Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

@LC4life I can't remember when I last weighed under 100kg so getting below that (albeit arbitrary) marker will feel like quite an achievement.

Similar to you, I've been trying to eat more protein, more fibre, less fat and (a lot) less sugar. And I do feel much better for it.

I realise this initial rate of loss won't continue, but hope to lose a couple more kg in the next month (Christmas nonwithstanding).

NonVedoIlMare · 12/12/2024 16:19

Actually I just ate a yogurt that tasted outrageously sweet which was unusual. I am definitely not starving hungry either which I usually am by this time of day. But I could easily eat if I wanted to. Just don't want to. Quite exciting stuff! Onwards to a dinner of fish and veggies that won't be followed up by two slices of toast because I am starving.

closingtime101 · 12/12/2024 16:31

I feel like a bit of a cautionary tale today as i didn’t have any breakfast, and then went to the cinema and had some popcorn instead of lunch. Ended up being sick on the train on the way home. Lesson learned - make sure I eat nutritious things. I got carried away with the appetite suppression I think.

Oh no, you poor thing! Hopefully it didn't spoil your cinema trip.

Maybe this is truly how MJ works - makes you scared to eat junk food in case you're sick!

Week 2 day 1 for me. Just injected this afternoon.
Summary of the week -

Appetite suppression didn't hit until day 2. I basically woke up and just didn't fancy food at all! My stomach hasn't rumbled all week up until today. So strange. I'm just eating to fuel and it feels amazing.

No negative side effects, and as @NonVedoIlMare said I could eat all my usual junk I just don't fancy it. DH had a chippy last night and I would usually have a large bag of chips, cheese, mushy peas etc... inside I just had a small bowl out of his large bag. Looking at his amount of food just made me feel queasy to be honest. MJ has helped me so much as my portions were out of control!

Looking forward to the week ahead x

mrsdavegrohl0 · 12/12/2024 23:17

My package arrived today after first photos were rejected by Medexpress, second lot were accepted and I injected into my thigh about 2 hours ago.

Forgot to weigh so will do that tomorrow morning and won't check again until a week is up. Hoping side effects will be minimal.

On levothyroxine and perimenopausal so hoping side effects will be minimal as perimenopause is bad enough!!!

ChloeCannotCanCan · 13/12/2024 08:07

@mrsdavegrohl0 well done for getting started - I think the thought of the first injection is the worst!

raspberrymeringue · 13/12/2024 08:08

I agree having an injection seems so much more daunting than taking a pill.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 13/12/2024 08:29

First week completed, injected again last night. Suppression from the first morning after injection the night before. No real side effects to note, one day were it felt like I'd done sit ups after a meal but no nausea. Easy portion control, occasional unable to finish even small portions.
I thought I'd avoided constipation, but it's crept in in the last two days, I think I'll increase my water.

SW 14 stone 3.8
CW 13 stone 10.8
GW 11 stone

So half a stone lost in 1 week, which is incredible. I'm on levothyroxine and menopausal and normally struggle to lose any weight at all. So I'm super pleased.

littlebirdieblu · 13/12/2024 08:38

@mrsdavegrohl0 well done for doing it, hope you have a good first week!

littlebirdieblu · 13/12/2024 08:39

@HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow wow half a stone, that's fantastic!! Hope your 2nd week goes well too.

littlebirdieblu · 13/12/2024 08:42

Woke up with a headache again today, and constipation Confused but no other side effects. Still not feeling suppression but I'm still sticking to my calorie allowance, hoping my next injection gives me the suppression, that will be on Tuesday, so a few days to get through first.

FiftynFooked · 13/12/2024 08:57

I’ve weighed this morning as I’m away at the weekend. 5lbs down since Sunday 😳 I’ve had hardly any side effects, have more energy and feel bloody great! 😃

One strange side effect yesterday though. Had a small glass of wine and my face was burning up! The only thing I found that calmed it down was two paracetamol. Never ever had a thing like it before so can only think it’s a side effect. Anyone else had similar? Son’s big birthday celebrations this weekend so I’m going to be very cautious with the booze.

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 13/12/2024 09:32

@HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow @FiftynFooked amazing losses well done!

landobroken · 13/12/2024 10:03

Hi all

My first pen is coming on Monday. Bit scared to start before Christmas in case I feel awful and have to tell everyone! Going to keep this between me and DH for now. Should I start or wait?

MaybeMrs · 13/12/2024 10:07

I've been approved by Chemist4you but still waiting for dispatch! Been 3 days now! Really want to get started.

CatRash · 13/12/2024 10:39

W1D6 here. No real side effects except thirsty and occasional headaches but nothing to really complain about. Definite suppression....I imagine this is what naturally slim people eat like. They don't eat and then think 'oooh what else can I have?'.

I can stop part way through a meal and just feel 'done'. I don't need cake/cookies/biscuits - I've had a satsuma after my dinner instead as that's genuinely what I've fancied and I don't want/need/or even think about anything else.

I'm not calorie counting or dieting in any way - just eating what I want, when I want it, although I am trying to create balanced normal meals. I just want to eat in a normal, sustainable way - it's all I've ever wanted to be honest!

My daughter's are still young but such good, intuitive eaters - they would happily stop halfway through eating and have had enough, they often have fruit for dessert (and choose it over other things etc). - they're my inspiration!

Well done on everyone's losses so far and welcome to anyone just starting!

Sorry for the waffle 😅

I was also concerned about Christmas / get togethers etc. but decided if I don't start now I'll keep putting it off.
No idea how I'll 'hide' it from my family. At the end of the day I'm doing this for me, so if they suspect anything I don't really care.

I'm on W1 - day 3. Feel much better today. Overate last night and felt so full. But still my overeating was nothing compared to a week ago. I haven't weighed myself but I feel different.
Feeling a little hungry today but going to drink lots of water.
The dreams were so vivid last night. Very intense.

closingtime101 · 13/12/2024 11:56

@landobroken I was going to wait till after Christmas to start, because I wanted to “enjoy myself” but I knew I would just overeat way past the point of enjoyment. You can just say you have a tummy bug if you feel rough.

Ive decided to just tell everyone from the outset that im on it. Its so weird how we feel so embarrassed and judged with things related to obesity - if i had a chest infection I'd happily tell people I'm on antibiotics and im taking medication to help me get better. So far (to my face, at least) people have been positive

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 13/12/2024 12:50

I imagine this is what naturally slim people eat like. They don't eat and then think 'oooh what else can I have?' 100%

It's a revelation isnt it - that people don't wake up thinking about what they are going to eat that day!! When people say "it is so easy to lose weight, eat less and move more" - if their brains are wired like mine has been since Saturday, easy peasy!

W1 Day 7 - no side effects beyond an underlying nausea but not hard to put up with. Prefer that to hunger pains.

I am feel slightly more hungry today so I presume the suppression is lessening. Will take my next dose tonight and weigh day tomorrow!

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 13/12/2024 13:30

Today I started worrying that Christmas post may impact on delivery. My 1st dose of the second pen would be on the 2nd of January and with Xmas I've decided to order another 2.5 pen as I have good suppression at the moment.

Am I jumping the gun and should I plan to move to 5 instead.

What are other people's experiences as they get to week 3 and 4?

alfamad · 13/12/2024 17:22

Started using mounjaro on Tuesday and my partner started last Sunday.
My appetite is suppressed but still getting hungry, just not as intense. Had a piece of toast at 10am, it's now 5pm and I'm hungry. I never would have got past lunchtime previously on a piece of toast!
