I've been feeling more snackish the last few days but I'm not actually hungry, I just have a desire to snack and I think it's more about ingrained habits than suppression for me.

The weather is cold, Xmas is over and that January feeling is starting to hit. In my brain that means it's time for heaping big plates of shepherds pie and Toad in the Hole, for comfort puddings like sticky toffee or crumble and custard, for massive mugs of hot chocolate with cream.

Those were the things I used to drive myself through the day 'it's ok that your feet are freezing and you have to spend another hour on this boring conference call with Mr no personality and far too much confidence, because in a couple of hours you get to treat yourself to casserole with lavishly buttered fresh French bread and a heaping bowl of blackberry Cobbler so it will all be better then'.

So my brain is throwing out the desire for something foody, but if I can distract myself I realise that it wasn't because of hunger, my stomach isn't rumbling, my mouth isn't watering, I don't feel any physical signs of hunger, I just need to retrain my 'treat' mechanism.

Totally, I get this. the cold and comforting food around as well.

Orangesandlemons77 · 08/01/2025 16:42

I'm trying to do some healthy but comforting stuff. Like hot veggie soups or I do a hot choc which is cacao and almond milk with a wee bit of sugar.

SpottyBumPony · 08/01/2025 17:10

Weirdly going out for a cold walk helped me feel more cosy today. I had vinted parcels to send at lunch time so nipped out to do them, then went the long way to do school pick up.

Hi, I hit 3 stone this morning <whoop> so took my comparison pics and the naked one of my back/bum is looking worse than it did 4 months ago 🤔

It's interesting that we are all on quite different doses but started at the same time and now some of us are noticing it wearing off / less suppression. Wonder if it is Christmas or does the body tend to get used to it after a few months perhaps.

I mean with me I am getting less nausea and feeling of Ugh even thinking about food, but still not that hungry so it feels better in a way. But I'm wondering if I might as well have stayed on 5mg as it doesn't feel much different on 10mg and costs more.

It is really strange that a lot of us who started at around the same time are finding this regardless of the dose we're on 🤔

I upped my dose from 50 clicks to 55 clicks of a 5mg pen and I wish I'd done the full 5mg!

85reasons · 08/01/2025 19:46

I read a really interesting post recently about moving up the doses per manufacturer recommendations vs sticking at lower doses and the perceived fear that if we move up too quickly we might find it wearing off at 15mg with "nowhere to go".

I'm someone who has faffed around with doses trying to avoid moving up too quickly, and my weight loss has also massively slowed down. The issue has been that my suppression has always been pretty good so I've thought well if I can avoid moving up I will.

The poster pointed out that diabetics using this long term have not experienced MJ "wearing off" after a while and that perhaps we should continue moving up the doses as recommended, then titrating back down when we reach goal - to either come off completely or have a maintenance dose. I think another reason - understandably - we might tend to veer away from this is to avoid the higher prices (I've definitely wanted to avoid this).

But I may try moving up again next month - I've just started 10mg and will see how it goes over the next few weeks. With any luck two more months should have me near goal and I can then try moving back down.

It's not straightforward any of this is it..!

InfoSecInTheCity · 08/01/2025 20:00

@85reasons I'm on MJ under the diabetes protocol and the guidance is that you titrate up to 5mg then stay there until it stops working, you don't move up till weight loss stop, suppression stops or blood sugar readings start edging up. I've been on 5mg since week 5 and will be doing jab 19 tomorrow so should have been on 12.5mg based on the 4 week blocks.

medicines.bedfordshirelutonandmiltonkeynes.icb.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Tirzepatide-prescribing-support-information.pdf

I have a blood test next week and will then have a diabetes review the week after so will find out then if they would recommend staying at 5mg or moving up, I think I'll be staying at 5mg as weight loss has remained consistent and I'm not far off healthy BMI now and glucose readings have been good .

85reasons · 08/01/2025 20:28

Thanks for posting that @InfoSecInTheCity - you've had incredible and consistent results too!

It's interesting that the diabetes advice differs from the advice given out for weight loss by the manufacturer /pharmacies, and to that of the studies that were done - I wonder why that is.

Having said that, in my case as my weight loss has really slowed down, perhaps I should have been moving up the doses more quickly rather than basing it on levels of suppression.

Tipster100 · 08/01/2025 20:30

I wonder if anyone can help me - I was trying to use my extra dose in my pen tonight and the mechanism inside broke so I couldn't use it. I'm guessing I now need to buy some needles and syringes but I have no idea which ones to buy? When I look on Amazon they look like the needles are huge and one review said "quite blunt needles but good price so will reorder" which was not really the comforting review I was looking for. Can anyone recommend the needles/syringes I should buy for a nice painless jab? I was nervous enough about the first jab using one of these pens! I'd like not to waste this though seeing as it's so expensive. Thank you!

Doggymummar · 08/01/2025 21:38

I got mine for on a pharmacy I didn't see any in Amazon that fit the bill. I got 8mm insulin syringes I've seen others using Calpol syringes

I don't think you could possibly use a Calpol syringe as you couldn't attach a needle to it. Never mind that it's not going to be sterile either.

Doggymummar · 08/01/2025 21:48

No idea I don't have kids but it was on a thread over Christmas, as I said mine came from a pharmacy

SilenceInside · 08/01/2025 21:48

That was someone comparing the size to. Calpol syringe, not using it!

Tipster100 · 08/01/2025 21:57

Thanks, @Silenceinside those needles look a little more professional and less scary!

Weighed yesterday and have STS this week. I guess to be expected after a big loss last week - although that was down to illness rather than MJ. In general I do feel like my weight loss has slowed right down, not quite at a standstill but maybe 2/3lbs a month. It is still going in the right direction but maybe I should go up to 5mg to get a boost like @7Purpleheartsarmy! I don’t feel like I’m eating a lot though so not sure if I want more suppression 🤔

Itisallgoingtobeok · 09/01/2025 09:19

Morning all. I've moved up to 5mg 3 weeks ago and I'm constantly thirsty. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm drinking so much I'm constantly in the loo!

I always find that if weight loss slows down and I know it's not because my period is due, that I need to take a good look at my food and water intake, water particularly. A few days of not drinking enough and the scales stop going down. Food because if you don't track what you eat, it's really easy to add just one or two little things and find yourself going over your calories.

Also if you have lost quite a bit you may need to reduce your calories in order to continue losing weight, because your overall need reduces, so recalculate your TDEE and make sure you're still targeting the right amounts.

sylv165 · 09/01/2025 10:02

I was trying to work out where I am going wrong @InfoSecInTheCity. I think my water intake has been good (thanks to the new Stanley cup I got from Santa 🤣) and food not too bad. Possibly not eating enough mind you. The combination of illness and MJ has meant I don’t have much of an appetite.

Yesterday I was in London for work and had around 2l of water, one flat white, a chicken flatbread thing from pret for lunch and a chicken and hummus pot thing with carrot sticks for dinner (healthiest quick option I could find at Gatwick airport!). About 1000cals.

Day before I had 2l of water, black coffee, smoothie with frozen berries and natural yoghurt, and bolognaise with carrots and sugar snap peas instead of pasta. Also about 1000cals.

Might just be a natural stall that I need to work through 🤞

In what way? D’you have more loose skin?
If so, the right exercise and a bit of time should firm things up a bit.

Bumblebeehum · 09/01/2025 10:26

@Witchyandtwitchy everything is just all saggy - I wouldn’t go as far as ‘loose skin’ as I’ve still got 50lbs to go, I remain OBESE despite a 3 stone loss, but I was hoping the view might improve a little bit 😕

I might be too old (53), and too fat for everything to snap back into place.

lespameo · 09/01/2025 11:30

@Bumblebeehum my boobs are horrendous, and so is my stomach area and thighs. I had a bath the other day and my stomach skin was floating, it was disgusting. If I could afford a mummy make over then I'd seriously consider it!

InfoSecInTheCity · 09/01/2025 12:26

I'm saggy too but have read lots of threads and articles online and looked at lots of before and after photos. What I'm seeing is that skin takes longer to recover than you'd like, it may never spring fully back but generally there is some improvement over a 12 month period. What seems to have the best impact is strength exercises to build the muscles and fill up some of the saggyness.

I agree with the above. It will improve in time, especially with the right exercise.
A friend of mine lost about 5st in her late 60’s a few years ago and her skin has definitely shrunk a bit.
Unless you’re planning on frequently walking around naked 😉 I’d compare photos with fitted clothes on. It’ll make you feel better about yourself!
3st is a great loss, well done. Think how great you’ll feel when you’ve lost a bit more!

@sylv165 i think I’m similar to you and I’m considering whether to go to 5 or just stop. I am eating between 1000 and 1200 calories per day but not really losing anything. I’ve upped walking and starting my weights again which I’d kind of stopped over December. I ate really well over Xmas with just one or two ‘treats’’

one thing that may help you is eating breakfast and im also trying to be outside as much as possible although that’s not easy in this freezing weather. Another thing could be stress.

but maybe you actually should eat a bit more? Do you know your tdee?
