Hello! Is anyone starting or recently started with Shemed? I think there's a few of us on the boards. I started posting on a different thread when I was looking into MJ but thought it would be nice for us to have somewhere to share our experiences of the journey!

I'm Fatsia. My bmi is huge (22 stone with 11 stone to lose ideally. I'd be happy with less!). I put on a lot of weight after having kids and have tried all the usual things to lose it each time gaining more. We don't have a high income so it's taken some thinking before getting to this place and I'm really hopeful reading others stories of where this can lead. I. Really do want to experience the world in a slimmer body again.

I did the blood test today - stressed out this morning at the app was overloaded with so many starting on 2nd of Jan but the actual experience was great. I'm a bit needle phobic so it was great to have the little device to do the test.

Love to hear from any others interested in sharing experiences.

(Anyone wanting to debate SheMed as a company there are other threads where that is happening)

@CleverKhakiBear that's weird that some of the results didn't come in, hopefully you can extract them or the GP might be able to as they'll be forwarded on.

@MummySharkDooDoo I had an email asking me to update my GP details but they were already on there so I replied to say it was and was approved super quick after that.

MummySharkDooDoo · 16/01/2025 21:06

Thanks @Shmallow hope you're feeling well after your first dose!

CleverKhakiBear · 16/01/2025 21:08

@Shmallow I know right! I am happy that the results I've got are within normal range but I did think I'd have more results than just liver and diabetes.

The now shows that it's under review so just waiting now to see if I will be approved xx

Mazd323 · 16/01/2025 21:10

Panicking now I'm not going to get approved. Are there many people who don't get approved?

Reginaphalangeeeee · 16/01/2025 21:13

CleverKhakiBear · 16/01/2025 19:44

Okay so I finally have my blood results back, mine is only for HbA1c & GGT, I thought there would be results for thyroid and cholesterol 🤷🏽‍♀️

My hb1ac is is normal range and ggt is low, I hope this won't affect approval as my bmi is 47.3

Hey I am waiting for blood results and it's occupying my every thought right now. So worried about being turned down.

My BMI is 46.2 (just worked it out) and have a scary 50KG to loose to just reach BMI 29
It doesn't feel achievable but is a glimmer of hope for the first time.

Don't panic lovely, if they received your bloods today then I'd give it until next week to hear back, as once they have your bloods the app says it takes 4 business days to process some have had theirs earlier xx

Mazd323 · 16/01/2025 21:18

Thank you @CleverKhakiBear 😊

CleverKhakiBear · 16/01/2025 21:20

@Reginaphalangeeeee I've got roughly the same amount to lose, but once approved we just take it one day at a time. The number is daunting but also this is a wellness journey 🥰🥰

ForPeachSake · 16/01/2025 21:45

Hi all I’ve been lurking for a while…got my blood test kit last week and sent it back Monday, they received it Tuesday and got my results this afternoon and I have just had the payment taken this evening so hopefully will get my pen soon. I am away this weekend unfortunately so may miss the post to jab at the weekend but looking forward to starting!

MojoJojo71 · 16/01/2025 22:23

@Reginaphalangeeeee i did my test first thing Monday morning and they received it Tuesday. They called me because I’d ticked yes to heart arythmia because I had some tests a couple of years ago due to recurrent palpitations but they were fully investigated and turned out to be benign and related to menopause. I’ve had an email this evening to say I can expect delivery on my prescription tomorrow!

@annathomps I had 30% in the red (cholesterol and AST) but it didn’t stop them accepting me. I’m hoping to see a positive effect on these markers at my 6 month check. I’ve got a terrible family history of heart disease so really need to get the cholesterol down

fallenover · 17/01/2025 07:45

Wednesday 15 Jan - sent in my bloods - I was impressed how easy and painless it was to fill the small tube! Now playing the waiting game!

OneAzureMaker · 17/01/2025 08:19

How is everyone doing?
2nd dose for me today and a check in. All went smoothly, I did the injection just before checking in.

4.2kg down 😱

I have to say I'm really shocked, I have definitely eaten less, but truly not that much less. Normally if I lose a good amount at the start of a diet it feels more like water and there are many trips to the loo, but that hasn't been the case.

CleverKhakiBear · 17/01/2025 08:24

@fallenover it's so easy isn't it! Such a clever little device xx

@OneAzureMaker that's an amazing loss well done!

ploot · 17/01/2025 08:30

Ok I'm finally doing the first dose tonight.

I'll get home from work at 6ish, and we make tea for around 7ish.

Do I take it as soon as I get home, or am I better waiting until bedtime?

I don't wanna be poorly 😂

I’ve just taken my first dose so I’m not sure but most people seem to be ok that first day and feel more symptoms day 2 or 3. You could shift it to bed time if you suffered this week though.

Shmallow · 17/01/2025 09:11

Wow @OneAzureMaker that's amazing!

@ploot good luck for the first jab. I'm fine so far, touch wood, but I've just had breakfast so we'll see!

Mieliwood · 17/01/2025 09:41

Hey everyone, just joined mumsnet so I could post on here though I've been reading for the last two weeks!

Ordered blood test Monday, dispatched Tuesday and received Thursday. Sent back Thursday afternoon and they've received it! How cool is that Tasso kit though? Definitely need to be using those in hospital, I'm one that they can never get blood out of and even I was shocked when I looked down to see it was full! Even more so for kids that are apprehensive!

Now for me it's just a waiting game for them to review bloods and hopefully issue. Currently 106kg - but tall so seem to carry it well, but I am sick of feeling like crap and general aching. I put off going to the GP because the first thing I'm told, no matter what i go for, is lose weight and it will solve everything, either that or your depressed that's the problem, despite my mental health generally being in a good place. (I guess you will all know what i mean)

To get ready for all the potential changes I've been reading as much as I can. With it being better to reach a sensible calorie deficit, would it be better to eat higher calorie, high protein, fibre rich foods given that the volume of food will be an issue?

Best of luck with your journeys folks :)

Shmallow · 17/01/2025 10:03

Sounds like a good plan @Mieliwood! Totally agree with the Tasso kit, it's a bit revelatory.

The consideration of what I'm eating beyond just calories is one of the reasons I was quite drawn to this tbh. I need to up protein and fibre in my diet anyway. 'Traditional' diet programmes just see people actually eating really unhealthily in their quest for 'cheats' and actually I just don't want to cheat and eat crap, I want the brain space to be able to eat what's good for me. I think if it's true this shuts out the food noise and cravings for rubbish then it should be possible to live in a way that has felt so hard and impossible before. I'm not going to count calories for now, but will be avoiding anything too fatty and much in the way of refined carbs and will see how it goes. I'm locked in for the year regardless!

I dug out some NSV 'first goal' jeans earlier and couldn't even get them up my thighs 😂 brought home how much weight I've piled on in the last couple of years!

I definitely don't want to be eating my daily calories in chocolate and cake. (Although right now that sounds wonderful) i would rather fuel my body appropriately and be able to sustain it after the year. My downfall is not eating properly, my husband works away Monday to Friday and a house full of fussy kids once I've fed them three different meals I don't want to eat anything, so go to bed and eat all the things I know I shouldn't be binging on.

I have many of those jeans in the back of the wardrobe. I'll have to dig them out and start saving for a new wardrobe of clothes because currently live in leggings or pyjamas lol

CleverKhakiBear · 17/01/2025 11:25

Payment has been taken! Wahoo 💃🏽

How long did it take the app to update after this? I have the email saying prescription has been approved but the app still shows waiting for clinician to approve xx

I am on the same time frames as you as sent bloods back Wednesday and just waiting.

In the app it just says analysing bloods, could take up to 4 days. I've not had any other communication.
Have you?
This waiting is very hard. I am so worried about being turned down.

I have quiet a bit more than you to loose & only just have realisation of how much. Trying not to sooth worry with food as really need to take action now

Shmallow · 17/01/2025 11:33

yay @CleverKhakiBear !! App shouldn't take long at all I'm sure but even if it doesn't update, when you get the pen you can go into 'check in' to start your first call and then it'll update to say you've taken your first dose.

@Mieliwood I'm hoping vinted and the like will become our friends in the next couple of months!

Shmallow · 17/01/2025 11:34

Don't worry @Reginaphalangeeeee, the waiting is super hard but the blood tests aren't really meant for finding ways to turn people down, they're more to provide a baseline to measure against in a few months - and hopefully see improvements in levels that aren't great. Anecdotally, there's not much on the blood test side that will stop you from being accepted.

Bigknickers56 · 17/01/2025 11:38

I have been told my blood test is arriving today. I am a bit worried that no blood will come out of me as I always end up having nurses not being able to do it as I have "hidden veins" 🤷‍♀️. Do you actually have to try to find a vein?? Or is it something else like a finger prick?

Reginaphalangeeeee · 17/01/2025 11:41

Thank you @Shmallow
That is helpful to know.

Weight loss and being ready for it is funny on the psychology. Having a hopeful answer and hearing other people's experiences has made me face the scales.
I have avoided thinking about my weight, weighing myself or speak to anyone about it (head in the sand approach) for the last 3 years. This is mostly driven by shame which has only led to more weight and worry.

I think I am the heaviest person in the group and neglected myself that now I have started a process just finding hard waiting. 🫣
