Has anyone used shemed for mounjaro? It seems a good price but you are locked in for 12 months if approved.
Thanks

I think in theory if you stop you'd owe the rest of the years worth but I suspect if there's a clinical reason they'd stop anyway.

Lots of people have come of it due to side effects and just not feeling good whilst taking it. Not clinical reasons and I suspect still chargeable

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 19/12/2024 21:31

Side effects that aren't manageable would be a clinical reason surely?

I'll message again but I'm fairly committed to doing MJ for at least a year. I really really don't want surgery so this seems the most supportive (and cheap) way to do it.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/12/2024 06:46

@movinghomeagain did you go for it in the end? Or what did yiu go for?

The shemed seems linked to eMed which has an established programme and seems as reputable as any of them. The guy runs the GP at Hand group of GPS in London I think. He may not be whwo I'd want to have dinner with but I suspect that of all the pharmacies they're a business.

I'm going to ring today and fine out more as ultimately if it's that cheap relatively and I was planning to be on it a year and I don't mind being part of their programme it makes sense.

movinghomeagain · 20/12/2024 06:58

Hi,
No I haven't gone with them, tbh I'm still deciding who to go with. I'm very indecisive so picking one and making sure its reputable etc is taking time.
I'm going to wait until after Christmas to decide now as wouldn't want it caught up in any postal delays.
You'll have to let us know what they are like, I suspect if you don't have any issues not will be good, but if you have an issue that's when we'll find out how good they are.
Interesting reading though

Yes I keep going back and forth too!

If I had more money I think I'd go for Asda for the convenience of having it in store, or being a big company and not worrying about delivery.

Whoever we go with it looks expensive once you go up the doses 😬. I don't want to start without knowing I can see it out.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/12/2024 07:22

And yes I don't have money to lose if I need out😬

Orangesandlemons77 · 20/12/2024 08:44

It did say something about if you don't do it as they want the cost doubles. I thought that might be a worry. I suppose you could just leave them and move elsewhere.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/12/2024 08:48

I think it's of you don't do their 60second weekly call (as that's part of the trial) they ditch you and go onto the higher non trial rate.

I'm going to ring them at 9. These are my questions. Any others I should ask if anyone's around?

  • How easy it is to book the calls (could be a problem if they ditch you if you dot do them)
  • Process of choosing doses (just double checking this. They're linked to emed and the GP in hand London virtual gp's so it's NHS doctors doing it I just want to check)
  • Leaving if its unbearable. *Side effects. It looks like they give you things to help with this. *relationshio to eMed. Is it just 5 people or are there doctors etc. It says 24/7 access....
Orangesandlemons77 · 20/12/2024 09:01

What us the weekly call about?

Orangesandlemons77 · 20/12/2024 09:08

I think it would be stressful feeling they might kick you off onto the higher price, I mean they have to make money somehow and at £99 a month that is less than the last price for the meds so they can't make money that way? Unless I am missing something.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/12/2024 09:11

The reduced rate is because they are using all the data for evidence, so its in their vested interest you do well ! Or you could see it that you're paying to be in their trial...

The normal rate with eMEd is much higher

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/12/2024 09:12

But yes its a bit stressful without knowing for sure how they run.

I've been on hold 6 minutes now.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/12/2024 09:13

I think the weekly call is to see you take the dose or weigh yourself - its part of their data collection.

I'll have to go to work soon so may ring them again after lunch.

Orangesandlemons77 · 20/12/2024 09:14

But what is this evidence / data collection actually for?

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/12/2024 09:15

To promote their product/service in the future which presumably will be at much higher cost

colesr · 20/12/2024 09:17

I'm confused about this, are you saying NHS doctors are overseeing this private company and prescribing?

NippyCrab · 20/12/2024 09:31

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden if you want to start MJ don't be drawn in by the cheapest offer. Take your time and choose wisely. I was with Voy initially and moved to Oushk and have stayed with them so far. Jump on the continuing mounjaro thread and have a read.
Don't underestimate how your body will react, I'm still on a low dose. There are too many "i think" and "I suspect" in your posts.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 20/12/2024 10:39

TBH, I think I’d probably have gone with them if they’d been around when I started in June. At the time, the level of oversight would have felt comforting and the price is certainly very appealing! I knew nothing about any of the pharmacies then (other than the obvious high street ones!) so they wouldn’t have appeared dodgy to me with that level of continued involvement. I have seen several posts elsewhere (fb or Reddit) from people who have signed up and received the test kit and seem happy with it all.

Let us know what you decide @FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden and how it all pans out if you do sign up.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/12/2024 13:58

Hello everyone.

I had a good chat with the person on the phone this morning and she was really very helpful. I'm going to go for it (I hope the blood test doesn't rule me out somehow!).

This is a link to their study -
https://www.isrctn.com/ISRCTN12421711

The doctor Matthew Noble who is heading it up also heads up eMed and they are very linked. He is a partner at GP in hand which is NHS online doctors in London. (For the shemed trial the clinicians are from eMed and working as private doctors)

I'm happy it's credible. There is a lot more support there as it's a wrap around service so I won't be jumping from random pharmacy to random pharmacy or trying to tout codes. And I'll have a regular delivery.

If you have minor side effects the idea is that they support you through those and they even start you off with over the counter drugs that might help.

If it was serious then you could agree with a clinician to leave the trial/contract but not for the more "minor" effects and they are upfront that these are common. I am expecting these.

The doses are decided in conjunction with a clinician just as you would if doing it through the NHS. I'm happy with that. It's a conversation around weight loss achieved and managing side effects.

She was brilliant on the phone. I am going to give it a go!

They're still signing up til 31st if anyone wants to do it with me and blood test returned from 2nd Jan so will be after Xmas.

No. The guy that is coridinating this and cheif exec for eMed is also one of 4 partners who own/run GP in Hand which is NHS in London. I misunderstood the links between the 3.

YourPeachZebra · 20/12/2024 18:10

I'm thinking about it seriously. Thanks for all the emails and calls, everyone – it sounds great! My only worry is starting my master's in September; I'll have to quit my job, so I'm not sure I can manage those last three £99 payments. I'll have student loans and I've applied for scholarships, plus I'll work weekends, but it still feels risky amd I can't say for sure if I'll have that 99 to spare every month.

FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden · 20/12/2024 18:18

I think for me I was really needing to try MJ and I know I need to do it for a long time as I am morbidly obese.

Its also just so much cheaper.

I can see it might not make sense if you might not need a year.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 21/12/2024 17:15

@YourPeachZebra if you read through some threads, you will see that a lot of people save so much money on food shopping/takeaways/ booze that the MJ doesn’t cost anything from their budget! Maybe you could try putting any weekly savings away to cover the last 3 months? I know when I started (stupidly with a v expensive provider!) I told myself it would only be for 6 months but dropping my wine habit alone has covered the cost!

Best of luck with your master’s!

LightsAndBaubles · 22/12/2024 09:41

@FatsiaJaponicaInTheGarden
I've also decided that if I pass the blood test I'm going for it. I signed up for the test kit yesterday.

I've been thinking seriously about trying Mounjaro for a while but the cost and the variability of prices was making me usure if I could afford it. I realy like the idea of more support and I'm not at all put off by the video calls, I know that will suit me.
I've had a good read of the terms and conditions and clinical trial information and I'm willing to commit for a year.
