November β€˜24 starters thread 6 - The one where it’s still January but we keep losing πŸ’ͺ🏻

Mounjaropen · 17/01/2025 08:33

Welcome to thread 6 friends old and new! Feel free to lurk or post, absolutely no judgement here, just support and encouragement as we traverse into 2025 with new bodies and new mindsets πŸ₯°

I’m on W11D5 and on my second 5mg pen
F in her early 50’s
H 5’ 5”
SW 13st 11lb
CW 12st 2.2lb
GW 10st (maybe 9st 7lb if I don’t look too saggy!)
Total loss so far 23lbs

Recommend the Shotsy app to monitor MJ in my system and pleasing graphs to look at…plus the MeThreeSixty body scan app to monitor inch loss for the weeks where weight loss is slow but you might have lost body fat etc. Both are free.

Feel free to swap recipes, tips for side effects and we love a beauty/fitness/style chat too.

Happy Friday!

@Buttons0522 normal BMI in 10 weeks sounds phenomenal! Well done. How much have you lost?

Thank you! I’ve lost around 13kg - I had just hit 30 BMI so just qualified but it’s been a life changer. I feel so much better for it.

I've a family birthday party to go to on Saturday, and as I'm still in-between my top weight and old "steady" weight I've picked up a January sales dress. Have been trying to avoid buying clothes while I'm at this stage, but I have to admit it's nice to have a new frock even if I'm planning to keep shrinking out of it.

Really dreading the day when I need to come off mj. I am so enjoying just not having to think about weighing everything and panicking if I go out where I can't calorie count every item. When I last "got myself together" with intense regular exercise and measured/gym-bunny nutrition, It made for a big cognitive overhead that made me feel like I had to be "perfect" - which ultimately made it unsustainable for me. This feels psychologically healthier. I really appreciate it.

I think you need to consider what 'normal' looks like for slim people. Not Victoria Beckham-style restricted eating for every single meal, but normal slim beings who allow themselves the odd day when you eat what you fancy but offset that against their calorie/exercise intake for the week. I think a lot of us here have no 'stop' sign. Want a biscuit? Might as well have a packet. And a packet of crisps as a chaser followed by a full-fat coke and so we repeat everything having forgotten how being slimmer has made us feel. No one is perfect, you just have to be the best and most mindful version of yourself.

Hope the party is fun - I'm looking forward to lunch in my new cream knit dress in Size M tomorrow πŸ˜€

Checking in! Thanks for the new thread @Mounjaropen . I'm going up to 5mg tonight. Food noise suppression isn't great but I am still getting full much faster so that's something.

I've ordered what is said to be a miraculous retinol eye cream from a Korean brand - will report back

ooh - let us know how you get on. My go-to for eyes are day NIOD Fractionating eye contour serum (not cheap but effective) and nighttime Strivectin Peptight eye serums (ditto)

Thanks for the new thread @Mounjaropen !

congratulations @SerenePeer - that’s a great milestone to hit!! I’m 6 pounds away from overweight, so hopefully I’ll join you there soon

I've had an awful 24hours - vomiting, nausea and all the other fun gastro discomfort. I’ve also spent most of it sleeping… considering I’ve had very little by way of side effects (other than when I self-sabotage with food…oooops) I’m hoping this is just a bug and will clear out of my system soon. It can’t be caused by what I ate, unless my body is revolting (in so many ways….) against protein and vegetables

Has anyone else noticed the recent influx of threads started by posters who want to go on WLI but are well below the prescribing criteria? I do sort of see where they’re coming from when they argue that we would be able to continue using the pens once we are safely in the β€˜normal’ BMI category so why can’t they… but even as a user of Mounjaro I wouldn’t suggest it as a quick fix for losing a few vanity pounds. I would also imagine it wouldn’t be sustainable - I’m pretty sure if I’d stopped taking Mounjaro after the first few weeks/month the pounds I’d lost would’ve found me again very quickly! Given the cost involved, even for just one pen, I can’t see it being a financially effective way of non-obese people losing a small amount of weight either. But maybe that’s just me.

Hope you feel better soon.

Not really checked out the other WLI threads tbh but I guess it's natural to want a 'quick fix'. I personally wouldn't try it but each to their own....

Also checking in - can’t believe we’re already on the 6th thread! Thanks @Mounjaropen for setting it up.

W9D7
Start weight: 12 st 7 (BMI 32)
Current weight: 11 st 2 (BMI 28.5)
Target 1: 9 st 10 (BMI 24.9)
Total loss: 19 lbs

I’m so close to a lot of milestones - losing 20lbs, being halfway there, getting into the 10s. I am however going away for a boozy weekend with friends and delaying my jab from today to Sunday when I get back. I can’t be good all the time!

Well done! And have a lovely weekend.

11th dose taken last night and I’m teetering on normal BMI - wahoo! Was up late last night reading threads about maintenance and researching, feels like a bit of a minefield especially as I have a 10mg pen unopened for use in a couple of weeks as I have just ordered everytime medexpress has told me to! I need to think of a game plan with providers etc. else from what I’m reading I might end up not being accepted. Feels stressful!

I think it's an evolving market and the providers will realise everyone will emigrate to not the cheapest provider, but the one who makes it the easiest with a consistent programme that makes sense.

Thanks for the new thread @Mounjaropen We do fill them up quickly!

I'm the same as @JasonTindallsTan and have lost my way since Christmas. I've scraped half a kilo loss this week. I went for a run for the first time forever last night. And it was actually quite enjoyable. Need to get back into the habit.

I'm very interested in the LED mask results. I might ask for vouchers for next birthday and Christmas and save up for one if they are good. Fingers crossed by then I will be happily maintaining my target weight.

Well done to everyone of their progress. This thread is so useful. I'm learning loads as we go along and feeling that I'm not alone.

Hope everyone who isn't feeling well bounces back soon.

Keep going! I've done my incline walk and dog walk today - I'll be doing my 41min Scheduled pvolve class later before spray tanning. Having a big salad lunch and DH can frankly fend for himself as DD is out with friends.

Thanks for the new thread @Mounjaropen

Well my itchy thighed friends I'm sorry to report that using an insulin syringe for it's longer needle hasn't prevented the injection site reaction 😩 having said that as I inject at an angle with syringe rather than perpendicular with a pen needle the depth won't have been vastly different so I may still get some long pen needles to try.

Eurax, hydrocortisone & antihistamine is my only plan now unless anyone has any other suggestions?🀞

You poor thing. I've no suggestions I'm afraid. Sounds really annoying.

Morning all. Reporting for duty. It’s nice to read about everyone’s progress, and I guess these stalling blips are to be expected every so often. Sometimes they are inexplicable. I have not managed to transition over to OUSHK. Found it difficult to get a response and then I was offered 2.5 mg like I’m a new starter….So I’m still with the costly Asda Pharmacy and I fear now I’m just at top of healthy BMI range my options to make a switch of provider may be ever more limited.
I found that panorama doc the other night super interesting. I used to have a bit of joint arthritis in my foot but that’s completely resolved for now. I’m wondering if my losing two stone is the factor or whether there’s less inflammation in my body now I’m not overeating all the wrong foods. Who knoes?
Still super scared of coming off MJ the fear of relapse is uppermost for me…eek!

Dreamqueen · 17/01/2025 12:01

Thank you @Mounjaropen for new thread.

I'm also one of the ones who's slightly lost their way this past couple of weeks. Did a 7.5 dose on Monday and have felt so hungry since then. I'm out of the country for the next few weeks and have only brought enough MJ for a 5 weekly dose. Did the 7.5 one to give me a boost at the beginning of holiday eating but it seems to have backfired.

IndigoHexagon · 17/01/2025 12:13

Gosh, us November starters are a chatty bunch aren’t we? Thanks for the new thread @Mounjaropen

so … W12 D7 check in (jab due tonight!)

SW:108.9kg
CW: 91.75kg
Loss on MJ: 17.15kg
GW: 68kg (I’m 172cm tall - 5” 7.75!)

Current dose: 5mg

I’ve lost 8” off my waist as of measuring last week.

I’ve been 100% consistent with my hydration since I started my weight loss mission on 30th September (4 weeks before starting MJ). I found a research article that stated that we need 35ml of water for every kilo of body weight for our bodies to have enough water to be at its most efficient, so I’ve been drinking that as a minimum every day since. I’ve also completely stopped drinking my previous must have : Diet Coke, which I think is down to MJ too!

I’ve been gradually increasing my step goal too and I’m finally back at my weightlifting gym as of last week (used to be a CrossFitter but I’m not ready for that yet!). I’d forgotten how much I loved throwing around a heavy barbell! Lol

I unpacked some clothes that had got too small thinking I’d be able to get into them now and half off them are actually already too baggy! No scale victories AND scale victories cheering up my January blues!

I’m feeling good - hope it’s going well for everyone else too!

Thanks for the new thread @Mounjaropen and well done @SerenePeer and @Buttons0522, you skinny bitches πŸ˜‚

@Arglefraster are there other things that you regularly react to? My skin takes any opportunity to show me what a sensitive soul it is but thankfully it's been ok with the jabs so far. It reacts like hell to insect bites, so itchy solidarity.

Weighing in for the new thread:
W10D7
SW: 19st 9lbs
CW:17st 10lbs
1st GW: 17st 13lbs
2nd GW 15st 4lbs
TL: 1st 13lb

Nearly, but not quite a two stones lost. I had some great NSV today though. My measurements are definitely showing improvement this month - two inches off my waist was a highlight.

I'm checking my blood sugars on jab day too and today's was officially just back into the normal range and not pre diabetic. I'm not getting excited yet that I've actually reversed it, but that's a promising sign.

I'm sticking with 5mg for my third pen as suppression already feels a bit high. The rate of loss feels good but I'm struggling to eat much, which doesn't feel helpful for building healthy new habits.

evilharpy · 17/01/2025 12:44

MsRumpole · 17/01/2025 09:21

I agree, but I think the problem is using BMI as a measure for this stuff because it's such a blunt tool. I'm aiming for a weight that puts me just below obese on the advice of doctors who have consistently told me to ignore BMI because my shape and frame (small waisted, tall, broad, very well suited to weights and muscle building) mean that the "normal" range isn't right for me. So I think a lot of people in the slightly overweight range are probably pretty much where they need to be, really, and shouldn't be worrying too much.

I have always weighed heavy for my size. At a BMI of 25 I am a comfortable size 10 and can wear an 8 in some shops. I think it may be because I have lipodema and carry a lot of weight in my legs that doesn't shift with weight loss - everywhere else just keeps getting smaller. If I go too far below this I start to look a bit less healthy and too pear shaped.

Been quite a few years since I was below that though.

jay55 · 17/01/2025 12:48

Thanks for new thread.
Woohooo to the no longer obese.

The burps are killing me. Previously I had them but they were mild, this week they're so toxic. But zero food noise and it's Friday so that's amazing.

Buying clothes at in between sizes is such a dilemma. I'm making sure I get a few things so I can enjoy being a smaller size.

murraymcgill · 17/01/2025 14:27

Oooh that's interesting re hydration levels @indigohexagon - I have to really work on my hydration, especially as I read that mj suppresses thirst signals too.

Thanks for new thread …..

Week 8 weigh in today and lost 3lb this week, very happy with that, I do have a lot of weight to lose though….started at 28 stone 1 lb, it’s so hard to even type that!!!

So my total loss is 25 1/2lb and I’m thrilled because I have also lost inches off most areas of my body, 6 inches off my waist 😱

I have my 5th dose of my 5mg pen left for next week, and think I’m going to order 5mg again on Tuesday, it’s suiting me and I’m feeling great on it.

I have a desk job but have again been out for 30 + min walks this week again.

I keep saying this but this medication has changed and probably saved my life.

Amazing, another thread and thanks Mounjaropen again. I've to use my 5mg pen to get about 6 or 6.5mg - I figure I do the normal full dose then wipe, change needles and inject 15 clicks or so into the other leg? Can't quite decide if that's right and have tried googling πŸ€”
