is no fasting necessary. But you should have a couple of glasses of water before the test to help the blood flow better.

Yes first 5mg. The refill questionnaire came through straight after I logged my injection this morning (I checked in yesterday but there was an app glitch so it hadn’t registered, then later on got an email telling me to log injection which I already had ☺️)

Shmallow · 23/01/2025 00:09

@OneAzureMaker half term week? Was wondering the same I gathered they'd have to send it in good time to meet their own conditions but wasn't entirely sure

PurpleClare50 · 23/01/2025 05:36

Ooooo the app on my phone has had an update I think. Well unless I've never noticed before.
At the bottom is an icon saying discover which takes you to some of the blog posts that were in that weird email about goal posting and worry trees.
The iPad app hasn't updated yet though.

No, the first week of February for me.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 23/01/2025 07:54

Hi all just catching up with thread.

I am W1 day4.
Generally going well & made great food choices.
Some fatigue is issue & occasional headache but think they improve when I eat.

Curious, are side effects generally worse second week?

Shmallow · 23/01/2025 08:14

hope not @Reginaphalangeeeee, I've just re-jabbed! 2 jabs down, 50 to go 😆 Though I did also sink quite a bit of wine last night with a friend which I'm expecting to cause an issue at some point! I very rarely drink anymore, so generally won't while I'm jabbing, but it was an overdue catch-up.

Reginaphalangeeeee · 23/01/2025 08:59

Good luck for today @Shmallow
Hope effects minimal from the wine.
How was the weigh in?

I think I could become/am already addicted to the lack of appetite feeling from this injection. It's actually amazing to have this level of control. I have in recent years just given in to it and it's so empowering to have easy control and healthy choices made easy.
I don't ever want to go back

Mine were, and not until day 4/5 of week 2 which really took me by surprise..

That's how I feel now, even with the side effects, it's such a release to be "normal". It makes so much sense now why we struggled to do things others seemed to be able to do like "well just leave it if you're full/ don't eat if you're not hungry/" etc

And all the judgement from people about lack of self control etc when actually our bodies were crying out to eat

I think I'm going to do a morning check in tomorrow and jab later now I've realised you can. And then have a regular morning weight to compare. I'm aware this will make it look like I've lost an extra couple of pounds just going from afternoon to morning though!!!

(randomly this morning I weighed before, ore/after loo visit and breakfast and clothing and there's so much variation!! It really is just a guide.)

SeaStoat · 23/01/2025 10:13

I woke up with a dry mouth for the second morning running. I'd drunk some water before bed so I know things are happening.

I'm not hungry for breakfast, I didn't break fast until 1.30pm yesterday. Normally I'd have been very hungry. Yesterday, 2 scrambled eggs was more than enough. I've had a glass of electrolytes this an as I am prone to headaches when eating less.

So W1D3 - and I feel the great shedding is underway!

CleverKhakiBear · 23/01/2025 10:20

Morning all, lovely to see so many more people joining this lovely community! Good luck to those waiting for results & approval.

I am on W1D5 I believe and I feel good, no major symptoms although d2 I was lightheaded in the evening and then got diarrhoea all through the night. Other than that day it's been going well.

I had a cheeky weigh in this morning and I can definitely say mj is working I have a 6.8lb loss and I'm mega proud of myself, can't wait for my next jab on Saturday 🥰

Shmallow · 23/01/2025 10:27

Thanks @Reginaphalangeeeee all good so far! Good weigh in, 7lbs! it read as 10 a couple of days ago but I had more clothes on today and was up until after midnight so I highly suspect the dinner and wine was still in there!

Mazd323 · 23/01/2025 10:34

I'm on a few Facebook groups where some people are already moving on to their 2nd pen. I was hoping if the 2.5mg was working for me I'd be able to stay on it for longer. Somebody had just confirmed they have to go up to the 5mg or they'll be taken off the programme. This is not what I was told when I asked the question before joining and is very disappointing.

kittykarate · 23/01/2025 10:46

I've just ordered my second pen, and I was allowed to stay at 2.5mg as I discussed my logic with them on the form

  • I have mild, side effects (coldness, nausea, fart roulette feelings)
  • I'm going on an active holiday abroad during the time period of pen #2
  • I don't want to ruin my holiday if side effects increase - there's no way I want to be doing skiing and wondering if my lunch is going to fall out of my bum!

Anyway, the response was that 2.5 was a below maintenance dose, and so they cannot prescribe it long term, but they understand my worries . So, 5mg is where I have to go on pen #3.
