Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

Thank you @closingtime101 and @ChloeCannotCanCan I'm trying to trust the process but I think I feel I'm destined to fail as I was doing everything I could to try and lose weight for 2 years with no success, week after week expecting the scales to go down and seeing them stay the same or go up which was heartbreaking when I was trying so hard. Even went to the Dr to make sure there was nothing underlying and everything came back fine.

I'm just fed up of being this fat, I actually hate myself and have no self confidence. A big self pity moment over and I'm going to keep on keeping on!

ChloeCannotCanCan · 12/12/2024 08:51

Hi @Bananaram that does sound a bit dispiriting if you are managing to stay on such a small amount of calories.

Have you tried anything else? A friend of mine who was having little success with traditional calorie counting started intermittent fasting last year and it's really working for her. She doesn't eat anything between 6pm and 10am and then eats 2 small meals between 10 and 6. Same amount of calories as before but in a shorter space of time. She feels like it's somehow reset her internal system and feels a lot better for it, and had lost a stone. If you are interested there's a book which explains it www.waterstones.com/book/life-in-the-fasting-lane/jason-fung/eve-mayer/9781788174060

Hi all!

I'm on W2D1 of 2.5mg. I did my first weigh-in yesterday and I'd lost 4lb which I'm pretty pleased with considering I usually lose weight so slowly. I'm really hoping this continues over the next few weeks!
I must admit I'm absolutely dreading Christmas week, I have family coming to stay and as I haven't told anyone I'm on the MJ (not even DH) I really don't know how I'm going to 'lie' my way through the reason I'm not eating as I normally would at this time of year. I'm determined to lose weight though as my BMI is 41 and my knees/hips/feet are beginning to suffer under the strain.

My first week side effects have been a mixture of feeling lethargic, nauseous, cold/shivery, feeling very full after eating small portions, however on a few occasions I've felt elated, emotionally stronger, 'in control' and generally happy that I can finally achieve the weight loss I've been trying to do for a good 5-6 years now!

I'm loving reading all your messages and I wish you all the best of luck on your journeys!

Yeah I’ve decided to wait until after Christmas Day to start, as I’m staying with family, who will notice I’m not eating much, and also I know they’ve gone to great expense and effort. Also they have very young kids so if I’m feeling sick there’s no chance of any rest! Aunty duties will be fully required.

Im only telling my DP. He has always been slim, and struggles to keep weight on, so doesn’t understand my plight. It makes me realise how much body type, sex, genetics, hormones etc play a role in weight as we eat the same food yet he’s thin and I’m fat, and I’m the sporty one!

We did ivf a good few years ago and that involved a shit load of needles so we’re used to me dipping into modern techniques for medical assistance. I’m just hoping this goes better than the ivf! 😆

Also, I am incredibly thirsty!! Has anyone else had that?

Interesting, I've had the opposite. I usually have back to back drinks and now I'm only drinking with meals or occasional sips of water. It's as if the compulsion to drink excessively has gone along with the food thoughts

Slimwannabe · 12/12/2024 10:27

ChloeCannotCanCan · 11/12/2024 22:08

No, I'm taking mine bang on the schedule- it feels weird injecting myself with a drug not prescribed by the Dr so I'm following the instructions as closely as possible!

Same here!

dubmimi · 12/12/2024 10:30

Week 2 day 1 here & I'm 5lb down in total. I'm really happy with that. I'm hoping to do it slowly & on Saxenda,so daily injections, and stayed on the low dose for 10 days instead of 7.
The biggest benefit for me is the pain in my c-section scar is now virtually gone, it was obvious it was the pressure of my bloated stomach that was causing the pain. Non scale victory!

It's utterly shit when others seem to be having rapid huge losses and you aren't. If it makes you feel any better I've had a big loss wk1, but massively slowed down for wk2 so far. Try to remember first that there was a loss, so even if a small loss, it's just the beginning of your downward trend. Secondly, there are so many factors that affect weight and can affect the results on the scale. Try measuring inches as well, as sometimes the result is there and not on the scale.

We're all early days, and in 14 weeks that 1lb will have become a 1st loss!

If the loss remains slow but steady you might find the slow losers thread helpful too.

Just did the first dose. Was surprisingly scary to inject myself with something. Does anyone know if eating less reduces the chance of side effects?

My prvider said regular meals, or more small meals, can help with side effects as it keeps your blood sugar and metabolism stable.

Slimwannabe · 12/12/2024 10:41

Suppression definitely not as strong for me this week as I had a rumbly tummy this morning! Totally irrationally I'm blaming it on my injection technique and the fact it bruised/bled, think in my head all the medication dribbled out 🤣

Still managing to hold my willpower though, resisted all the office chocs yesterday, and still able to eat based on what's good for me rather than what I fancy. Pizza cravings still haven't returned, so that's a win for me!

Thank you. So far I haven't noticed any effects at all, good or bad.

Well done - that is a definite win! Resisting chocs at any time deserves a medal 👌

Weigh in day.
This is after 4 weeks, but only the last 2 of those were on a proper dose of 2.5mg.

SW 107kg
CW 100.5kg
GW 75kg

Lost 6.5kg so far, which if my maths is correct, is a stone! 🪨

Well done! That's an excellent result - what does your typical food day look like?

B:
yakult
mix of granola & milled flaxseed with semi-skimmed milk
apple

L:
vegetable soup
protein bagel with thinly spread light soft cheese

D: (varies a lot, this was yesterday)
baked sweet potato with crumbled feta
chocolate orange shake: chocolate protein powder with 50:50 orange juice and water

JunoRoma · 12/12/2024 13:01

I don't eat meat or fish, so have to be quite intentional with the protein.
Some other dinners that are working well for me at the moment:

Couscous salad with chickpeas, grilled halloumi & courgette, plum tomatoes.

Vegetarian version of kedgeree (going easy on the spices at the moment): rice, boiled eggs, tofu, courgette.

Miso soup with silken tofu and rice noodles.

Hopefully the saiety and suppression will start to build up along with the medication in your system!

Vegetarian here too! I've become quite creative with my tofu! Singapore tofu noodles, peanut tofu protein bowl, coconut-soy crusted tofu with yellow curry, gochujang tofu steaks... i'm surprised my meat-eating DH hasn't complained!

W1D6 here and Ive been feeling okay only side effect is that I am waking after a few hours sleep then going back down and having super vivid dreams!

Just weighed myself... couldnt wait until tomorrow! And I am stunned!

I have lost 8lbs in 6 days! That is mad and very motivating although I am aware I may lose nothing next week!

This stuff really works!
So far so good.

It is unbelievable really that I am down half a stone in such a short time. Still mustnt get too carried away got Christmas meals/nights out x 3 to tackle over the next 4 days!

That's so good that your pain has gone! I have osteoarthritis and I know a lot of my hip pain is because of the weight I'm carrying, hoping losing it will help with the pain.

Hopefully it continues for you! I have one meal out on Saturday but I'm hoping the food choice's available will be quite healthy, as I'm worried about the side effects of eating the wrong kind of foods.
