Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

I went out at the weekend for a Christmas dinner and realised how slowly i now eat. I used to wolf down my food but i was only half way though my plate of turkey by the time everyone else had finished. Is anyone else finding that they are eating more slowly?

NorthernDeer · 16/12/2024 11:56

Gargghh! I’m not sure I like it! I’m not sure what it is but feeling so weird. Just not being interested in food. It’s not ‘not hungry’ it’s ‘doesn’t even occur to me to eat’. Doesn’t feel natural.

Also not enjoying nausea.

My DP who has lost over 3 stone says it’s normal and will ease. But it doesn’t feel like I thought it would.

littlebirdieblu · 16/12/2024 12:05

@saj90 I took my 2nd dose today for the same reasons as I was due to take it tomorrow, but I want to take my next one on the Sunday before Xmas so it doesn't wipe me out on Xmas day. So far suppression is better than the first day, and no side effects yet.

Anley · 16/12/2024 12:36

W1D3 still no side effects (I suppose I should be grateful except that it makes me doubt if it is working). Genuinely can’t tell if it is working at this dose or not - I’m jet lagged as hell which doesn’t help the confusion but I don’t feel much different than when I’m jet lagged without Mounjaro. I guess I was expecting deafening silence of food but at the moment it feels more like a decision not to eat than not being able to.

It is a wierd feeling - I don't feel hungry just a kind of emptiness which means I need to eat something or I'll go a bit shaky. It's easing a bit for me now I'm in W4 and I'm starting to feel a bit more normal, though still not particularly hungry. I'm putting it down to the price I have to pay to finally lose some weight - feeling very meh about food for a while....

shrinkingthiswinter · 16/12/2024 13:24

@saj90 I've just taken my second dose early for a similar reason. We are going on a long journey this week and I didn't want to have just taken it before setting off. Then I will take the third one early too so that it is wearing off by the time we go to an amazing restaurant DH has booked late next week; would be silly not to be able to eat anything.

I'm 3.5kg or half a stone down in 2 weeks (had already started eating very carefully the week before first dose). It feels amazing. I look better already and bras are loose round chest. Have also been at the gym a lot so feeling stronger too. I want to lose between 15 and 25kg more, depending on how I feel and look.

Tomorrow I should be under 100kg, which was my first goal. I was 100g off today. I think after that I should probably aim to lose more slowly, like a kilo a week. I'm finding calibrating how much to eat a bit tricky. Yesterday I was very busy running around the house doing things and had nice long gym session, and realized I hadn't even eaten as many calories as my watch said I'd used (1200 active calories), so I had a tiny bit of chocolate mousse cake, which tasted amazing, but I didn't want more.

shrinkingthiswinter · 16/12/2024 13:26

@OrangeDonald yes! Much slower and no compulsion to finish.

I wonder if all my personality flaws are just chemical? If I had the right line up of weekly injections, could I be an all round ideal person?

Luxecalmeetvolupte · 16/12/2024 13:35

W1D1 (injected last night at 8pm)
SW: 16st 7lb
CW: 16st 7lb

First full day, not sure what I'm feeling yet, especially as I have a horrid cold anyway so not feeling like eating could just be that. I felt very slightly nauseous for about 45 mins after I jabbed, then it just went away completely, so I'm hoping not to be too plagued with side effects in any event.

Having said that I did voluntarily eat a satsuma this morning (would never normally occur to me to have a fruit snack over a biscuit, say) and had my breakfast much later than usual, so who knows... I'll give it a couple of days before I claim it as the jab!

JunoRoma · 16/12/2024 14:44

@shrinkingthiswinter I'm also hoping to break the 100kg barrier this week 💪🏻
As of this morning I weigh 100.1

Nonono11 · 16/12/2024 15:19

My 1st order arrives tomorrow (med express)
i had planned to wait until after Christmas but really my binging is out of control I feel sluggish and awful I have now planned to start tomorrow. Am I right in thinking it’s best to take it in the evening? I’ve been to Tesco and stocked up on lots of high protein healthy food. I’m feeling really excited to start. I have about 8 stone to lose to get back to pre pregnancy, but I’d really be happy with 5/6 stone, so I’m in it for the long haul!

ohmyohmy123 · 16/12/2024 16:56

@Nonono11 go for it - you could be half a stone down by Xmas day wouldn't that be lovely!

I'm on wk 3 day 5 now and suddenly getting horrid heartburn! Anyone else?

Yep, the heartburn kicked in this weekend (mid-way through W3).

I dutifully looked at the NHS website for advice:

"Do not have food or drink that triggers your symptoms" - I've been eating nothing rich or spicy because I'm too wary of side effects!
"Do not eat within 3 or 4 hours before bed" I haven't been eating anything after 7pm.
"Do not wear clothes that are tight around your waist" - thanks to Mounjaro, none of my clothes are, and my trousers are threatening to fall down.
"Do not smoke" - I never have.
"Do not drink too much alcohol" I have on average one unit of alcohol a fortnight, and none in the past two weeks.

"Eat smaller meals" - if my meals were any smaller they wouldn't exist.
"Try to lose weight if you're overweight" - well yes, that's why we're here.
"Try to find ways to relax" - I work in a school and it's the last week of a very long term. 😂

Gaviscon seems to have sorted it.

ohmyohmy123 · 16/12/2024 18:26

@JunoRoma haha got to love the nhs!!

I thought I was sailing through without side effects as I'm taking a probiotic as suggested by people on the fb page.

I will try gaviscon thank you :-)

I had wine over the weekend so probs that causing it

JJDogmum · 16/12/2024 18:51

LouisaPesel · 16/12/2024 08:14

@JJDogmum I'm interested in how you get on. Nausea since jab#2 means I'm going to skip next couple of jabs (this Wed &Xmas Day) with a view to resuming on NYD.

Hi, I took the 1.25mg dose on Thursday evening. Yesterday morning I had a couple of hours of an upset tummy but by lunchtime I felt fine. No nausea, vomiting or bloating.
Still feeling appetite suppression but not so much as before, so am eating better.
Feeling full quickly and food noise still very quiet.
Definitely more tolerable for me than 2.5mgs.

JunoRoma · 16/12/2024 18:54

@JJDogmum
Glad to hear that the 1.25mg is more comfortable for you.

MJDecember24 · 16/12/2024 20:42

It’s two weeks since I received my pen. I wanted to hold off starting until after Christmas so I’ve been making a real effort to run or gym almost every day, cut out sugar and dairy, eating lots of fibre and protein, avoiding much fat. Skipped the Christmas parties.

just weighed myself and I’m exactly the same weight as two weeks ago. So fuck it, I’m going in this evening.

I so feel your pain....this was me for so long and my "fuck it" moment was often followed by copious amount of chocolate!
The very best of luck to you. At least now by using this wonderful drug, hopefully, all your efforts will be rewarded 😀

saj90 · 16/12/2024 21:15

W2 D1 - I've taken this jab a day early.
SW- 94kg (14.8stone)
CW - 90kg Shock (14.1stone)
GW - 70kg (11stone)

Absolutely in shock at over the weight loss over 6 days.
Hope side effects aren't too bad this week. Just want to reiterate how helpful this group has been. Thanks everyone.

BigTightropeWalker · 16/12/2024 21:24

Hi, I'm W2D4. My Appetite suppression is not great this week compared to last week - I'm thinking of taking my injection a day early this week to see if it improves things. Is that a bad idea?

Could it be possible that some injections don't get absorbed as well, due to technique or something??

I would check what your provider says, but I think it's ok to take a day early. I did today so that I (hopefully) don't feel rubbish on Christmas Day. Next jab was due on Christmas Eve.

Slimwannabe · 16/12/2024 21:32

Sorry to those of you suffering with side effects; w3 really does seem to be heartburn week! My period has also gone AWOL but that's likely the start of peri!

Welcome to all the new jabbers!

BigTightropeWalker · 16/12/2024 21:45

Thanks @saj90 . Think I might try it. It's frustrating coz I'm tolerating it very well - no side effects really. But just feels a bit weaker this week

Mine hasn't been as good as w1, and I'm on w3 now. I wonder if it's because the first week feels like such a change from before, and then by w2 we've mentally adjusted a bit?

I'm going to use my bonus dose to stick to 2.5 for a fifth week to get the holidays out of the way, then increase to 5 in Jan. I wonder what the higher dose will feel like!

NotMeNoNo · 17/12/2024 07:14

Can I join? I have just placed my order with Asda. I have 2 weeks off work over the holiday so hoping to get settled with it before going back in January.
SW 86kg (BMI 34)
GW maybe 60-65 kg (BMI 24-26)

MaybeMrs · 17/12/2024 07:27

I started on Saturday night. Have had pretty much total suppression. Switched my brews for water at work. Just had a sneaky weigh and I’m 4.6lbs down! Hope it carries on like this as I have rubbish will power but with my suppression I’m having to make myself eat.
