FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/01/2025 10:00

Fantastic we made it to thread 2!

This is a thread for all those who have started or are about to start the Shemed programme in January.

Those waiting for blood tests /first pens hope you hear soon!
Those on their first/second jab hope it's going well - do come and tell us how it's going.

This is designed as a supportive space to share with each other how it's going, worries, side effects as well celebrating wins and results :)

Thanks @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden feeling pleased to have started though if I’m honest I’m sat here waiting for something dramatic to happen- not sure what I thought would happen. I feel like I’m waiting to be overcome with horrendous side effects as of 1 hour ago or watch the weight fall off! Of course I know neither will happen like that but I’d been building it up in my head so much that it’s a bit of an anticlimax if I’m honest 😂

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/02/2025 14:36

Yay everyone for all the weightless. 🎉🎉.

@Lostatsea10 yay for first jab!!

@Mieliwood
my 2nd pen came the day after I did the questionnaire but it was last week and I think I've heard it's taking longer now. I think it's good it's triggered after the questionnaire as that gives a 2 week window it can arrive in

Yay to @Mieliwood and to @ForPeachSake @bluesmartie83 and @Bear2014 for getting to the "next pen ordering" stage. To me these are all milestones on our journey and we're in a different place to where we were when contemplating starting!

@RachCmomma yes! Is it your first jab I've lost track. I was absolutely exhausted to the extend I needed to lie down for the first 4 days ish of jab 1 and then just in general for the first few days after jab 2 and 3. I was okay jab 4 but fully expecting it to come back for my next dose.

@DIYMum fingers and toes crossed you're okay. I remember you had er dramatic side effects when you started. Has it been tricky after the other doses? I'm doing my first 5mg tomorrow and need to drive kids around Saturday....

Hey
It's my 2nd ( due my 3rd tomorrow) just honestly feel like I can't leave the sofa. Not sure if it's the injections or I'm coming down with something, very weird.
Also can't decide what I want for dinner cause everything doesn't sound appealing xxx

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/02/2025 14:51

@Shmallow I'm the same about weight loss "counting" in my head. I've 10 stone to lose so it won't show in like forever and I haven't had the huge starting losses but I've got amounts in my head I weighed last year/ couple of years ago/covid and then it will start to feel real!

@Lostatsea10 know the feeling! I felt like now I'd finally done it I should be 3stone lighter 😂. Hope you don't get too much in the ay of side effects. I was crap the first 48hours but it did wear off.

@RachCmomma you poor thing. Hope it eases soon.

There was cake at work today and I just didn't really want it. Wasn't disgusted just didn't fancy it. If I'd needed to socially I could have but just wasn't fussed. I can't ever remember feeling like this when offered food!

I don't feel awful. Think I'm gonna up my fruit and veg. Focus on protein and try and get some energy back xx

Morning!

Hope evryone is okay. Great to read the posts and welcome to new people 😊. And we'll done for scraping in before they put the prices up! Hope first jabs go okay and you don't have too bad side effects. I felt quite unwell for a bit with the first one but it did pass for me.

Re side effects - someone asked if they do respond and if you report side effects they will ring you if they are concerned or sned a general email and ask you to contact them if you want them to ring. Much of shemeds customer service is slow but that side of things seems to be working in my experience!

@SeaStoat mine actively won't engage and sent me a text to say so. I think the GPS are pushing back on extra work the prescribing service should be doing. Similar with adhd meds in our area. So I had the same thought!

Yay for a fab loss and hope 5mg jab is okay. I'm jabbing Friday and half expecting to react a bit Saturday so don't have to be anywhere!

Oh @Mumof5cubs just seen your post and sorry its been horrible. And got worse 😔. Have you contacted shemed for advice? I hope today is better for you. I think I'll be in the same boat this weekend. I'm trying to tell myself it's the biggest leap (as in doubling the dose) and will be worth it but you do sound really ill. Hope you got some sleep x

@Mieliwood sorry you're suffering too 😔. I hope it adjusts soon for you.

@Reginaphalangeeeee I had my first period straight after my first jab and it was a couple of days longer, heavier and "clottier" than usual (actual might explain some of my side effects). I do wonder if there is a link. I wonder if it will happen to our next one too or if it's just the first one. It's bizarre they're nto collecting this data if they're interested in a woman's perspective. I still suspect it's a marketing ploy and they're just after data to show they work.... But I'm still very grateful for the reduced rate!

It does sound like they're really busy at the moment I hope it calms down a bit and they are more contactable/responsive in general.

I hope those with side effects improve and that everyone else is going okay with it all.

I risked fish and chips last night as the kids wanted it (forgot I'd need to take out a small mortgage to do so! So not a cheap meal anymore!!) and had a piece of battered fish. I only took a small handful of chips, added some veg and actually was satisfied. I really enjoyed the fish. I do think even if I was "full" in the past I'd have impulsively kept going till all the chips were gone... It really does do magic other than just making you feel full doesn't it.

I was diagnosed with adhd this week (not a surprise but a while waiting) and I do think my impulsivity around food is a factor in why I'm so big!

Thank you hun
i didnt sleep well at all, had to use the toilet rather frequently. I physically couldn’t manage the school run.

Today felt very weak and a little nauseous
had a couple teaspoons of raw honey in the morning and about an hour ago 6 salty rice cakes and some water which has stayed down thus far.

I don’t feel anything like yesterday so God willing it’s over.
thank you for your kind words and the reminder about it being the biggest jump med wise.

i logged my side effects and received a generic SheMed email but the tips included were helpful.

🌸

Afternoon fellow jabbers! I'm on W1 D4 and, so far, have had very few side effects other than a bit of a headache first thing and constantly weeing! Food suppression is definitely kicking in though and I'm easily sticking within 1200-1300 calories a day and finding I'm able to sensibly plan meals based on calories/protein content, as opposed to eating too much of what I fancy. It's a very strange feeling!

Had a cheeky little weigh in this morning and I'm 7lb down from Monday Shock although I suspect most of that is water loss through the constant toilet runs! I do have 10-11 stones to lose though, so long may this continue.

Away this weekend with a friend in a hotel, and haven't told her I'm doing this, so that's going to be interesting, as she's a big eater/drinker. I did have a nasty bout of norovirus though just before I started, so I think I'm just going to say my stomach is still feeling a bit delicate from that, and I genuinely don't fancy alcohol at all (whether that's because of the MJ or because the very last thing I put in my mouth before the vomiting started was a sip of wine, I'm not sure!), so should get away with it without telling her. Just don't want too many people knowing at the minute.

Earthgirl3971 · 06/02/2025 16:21

Ive just eaten an entire Caesar salad! 🥗 I would normally eat that over two helpings as otherwise it would be lettuce overload , but no... It's all gone! I am loving all of the salad but I wish I'd added red onion.

Looking forward to going up to 5mg, as I've just done my questionnaire as think appetite suppression is not so good anymore.?

7lbs down in total. I'm really pleased with that in two weeks.. would normally take around 6 months.

💪

Just had my week 1 check in and I've lost 7lbs!! I was hoping for 4lbs but this was quite beyond expectations. I lost just under 3lbs between the blood test and 1st jab, so 10lbs overall - I'm absolutely thrilled!

SW: 15st 10lbs
CW: 15st
GW: 9st 10lbs

You and I have the same goal weight 💪
It's remarkable what it can do isn't it ... go MJ!

Afternoon all!
Week 2, Day 1 for me. I chose Thursdays because DH is usually in the office so I wouldn’t have to tell him. Typically he’s WFH permanently for the next few months while there are works being done on the office building so had to cross fingers and hope he wouldn’t walk in while I was checking in. (I should add he’s really not a bad guy but either goes for the ‘you’re beautiful as you are you don’t need to list weight’ line - beauty doesn’t come into it, I’m not healthy like this! Or when I’ve talked about weight loss medication he’s scornful and thinks it’s taking the easy way out. I think he’d have kept those thoughts to himself if he’d known I was considering it but I can’t unhear them now. And we can’t all be blessed with the metabolism of a whippet 🙄🙄)

Only side effect so far for me has been constipation and the odd touch of mild nausea here and there. Nothing I’ve even needed to medicate, just upped my water and fibre. I’ve bought some digestive enzymes which are meant to help with stomach side effects so will start taking those before moving up to 5mg in a few weeks. That and I’m still getting the weird dry/not dry mouth but that’s just meaning I’m drinking plenty so won’t complain.

Already feeling the effects of suppression again which is a relief as the last two days involved a lot of willpower and was waking up absolutely ravenous. Today I had a protein pot for breakfast, a chicken soup for lunch (homemade, just clear broth, carrots, celery and chicken) and haven’t wanted anything since. Lost 6lbs this week which is frankly miraculous for me 😃

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/02/2025 16:40

@Mumof5cubs really hope it's over for you now. It's certainly not an "easy" or "cheating" or whatever people might say when going through all that.

@JBJ wow fab loss! Good luck with the weekend.

@Earthgirl3971 wahooo! Yes I'm a bit nervous about the first few days but looking forward to. "moving up".

tinyemmy · 06/02/2025 17:36

I'm checking in, took my first 5mg yesterday morning (6:45) and I felt quite tired yesterday evening, but I often feel like that. I had an EHCP Tribunal for my daughter so chose to skip lunch as I didn't want to risk side effects, so I'd say I found it easy to not eat. I've been in the office today and I have been non-stop. I feel very tired but that could be lack of food (only had a protein yogurt for lunch) but I have also had a busy day. I have a bit of acid indigestion and probably a bit constipated but generally feel ok.
I drank loads of water yesterday and I would say that's key for the first day. I've just had a normal amount today.
@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden my daughter has ADHD, I wonder if I have this too. She and I have no off switch when it comes to food but my youngest daughter will have a couple of chocolate buttons and then stop.

ploot · 06/02/2025 18:28

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden omg it's been weeks and I couldn't figure out finding the new thread 🤦🏼‍♀️ thank you for consistently posting because I finally found you!

Update from me, I weighed in on NYD at 20st flat. As of now, I'm 18st 8.8lbs.

2lbs of those since yesterday (somehow 1/4 of a daim pie helped? not questioning it!)

It's check in day tomorrow, and my last 2.5mg. I have my 5mg ready in the fridge for next week.

Very little side effects for me, mainly just not going to the toilet as much, some trapped wind etc, nothing too bad. Not much appetite suppressant either, but making good choices is way easier now.

A welcome side effect, because I jab late on a Friday night, I have the best ever nights sleep! I have never woken up feeling refreshed, ever in my life, but I wake up feeling half human. Bizarre!!

Hope you & others are all getting on ok!

I'm part of a couple of SheMed Facebook groups now, but now the deal has ended there's an influx of £199 members. I'd love a space for just those of us on the £99 12 month program, imagine following all our journeys for a whole year!

Not sure if anyone knows of any?

ForPeachSake · 06/02/2025 18:33

Finally had the money taken for my second pen this afternoon after completing my first questionnaire on Sunday, so hopefully that should arrive soon.

Ready for jab four tomorrow, although I don't think I've lost anything this week with being on but never mind!

Oh just to add, I had my first jab on 17/01 and here are my check ins

17/01 jab 1 - 19st 5.8lbs
24/01 jab 2 - 19st 0lbs (SheMed logged as 18st 14lbs 😂)
31/01 jab 3 - 18st 11.6lbs

I weigh every day, with yesterday's weight being 18st 10.4lbs and today's being 18st 8.8lbs.

Will be super pleased if I weigh in tomorrow morning below 18st 9lbs.

How many lbs is that? 8.2 plus whatever I've lost by tomorrow.

Think I've lost almost 20lbs since 1st Jan though!

Keep mentioning the fact you're only paying £99 every chance you get and the £199ers will kick you all out before long and you'll have to make a new group anyway 🤣 job done

I honestly thought they'd carry the deal on for longer, I'm a massive cynic, so I'm glad I snapped it up when I did!

I'm finding the Facebook groups are too big and busy now!!!
Lots of repetative posts!

We will have to keep this chat going!!!

RedHillLady · 06/02/2025 21:27

I'm going away for the weekend. Jab 5 is due on Saturday and I'm staying on 2.5 as I've had a few side effects and didn't want to risk going to 5 away from home!!!
It will be interesting to see how the weekend goes. I will be with dh who is supportive.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 06/02/2025 21:27

@tinyemmy don't envy you the tribunal. I almost went for a case officer job and then saw the light. I hope it went okay. Really pleased for you it's "just" tiredness (although that's draining I know!)

I don't think I realised how much I didn't have an "off" switch until MJ. I didn't think of myself as out of control... But I'm also over 20stone. It's all. Making sense with the adhd now!

@ploot Yay you found us!! And what an amazing loss for the first month you must be so pleased!

I've lurked over there too but it's really my scrolling time when I'm procrastinating. There's a lot of the same questions. Maybe it will die down. I'm not sure why anyone would pay £199 a month tbh as we aren't getting the 24/7 access or actual support you might pay for... I'm v happy at £99 though 😁.

Yes, case officer is the worst job!! I love that mj exists!! My daughter is on stimulants so doesn't eat much lunch which helps a bit, we are also trying to teach her not to eat her feelings/sensory etc but it's hard as I do it so not the best teacher. Mj makes it possible though!
I am very lucky with the minimal side effects! Fingers crossed for you too!

themumformerlyknownas · 06/02/2025 22:29

Evening all - it's been a tough week personally but side effects after my 2nd jab haven't been as bad as last week so I'm feeling more confident that I've cracked the food and am making use of the care package! Windeze is my saviour at the moment 😂

So glad to see some great losses for a few of you so far! And extending a hug to those suffering with side effects - it'll all be worth it 💐

themumformerlyknownas · 06/02/2025 22:31

Shmallow · 06/02/2025 10:07

Sorry to hear about some of the nasty side effects people are having, it doesn't sound fun. My only one is basically losing all joy in food, which is a bit weird at the moment. I'm finding it a chore to think of anything I want to eat now.

I did my last jab of 2.5 this morning. My weight fluctuates a lot during the week so it has been lower but on official check ins I'm 5.5kg down in three weeks. It's a good loss but I won't start to feel like I'm doing well until I've lost about 15kg, as that is my previous lower weight that I maintained for quite a while. Once I'm going down beyond that, I'll feel better.

Agreed - such a chore trying to figure out what to eat for me!!

SnowieBear · 06/02/2025 22:34

It will be my first check in tomorrow - excited and at the same time frightened to death to face the scales.

My first week has been pretty uneventful. Very minimal side effects: a little bit of burping, but not sulphureous, feeling cold at times, but that's about it. Suppression has been good and I have been eating sensibly and healthily.

DH got approved and started yesterday, it's good to be on the same journey together and be able to buddy up in our choices and food decisions.

Hope to be back tomorrow with a loss to report, it would be such a boost!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 07/02/2025 07:10

Hmm week 5 check in and depending on what you count my starting weight (my first recorded weight was on a period so I'm taking the week before) I've lost 4kg /9 pounds over the month.

I do wish I'd been one of those it had been falling off as I've been eating a lot less but we had started reducing upf in the weeks before so not a huge change of diet, but definitely much less! Also prior to MJ 9 pounds in a month would be amazing!!

And 1kg a week would still be amazing long term.

I do the 5mg jab today. Bit wary of side effects. I hope that this wasn't my initial burst and it slows down 😬

Hope everyone else is okay and has a good weekend.
