Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

W3D1, 2.5mg injected in thigh. Lost 1.5lb, so 9lbs total.

SW: 273lb
CW: 264lb
GW: 154lb

JunoRoma · 15/12/2024 13:18

@Slimwannabe well done on the 9lb loss!

For those asking about the onset of suppression: for me the suppression seems to fully kick in around 24h after the injection.
W1 and W3 were a helpful level of suppression, whereas W2 was a bit much; I struggled to eat enough on days 2-4.

curlyk456 · 15/12/2024 13:38

I need a kick pls, iv had my mounjaro for 4 weeks in my fridge. Something just keeps coming up. Tbf we booked a last min holiday for 10 days so that prevented me. Now I was going to take it on Friday but I had a bday meal out. And I was going to do it today but feel really full and bloated today for some reason and have a lunch out on Tuesday. I need someone to tell me to just do it

Luxecalmeetvolupte · 15/12/2024 13:42

My first pen has arrived and I'm hoping to inject this evening - I'm wondering if it's OK on a full stomach, or if there's anything in particular I need to bear in mind?

I would suggest starting eating as if you are already on it (smaller portions, no fried or fatty foods, no high sugar foods) for a day before the first injection. If it slows down gastric emptying sooner than you're expecting, you won't want a load of non-MJ-friendly food still hanging around in your stomach from earlier.

JJDogmum · 15/12/2024 15:25

After a very rocky second week with side effects, I have reduced my 3rd dose to 1.25mgs and injected into my thigh for the first time - did this Thursday evening.

This morning my tummy was churning a bit and I was back and forth to the loo multiple times but by lunchtime I was feeling ok again - phew!

Good appetite suppression on the lower dose as well at the moment.

Hoping this is the sweet spot for me at the moment.

😊

closingtime101 · 15/12/2024 18:36

Had a friend’s holiday party today and had lots of champagne. Not eaten very much today so hoping it won’t impact on weight loss too much… but I can tell I was drinking a bit compulsively. 😞 feel a bit upset I fell back into old habits.

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 15/12/2024 20:32

Well done on your Losses @Slimwannabe and @CatRash ! That is great to hear.

@JJDogmum That is interesting, I never thought of reducing the dose. If my sicky feeling doesnt stop by next week I think I will try that too. But no side effects apart from that - no "eggy burps" despite my username 😁

Welcome to the newbies too, I hope this week goes well for you all

TrinityWaves · 15/12/2024 20:46

Interestingly, my best suppression was W2, better than W1 and current W3. I've got my 5mg pen in the fridge and want to move up to this when finished 2.5, I'm definitely fuller and less cravings but I've never had complete suppression and a good chunk of will power is going here. I think because I hate wasting money, I don't want to fail!

For newbies, I injected myself the day after having a big domino's (I ate a whole (!) medium pizza, massive dip, garlic bread and wedges) and was absolutely fine. I don't recommend it obviously but also don't panic if you've just injected and had a binge the day before.

@EggyBurpsNotEggyBread I got the idea from someone on this website who’d had a similar experience to me and found the lower dose worked as well with less side effects and not so much suppression, they could eat healthily.
There’s quite a lot of discussion about micro dosing on various forums. It is off licence use and there’s no clinical data but it has so far been positive for me.
Whether it wears off sooner, remains to be seen as the week goes on.
Lack of food noise and appetite suppression were strong for me on 2.5mgs so I’ll see how it goes.

Luxecalmeetvolupte · 15/12/2024 20:52

Did my first pen at 8pm, it was actually much easier than I thought and much less complicated than the instructions and diagram would have you believe! The journey begins...

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 15/12/2024 21:40

@JJDogmum - please let me know how the suppression goes through the week!

W1D4
Little update on how things are going. So overall, no cravings - completely not had any crisps or savoury snacks or fizzy drinks. SINGLE little sneakers from celebration box. Even though they are in plain sight (due to kids) lol. But surprisingly one was enough 😮.
Not really feeling hungry until dinner and no snacks after.
It's like food is not always on my mind like before.
Only side effect is constipation.

I'm on levothyroxine and don't usually lose weight without an extreme exercise routine.
Shall see at the end of the week if I'm down any lbs.
Good luck to everyone starting.

I'm on levothyroxine too, having struggled to stabilise weight, with a tendency to still put on weight despite dieting. I'm on week 2 day 3 and am currently 9.6Ibs down. it's very strange suddenly to be the type of person that can forget to eat

CatRash · 15/12/2024 22:08

@landobroken Thank you....kicked in D2 but I did it around 3pm on D1 so there wasn't much of that day left tbh!

@curlyk456 As someone who did it immediately after it arrived I'd say such crack on and do it! That is coming from someone with virtually zero bad side effects though!

@EggyBurpsNotEggyBread Thank you!

CrystalDeCanter · 15/12/2024 22:15

@curlyk456 mate just take it! What are you waiting for? There's always going to be something in the diary. I know this is a busy time of year but what are you afraid of?

You will still be able to socialise, have fun, enjoy going out. You'll just be eating a bit less. No biggie.

We had friends over for lunch on Saturday, I ate a smaller portion than everyone else and didn't pick at food all day like I normally would. I also found I could drink a glass of wine but not get bingey and finish the bottle like I usually would. I managed to have a good time and didn't need to eat dinner in the evening and - this is a first for me - had no hangover on Sunday Grin

ohmyohmy123 · 15/12/2024 23:21

@curlyk456

A friend of mine didn't start hers when I did at the end of November. - I'm now a stone lighter and she is gutted that she didn't start.

I eat what I want, can still enjoy a drink etc but i eat smaller portions and realised that for been binging on crap for 10 years so I'm loving that I can have a main course and enjoy it wltjout needing sides and a pudding.

There's no time like the present - you could lose a few pound before Xmas and will feel so much better for it!

lovelyjably · 15/12/2024 23:49

9.6lb that is an amazing loss! Thanks for sharing, it's very encouraging.
Today was W1D6 the suppression is maybe getting slightly reduced now that I'm almost at the end of the first week. Did you find the suppression increased again with injecting W2 dose?
I've read here some people felt more suppression on W2 than W1.

I will inject my second dose early Tuesday morning and weigh myself 🫣

@HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow sorry I forgot to tag my reply

curlyk456 · 16/12/2024 00:38

Ahh thanks , right I'm doing it in the morning! Was out from 3pm til 10pm today so didn't get a chance. Going to marrakech in about a months time so defo want to be a lil lighter for it. Just feel so shit in all my clothes. I'm not a big eater, I don't drink, I go gym often, but I think my low thyroid and hormones are working against me. I need to do something as I'm the heaviest iv ever been and I hate it

CrystalDeCanter · 16/12/2024 01:15

@curlyk456 I hear you! But honestly just go for it. I'm on w3 d4 and am over 4kg down. It's a bloody miracle

LouisaPesel · 16/12/2024 08:14

@JJDogmum I'm interested in how you get on. Nausea since jab#2 means I'm going to skip next couple of jabs (this Wed &Xmas Day) with a view to resuming on NYD.

Yes I found suppression on week 2 day 1 stronger than in week 1. I struggle to eat a bit that day. It settled back to the previous level before.

At the moment I'm thinking I might stay on 2.5 I have great suppression and hardly and side effects and weight is falling off (week 2 day 4 -10.4 Ib)

ChloeCannotCanCan · 16/12/2024 10:19

SW 15st 13lb (BMI 38.3)
CW 14st 13 lb ( BMI 35.9)
GW 10st (BMI 24)
Losses: 7, 5, 2

I'm on W4 D1 and just taken my fourth injection of 2.5 - I've lost a stone in 3 weeks which is pretty amazing really, and am having minimal side effects. I do think the suppression is going down though - I've eaten more the last few days and more willpower has been needed!

I've just had my progress call with my provider and we've decided to increase my dose to 5mg next pen - I don't want to slow down my progress for the sake of a few days over Christmas but I'm also wondering if going up a dose on the 23rd December is the greatest of ideas...

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 16/12/2024 10:42

Well done!

I am due to take my next 2.5 tomorrow. Then the third on Christmas Eve. But I'm now considering taking them both a day early as I don't want to be wiped out on Christmas Day. Has anyone done this?
