Fantastic we made it to thread 2!

This is a thread for all those who have started or are about to start the Shemed programme in January.

Those waiting for blood tests /first pens hope you hear soon!
Those on their first/second jab hope it's going well - do come and tell us how it's going.

I'm on a few Facebook groups where some people are already moving on to their 2nd pen. I was hoping if the 2.5mg was working for me I'd be able to stay on it for longer. Somebody had just confirmed they have to go up to the 5mg or they'll be taken off the programme. This is not what I was told when I asked the question before joining and is very disappointing.

I am sure the programme said it's up to us and how we feel we are getting on with the medication. SheMed have their own official fb group so might be best to ask on there, perhaps it depends on how the 2.5 works for an individual.

Very disappointing if we have to move up a dose as I was also hoping to stay on 2.5 for another month

CleverKhakiBear · 23/01/2025 11:00

kittykarate · 23/01/2025 10:46

I've just ordered my second pen, and I was allowed to stay at 2.5mg as I discussed my logic with them on the form

  • I have mild, side effects (coldness, nausea, fart roulette feelings)
  • I'm going on an active holiday abroad during the time period of pen #2
  • I don't want to ruin my holiday if side effects increase - there's no way I want to be doing skiing and wondering if my lunch is going to fall out of my bum!

Anyway, the response was that 2.5 was a below maintenance dose, and so they cannot prescribe it long term, but they understand my worries . So, 5mg is where I have to go on pen #3.

Thank you for clearing it up lovely xx

Hello all, I'm a long time lurker on mumsnet (14years +) but never really posted.

I've decided to take the plunge and have signed up to Shemed and this group has been very helpful.
My blood test is out for delivery tomorrow but I can't find anywhere how long you have to fast for. Is it 8 hours?

Thanks,

Hey
You dont need to fast anymore and you can do it at any time of the week as they're 24/7. There is an update on their FAQs on website :)

kittykarate · 23/01/2025 11:07

It's also a bit weird that effectively it's from dose 3 onwards when your next pen is available to order, and you say if you are ready to move up. From the tone of the message I got, I think they would be more amenable to you sticking on 5 for longer, as that is classed as a maintenance dose, and the one that came out as giving results to the majority in the studies.

If they do force you up a dose, you could just do what some people with other suppliers do, just not turn the twiddler all the way out to the number 1. There are some guides on how many 'clicks' you turn to get to different dosages as some don't want to jump from 2.5 to 5, so do a few weeks on a manually selected 3.75 . Obviously don't tell shemed as they'll not be amused and you will have a lot of wastage in the pen at the end of the month.

Humptyandhambel · 23/01/2025 11:10

The last thread gave me the confidence to take the plunge and sign up. I got my blood results yesterday morning and have just received confirmation I’ve been accepted. Super excited to join you all 😁

Hey all,
First time poster, Mum of 2. Officially obese at 17st2. Loves a dog walk but also loves a lot of cake! Hence why I’m in this situation, I Like to snack even I’m not hungry! I’m an emotional eater.

jumping on after reading about Shemed, and been wanting to go on a mounjaro journey for at least 6 months but think I felt scared not seeing a doctor. I like how blood tests are taken so in case anything underlying. Literally just took my bloods and off to post them now. Hopefully hear back soon and everything is ok.
My only concern I really want mounjaro. But have any of you been prescribed weygovy?

look forward to see how your all doing!

Mieliwood · 23/01/2025 12:26

Just done my first check in and injection. Did anyone else struggle with the volume. My phone volume was on full but could barely hear her

I haven't seen anyone be prescribed wegovy. I am sure I read that wegovy will be prescribed if mounjarno doesn't agree with you

It's a bit inconsistent on the volume of the call - on android its the 'music' volume rather than the 'call' volume setting that seems to make the difference. The only way I get good volume is turn it up really loud while it does the bleeping sound check before connection. Once I've done that I've been able to hear them ok. If I try and turn them up while I'm connected to them, it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Thanks for that, I'll make sure I turn it up before I connect next week :)

I know of one person who has been prescribed wegovy....she had previously had a bad reaction to mounjaro. The default option seems to be mounjaro.

I found that the first time too, it's a common complaint apparently.

What did your first check-in consist of? Do you have to weigh again?

It was really quick. Confirm name and dob. Jump on scales, confirm you've got the correct pen and then asked if needed walking through injection process which I didn't need to do - I've done my husbands insulin for years and the instructions in the box are easy enough to follow

Thanks @kittykarate @CleverKhakiBear and @Mazd323 for this insight.

I am only week 1 but delighted with 2.5.
If I could stay like this and keep having the same response I would be happy for life on it.

Also thinking 2.5 to 5 is a big jump!
At the end of the month does the prescription automatically change to 5mg or do they consult you?
Will the same happen month 3 or is there a timeframe before onto 7.5mg?

If auto jump... I think I would at least do week 5 and 6 and 3.75 (3/4 does) to minimise side effects and build up to 5mg. Ofcourse they won't know. It's the same cost.... it's only us that deals with side effects.
I think I would do this to lessen the blow for each prescription up as logical titration.

BruhWhy · 23/01/2025 13:51

I've decided to jab today instead of tomorrow because reflecting on it, Fridays the busiest day of the week for me and I'm not alone for five minutes until 8pm. I have every Thursday free. So just going to cross my fingers and hope for no side-effects or tomorrow will be interesting...

It was completely painless, I don't know why I'd worked myself up. Now i feel sick which probably has absolutely nothing to do with mounjaro and everything to do with my nerves 🫣

Earthgirl3971 · 23/01/2025 14:00

My box arrived at 11am like I thought it would. Such reliable postie here.

I had a light snack then injected the first dose. Felt lightheaded when the needle went in but otherwise painless.

Thursday is a great day for me to check in I've realised. Enough mid week enough to still have a weekend if things go very wrong! 😆

My partner has been laughing when I've explained whats in the care package.. they literally are preparing you to shit yourself, he's said. 😂

Righto, good luck to everyone waiting for blood results or kits to arrive. I'll keep you posted on any side effects for me.

I'm going to have a plain chicken sandwich for lunch with peppers as a side, maybe a light style crisps or will I regret that?!

xxCatCrazyxx · 23/01/2025 14:45

Second jab done today, 2lb loss on weigh in which I’m more than happy with. I’ve got 4 stone to lose to goal weight so nice and steady will be perfect for me!

Only mild side effects so far which has been a relief. I have got more hungry as the week went on, although I haven’t been wanting to eat rubbish or binge, so I will definitely take that! I expect I will be ready to move up to 5mg after third wk questionnaire if things stay the same.

Well done all losers and new jabbers!

Fofftwenty21 · 23/01/2025 14:46

Hi @ZippyNewt I'm about the same weight as you. I've been approved and now waiting for my 1st prescription.

Thanks for sharing @Earthgirl3971 really good to hear about your first jab. Fingers crossed no side effects.

Shmallow · 23/01/2025 15:10

I'm honestly happy for them to dictate what dose I'm on, it's one of the reasons I signed up because I don't want to have to scrabble around working out magic 5th doses or gaming the clicks. If there are awful side effects they will address that by changing doses or letting you go, from what I've read.

I've just done mine too, didn't feel the needle at all, was surprised by how long you inject for but other than that really straight forward.

Yay my pen buddy! I was hoping you'd do yours today so we'd be on the same schedule.

What did you have for your lunch?

This is what I'm worried about getting wrong. I'm planning to go into work for lunch with friends tomorrow so want to get something on the menu that won't upset my stomach. I won't be drinking anyway as i need to drive so that's taken care of.

Have you bought any nice herbal teas to help with digestion?

Nope.!

Just looked at what we have for dinner too so I won't be skinny at this rate lol.

It's my turn to grab the shopping this week so some healthy options will be incoming!.

What are you eating? X

You can hold my virtual hand. We'll be ok won't we. Feel fine so far.

I'm now very concerned I didn't do the injection correctly. No side effects just a little tummy discomfort like I've drunk too much caffeine and not feeling any hunger suppression particularly. Beginning to think I will be the one it won't work for 🫣
