Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

Hi all

It is my first weigh in day tomorrow. Excited and nervous in equal measure. Where does everyone keep their pen once they’ve done the first injection. I took it out of the fridge like it suggested in the instructions but have since read some people keep it in the fridge all the time and then it will be okay for the bonus one at the end? Do you think I’ll be okay putting it back in the fridge after it’s been out for a week?

Oh goodness, I feel so sick! Anyone else? Not able to eat anything today beyond half a yoghurt. Not like me at all 😂

Oh no, hope you feel better soon. This what I am a bit worried about tbh

Plumptious1 · 07/12/2024 18:12

Hello! Hope it's OK if I join you all. I started Mounjaro a week ago, just had my second dose at 2.5 today. I have about 6 stone to lose and seem to have lost 4lb this week if my scales are accurate, so I'm pleased with how it's going so far.

I know the initial dose is meant to be 'non therapeutic' and just get your body used to the medication but I definitely noticed some appetite suppression and it was GREAT, my constant need/obsession with snacking disappeared, although it had definitely worn off by late yesterday and I started grazing again, which worries me for the future when I'll have to eventually come off it. It was just so nice to feel more 'even' and not be on the food rollercoaster. Perhaps my willpower will eventually take over when my body is used to sensible eating...Confused

Side effects - headachey and a bit of stomach trouble but I have these so regularly anyway that I'm not sure it was linked to the mounjaro. Going to make sure I drink tons of water this week.

I think I managed to squirt some out of my pen before doing the dose this morning and it's now looking a lot emptier, I followed the instructions to tap the pen to allow air out and it just came out in a woosh. So I may run out before the end of the month- hopefully not.

Anyway, well done everyone on your positive new starts!

Last night went to Xmas Dinner with team....I ate the meat and creamy potato side.....it was lovely but very rich. Today I have felt nauseous all day and also craving sugar, although have not succumbed. I guess it was just too rich. Lesson learned.

On a lighter note, I had zero desire to eat dessert

Hi, I thought you were supposed to keep it in the fridge all the time?

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 07/12/2024 21:03

@ChloeCannotCanCan I read that you can keep it out of the fridge for 21 days as long as the temp doesnt go above 30 degrees (fat chance in the UK)

Slimwannabe · 07/12/2024 21:05

I've been lucky in having immediate appetite suppression and no side effects, injected in thigh. Will weigh in tomorrow and let you know how it goes after week 1! Have eaten no snacky foods all at, apart from that eating a normal BLD and not restricting calories particularly beyond that as I want any weight loss to be sustainable long term - generally averaging out at 1600-1800cals a day currently on 2.5. This feels like the missing piece of the puzzle for me, the last week has been totally different in terms of how I view food. I feel so appreciative of how the jab has worked for me.

frogpigdonkey · 07/12/2024 21:14

I've also had strong appetite suppression after first dose. Very strange feeling- not nauseous but no interest in food, and things I love are not really appealing. It's actually a bit much- I can barely choke it down despite knowing I need to eat. Hoping this is just an initial reaction and not how it will be for me.

shrinkingthiswinter · 07/12/2024 21:24

The online doctor did my prescription this evening and I managed to find an online pharmacy with stock (supply is an issue here) and my first pen should arrive on Monday night!

Over the last two years I’ve managed to stabilize my weight and even to lose a couple of kilos, despite gaining muscle. But I just couldn’t see myself managing significant weight loss until this possibility came along.

Hope nausea resolves for those feeling it.

SilenceInside · 07/12/2024 21:28

@ChloeCannotCanCan from the paper instruction leaflet that comes with the Mounjaro pens.

You can keep the pen at room temp from when you've first used it, for 30 days as long as it doesn't get over 30 degrees C. You can keep it in the fridge if you want to though.

Unused pens should be kept in the fridge and will last until their expiry date.

I've just had an email from NuMan saying my second delivery will be £194!

Does that sound right?!

There is a thread for discount codes for different suppliers. I'm with Juniper, which is on the high end, but I appreciate the health coach support and will save the cost in avoided takeaways per month.

I think on MedExpress it's around £150.

Just did my first weigh in after completing week 1 - a loss of 6 pounds. I am so pleased with that, as you can imagine. I’ll be doing my 2nd dose today. If I could have a steady loss of 2 pounds a week from here on it, I’ll be happy 🤞

@Slimwannabe @DiggityDawg Wow!! well done on those losses - that is so encouraging to hear. Are you counting calories too, or just eating when you feel like it?

I feel better today thanks @Slimwannabe , not hungry but that is usual for me in the mornings. I have my black coffee (or 2) and then about 11ish normally get a bit hungry so it'll be interesting for me if my pangs kick in then!

DiggityDawg · 08/12/2024 10:12

Thank you @EggyBurpsNotEggyBread. I’m not calorie counting, just eating when I’m hungry which is around twice a day. I’m tending to eat around 11:30ish, (a small meal) and then tea as usual with plenty of veg.

My biggest problem (pre-mounjaro) is that I constantly crave sweet things - chocolate, biscuits, cakes etc and I just couldn’t control how much I ate, it could never be just one biscuit, just one bite of chocolate. It was a whole large bar and (I hate to admit it) more than once a day. I most probably ate my daily calorie allowance in shit. Mounjaro has taken that craving away almost completely - I’m still having a small amount of chocolate daily (most prob about 150 calories a day) which leaves plenty for the 2 meals I’m having. I’m wondering if this will stop as I continue on the journey and I’ll be able to go longer in between needing a sweet fix.

I was exactly the same as you....lots of chocolate everyday.
I have chosen to go cold turkey since starting MJ only because I didn't feel I would have enough self-control to stop at a few squares
So far so good, only craved sugar yesterday when I felt unwell but didn't succumb....this time!
