Weight gain on mounjaro

Any else experience this? I’m just starting my 4th week on 2.5mg. I lost a few pounds in my first week on it, but these are back on now. I’ve had no effects at all from the injections - good or bad. I’ve already bought the 5mg dose to start next week, but I’m starting to wonder if it’s worth the cost. I bought from a big online pharmacy so I’m assuming that I haven’t been sent a placebo or anything. But it’s really doing nothing for me, apart from costing me money! Am I alone in this?

Ok so to address your question of what should you eat, to reduce calories and increase protein, taking into consideration no meat and you don't like eggs.

Meal ideas you can combine these with a snack to get 3 meals and 1 snack a day for under 1600 calories and giving you about 50% of your calories from protein.

Protein Smoothie with 1 scoop of plant-based protein powder, unsweetened almond milk, spinach, chia seeds, and a tablespoon of almond butter
(~300 calories, 25g protein)
Tofu Salad with marinated tofu, mixed greens, cucumber, avocado, olives, and a low-carb dressing (olive oil, lemon, mustard)
(~400 calories, 35g protein):
Lentil and Vegetable Stew (reduce the lentils and add extra tofu or tempeh) with zucchini, celery, and tomatoes in vegetable broth
(~450 calories, 40g protein)
Chia Pudding with unsweetened almond milk, chia seeds, and 1 scoop of plant-based protein powder, topped with a few berries
(~300 calories, 30g protein)

(~350 calories, 30g protein)
Chickpea Salad (use ½ cup chickpeas, tofu, cucumber, red onion, and avocado)

Vegan Chili with kidney beans (use ¼ cup) and black beans, add tofu or tempeh for extra protein
(~450 calories, 40g protein)
Tofu Stir-Fry with broccoli, snap peas, bell peppers, and a low-sugar soy sauce (omit rice to keep carbs low)
(~400 calories, 35g protein)
Tempeh and Spinach Salad with avocado, cucumber, and tahini dressing (no added carbs)
(~450 calories, 40g protein)
Peanut Butter Protein Smoothie with 1 scoop plant-based protein powder, almond milk, spinach, peanut butter, and chia seeds
(~350 calories, 30g protein)
Vegan Tempeh Wrap (using lettuce or a low-carb tortilla) with avocado, cucumber, mixed greens, and a low-carb dressing
(~400 calories, 35g protein)
Cauliflower and Chickpea Curry (use 1/4 cup chickpeas, extra cauliflower, and add tempeh or tofu for protein)
(~450 calories, 40g protein)
Vegan Protein Smoothie with 1 scoop protein powder, unsweetened almond milk, frozen berries, and flax seeds
(~300 calories, 30g protein)
Vegan Buddha Bowl (with ¼ cup chickpeas, tempeh, avocado, kale, and a small amount of quinoa)

Stuffed Bell Peppers with quinoa, tempeh, black beans (small amount), and avocado

Kind of feel like this thread is going around in circles now.

It's definitely going around in circles.

To be honest Op I am gobsmacked at your ignorance about how a drug that you are choosing to inject into your body actually works.

@mollymazda MJ does make you feel fuller! It delays gastric emptying!

B2B25 · 17/01/2025 22:37

What do you use to track calorie intake OP? I use Nutracheck but there's also MyFitnessPal.. it's definitely worth tracking them, so often we have a dash of milk here and a dash there. It all adds up!

well thank you for that. i use another brand (ive lost nearly 5 stone) and i don't recall the information telling me it made me feel fuller, so i appreciate this information and i shall change my point of view moving forwards.

I use nutracheck, along with a balanced diet and a calorie deficit of 3500 a week and i exercise 3 times a week plus i get in 10,000 steps a day. I've cearly been doing it wrong all this time

Thanks. It’s useful to hear that those experiencing significant weight loss in the first month are probably due to dietary changes rather than from mounjaro.
My diet isn’t terrible in the first place, but it’s very carb heavy so I’m trying to tackle that. I don’t really drink (maybe a couple of glasses of wine per month) and I don’t eat meat or fish.
I also don’t understand the ‘food noise’ thing. What is that? Does that means constantly thinking about food? If so, I didn’t have that in the first place.
However I am obese with at least three stone to lose so I’m guessing I was hoping for a miracle!

All weight loss on MJ are from calorie deficit & exercise. MJ doesn't itself make you lose weight- it creates conditions which encourage & support you to eat a lot less.

i am.. and you are still refusing to listen.. report me all you like, makes a lot of sense now to be honest...

i will say it until the cows some home... you need to be in calorie deficit to lose weight, doesn't matter what chemicals you put in your body, you still have to take some personal responsibility and at least TRY.. and give it more than 3 weeks before complaining that its not working

I haven’t reported you.

but you’re still here, shouting at me.

I don’t track my calories as I eat pretty much the same every day. I’m a really boring eater! I don’t eat out, don’t go to the pub etc. the only thing that might change what I eat is if I’m away for work.

you are joking? I'm a year down the line, and i know the calorie content of just about every morsel of food that goes in my mouth... you've only been dieting for what? 3 weeks? 4 maybe...

i think we all know where your weight gain has come from? you litterally have bought this drug with no clue about what it does or how it works, and you've jabbed yourself with it.. cracked on and now wonder why you haven't lost weight?

B2B25 · 17/01/2025 23:10

I'd still recommend it even if you think you're 100% positive of what you're consuming. There is a reason you've gained weight...

Don't give up hope yet, move up to the next dose and see how you feel!

I found this video incredibly helpful to understand more about what MJ does to various parts of the body. Really recommend a watch.

I’m not joking. If you eat the same thing every day and you know the calorific content of it, why do you need to track it? You’d just be writing the same thing, 7 days a week.
I’ve dieted all my adult life. 30 plus years of knowing what everything is ‘worth’.

I think i am helping... we are overweight because we eat too many calories.. this is a fact. you have dieted all your adult life, yet are still overweight.. so clearly something has gone wrong.

you are litterally refusing to see it!

😂😂. I am right! and poster after poster after poster has said exactly the same as me.

mollymazda · 17/01/2025 23:23

i'll tell you what.... your injection is not working. you wasted your however much money you spent on it. Even waiting it out like others have suggested until you are on a higher does, i suspect even then it won't work. But by all means message me if it does and i'll make a public apology.

i suspect with your attitude, if you change to a different brand, that too will not work!

well done on admitting you need to change, its the first step in your journey, but i'm afraid its not a diet, its a lifestyle change. to lose weight we NEED to eat less calories, and it won't hurt to exercise a little, but its not important!

Because I lose weight from calorie deprivation (weight watchers, slimming world), end up living on salad and beans on toast, get anaemia and vitamin deficiencies, fall off the unsustainable diet plan, pile back on weight and so the cycle goes around. My great hope for MJ was that it could provide a different experience for me. Change how my body processes the food I eat (you know, all that stuff about GLP-1 receptors) and maybe make me more likely to find a long term way to exist that wasn’t either starvation and salad or obesity.
If the thing you seem to be fixated on that I can’t see is that I lack the willpower to severely restrict my food intake, believe me I know it.
