Weight gain on mounjaro

Any else experience this? I’m just starting my 4th week on 2.5mg. I lost a few pounds in my first week on it, but these are back on now. I’ve had no effects at all from the injections - good or bad. I’ve already bought the 5mg dose to start next week, but I’m starting to wonder if it’s worth the cost. I bought from a big online pharmacy so I’m assuming that I haven’t been sent a placebo or anything. But it’s really doing nothing for me, apart from costing me money! Am I alone in this?

Start as you mean to go on seems a sensible approach to me

the above means making the necessary changes to your diet and lifestyle that caused weight gain in the first place. It means being in a calorie deficit at the very least. Then when you’ve got where you want to be you then add the deficit back till you can maintain your weight along with your better eating and lifestyle changes.

taking a medication and carrying on as you have been doing isn’t going to do anything for you.

And as for 1000 calories - very few people are on 1000 calories a day and if they are there’s probably a reason for it. personally I’m on between 1450 and 1600 a day and when I’m at my target in probably another 8 - 10 weeks I’ll re-introduce my deficit and go up to between 2100 and 2300 daily to maintain. I’m 5’8” and work out 3 times per week. Oh and I’m 66 and weight loss as you get older does slow down a bit.

Why so angry, most of the posts on here are helpful. And the op is over eating, she’s gaining weight, and she doesn’t wish to gain weight;

No. It’s not my defence of what has been a shit show in parts. It’s me pointing out to you that you’ve exaggerated the less than desirable posts whilst conveniently overlooking the nice and helpful ones.

I have the protein bar because otherwise my protein intake is very low - a bit of cheese and a bit of hummus. And everyone keeps saying ‘increase your protein intake’. As a vegetarian, that’s hard.

Try the alpro high protein yoghurts, tofu, chickpeas etc.

swap out the sandwich for a chickpea and lentil salad with a high protein grilled cheese on the side. Maybe chuck in an avocado.

You give enough of a damn to have posted in the first place. It’s such a shame though that you have to borrow lines from a decades old film to further make a fool of yourself.

Polkadotdash · 18/01/2025 14:14

Just for context when you say ‘gaining weight’ we are talking about having lost four pounds at the start on MJ and put on five.
That was an unexpected outcome for me.
I’m not piling on a stone in a month on MJ.

Oblomov25 · 18/01/2025 12:50

Ok then.
I don't know why you were overweight in the first place.

I’ve said why earlier in the thread.
I didn’t just become obese after 4 weeks on MJ, ffs.

How much do you have to lose op?

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 18/01/2025 14:17

My stomach is in bits on 0.25 of Wegove. I can’t imagine taking 5mg 🤢

Polkadotdash · 18/01/2025 14:18

kimchisauchio · 18/01/2025 13:12

I’m fat, because like most people who have a full time job and kids, I haven’t always had time to do all the things you need to do to not be fat.

oh don’t be daft. “most people” 😒

If being busy and time poor isn’t the cause for most people, what is, in your opinion? Let me see if I fit the profile of what a fatty is.

Oh come on.

I have children and I work full time

My health and my body is important to me, so I make time for exercise and eating well. and yes - that eats into Mumsnetting watching tv!

Its about priorities

kimchisauchio · 18/01/2025 14:22

but given your diet, I reckon you don’t have too much lose at all?

Whydoeseveryonewanttoargue · 18/01/2025 14:22

Polkadotdash · 17/01/2025 12:29

I get that you need to restrict calorie intake and that the benefit that Mounjaro gives you over just willpower is to not be hungry so you eat less. I’m just not experiencing that and still eating around 2000 cals a day. Maybe I will experience hunger suppression on the higher dose. Or maybe it just doesn’t work for me.

You won’t lose weight eating 2000 calories a day.

This isn’t magic or a silver billet and I think maybe you need to understand this in context of your eating habits.

You don’t eat fish or meat (protein which is good and filling but not carbs) and your diet is carby.

Cut the carbs. Up the protein.

Polkadotdash · 18/01/2025 14:27

@Bilbette you’re right. This thread is insane. Every time I think it’s on the right track someone comes along and tells me I’m deluded, ignorant, fat because 2000 cals a day is gluttony and what the fuck are you doing eating fruit and yogurt for breakfast. I regret engaging with a lot of this. I feel like all they want me to say is ‘I’m fat because I eat like a pig’ like it’s new news to me, sitting here in my size 18 leggings because I can no longer wear anything else.
There has been some useful responses though and it’s been great to hear that other people haven’t necessarily had the flying weight loss start that others (in my real world life) have had.

@Polkadotdash going forward just ignore the posters who are being nasty, scaly the two who are here for a bit of sport. Just concentrate on the people trying to help you as long as they are not being destructive in their posts.
