Hello! Is anyone starting or recently started with Shemed? I think there's a few of us on the boards. I started posting on a different thread when I was looking into MJ but thought it would be nice for us to have somewhere to share our experiences of the journey!

I'm Fatsia. My bmi is huge (22 stone with 11 stone to lose ideally. I'd be happy with less!). I put on a lot of weight after having kids and have tried all the usual things to lose it each time gaining more. We don't have a high income so it's taken some thinking before getting to this place and I'm really hopeful reading others stories of where this can lead. I. Really do want to experience the world in a slimmer body again.

I did the blood test today - stressed out this morning at the app was overloaded with so many starting on 2nd of Jan but the actual experience was great. I'm a bit needle phobic so it was great to have the little device to do the test.

Love to hear from any others interested in sharing experiences.

(Anyone wanting to debate SheMed as a company there are other threads where that is happening)

Super easy process with the blood test, even if one of my cats did try and get in on the act, it have the women in office a laugh while I was trying to get my cat off me whilst waiting for my blood to fill the tube! I had no warmer in the box but thankfully didn’t prove to be an issue. Posted in the postbox straight after, it says last collection is 5. Just annoying to know it’s still sat there. I’m so relieved that part is done now. Looks like everyone is having a good experience so far in that respect.
Good luck to all the jabbers today! 🍀

Does anyone know if they tell your GP?

GP reluctant to help, and I'm not sure I want to advertise that I went about it without their help - obviously I would tell them if there was problems. I'm a bit embarrassed about the whole thing - shouldn't be, but had too many lectures along the lines of eat less, exercise more.

I believe so but not 100% sure. I did see my go back in December to talk about weight loss and mounjaro having been 12months pp at the time and she gave me the go ahead and said if I needed anything to just give a call. Might be good to drop SheMed support a message and see xx

I think they do - in amongst some of the information when they prescribe your pen, there is a letter to your GP which I'm assuming they send.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 09/01/2025 16:20

Hee hee @xxCatCrazyxx lovely your cat wants to support you. Well done getting it done.

Yes they do tell the Dr. I know as today I got a text from the surgery saying that prescribing privately is the pharmacies responsibilities and if they want a report from my GP, they'll have to pay for it....

However my GP rang the other day to arrange the blood test for fatigue/talk about if I'd broken myself and said she'd seen on the system I was doing the MJ clinical trial so I think she'd have said if there was a problem

My GP previously had been liken@FrozenTrees GP and very much move more/eat less but agreed to refer me to tier 3. I don't think she'll be any support but at least it's on the record.

@CleverKhakiBear Your GP sounds much more supportive!

That's one of the reasons I went with Medino.

They ask if you want your doctor informed, and I said no.

FrozenTrees · 09/01/2025 16:43

Many thanks for all the replies - going to hold off for now till financially more stable and go with Medino or similar.

Shmallow · 09/01/2025 17:12

I'm guessing it's not like our GPs can block it is it? I don't mind it going on my record but I won't be impressed if the surgery suddenly have something to say about it, given they gatekeep everything and it's impossible to extract even a modicum of healthcare from them.

DIYMum · 09/01/2025 17:12

Medication arrived today so I’ve taken the plunge and had my first dose.
Very impressed with Shemed so far - meds arrived in a box with a cooled pouch, sharps bin and a bag of meds to counteract potential side effects.
Was talked through doing the jab and felt well supported by their operative.
I’ve also fessed up to my DH - wasn’t going to tell him as I knew he’d disapprove, but feeling too guilty - he’s taken it quite well.
Will update with any side effects as and when ….😬

Shmallow · 09/01/2025 17:28

Good luck @DIYMum! Glad your oh was alright, though really everyone benefits in the long run when we're happier and healthier in ourselves so I'm sure he'll see the benefits.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 09/01/2025 17:40

@Shmallow That was my take. I wasnt asking the Dr's permission it was just going in my record. I'm aware I'm large enough I might be developing other problems so I'd like it on my reocrd so it's visible if I went to hospital/had other things prescribed.

@DIYMum well done 🎉 Congratulations s on the first dose. Did you get through on the call okay? It's sounding like it's a different system to their customer service! I'm doing mine tomorrow lunch time. Do update us if you have any side effects and let us know how it goes 😁.

Shmallow that's such a good point that everyone benefits. I felt guilty for ages about paying for this as we're a lowish income family and it does mean the kids won't get to do so much this year. But another poster really hit home responding to me a few months ago saying that long term my family would rather have me alive than dying early.... Which given my bmi is likely. And that hit home. Also for having a mum who can hopefully be a bit more mobile etc. If when j lose the weight I'm still struggling with mobility well look again but at least at a lower weight I could use a normal wheelchair!

I'm going to keep in mind your phrase "everyone benefits" as I go through this year.

OP posts:
Shmallow · 09/01/2025 17:48

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden that's exactly it, I'm sure your family aren't going to look back and feel they've missed out for a short year, but they will be grateful for having a mummy who valued herself enough to put her health first and make a good go of sticking around for them.

Apparently the original drugs are going to be out of patent in the next few years. And then the price is going to fall through the floor. It might prompt the NHS to prescribe it for life if there are deals to be struck.

On another note I'm interested to know what happens if we do go away. We can jab and presumably check in but won't have access to scales..

@Shmallow I think Ts and Cs were to do 3 out of 4 check ins so maybe that allows for it?

That’s a good point, also because you need to keep it refrigerated too. Depending on where you are going might be difficult.

We have Disneyland Paris booked for summer, but only 4 days so hopefully can work around it. But also usually go camping in the summer which will be more challenging, but hopefully it will be ok and can figure something out nearer the time.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 09/01/2025 17:58

I think it's okay for 30 days out of the fridge but I'm starting tomorrow so haven't looked that up properly. I wasn't sure if I'd keep it in the fridge or away in my bedroom!

Go Diymum 🥳 yes do keep us posted with how you feel. Fab that your OH took it well!

Just imagine this time next year we will all be much healthier and happier!

Shmallow · 09/01/2025 18:06

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden ahh that's good, perhaps if they approve me I'll ask on the first call.

As far as I understand you can get mini coolers and whack them through in hand luggage if needing to be kept cool. We will be in a hotel so hopefully they'd have a mini fridge anyway in there. I'm sure that would be ok, just wasn't sure how to verify weight without taking scales, which seems a bit excessive!

Rhigatoni · 09/01/2025 18:08

Did anybody do their blood test really early (like, pre-7am)?
I’ve received my test kit today and don’t remember seeing anything about testing times/days before I signed up. Because of my job, I’ll really struggle if I have to call them after they open at 9am and post it before midday 😬

Shmallow · 09/01/2025 18:10

@Rhigatoni yeah I'm pretty sure someone on here did it at 7am or so. You'd have to do it Monday now though because it needs to be posted Mon-Thurs to get to the lab while it's still viable.

Thank you! Monday’s fine - I can do it most days as long as I can do it early ☺️

DIYMum · 09/01/2025 18:38

Thanks for the support x
It was super easy and quick to get through to someone via the app when you click check-in.
@Shmallow - agree - looking forwards to a healthier, happier me 😁

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 09/01/2025 21:43

Yay for a healthier happier 2025!

This is such a great thing we're all doing. I'm jabbing tomorrow 😊.

Hope those of you waiting hear soon, and those of you watching the post!

It would be great to hear how those of you who have started are getting on - I let you know tomorrow how I get on 😊.

So lovely to get to "know" you all 😍.

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden let us know how the jabbing goes!!

I'm still refreshing the app/my emails/my pending bank transactions for any sign I'm accepted every 60 seconds which is exhausting!

It is indeed lovely having this little community x

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 09/01/2025 21:57

Hi everyone. I'm receiving my blood test tomorrow but going by what I read on here I thought I wouldn't be able to do it until Monday?
But I have received an email this evening to ask to consider doing the blood test on Saturday. I guess it makes sense as they should receive it on Monday then.
It also says I do not need to fast? Has anyone else had the same?
