Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

I am calorie logging more than I am calorie counting. I'm also making sure to eat 3 regular meals a day, even if they are small ones (for example, lunch yesterday was grapes). I've not wanted or had any snacks/sweets at all.

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 08/12/2024 10:52

That is so good to hear that the sugar cravings lessen, that is my downfall. Not even when I am hungry - I just love the taste of chocolate. Not bothered with cakes/biscuits/ice-cream, just Cadburys 😃I admit I did have some last night once the sicky feeling had stopped, but I didnt go OTT like I usually would.

Wow! Amazing how much this thread is moving. I'm pleased to see everyone that's experiencing the benefits of MJ and congrats to @Slimwannabe @50somethingHRTaddict @JunoRoma and everyone on your loss! 💛

A big welcome to all the newcomers on the thread.💛

Also hoping those with unpleasant side effects feel better soon. 💛

Wk2 D1 for me today. I've done my 2nd jab early today - as usual, no patience 😆. Side effects have stayed as mild nausea on and off mostly and nothing else since that horrible d&v.

I've finally weighed and lost 6.8lbs, I'm sure some of it was from the d&v and water weight but happy to see the scales move backwards for once in a long time! Looking forward to the week ahead and more losses!

Great job, @OnTheMJ you must be delighted
Hopefully a side effect free week ahead!

Slimwannabe · 08/12/2024 11:32

@OnTheMJ congrats on a great loss! I hope the nausea stays away for you this week.

I've found suppressed appetite from the morning after the evening first dose.

I didn't pick or feel any urge to eat extras. I struggled to eat my normal portions and found 1/2 portion of granola was sufficient.

Dinner was chicken breast and veg with no need for carbs to accompany it.

I'm on day 3 and I've just had brunch. I thoroughly enjoyed the taste but chose a small portion and it was healthy.

Flavours seem enhanced
I had a piece of gum and it tasted really good and more like gum from my child hood
I had some steamed carrot and it was delicious

I'm optimistic that if this continues then I can enjoy smaller portions at Christmas but still enjoy the taste

I've had a small amount of stomach discomfort, it felt like I'd done sit-ups rather than nausea

Weigh in is on Thursday

starting weight 14 stone 3.8 pounds
Target 11 stone

JunoRoma · 08/12/2024 14:25

I'm mid-week after my second 2.5mg dose, and the effect on gastric emptying is noticeably stronger compared to this time last week. If I have a smallish meal (300-400 kcal) then I can't manage to eat again for at least five hours. As the volume I can eat is quite limited at the moment, I'm having to be conscious of making sure what I do eat is nutritious and has enough protein.

I am able to sip water and herbal tea, so I'm keeping hydrated.

FiftynFooked · 08/12/2024 15:22

Hi can I join? First dose this morning. Feeling a little queasy but otherwise ok.

SW 15.3 st
BMI 37.7

Haven't set a GW yet as any loss will be a bonus. I'd love to get into a size 12 again! I've got fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, a pituitary tumour and I'm peri all of which are making weight loss extremely difficult. I'm going back to logging cals on Nutracheck. Aiming for about 1300 a day.

Hi! After a long time ruminating about it, I started my Mounjaro journey this Thursday and I hope I can join. My weight is 88kg/hight 164 cm. I’ve lost 2 kg since starting but I know it’s due to stress mainly lol I have mild appetite suppression, for the first time I can stick to my calorie deficit. I do get hungry but I don’t reach for treats and snacks. Have no idea if it’s psychological or physical (I’m obviously only on 2.5 mg as I’m a new starter). I’m with Voy and like the subscription aspect and knowing when my next dose is delivered but I don’t see the point in their “coaching” (once I tried to reach for my coach through WhatsApp it was literally an AI bot, shameful…)

Frutter · 08/12/2024 16:45

Hi all,

I just started on Saturday, been thinking of it for a while and just decided to do it! A few of the women at work are doing it with great success.
I've got 2.5 maybe 3 stone to lose- don't want to be thin. I'm quite fit so just want to lose the flabby bits that I just can't shift no matter how much I run!
So far, no side effects except slightly windy but feel really full, eating small meals as the kids are off over the weekend but far less than normal. Haven't felt hungry all day today!
Fingers crossed we all do well this week.

SW 89kg
Aiming for 75kgish

I've list another 4lb so I'm happy I'll see what happens next week to decide on going up or stay at 5mg

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 08/12/2024 17:45

Yes, feeling much better thanks @OnTheMJ !

No appetite at all today - I have only had 2 black coffees, 2 teas and a litre of juice. Wondering whether to bother eating or let my body carry on as if it's a fast?

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 08/12/2024 17:46

@murraymcgill well done! When did you start?

I would try to eat something, even if it's small, to keep your blood sugar even. If I don't fancy a meal I usually have carrots and hummus, grapes, or a couple of boiled eggs, so that I'm getting some nutrition in me

Today was the first time I had hunger pangs, so had to grab some veggie sushi while doing the weekly shop to tide me over! Jabbing tonight, so hopefully back to normal tomorrow.

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 08/12/2024 17:53

Thanks @Slimwannabe , will do.

Will this be your 2nd jab?

Yes, number 2 on 2.5mg!

Eek! Have just press go on my order. My DP has lost 3 stone on Mounjaro and I’ve decided to bite the bullet. I’m 5’6 and around 15 stone. Feeling nervous.

OnTheMJ · 08/12/2024 19:50

@NorthernDeer You'll be glad you did once you start. Early welcome to the MJ club 😁

Week 1 weigh in results - 6.3lbs off! And 2nd injection done today- I'm delighted with that!

shrinkingthiswinter · 08/12/2024 19:58

So encouraging to hear these first and second week reports!!

@FiftynFooked my BMI is exactly the same as yours! I should be taking my first dose tomorrow evening, presuming my delivery arrives as it should.

Very excited. I’ve been allowing myself to think about how much I’d actually like to be thinner. I’d love to go horse riding again.

I weighed this morning and found I’ve lost a kilo over the last week, despite a couple of sessions of strength training. I’ve been eating very carefully, mostly just protein and veg, and that works even without the jab. Somehow knowing that hunger isn’t important and is soon going to be hugely reduced has helped me ignore it.

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 08/12/2024 19:58

Wow, well done @mjjourney that is amazing!

shrinkingthiswinter · 08/12/2024 20:02

Was anyone else forced to eat up everything at primary school? At mine the dinner ladies made you sit sobbing onto your plate until you’d eaten everything, however disgusting it was (half warmed tinned tomatoes…). And you couldn’t choose what you were given or say how much.

I’ve realized that’s caused huge problems for me. I feel like food HAS to be eaten. If it’s on my plate or or the table or in the fridge, it’s got to be eaten up. But it doesn’t. I’ve got to learn that it doesn’t.
