Hello! Is anyone starting or recently started with Shemed? I think there's a few of us on the boards. I started posting on a different thread when I was looking into MJ but thought it would be nice for us to have somewhere to share our experiences of the journey!

I'm Fatsia. My bmi is huge (22 stone with 11 stone to lose ideally. I'd be happy with less!). I put on a lot of weight after having kids and have tried all the usual things to lose it each time gaining more. We don't have a high income so it's taken some thinking before getting to this place and I'm really hopeful reading others stories of where this can lead. I. Really do want to experience the world in a slimmer body again.

I did the blood test today - stressed out this morning at the app was overloaded with so many starting on 2nd of Jan but the actual experience was great. I'm a bit needle phobic so it was great to have the little device to do the test.

Love to hear from any others interested in sharing experiences.

(Anyone wanting to debate SheMed as a company there are other threads where that is happening)

I'm feeling mostly ok, no actual problems but I do feel a little windy. Also felt cold last night, but that could just be because it's bloody freezing out there.

I always feel cold on the day after I inject. I think a lot of people do.

Ah, that's nonsense.
I thought they were running a clinical trial, but they seem to be very slapdash!

They are describing it as a research study. It's at best a poorly conducted observational cohort study. They've already said that given demand they have extended the deadline for the "cheap" offer. That's not something you can do with a proper cohort study, you set your sample size up front, your primary outcomes are based on a power calculation that's based upon said sample size.

It's a good marketing campaign, and if it means that people will save money that's great.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 08/01/2025 10:20

Yes they are only claiming to be an observational study "This is a retrospective observational study that does not involve any randomisation, treatment or management change"

I was similarly curious!

@ploot I am still refreshing my inbox to see if there is any tracking info but I've got zilch lol. They are taking their sweet time!

FollyDear · 08/01/2025 10:22

When did you sign up @ploot? I've heard nothing from Royal Mail since ordering, the app has said shipped the whole time. I am so impatient 😂

CleverKhakiBear · 08/01/2025 10:26

@ploot Just as I posted that I haven't got anything from RM the email just came through now 🤭 my test kit will be delivered tomorrow too!

@FollyDear I registered with SheMed on 29th Dec xx

Shmallow · 08/01/2025 10:27

@FollyDear I ordered 29th, was told on chat last week it would be sent Monday for Tuesday delivery, but then got an email on Tuesday from Shemed saying it had been sent, then this morning an update from Royal Mail saying delivery is tomorrow. Inching ever closer!

Shmallow · 08/01/2025 10:28

@ploot @CleverKhakiBear we might all start together!

Shmallow · 08/01/2025 10:31

I'm not too worried about the whole formalisation of it being a trial, blind or not, randomised or not, or whether it's all just good marketing. I don't mind being locked in for a year because if I hit a good weight earlier they'll move to maintenance and perhaps can taper off, whereas other people are having to guess and do trial and error, from that I've seen. I'd rather it this way than scrabbling round every month for a money off code and having to guess what my next dose should be.

FollyDear · 08/01/2025 10:50

Thanks all, you seem to have ordered a few days before me so I might be waiting for a little while!

@Shmallow that was my logic too, it stresses me out to think I'd be going to a different provider with a code every time! And the check ins are a reassurance too.

This is it! I've seen a lot of negative posts on Reddit about SheMed but it's not from people that have actually tried it just people making their own assumptions which of course everyone has the right to. I have a lot of weight to lose and if it means being in a contract to get hands on support through my journey then so be it 😃

Shmallow · 08/01/2025 11:14

I just wonder where we'll be this time next year!

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 08/01/2025 12:01

@Shmallow yes that was my thinking completely. I need to lose the weight and want to do over a year regardless.

I personally don't like all the spamming codes/finding codes and trying to find the cheapest each month would stress me. As would having to decide on doses. I'm hyper researching /reading as it is and need not to have to think about more things.,,

From what I've read I might want to be on it for a few years at least (I'm over 20stons) to try and change the set point and not regain/body try to go back to 20stone. But I don't think people really know do they.

I'm happy to stay long term on a lower dose it's more implacations financially. I am hopeful that in a year when we're finished with our rate there will be more options out there or at least the path will be more obvious.

OP posts:
Shmallow · 08/01/2025 12:20

Yeah, I think it will come down in price over the next year, so hopefully when you get there there will be some better options beyond the initial 12 months.

I've got no idea how long it's all going to take, but I really hope I'm feeling and seeing a good difference in a year. Haven't been to a wedding in a long time but there's one coming up next year that it would be nice to shop without dread for!

tinyemmy · 08/01/2025 12:39

It's arrived and I've done it. Less than a minute wait, probably less than 30 seconds for someone to connect to do the jab.
I got it a bit wrong first and only did a partial dose - the pen plunger you wind up and then have to press it all the way to the bottom again. I'm glad there was someone to help.
I chatted briefly about what day and where to jab but she basically said it doesn't matter although she probably doesn't take it.
I felt a bit shaky but I think that was just me being anxious about what I'm doing and also i haven't told anyone, not even my husband.
Hopefully I don't get outed in a few weeks when. I'm on holiday with friends!
I was noticing yesterday what symptoms I had without the jab - indigestion, wind, headaches etc so I need to be careful not to think everything is jab related as I had a lot of issues before.
Sorry long post!

CleverKhakiBear · 08/01/2025 12:40

Has anyone thought about purchasing the My journey supplements from wellgard? They're apparently meant to help with symptoms, all the Mj users on tiktok are raving about it especially when it comes to the sulphur burps x

Shmallow · 08/01/2025 12:49

Good luck @tinyemmy! All the calls for the actual jabbing etc seem to be connecting super quick which is great. I guess they're reserving people for it.

Have been wondering about supplements @CleverKhakiBear, might look into them.

Hiya, I ordered on the 29th! X

ControlFreakThirskian · 08/01/2025 13:16

New to Mumsnet so not sure If I am replying or adding to the thread.....

I'm seriously thinking about signing up with Shemed but I am concerned about the Blood Test part as I have deep set veins and nurses often have trouble finding a vein. Can anyone explain the blood tests in detail?

TLMoo · 08/01/2025 13:20

@ControlFreakThirskian look up Tasso blood collection devices online, that's what you receive. Sticks on your upper arm and it's so gentle I didn't even think it had worked! Don't let the blood test stop you, I was the same but there are videos online on the Tasso devices that might put you at ease x

CleverKhakiBear · 08/01/2025 13:33

@tinyemmy yayyy well done! I've only told my husband and 2 sister about it but I plan to keep quiet too until I actually start to see a physical change in myself xx

I've just watched the videos now and it's put my mind at ease! What a clever little device, @ControlFreakThirskian I too struggle with my veins when it comes to blood tests xx

TLMoo · 08/01/2025 13:36

@CleverKhakiBear I was flabbergasted at how easy it was and how painless! Fabulous device I wish they used them more as I too have ridiculous hiding veins!

kittykarate · 08/01/2025 13:53

I also have veins that 'duck' so every blood test at the Drs is an adventure. The device they use is painless, so painless in fact that as it took a while to fill the vial so I could see it, I thought "shit, maybe I didn't push it hard enough"
