1000 replies

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/01/2025 10:00

Fantastic we made it to thread 2!

This is a thread for all those who have started or are about to start the Shemed programme in January.

Those waiting for blood tests /first pens hope you hear soon!
Those on their first/second jab hope it's going well - do come and tell us how it's going.

This is designed as a supportive space to share with each other how it's going, worries, side effects as well celebrating wins and results :)

I haven't read through this thread yet, but found it after reading one of the earlier threads discussing whether SheMed was legit.
I ordered my blood test kit yesterday and had an email today to say it had shipped.
I'm excited to get started. I'm hoping with the medical support I might make some progress.
I used Wegovy for a good few months and lost nothing. I think I have a really slow metabolism due to illness and maybe all the medication I'm on.
Anyway I thought it was worth one more try so her I am.
I am in Scotland. I did read a post in said early thread from a Scottish poster to say it wasn't available to her. I hope you see this. I half expected to be rejected because of my address but am relieved that I wasn't.
Good luck everyone! I'm off to catch up with the threads 😊

Welcome @minerva7 🥰

JBJ · 28/01/2025 21:11

I've had my email now saying I've been accepted and my first own will be here tomorrow! Going to wait until Monday to start though, as I've got a lot of stuff on over weekends in the coming months and would prefer to be at home for a few days after the injections in case I get any side effects.

SeaStoat · 28/01/2025 21:36

First week done. I'm 6lbs down without trying. I have a lot of weight to shed and a lot of inflammation, so it's probably mostly water weight. I felt clearer in my lungs (not something I thought was an issue before starting!) and also walked easier after a day or two - less hip and lower leg pain days 2-6. Maybe I'll be leaping up and down the stairs in a few months. I am hoping that MJ may reduce the lipoedema in my legs.

I was glad today was shot day as I was a bit more achey yesterday and a tad more hungry. So second shot today - W1D8. I was a bit anxious about getting it right, but preferred to use the instructions instead of being talked through it. I hadn't realised I needed to check in for my first jab so had just done that on my own.

I didn't have my scales when I did check in today - so just gave her my weigh in. I weigh in in the morning so prefer to use that data. Will I have to do it on camera early doors in future? Or can I check in at a more convenient time and simply state my results?

Newshoesnewname · 28/01/2025 22:16

Pants!😡

I've just over the last couple of hours developed a snotty cold. Hopefully it will be gone in 48 hours so I can do my first jab on Thursday. I'm not sure about doing the first one if I'm fighting a virus.

Might be a bit of an overload and result in worse side effects 🤔

Monmonss · 29/01/2025 06:37

Hi everyone, I'm on my W3 D4 and am also very confused why they're already sending me a new pen. Not sure will I still be able to use my 2.5 mg pen on Saturday when is my injection day. They haven't been the best with replying to emails and even when they do reply things don't make much sense so I have to wait a couple of days for a new reply. Tried calling, they said they'll call back which they did after 2 days only for the phone to ring 10 seconds. By the time I tried to answer that was it. Not very happy with the communication. Anyway, they prescribed me 5 mg although I did ask to stay on 2.5 as I had minimal side effects and it's doing its job. They replied the same as to some of you who asked the same question. really hope 5 mg will work for me without the side effects. Also, somehow they can't send my prescriptions to my GP so I have to do it. That is another thing I can't get sorted because nobody is answering... Rant over. 🙄 I'm glad to read so many positive stories and good luck to everyone on this journey.

Same here, have a lot of plans this weekend so going to start fresh on Monday. Just more worried about side effects ruining my son’s birthday weekend. I like Monday to be my weigh days, fresh start to the week. Fingers crossed to minimal side effects!

kittykarate · 29/01/2025 07:24

Hi @Monmonss don't worry about them sending the 5mg pen during week3. They are just going early because if you refrigerated both pens they won't go out of date, and they don't want you to have a gap in medication if the post office messes up.

I have the message about my prescription not being sent to my doctor. I also get random messages in the app saying my GP details aren't set (they are).

Thanks @kittykarate ,that's very reassuring. Have you received a new pen? I just wasn't sure if during the check in they'll tell me to go with the 5 mg when I still have one dose of 2.5 mg. I'm still trying to contact them just to tell them their support is rubbish. 😁😂

kittykarate · 29/01/2025 09:14

Yes I've had pen #2 chilling in the fridge for about 5 days. I took my dose #4 from pen #1 yesterday, moving onto pen#2 next week.

So long and confusing story not so short - take your last dose from the 2.5mg when it's due, then move onto the new pen for later weeks.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 29/01/2025 09:33

I've had a cheeky weigh and I don't think I'll be losing anything this week 😬. Maybe half a pound if I do a poo (!!). I'm telling myself it goes in waves and not to be too jealous of those with huge losses. I've a long way to go so need to keep with it. I just would have liked a nice big set of losses the first few weeks!

@kittykarate wahooo for dose 4. I am taking my dose 4 this Friday and similarly have my new pen sat chilling in my fridge!

@Monmonss its just how it works. The questionnaire on week 3 triggers the new pen so it arrives before you take dose 4 of your first pen. You still take dose 4 of pen 1 and then start pen 2 the following week.
Welcome new people and yay for those taking first jabs :)

Slow and steady wins the race and avoids the dreaded saggy skin! You're doing brilliantly.

bluesmartie83 · 29/01/2025 09:53

A little gutted this morning. I had plans to weigh in first thing before work then jan this evening. Unfortunately at 5.30am the app was down for maintenance and I couldn't check in so will have to do it later. Not too much of an issue but disappointed- I had psyched myself up and was ready!

Monmonss · 29/01/2025 10:38

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden Yeah, it makes sense. I'm also not losing much but on the other hand looking at it as more sustainable weight loss. 😊You got this!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 29/01/2025 10:42

Thanks Bruh. I do know that in theory! I'm v obese so just hoped....!!

@bluesmartie83 grrrrrr. You could do a "real weigh" yourself tomorrow... I'm recording my own "naked weight" separate to my she med one!

@Monmonss Thankyou ♥️.

Same! I have my naked weight (often daily) and then a fully clothed one for Shemed.

I also do the jab when I want, so it was annoying that shemed was down for maintenance this morning but when it was up 30 mins later I just did the weigh in then.

I'm down 7lbs in the 3 weeks I've been doing this which includes a week ski holiday so I'm really pleased. I'm hopeful that I can be at a much healthier weight by the time I go away in May 🤞

I don't ever want to be off this, it is brilliant.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 29/01/2025 11:00

Well done Tinyemmy!

I don't ever want to come off either. Even with the side effects I've got the lack of worry around food is just amazing.

Hope you'll be feeling well enough soon to start. @Newshoesnewname

I'm glad to find this thread - as I'd been to Reddit and just got roundly scolded by people who hate the SheMed model. It's good to be among positive women.

I want to do a diary thread - Minimins is likely to close soon, so I'm not sure where to go to do a daily diary post. Any suggestions?

SnowieBear · 29/01/2025 12:40

Hi everyone!

Been following your journeys with great interest while I waited for my results and prescription - got approved this morning, beyond excited to get started!

DH tested yesterday and we will be anxiously waiting for his results now - have decided to stagger our jab days so we can look after one another in case of side effects.

Menopause hasn't been kind to me - I have been trying SO hard this last year, I am really hoping the magic works for me and I am able to turn a corner.

Bigknickers56 · 29/01/2025 12:50

Hi everyone. Can anyone explain to me what the "extra" dose is that I have read about on other chats? I don't understand what it is, how it works, and whether we have it on SheMed? Thank you 😊

JBJ · 29/01/2025 12:52

Ooh my first pen has just arrived! So tempted to do it now, but I've got a lot of stuff planned this weekend and don't want to risk side effects, so I'm waiting until Monday morning. Also going to make sure I eat very healthily over the next few days so as there's no crap in my system when I start.

BruhWhy · 29/01/2025 13:01

It's a bit of extra medication that's loaded into the pen to account for priming and malfunctioning etc. People take this extra dose to eke out the pen for an extra week by using an insulin syringe they buy separately.

With SheMed being a subscription we'll be getting a new pen before getting the chance to use the 'extra' dose, so there's no point.

Shmallow · 29/01/2025 13:20

I'll be doing dose three tomorrow and dreading it only because I have a stinking cold virus and I've come on my period so I'll probably be right back up to my starting weight 🤣

kittykarate · 29/01/2025 13:32

The mounjaro pen has 'spare' liquid in it beyond the 4 doses, to allow you to prime the pen etc. But, once you've done the 4 doses the pen stops dispensing (I think), so if you're paying £150 a pen, and are not on a program where they monitor your doses, it is possible that you might buy some diabetic syringes and draw out the 'spare' liquid and inject that manually.

If you're on Shemed, you should not be doing the extra dose.

Bigknickers56 · 29/01/2025 14:02

Thank you @BruhWhy and @kittykarate I get it now! Yes, I can see why some people use it on other plans. At least that's one less thing to think about.
