Welcome to the MJ journey @Tinydancer123 You're very welcome to post here and I'm sure people will offer good advice. However, most of us have been taking MJ since September and you might want to post on a newer January thread where you'll find people who are at the same stage as you. It really is invaluable support.

When I started I stocked up on OTC meds for all the common symptoms: travel sickness pills for potential nausea, omeprazole for heartburn, dulcolax and prunes for constipation, and immodium for diarrhea. So far I have only had to take omeprazole on a regular basis, and very ocassional travel sickness pills.

The standard protocol is to go up the doses every month: 2.5mg to 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, and 15mg. Some people need that to keep good appetite supression, others find the side effects too much and may remain on smaller doses.

Well done on Onederland @Bumblebeehum, that was my first milestone.

@Tinydancer123 1lb up is bad luck. Hopefully you will lose next week.

My next goal is -11lb to overweight

-41lb (total or a further -30lb) to healthy weight or -2 stone 13.

I have lost 40lbs since the start of September 2024 or 20 weeks.

20 weeks from now is 16 June 2025.

Bumblebeehum · 27/01/2025 18:11

Thanks @MandarinDentistTiger I’m racing you to Overweight!

MandarinDentistTiger · 27/01/2025 20:29

I'd like to keep you company @Bumblebeehum

@lespameo @InfoSecInTheCity @StanleyCup a quick update on my insane plateau problems... I decided to try one thing at a time and increased the amount of water I was drinking to 2.5 litres per day, and lo and behold the weight is moving again. It's early days, but I've lost 2.5lbs in the last 5 days. I'm hoping this has solved the problem. Weird thing was, I never felt thirsty at all, and don't really now either. It's clearly something I am going to have to keep an eye on.

Thank you for your suggestions!

lespameo · 28/01/2025 06:56

@Itisallgoingtobeok ooh glad to hear it!! I have to remind myself to drink water throughout the day as I'm the same.. don't always feel thirsty but it definitely helps. My skin should be beautiful and clear considering how much I drink these days but nope, still spotty at 37 years old!!!

EBoo80 · 28/01/2025 07:34

The water thing is crazy. I feel like I guzzle water constantly, but it makes such a difference. My occasional gains are as much about salty meals as they are about ‘bad’ meals, too.

InfoSecInTheCity · 28/01/2025 08:13

Why does it have to be water though, if it was Diet Coke I'd be winning, I could drink can after can of that stuff, water on the other hand I seem to forget it even exists unless I am actively reminding myself constantly.

MandarinDentistTiger · 28/01/2025 08:59

Thanks for sharing about the water @Itisallgoingtobeok

I have found I cannot tolerate large volumes of liquid. Siping means I'm constantly running to the loo.

I also cannot eat oranges and tangerines. I love them, I just cannot digest them anymore.

MandarinDentistTiger · 28/01/2025 09:05

A quick Google search has suggested I drink 30 mins after eating. I've always drank water before meals. I will give it a go.

SybillaB · 28/01/2025 09:27

After plateauing since Christmas my slow weight loss has started again, so I’m delighted to report that 21 weeks since I started I’ve now lost 1.5 stone. After many years there is now a 14 on the scales!

SpottyBumPony · 28/01/2025 09:27

Week 22,

Pretty much STS this week, I'm not surprised. I had a bottle of wine at the weekend and have eaten an entire tub of M&S flapjacks (as they were named granola flapjacks and contained pumpkin seeds). The first day I stopped at 2 but I ate them mindlessly. Ho hum, onwards and downwards and a lesson learnt.

sylv165 · 28/01/2025 10:47

Thank you for reminding me to go and fill up my water bottle @Itisallgoingtobeok!

MandarinDentistTiger · 28/01/2025 18:44

@SpottyBumPony this journey has made me realise what a fine balance it is to consistently lose weight. I would eat well all week. Just having a takeaway and a bottle of wine over three days was enough to gain 1lb to 4lb a month.

You've got this.

MandarinDentistTiger · 28/01/2025 18:57

I had a check up today and had some blood tests done. Obviously I was asked to pop on the scales. My OH is not routinely asked to get weighed. I will 100% be asked to get weighed again when I go for my results in a few days.

There is a thread in aibu with a poster questioning if they were fat shamed by their midwife. It is exasperating to read some of the comments.

“Is it true, is it kind, is it necessary?” should be considered by all people think about the impact of their words on others before speaking. This absolutely should include medical professionals. It is likely true and necessary to talk about BMI and related health risks. Is it kind is usually forgotten in my experience.

sylv165 · 29/01/2025 08:15

Another 2lbs down this morning! Thankfully I seem to be well over my 3 week stall and my weight loss has speeded up a bit. I went up to 5mg this week but I think suppression might be a bit too strong for me. It is a bit strange, I feel hungry for the first time in a long time, but when I eat anything I feel full right away. I had 5 almonds as a snack on Monday and felt like I had just had a Sunday roast!

20bloodypounds · 30/01/2025 09:56

@sylv165 I've got halfway through a cup of coffee and feel full!

sylv165 · 30/01/2025 11:23

It’s so strange @20bloodypounds, isn’t it?! I do usually get pretty strong suppression in the first couple of days after the jab, but I am always able to eat something! I’m now in day 4, couldn’t face breakfast and am now struggling to force down a small portion of natural yogurt, fruit and nuts. Having to take regular breaks!!

Not sure whether to try another week of 5mg to see if I ease into it a bit more, or just go back to my usual 3.75. I have finally got into a reasonable exercise habit and don’t want a lack of energy and nutrition to get in the way!

Tipster100 · 30/01/2025 17:57

I lost you all around Xmas when a new thread started and I've realised I really need to check in and feel inspired by you all and reminded of what I need to do!

I took a 12 day break over Xmas. First week (2 after my last injection) I went up half a pound which was fine. 2nd week I put on 4lbs in 4 days so that was scary. I found when I went back on MJ I didn't have very strong effects because I needed the accumulation of the meds.

I've been losing steadily since but gosh I'm finding January very hard. The bleakness is weakening my resolve a bit. I need to focus on water again. It helps so much.

Since Xmas I've bought a whole new wardrobe. I had not wanted to buy much until I had a steady weight but i bought a Xmas outfit and felt so good i thought it might inspire me. I'm really loving wearing some new clothes and selling my old ones. Much of this is because I'm slightly freaked out about my mental battles right now - is anyone close to their goal? I'm about 10 lbs from my goal and I feel like I'm moving slightly into self sabotage. Like I don't deserve this at all and I'm going to wreck it all and I'm scared the pharmacy will stop prescribing and I'm going to put it all back on again! Does anyone have angst about the finishing line and what will happen?

In positive news I feel fab and like I've found me again. It's such a relief to be able to wear clothes I like not just clothes that hide me.

SpiderMother · 30/01/2025 22:39

@Tipster100 I’ve bought some new clothes and it does feel good.

Ive just done jab 22. I was down 1.3 lbs this week. I’m down 43.9 lbs in total and 5.8 pounds from goal.

I’ve had some bad news this week though and I have to go to stay away in a hotel to visit family over the next few days. I’m not going to have any cooking facilities and I’m scared about it. I don’t want to be derailed and that’s often what has happened to me when I successfully dieted before.

Sorry you've had bad news and I hope you're ok.

I had a few days away over Xmas and the approach I took food wise was.

Buffet breakfast - stuck to a simple 2 egg omelette or scrambled egg, mushrooms and tinned tomatoes. Low calorie, low carb and high protein.

Lunch I typically missed, I just had a coffee or something while we were out and about and DH and DD had a sandwich or jacket potato from whatever attraction cafe we were in.

Dinner - because I'd gone so light in the day it meant I didn't have to really worry about calories for a restaurant meal. I picked meat options like steak or chicken breast with veg sides like broccoli or asparagus etc rather than potato or pasta.

I also took some ambient snacks for my handbag so I wouldn't buy crap on impulse. I like beef jerky so having a pack of that in my bag meant I had a 100 calorie high protein snack I could eat onthe go that would tide me over till dinner.

SpiderMother · 30/01/2025 23:11

Thanks @InfoSecInTheCity that’s really useful advice. I usually eat lunch not breakfast but switching them round might be really sensible.

SpottyBumPony · 31/01/2025 08:39

Sorry about your bad news @spidermother . Remember, if it happens, a week of 'off plan' eating won't ruin all your hard work and effort, we'll all be here to help you get back on track again afterwards 💪
