I also thought you'd find this amusing. At the tapas meal yesterday at our place, one of the (female) friends who was coming is overweight, and has struggled for years with this, affecting her health.

So long story short, this friend comes in for the meal, I immediately notice she's so much thinner and looks amazing! I haven't seen her for months at this point. We're in the kitchen preparing snacks, I look at her she looks at me, we chat about this and that. Eventually, I tell her you look great, and she says oh you mean I've lost weight? yes I have. Anyway we look at each other again, smile, and I tell her you know I'm on MJ and she says 'of course, me too! It's great I've been on it for months'

she had a lot of good tips in terms of maintenance too. I just found the whole thing really amusing, I predict these medications (unless something really bad comes up wtih them god forbid) will soon be something very very widespread.

What did she recommend with regards to maintenance?
My decision was made when I heard a larger friend had gone on it. I didn't want to be left as the fat one 🙈🤣
My uncle who is morbidly obese was raving about it and telling me to go on it and I thought goodness I must look large if he thinks I should go on it 🤣
Photos from Christmas confirm I should definitely be on it! I can't wait in a few months time to enjoy rather avoid photos!

Mounjarry · 13/01/2025 10:01

After feeling rough AF over the weekend touch wood I feel great today! Seem to have more energy than usual, food noise gone and had some breakfast and was able to stop when full instead of feeling the urge to finish it. Will see how it goes but feeling like hopefully onwards and upwards now! Will do the next dose Friday and see how that goes.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 13/01/2025 10:13

@Mounjarry I had a rough first weekend too but also had my period (irregular and peri so no idea if MJ brought it in) so not sure mix of symptoms. Will be interesting to see next jab. I'm a Friday jabber too.

KrankySchwester · 13/01/2025 10:16

2nd injection this morning on the 2.5 dose.

I lost 8.6lb last week but still have so much to go. Apart from horrible nausea one night and ongoing constipation (which is normal for me anyway) week one was side effect free.

This morning though I feel like I’ve hit a brick wall. I have absolutely no energy. And to make matters worse, some bugger has eaten the last banana in the house that was to have been my breakfast.

unicornsaremagical · 13/01/2025 10:33

slightly devastated myself, sneaky weigh in after only two days but all week doing exercise and only 1000calories a day and i’ve somehow gained 2lb.

stilllovingmysleep · 13/01/2025 10:54

@Mounjarry really glad to hear you're feeling well today! hope it lasts. My (very experienced) GP said the side effects wear off. She feels it's a really safe & good medication & she said in all the people that are taking it in her surgery, the vast majority do well on it, side effects wear off, and she said she hasn't seen anyone so far with pancreatitis (that's the side effect I worry about more)

@tinyemmy my friend who's been on it for a while said her friend is now taking it 1 week on 1 week off. She said she has a lot to tell me about maintenance - other ideas too - but at the moment she's still in the weight loss phase, and as for me, as I've just started (3 days ago) I want to gradually observe how this medication affects me and think about maintenance step by step. I do agree that's the number one concern - at least for me - as the worst thing for all of us would be to go back to yo-yo dieting. I'm hoping within this thread we can learn more on mainenance as the months pass.

And is there any maintenance - focused thread? If so I think I'll watch it & lurk :)

Yes! There is a maintenance thread that I've read a bit on. I do not want to lose all this weight to put it back on again.
I think one option is to stay on medication but not sure I can afford to and I think the most important thing is to change habits but one important side effect for me is the food noise not being there so I may be one of those that just needs to stay on medication going forward. We shall see. As you say first step is to lose the weight so I don't need to worry about maintenance for many months yet!

sociallydistained · 13/01/2025 11:10

I'm worried about maintenance because the only reason I'm not food obsessed is this medication. I know all about nutrition and I'm actually able to apply it on this drug. Before, my addiction took over everything!
I can't afford to stay on the drug long term either unless it becomes more affordable so ir is a worry. It seems to help my brain big time I feel able to cope with things better!

Jins · 13/01/2025 11:39

Me too @unicornsaremagical. A pound up on the second day. Try doing a weekly average

unicornsaremagical · 13/01/2025 11:45

@Jins very disheartening isn’t it? i’ve just ordered a treadmill and steps machine in hopes of being even more active, ive been doing 45/60minutes of exercise a day and not exceeding 1000 calories. Weight loss is one massive confusion for me

stilllovingmysleep · 13/01/2025 11:54

@tinyemmy my question though is, how do we stay on medication (if that's the right thing, even if on and off) if BMI is within normal range ?

ticketiboo · 13/01/2025 11:58

Hello, may I join? I ordered my first dose on Friday and it arrived the next day, so I did my first injection on Saturday night. I’d love to lose a couple of stone, maybe even more. Have just had to start buying a size 18 and would like to get back to 14/16 territory, as I just felt better than - I feel quite cumbersome. Anyway. I wanted to thank everyone for sharing as it’s been so helpful in deciding to try this. I definitely am not as hungry as usual, and have a vaguely unpleasant metallic taste in my mouth when I do eat. Very early days. Can’t wait to be a few weeks in and hopefully start feeling the effects.

Cabinfever20 · 13/01/2025 12:07

I think I've shot myself in the foot ordering my Mounjaro 2.5mg back in November. I then decided not to start it until after a cruise in December and then Christmas, so I actually took my first dose on 2 January and second on 9 January. I've just tried to order a 5mg pen and Med Express won't let me go up as my last order was 8 weeks ago, and will only supply another 2.5mg pen. I don't know what to do now, as I guess other pharmacies will be the same because of the 8 week gap, and only let me start on the 2.5mg dose. Has anyone else had this problem? At the moment after 2 doses I feel strong enough to go on with the 2.5mg pen next month, but who knows what Feb will bring, and that dose might not be working any more.

Randomusernameforcode · 13/01/2025 12:13

Week 2 done for me on 2.5. I will do my third jab this evening.
Suppression for me is non existent today. First week it wore off by Sunday.

I've been very lucky and have had zero side effects this week. I've found that a teaspoon of flaxseed on my breakfast has stopped me struggling to go to the toilet.

I lost 3.1lb in week one and 2lb week two.
I won't lie, I'd love it to be more but I've always been a fairly slow looser when I've dieted before so it's not a total shock. I guess it just makes me feel a bit envious when I read other people's big losses each week. Need to remind myself not to compare and just trust the process!

I've ordered my next pen and have gone for 5mg. Not sure yet if I'll actually go up to that dosage but, for the same price it made sense to have the option.

I find I put on a pound or two the day after injecting. No idea why, almost like water retention. Disappears the following day.

Same here. I absolutely understand how to do this without MJ and I've done it pretty successfully a number of times over the years with WW or SW but my problem comes after that 3 or 6 month point when the novelty has worn off, my willpower is no more, I fall off the wagon and don't get back on for years. I'm hoping that seeing as I am so fat now, and it's going to take me at least a year to get to where I need to be, the longevity of the new habits will mean I've fundamentally changed the way and what I eat as opposed to it always being a temporary thing. Anyway, I'll worry about that this time next year 😀

BestDIL · 13/01/2025 13:18

Just ordered MJ and due tomorrow. Have been on Orlistat for a year prescribed by GP but TBH, it's not really worked for me. Lost 2st but stopped in Autumn and 1st snuck back on so decided its time for action. I'm 60 in July and really want to look and feel better than I do at the moment. Realistically, if I really work at this, how long can I expect to have to use MJ before target? 6months, 1 year, 2 years??

SW 98kg
TW 76kg

Can I ask whether it is best to jab in the morning or evening? Anyone have any views on this? TIA x

themounjaromum · 13/01/2025 13:29

Hi everyone, can I join in too? I started my first dose of Mounjaro last Thursday. Was hoping to start a bit earlier but delays with Mounjaro over new year meant it took a while to arrive. It actually worked out well though because I'm working from home Thursday and Friday then uts the weekend, so not in the office for any initial bad side effects.

I was so nervous to start but after seeing so many stories on tiktok and insta from other people, it seems to tick so many boxes. I have nearly 9 stone to lose and despite trying so many diets I always have this voice in my head thinking about food. I end up having 1 bad day that turns into a week. I gain really quickly and I'm lucky if I lose 1lb a week after being really strict with myself. I've found those 1 lb loses take so long to add up to anything significant and then a weekend away where I relax my diet seems to undo everything.

So far I've not been too poorly on it, jist a headache on and off and constipation. This eased off by last night, so I'm feeling much better today. The suppression is there but not too high, its enough to let me get my 1200 ish calories in but also stops me over eating which is amazing. Usually I'm looking for treats in the evening, nibbling while cooking etc. But those thoughts have stopped.

I am a daily weigher as it helps me stay focused and so far in the last 4 days I've dropped nearly 3lbs, this did stick at yhe start for a while but I think it was because I was so constipated! It's also period week, so I'm not sure how that will effect the things.

I'm seeing lots of horror stories of people having bad side effects when going up to 5ml, so nervous to change my dose.

If anyone is looking for a discount code mine in J1RVQYN, which gives £40 off your first order with medexpress and it gives me credit too. I used a code from someone on here for my first order so thank you very much. The budget is really stretched for me to afford this each month so every little helps!

Changingnameagain · 13/01/2025 13:41

Day 4 of Week 2 and I'm another 1lb down. So that's 13lb in under 2 weeks.
I'm getting anxious about re ordering. I started ordering online with Zava as it was cheapest with a code according to the code costs website but then it said I have to be in to receive the parcel and people are only in one day during the working week at home. And the other day my mum is at my house with my toddler and I m not telling her about MJ because I know she will be very vehemently anti it. She is an obsessive health nut.
Any suggestions of providers- other than Asda- who you can collect in a store from and have offers?!

themounjaromum · 13/01/2025 13:47

I was the same so got delivered to a post pickup place in town @Changingnameagain. I was worried about being out and missing delivery. Maybe there is something similar near you? I ordered with medexpress and they delivered with royalmail 24 hour, I also got an email to arrange a delivery to another day on teh actual day of delivery.

I think there are maintenance plans now that allow you to stay on it

PrimalLass · 13/01/2025 15:33

Has anyone else moved to MJ from WG and find MJ so much harder to inject? Twice the needle has totally bent and I've not got a full dose of one of the four as the plunger isn't at the mark.

My weight on the scale can fluctuate 4-5lb day to day - water retention etc can make a big difference, so you haven't 'gained' 2lb in two days (it's not even possible really - you'd need to eat thousands and thousands of calories above your norm to do it), it's just normal fluctuation! Try doing it each day (or just once a week) to see a downward trend :)

Reginaphalangeeeee · 13/01/2025 16:16

Hi all, just signed up for SheMed and desperate to get started ASAP. Where do you get your prescription from?
