Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

Thanks @landobroken - fingers crossed it goes as easily as my first day was - no pain, no side effects.

Thanks for suggestions how to increase protein intake as a vegetarian. I've felt nauseous all day and nothing appeals.

I don't regret starting MJ but am considering pausing the 3rd dose until after Christmas - not so I can pig out but in the hope that the nausea goes away and I can enjoy the family get togethers that start next weekend.

Happy to share recipes if that would help? Heartily recommend the East cookbook too, it's got a great tofu section, but my obsession is the coconut dahl with tomato sambol. Could eat it daily.

Hi, I'm W2D2. Has anyone found they had less appetite suppression in the second week? I injected yesterday and feel peckish in a way I didn't last week.
Maybe I need more fluids?

Yes, def got hunger pangs more this week, but could still resist junk food.

BigTightropeWalker · 14/12/2024 22:16

Thanks @Slimwannabe I'm a tiny bit disappointed coz I was expecting the same again this week, but it's still far better than my usual cravings!

@shrinkingthiswinter it is amazing isnt it - as you said, just a tiny amount of liquid to transform us. It is like a miracle, seriously!

Weigh day today=

SW 7/12/24 15st 3lbs
CW 14/12/24 14st 8lbs
9lbs lost this week! So happy that I could do a little jig (and may have done...)

I have also been doing C25K and am on the last run of Week 2, so am enjoying that challenge too. It has given me something extra to focus on now that food isnt my main one.

I will take my injection tonight, I should have done it last night but as I am still feeling that slight sicky feeling I contacted Voy who suggested maybe to wait until that subsides a bit.

I have been eating around 800 cals a day, so I realise I have to be careful not to undereat and my body stops losing.

It might be worth checking what daily calories should look like with a healthy defecit as 800 sounds very low, although not surprising if you've had a lot of nausea.

(Says the fatarse aiming for 1700-1800).

Oh, me too! Week on was WOW! But I think psychology and expecting a difference plays a big part, once that wears off it gets a little harder 😓

Good luck @Anley !

I'm terrified to take my first one tomorrow 🙈🙈🙈🙈

Please don't feel terrified. It is daunting. I was worried. But I'm on day 4 of week 1 and I've lost 4kg.
I honestly can't believe the boost it has given me to keep healthy eating and going to the gym.
Let us know how you get on! This site has been so helpful for me this week, the support is amazing.

I'm starting to feel a bit unwell. After a successful week#1 I'm really hungry but don't fancy anything so I'm eating kitkats to suppress the nausea - unsurprisingly that's not working 🙄

Think I'm going to have to up my protein intake. I'm veggie and don't eat eggs so will have to have a think ...

Have you tried roasted chickpeas? I do mine with a tsp of oil per can, plus salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Keep well inan air-tight container. Also sainsburys do a salt and pepper nut mix that's 10g of protein per 30g portion that i add to salads, along with edamame.

It's scary to inject, but once you've done one you'll be fine. Realising that if you don't like it, you don't need to take it again helped me.

mrsdavegrohl0 · 15/12/2024 01:58

W1D3 on my first Mounjaro jab.

Awful upper stomach and back pain accompanied by diarrhoea and sulphur burps.

Any advice on how to minimise the symptoms? Didn't expect this so quickly! Haven't eaten anything fatty so not sure of the cause.

CountryVic · 15/12/2024 02:08

I took my first injection yesterday, hoping to loose 10 kilos in 8 weeks, then will set another goal. Start weight 94kilos or as per the conversion 14 stone and 11.23 lb, - 1 stone is just over 6 kilos so I’ll round up a bit.

delightfuldaisy19 · 15/12/2024 08:43

W1D5, I’ve had no real side effects apart from a little bit of nausea yesterday. Went out for dinner last night and had to bring half of my meal home in a doggy bag (it was so delicious that I’m going to have it for dinner later today) despite not eating anything else all day.

Even more surprising is that I’ve woken up today with a little bit of a hangover and usually this would trigger a day of eating ALL of the salty snacks in the house but I’m still not particularly hungry.

Weird!!!

landobroken · 15/12/2024 08:46

Eeep - I have just done my first dose! So nervous hope I don't have too many side effects!

I also took my first injection yesterday. Had some heartburn last night but so far feel ok.

CatRash · 15/12/2024 09:06

Good luck to all the new starters! Enjoy the peace around food....I can only describe it as walking into the kitchen with blinkers and ear defenders on - I don't see and hear the food like I used to!

Week one complete and lost 7lb!! Half a stone without trying 😵‍💫 What kind of witchcraft is this?! I even had a Burger King for dinner last night 😅 (Not a regular occurrence but we forgot to get anything out for dinner and needed something quick.)

My side effects have been minimal tbh....I started my period 3 days ago so think that's what the headaches were about as I get hormonal headaches. So only real symptom was thirst! I'll take that!

Supposed to do next dose today but going to wait until tomorrow morning as Monday mornings would be more convenient going forward.

SW 13st 4lb
CW 12st 11lb

landobroken · 15/12/2024 09:12

Amazing well done! @CatRash

When did the feeling of suppression kick in for you? Was it day 1? I'm just wondering what to expect'

JunoRoma · 15/12/2024 09:38

It's interesting seeing where the weight is lost from.
My thighs are definitely smaller; my previously snug leggings are slightly baggy around the legs.
I've lost a noticeable amount of fat from my breasts, to their detriment. 😢
I haven't noticed much loss around my tummy which still looks very round, but the tape measure says I've lost 7cm. The beginnings of a waist are starting to emerge, or at least I can now tell where my waist will be.

Reetpetitenot · 15/12/2024 10:12

Have name changed as a couple of people 'know who I am' 😁Started yesterday with SW of 120.3 kg. GW is 85kg but I'll be happy with anything under 90.
No side effects yet. Not sure about suppression - don't feel like eating but I don't eat breakfast usually anyway. Bit worried about constipation because it's something I suffer from occasionally anyway.

NonVedoIlMare · 15/12/2024 10:19

W1D5 - woke up last night ravenously hungry, stomach growling such that it took ages for me to get back to sleep. So I figured that was it for the medicine working for me this week. But I just had one slice of peanut butter on toast for breakfast and I am really satisfied and full up so it is obviously still doing something!

closingtime101 · 15/12/2024 10:34

W2 D3 today. So far I have lost 5lbs which I am happy with. I think a slow and steady loss is what I’m after.
@mrsdavegrohl0 this is what happened to me on W1D3 too. I just ate plain food and let it pass, which it did after about 15 hours. Chewed Rennies for the sulphur burps which were so disgusting!!

LouisaPesel · 15/12/2024 10:54

That's very kind @Slimwannabe - I'd appreciate that. DM me if you like.

Feeling better today after sleeping a lot yesterday.

I'd hate my couple of days of nausea to put anyone off starting. I've lost 8 or 9lbs since starting less then a fortnight ago!

I am W1 D5 too and I am hungry today. I did have a few drinks last night which is not helping.
There's so many snacks in the kitchen but I'm just trying to ignore them and drink water.

NonVedoIlMare · 15/12/2024 11:26

@saj90 sounds like you are my mounjaro twin. I also had wine last night. Still feeling quite optimistic though, after all this is just the starter dose and I definitely have felt appetite suppression effects and eaten less.

Going to try my best to stick with healthy eating and small portions until my next jab on Wednesday.

It really does! We have mirrored side effects all week. It's really reassuring to know someone else is going through the same.

NonVedoIlMare · 15/12/2024 11:33

@saj90 I was a bit surprised though to wake up and be unable to sleep due to hunger. I mean I had a cream cheese bagel with smoked salmon for dinner. It was hardly a negligible quantity of food. Mind you this is the type of thing that usually happens to me and why I can't stick to diets long term. But this time I just need to do a couple of days before getting some assistance.
