Hello! Is anyone starting or recently started with Shemed? I think there's a few of us on the boards. I started posting on a different thread when I was looking into MJ but thought it would be nice for us to have somewhere to share our experiences of the journey!

I'm Fatsia. My bmi is huge (22 stone with 11 stone to lose ideally. I'd be happy with less!). I put on a lot of weight after having kids and have tried all the usual things to lose it each time gaining more. We don't have a high income so it's taken some thinking before getting to this place and I'm really hopeful reading others stories of where this can lead. I. Really do want to experience the world in a slimmer body again.

I did the blood test today - stressed out this morning at the app was overloaded with so many starting on 2nd of Jan but the actual experience was great. I'm a bit needle phobic so it was great to have the little device to do the test.

Love to hear from any others interested in sharing experiences.

(Anyone wanting to debate SheMed as a company there are other threads where that is happening)

Hello!

Been lurking for a while but thought I should do a post. I received my pen today with shemed, going to inject this afternoon. The process has been a little lengthy due to their influx of sign ups but straight forward (I signed up on December 26th). My blood tests came back ok apart from GGT which was very high and I’m kinda worried about it. I’m currently almost 19stone which is the heaviest I’ve ever been so excited to go on this journey! So nice to know that there’s others on this with me :)

Edited

Welcome lovely! That's fab news, let us know how you get on with symptoms xx

ugh I feel you it is SO frustrating waiting! At least once they are done it seems to be suuuuper swift and you'll be jabbing in no time!

Yesss fingers toes and everything crossed 🤞🏽 xx

Pandabananza · 16/01/2025 12:16

I've signed up and my blood test is on its way. Just wanted to see how you find the checking in weekly with them. There rules are quiet tight for checking in which is fine that's why is cheaper. Just wondered how it is, do you just check in every week when u do a new pen and weigh with someone? I know it says 3 week but do you just do every week so it's habit unless away.
Loving reading everyone's journeys I'm so ready for this nurvus and excited.

Shmallow · 16/01/2025 12:20

They don't need to see you inject but they do need to see you weigh, so you just connect to a proctor at a time that's convenient to you (they are available 24/7). You can still do it when you're away too, they told me it should be possible to connect anywhere with internet. They also said you can keep your pen at room temperature so it's fine to take it away. I'm going away for half term and will be flying with it in hand luggage, think you can get special medication cases and just chuck it through security like make up etc.

SassPot09 · 16/01/2025 12:38

Hey everyone!

Been following this post for a little while and finally bit the bullet and signed up this morning!

Looking forward to following your journeys x

RachCmomma · 16/01/2025 14:40

Hey
I've just signed up today, waiting for blood test. Feeling nervous but excited. Hope it works.

It seems like everyone has had good results?
Anyone have any tips or side effects to watch out for? xx

bertieallsort · 16/01/2025 15:29

Just got the message to say my blood test kit is on the way, I only signed up yesterday afternoon! Haven’t had any notifications from Royal Mail yet though.

xxCatCrazyxx · 16/01/2025 16:39

Welcome to all newbies!

1st Jab done today at lunchtime. I jabbed just before I went into the check-in. All went well and it’s seemingly straightforward and quick. I was so nervous all morning but I have no idea why. Went for the thigh, going to alternate sides each week but I think that works best for me.

I’ve just eaten even though I wasn’t ravenously hungry like I would be at this time, no idea if it’s just physiological at the moment. Definitely more burpy though! Feels great to just get started finally!

DIYMum · 16/01/2025 16:40

Wow there are quite a few of us now which is great. Being able to share experiences here is really reassuring.
I had my 2nd check-in/jab today and have lost 2lbs 😥 I’ve seen on other groups people losing 7-12lb in a week!
Given I’ve had little appetite and eating far less than usual I’m not sure what’s going on, but with other ‘diets’ I’d have probably been happy with 2lb loss so I’ll take it as a win. I’m viewing this as a marathon not a sprint.
Last time side effects kicked in on day 3 so hoping I’m building up some tolerance 😬. It seems to be a bit of a side effects lottery judging by everyone’s experiences.

MojoJojo71 · 16/01/2025 16:41

I’m approved! They called me earlier to discuss a few things in my medical questionnaire and then shortly after I got a message to say I’m all approved and first prescription on its way. Excited to get started now

FeverDreamer · 16/01/2025 17:28

Hello! I've also been lurking on this thread - keen to join as it seems really supportive & the added accountability would be great. I've signed up, had my blood test results back today & have been approved (35F, 100kg/BMI 35). High cholesterol, but looking OK on the thyroid, liver, and diabetes results which is a relief. MJ has already been dispatched & should arrive tomorrow (or maybe even today looking at the shipping map!). I'm thinking to start on Sunday evening to have maximum suppression on weekdays - I work from home a lot & this is when I snack the most. Also keen to still be able to enjoy some restaurant meals, which is more common for me on Fri/Sat.

I'm really keen to use my time on MJ to reshape my habits, getting into a healthier eating and exercising routine that I can maintain post-MJ. I'm really hoping I can be successful at this!

RachCmomma · 16/01/2025 18:33

Ahhh I'm so excited and so happy to have found this thread. How long roughly from getting my blood test kit to starting the injections do you guys reckon? X

RachCmomma · 16/01/2025 18:36

Could well be that you have shocked your body a little bit. Sure you'll get some big losses soon.
I'm going to try and do the fast 800 diet, hoping the injections will help me stick to it. Xx

Reginaphalangeeeee · 16/01/2025 18:41

@MojoJojo71
That's great news!!!
When did you do your blood tests and send?
Do most people get a call do you know or something specific in your history that you expected a call about?

Reginaphalangeeeee · 16/01/2025 18:45

@DIYMum
I I think from what I have read that it may depend on your starting weight and eating habits before but also at time of month (I loose 1-2 Kg by end of period) which must be water initially.
I am sure your loss will come

Shmallow · 16/01/2025 19:21

So, interesting, I jabbed this morning after the school run. I've been fairly normally hungry today but made good choices as don't want to risk inducing side effects unnecessarily. I've just had a bowl of soup and a bit of bread for dinner and I am SO FULL and feel like it must have started working? Such a lot to learn!

Hoping I've done this right to reply to you (only joined mumsnet today) but I've been following a few accounts on tiktok and people have said its best to eat regularly even if you're not hungry just so your body doesn't go into starvation mode which then can slow down weight loss. I'm sure this easier said than done if you're not hungry mind. But even small protein snacks should help
2lb is still great you're lighter than what you was last week!

Annathomps · 15/01/2025 22:37

How long after receiving your blood test results did you then get your approval?
I’ve just this minute had mine come through and 40% is in the red range!
Worried this will mean I won’t be accepted…

I think in the red is better? it gives something to improve against 🤷🏼‍♀️

CleverKhakiBear · 16/01/2025 19:44

Okay so I finally have my blood results back, mine is only for HbA1c & GGT, I thought there would be results for thyroid and cholesterol 🤷🏽‍♀️

My hb1ac is is normal range and ggt is low, I hope this won't affect approval as my bmi is 47.3

I had 40% red, 20% amber & 40% green, plus I'm on a stimulant medication.

Received my pen on Tuesday, first dose tomorrow :)

I just wanted to add a little summary of my journey so far for those thinking of signing up.

I ordered at the end of December, test kit arrived 6 Jan and I did the test on 8 Jan, being the day that I was home alone and could focus on it. The lady I spoke with was lovely, but not sure on the SheMed details, just how to test. Then I refreshed my app 1000 times an hour until Saturday, when I got my results and acceptance. Then I refreshed another 1000 times an hour looking for the tracking to be updated. The lovely pink box arrived while I was at work on Tuesday 14th and I prepared to take the first dose on Wednesday.

I wasn’t too impressed with the connection here. The QR code didn’t connect me to the right bit of the app and it took me a little while to realise that I had to “check in” and I was connected to an advisor before I knew it. She was lovely and talked me through setting up my pen.

However, at this point, she expected me to know what to do next and I had to ask about using the needle, holding the pen on while the twisty thing went back in and how to dispose of the needle. We got through it but I thought the guidance here was lacking.

Almost immediately, I felt a little light headed and had a little wobbly in my eyes. The burps started but not sulphuric. It wasn’t so bad, I ate lunch as normal and by dinner, supression was kicking in. I couldn’t eat my usual dinner. I logged these side effects. I thought it would be like the Zoe COVID app but it redirected me to the website. I was really cold last night.

Today, I have felt fairly normal, a bit tired maybe, continuing to count calories on MFP. I’ve only eaten 600 calories!!

I’m off to eat some more to try and get up to a sensible amount! Chocolate covered Brazil nuts, anyone?

If you like, I’ll give a little summary each week with my experience?

MummySharkDooDoo · 16/01/2025 20:15

Hello all hope you're all having a good week :)
I got my blood test results back on Tuesday and have been refreshing my app like crazy since then to see if I've been approved.
Cholesterol was in the red but everything else was green.
I have checked again this evening and when clicking on medication it says to check my emails and that a member of the clinician team will contact me to discuss my application.
Did anyone else have this?
I haven't received an email yet.
