Weight gain on mounjaro

Any else experience this? I’m just starting my 4th week on 2.5mg. I lost a few pounds in my first week on it, but these are back on now. I’ve had no effects at all from the injections - good or bad. I’ve already bought the 5mg dose to start next week, but I’m starting to wonder if it’s worth the cost. I bought from a big online pharmacy so I’m assuming that I haven’t been sent a placebo or anything. But it’s really doing nothing for me, apart from costing me money! Am I alone in this?

3 stone to get out of obese zone, 4 to be best weight.

How quickly did you put on this weight? Did anything change to cause you to quickly put on weight?

curious79 · 18/01/2025 14:42

Use 2.5 and the edge it takes off your hunger to build good habits. You need these for the future anyway. I can’t go up because I have reactions on the higher dose and feel so grotty. But I’m finding 2.5 is still effective. If you really want to cheat this stuff you can though. There are plenty of people who have bariatric surgery for example who still end up putting weight back on, despite amazing weight loss in the first place. Remember, change the bad habits.

Weepixie · 18/01/2025 14:43

3 stone to get out of obese zone, 4 to be best weight.

you can do that.

How about you change your breakfast this week and have the same one every day for 7 days and eat your other meals as normal.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 18/01/2025 14:17

My stomach is in bits on 0.25 of Wegove. I can’t imagine taking 5mg 🤢

It’s like comparing apples and pears. The medications are very different.

This time? 15 years. Over three pregnancies and a miscarriage, loads of work stress and life shit.
Prior to that - puberty, being on the pill, etc etc.

So on your other thread when you say you’re not overweight and exercise and eat well…. Less than 18 months ago the ago, that was untrue?

What other thread? What the fuck is this turning in to?

It’s your thread op 🤷

Try ChatGPT - I know it gets a bad rep for some things, but it can be helpful for ideas. Type in give me a daily vegetarian menu which is 1200 calories and high in protein and it will give you ideas. Pasta/bread/rice are very occasional in my diet now - which is completely different to how I ate before, you need to do the same. Having chosen a restrictive diet you need to be a bit more imaginative and change the things you eat.

ChatGPT suggestion (it gave recipes for each)

Breakfast - Protein pancakes 220cals, 22g protein
Snack - Greek Yogurt Parfait, 140 calories, 12g protein
Lunch - Tofu and Veggie Stir-fry, 300 calories, 20g protein
Snack - Edamame Bowl, 95 calories, 9g protein
Dinner - Lentil Soup with Spinach 275 calories, 20g protein

Daily Totals Calories: 1200, Protein: 83g, Carbs: 110g, Fat: 28g

You can adjust how many calories you want, ask it to redo without Edamame if you don't like them etc.

SnarkSideOfLife · 18/01/2025 15:00

Friend of mine was talking today about a book she’s reading called The Obesity Code, lots of information about the benefit of low carb but also the importance of not just what we eat but when we eat, so intermittent fasting to help lower insulin resistance. I think that sort of knowledge in conjunction with MJ could be helpful (and i include myself as someone needing this sort of help).

Polkadotdash · 18/01/2025 15:01

I have no idea what you’re on about but I don’t like what it implies. That you are going through old mumsnet posts like a stalker to see if you can get some kind of gotcha about why I’m fat????? What kind of loony are you?
What do you hope to do with this information? Force me to admit I’m fat because I’m a lazy, overeating, piggy?? Like I say I KNOW I AM FAT.

Absolute madness.

@Bilbette you’re right. This thread is insane. Every time I think it’s on the right track someone comes along and tells me I’m deluded, ignorant, fat because 2000 cals a day is gluttony and what the fuck are you doing eating fruit and yogurt for breakfast. I regret engaging with a lot of this. I feel like all they want me to say is ‘I’m fat because I eat like a pig’ like it’s new news to me, sitting here in my size 18 leggings because I can no longer wear anything else.
There has been some useful responses though and it’s been great to hear that other people haven’t necessarily had the flying weight loss start that others (in my real world life) have had.

To be fair, the 'women need 2000 calories a day' thing was established in 1941. When most people didn't have cars, walked everywhere, didn't have TVs, had to grocery shop multiple times a week, walking to multiple different shops, no convenience food...

Your life is rather different to the above, and regardless of what the TDEE calculator says (based on the info you've given it re your own opinion of your activity level etc), to eat 2000 calories and be surprised that you haven't lost weight is a bit unrealistic.

kimchisauchio · 18/01/2025 15:03

Sweet Jesus

you said I am not overweight on a thread that I was on with you because I too suffer sleep apnea

I’ll leave you to it op, and this time hide the thread! you sound on knife edge

To be correct I lost it and then gained it.

I mentioned it because if you weren’t overweight so recently

something may have caused the weight gain that would help!!

It’s not incorrect

the Op says I am not overweight

I have literally pasted that

on I’ll hide this thread

I’m not on a knife edge. But this is all turning into an interrogation. Why did you go looking up old threads if it wasn’t for that purpose?

To be correct, you're at the same weight you started at, because you haven't changed anything in your diet, and by your own admission you expected 'a miracle' from MJ.

Polkadotdash · 18/01/2025 15:08

@IrisPallida thank you! I really do not know what is going on here today.

Whydoeseveryonewanttoargue · 18/01/2025 14:22

You won’t lose weight eating 2000 calories a day.

This isn’t magic or a silver billet and I think maybe you need to understand this in context of your eating habits.

You don’t eat fish or meat (protein which is good and filling but not carbs) and your diet is carby.

Cut the carbs. Up the protein.

You will if your TDEE is above 2000 calories 🙄 why post such a sweepingly wrong statement?

spuddy4 · 18/01/2025 15:09

I didn't start to notice any proper weight loss until I was on 7.5mg. I was close to calling it a day myself but I found a lot of people on Reddit who had the same experience and stuck with it then started to lose weight. I'm now on 12.5mg and continuing to lose, not as fast as I initially was but a loss is a loss. I'd say give it a few months before you decide, I know loads of people lose a few stone without going up from 2.5mg but everyone is different so don't be too hard on yourself or too hasty.

InkHeart2024 · 18/01/2025 15:10

This thread is about Mounjaro, you start on 2.5mg and go up to 15. Wegovy starts at 0.25mg and goes up to 2.5. You wouldn't be taking 5mg of Wegovy.
