FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/01/2025 10:00

Fantastic we made it to thread 2!

This is a thread for all those who have started or are about to start the Shemed programme in January.

Those waiting for blood tests /first pens hope you hear soon!
Those on their first/second jab hope it's going well - do come and tell us how it's going.

This is designed as a supportive space to share with each other how it's going, worries, side effects as well celebrating wins and results :)

Good morning everyone, it’s so good to read about everyone’s experiences. I hope those with side effects have a settled day.
i have just completed my first weigh-in. My scales eventually settled at a massive 7lb loss! To say I’m pleased would be an understatement. Mind you…I have a lot to lose!
I’ve not noticed any real side-effects but I have definitely reduced my food intake. It feels as though it’s boosting my will power. There were donuts in the office on Thursday and Friday that did not appeal at all, even though I was feeling hungry.
The pain in my knee returned over the week. I’m hoping as I take more jabs it will have a cumulative effect and stay pain free longer. (The weight loss will help as well!) The last 12 months in pain have been miserable and limiting.
I’ll do my jab tonight before bed. Is it a good idea to take the pen out of the fridge a bit before injecting? I’m not sure whether using it fridge cold will sting more? (I used it straight from the SheMed box last week so it wasn’t as cold.)

You don't have to keep it in the fridge. But if that where you are gonna keep it then I'd take it out and just sit with it between your legs for 5 mins then should be good to go. (Its what we do when hubby forgets to get his insulin out)

FollyDear · 02/02/2025 10:50

@TaliaTalia I hope it eases off as you go through the day. Mine certainly did, just keep drinking plenty of water 😁

I just did my second check in, so I am officially W2D1! 2.9kgs down which I think is 6lbs ish. Hoping the side effects continue to leave me alone!

bertieallsort · 02/02/2025 11:36

Got my results back this morning, got quite a shock about how bad some of them were so now I’m so stressed about getting rejected. None of it was surprising as such as the GP had already flagged those things on my last bloods in the autumn but it’s quite stark actually seeing a lab report with it all spelled out.
Now just to wait to hear from the clinicians but I know how it’s even more important for me to lose weight.

Shmallow · 02/02/2025 18:20

Should be ok @bertieallsort - they don't really use the blood test to reject people but to form the baseline against which to measure future results.

I've got a 5mg pen coming now, though it also says it was expected yesterday! So hopefully it'll come tomorrow and will have remained cold enough. Half way through week three now and I have to say I have very little interest in food anymore. I just can't think of anything I really want to eat!

SignalCat · 02/02/2025 18:21

I got the go ahead today. The money has been taken and next step is waiting for it to ship from the pharmacy.

thanks for all the info on this and the original thread, I’ve been lurking for a while and the thread has been really helpful.

are there any threads for those of us with quite a lot to lose. I see a significant slog ahead and it would be great to connect with those in a similar position.

Shmallow · 02/02/2025 19:16

@SignalCat I don't know how much you have to lose but there's a non-shemed specific 10+ stone thread that's pretty active, I think.

Newshoesnewname · 02/02/2025 20:01

@SignalCat I shouldn't have assumed, I'm sorry.

If that thread doesn't suit I believe there is a similar one for 5 stone or more.

SignalCat · 02/02/2025 20:04

@Newshoesnewname that thread is perfect, thank you x

minerva7 · 02/02/2025 21:03

Tomorrow is D-Day for me!
I'll be doing my blood test, weight etc and I'm so excited to get started!
I love this thread for all the information and support.
I'm coming along for the ride! 🤩

Evening!

We've had a really manic weekend here so I haven't been online and now am catching up. Hope everyone is okay and everyone on weekend jabs.

Great to hear the losses happening already. I do know 2.5 is a "loading dose" so not everyone gets them but lovely for those who have!

Well done and welcome to those just starting too :)First one takes a lot of being brave and then it does get easier.

£199 - I did notice they really did end their offer at the end of January so for new people it would be £199. I'm not sure that's such a good deal but I'm hoping maybe their communications will settled down as they finish onboarding the hoards who signed up. So different to December when so many people were critical!

Also Im one of the ones the blood test didnt work for so they said they'd send a new blood test in Feb so hope that comes soon.

@gillirhys Gosh that really is shocking. That's too many days in between isn't it. I'm so sorry - they seem great with side effects and some things nad their horrendous communication is really bad for things like this. So many questions ive seen on the facebook group could be easily answered by reading their T and Cs but something like this is important! Hope its okay. Did they apologise?? I'm wondering baout buying needles now - where did you get them @Newshoesnewname and how did you know which ones were correct?? Oh I've just seen a deleted message I assume it was that!

@seastoat Im a bit bigger than you and think similarly I'll need to get from 26/28 to at least 20 before its even noticable. I will know though and hoping once I get lower it will start being more noticeable each stone. My first 5 or so though....

@SignalCat I've got 10 stone to lose to get into overweight pretty much. THere's a few of us here and the general mumsnet one is lovely. I've had a few wobbles seeing those just losing a stone or two and the overwhelming-ness of how much I have to lose and it wont even be visible for ages. But it will be worth it :)

@minerva7 Good luck tomorrow.

Interesting to hear about drink... will bear it in mind!

I did jab 4 Fri eve and was tired and went to bed early but haven't been as nauseas as the other jabs. I'm a bit nervous about going up to 5mg as I think the symptoms may come back.

Lovely to hear all your news as ever - you're all such a lovely group!

Thanks for this advice. Second injection now done.

Sending positivity to everyone!

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden I didn't even realise I'd been deleted 🙈

I searched syringe on this board and found a previous post.

I've got my first pen in the fridge and planning on starting tomorrow. I'm absolutely terrified! I get very anxious about side effects from medication, and I'm scared I'll feel horribly ill and will have to wait a good week for it to be put my system. I'm excited at the prospect of changing my life, but frightened at the same time!

My main worry is that I know I've put a load of weight on since I did my initial weigh in for the blood test, as I'd just come out of a week of barely eating due to norovirus, so was at least 8-9lb lighter than normal just from dehydration! Will they take a new weight off me tomorrow?

Yes, they will take your weight tomorrow and that will be your starting weight.

JBJ · 02/02/2025 23:39

@Newshoesnewname thanks. God, it's going to look like I've eaten all the pies this past couple of weeks, ad I know I'm at least 9lb heavier than I was that day 🤣

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden New pen arrived and I finally got to do second jab this morning so thankful to be back on the train!! 😎

@Newshoesnewname sorry you got a post deleted, you were so helpful

Reginaphalangeeeee · 03/02/2025 07:51

@Mazd323 good luck with jab 3 today. I did my jab 3 last night.
Great sleep but oh so tired today, cold, trapped wind feeling and flip flop dry tongue!
I think it's the utter fatigue that gets me most day 1-2 after jab.

So I did a weigh in a day early (by myself) as away for the weekend and showed a 3lbs loss 😍 which with week 1 9lbs puts me 12lbs down in 2 weeks. I am so so pleased!
I am still
Seeing 130's but nearly in 120's which is first goal by the first month which is totally achievable now.

I did my 'formal' Shemed weigh in when home Sunday night which basically shows only 1lbs loss so just goes to show variation when time of day varies.

On and up this week. Did the week 3 questionnaire about dose, I presume everyone gets put on 5mg unless a reason not to?

Reginaphalangeeeee · 03/02/2025 07:56

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden and Seastoat (sorry can't find your name)

Yes thank you, I think 12lbs down and no one will notice. I think I do look a bit less bloated but recog another 12lbs before noticeable.

In terms of clothes sizes, it's really tricky to see a difference there too as I tend to buy loose fitting. Newer things are size 22-24 but clearly own and have stretched things I own as size 20.
I think I need to loose a lot and gain a lot of confidence before my clothing will change which will then make it more obvious I guess.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 03/02/2025 08:03

12 pounds is amazing! I think they seem to be putting people up to 5, as 2.5 is a starting dose, unless someone has bad side effects/really doesnt want to they can talk to them.

Mine was fairly quick after doing the questionaruire. I did it early morning and I think the next pen arrived the next day!!

Try not to worry too much (easier said than done I know). Everything I’ve read says that 1% of people suffer severe side effects, 10% have some bad but manageable side effects and for everyone else they’re pretty mild. I’ve been watching a lot of peoples journeys on TikTok and even those getting bad side effects aren’t suffering constantly, it’s a couple of days post jab for most of them. I’m not counting my chickens yet because I’m only one jab in but besides the mother of all hangovers yesterday I’ve been fine.

W1D5 today and I’ve woken up HUNGRY 😭
Going to try and stick to high fibre, high protein healthy foods but I could happily inhale the contents of the fridge right now.

meatyryvita · 03/02/2025 09:38

@TaliaTalia SAME! I'm W1 D5 (I did my first jab last Thursday) and woke up so damned hungry today (and was hungry last night). I did a work out first thing and felt okay after a bit of water and then have been slowly working my way through my granola and yoghurt for an hour (just trying to listen to my hunger cues rather than just wolfing it all down).

I wasn't sure if it was wearing off or whether I'm hugely resistant to it but then I remember it's W1 D5 and so I shouldn't worry at this point. I've definitely eaten far less than usual and last night started to add my calories to My Fitness Pal which is helping me to ensure that I am eating enough but not too much.

I definitely feel less bloated but that's likely due to the gas I seem to have every morning! Honestly, it sounds like a busy port here at the moment 😂.

Looking forward to my next jab on Thursday!

Just done my 3rd injection and refill questionnaire. How long roughly did it take to be approved/ next jab sent out?

I filled mine out Saturday evening and it's still under review but I'm thinking it will be sometime this week as it says 2 working days to review the request xx
