Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

Wow, that is a great side effect!

I was thinking yesterday how even though it is expensive, how much we actually are saving on food and snacks. I reckon atm I am spending about £10 a week on food for me, saving £15 just in that. If I was going to SW I would be paying a fiver, plus all of the food.

Just helps me get my head around spending £150 approx a month on myself 😃probably only works out at about £20 a week.

I usually have a takeaway a week which is £35-40 so this is literally costing the exact same as that. Also, it's an investment in our health :)

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 11/12/2024 11:20

@TrinityWaves Wow!!!!!!!!!!!! Well done that is amazing. You must be so pleased

Im so tired too, really struggled to wake up this morning. I did get up at 8am to make the dc their packed lunch but went back to bed after.

Im trying to find some energy/courage/motivation to go to the gym. I signed up yesterday full of enthusiasm but now I'm remembering how much i dislike exercise. I have told myself just to go, it doesnt matter how little i do, because even a little is better than none

Julesni77 · 11/12/2024 12:20

@OrangeDonald really try and get to gym, once you get into a routine you might find it gives you more energy

My first jab is definitely wearing off but am just relying on discipline which is easy for a day or 2 and then I plan to bring my jab forward to tomorrow see how I go
No junk or anything and protein is good but I'm nudging up to 2000 cals a day which is still a good deficit for me

Have you tried classes? I'm not a huge gym lover but finding a class you enjoy helps. I can't stand HIIT, but can tolerate spin or weights.
Even just getting your steps in will help.

Zobow48 · 11/12/2024 14:31

Hi had my first jab today at the pharmacy so excited to see how it goes however im hoping i can find a you tube video on how to do the next injection myself

shrinkingthiswinter · 11/12/2024 15:06

@OrangeDonald I hate cardio so I thought I didn't like the gym, but it turns out I love strength training, including own body weight stuff. I had a PT about once a month for a year to help me learn what to do and that has been helpful. Have got much stronger and fitter and more comfortable all over my body. So as saj says, maybe it's just about finding what works for you and saying stuff it to the rest.

@saj90 I'm very thirsty today too. Drinking lots tea.

Not feeling much hunger, not interested in food. No nausea. So that's all great so far.

The thing I'm finding a bit difficult is that I'd already been cutting back on food intake plus eating more carefully (protein and veg mostly) and had probably got that calibration wrong, because over the last week I lost 2.2kg, which is rather a lot. And yesterday, especially after the gym, I started feeling a bit lightheaded. So now I'm not hungry, but feeling a bit vague. I want to lose weight (ideally quite rapidly) but I also need to function well, and not sure where that balance lies.

My fasting blood sugar has been a bit high for at least some months and possibly ages (6.1, so just over the good range) and I wonder if the last week or so of more radical change in my diet finally got it down and my body is just used to a higher level. Especially my brain is used to having more immediate fuel.

shrinkingthiswinter · 11/12/2024 15:07

@Zobow48 I got sent a video with instructions when I was prescribed the pen - that must be usual? I was a bit worried but it was super easy.

That's really interesting.

My nausea has gone, and luckily I have some holidays left to take so took a half day to come home for a sleep. Still not eaten though. Really hope the tiredness subsides so I can get back in the gym tomorrow.

Completely agree about strength training. It's really rewarding.

shrinkingthiswinter · 11/12/2024 20:30

@rossogingerale how are you doing? How’s your decision going? Sounds like a lot to think about. Is GP helpful?

JunoRoma · 11/12/2024 20:50

End of week 2 on 2.5mg: the effects this week (appetite suppression and feeling full for hours after a small meal) have been noticeably stronger than in week 1 and were still present on day 7, which I wasn't expecting.

I took the third dose this evening as scheduled, hopefully the effects won't be stronger than last week or I will struggle to get enough protein / fibre in.

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 11/12/2024 21:02

If the suppression is still strong on day 7, do people hold off their next dose until it starts to wane?

ShadowVixen85 · 11/12/2024 21:15

Hi everyone, had my first injection on Monday 9th and will weigh weekly, no negative side effects as of yet. I’m so excited for this journey, good luck everyone😊

Height: 5ft 7in
SW: 19st 8.5lb
GW: 14st 8lb

I don't know? I've taken it now, so too late.

I've also read things from people who started developing side effects related to stomach not emptying (sulfur burps, vomiting, diarrhoea) after the third dose (presumably as levels build up in the body) so slightly nervous about that.

Bananaram · 11/12/2024 21:38

Well it was my first weigh in after my first 2.5mg dose last week, lost 1lb.

I'm just going to admit I'm slightly gutted, I did feel some appetite surpression and had definitely cut down on snacking. I roughly track calories so know I was staying well within the amount of calories I can have per day to lose a lb per week, but when others are having loses of 5lbs+ per week it's disheartening (before anyone points out that it's just a starter dose and some people don't lose until they go up a dose, I know, I'm just having my pity party moment)

Not sure WHY I'm surprised, I've been trying to lose weight and calorie counting for 2 years without losing anything so it shouldn't be a surprise, but I'm just so scared in case this won't work for me and then I don't know what I'll do. 😔

closingtime101 · 11/12/2024 21:51

@Bananaram sorry you’re feeling disheartened. I don’t know how well it’s working for me yet (Week 1 Day 5). I’m just going to be patient (which is very unlike me!) and hope that I get there. But I know the feeling, I so hope this works.

NonVedoIlMare · 11/12/2024 21:53

Just did the first dose. Was surprisingly scary to inject myself with something. Does anyone know if eating less reduces the chance of side effects?

ChloeCannotCanCan · 11/12/2024 22:06

I'm on W3 D3 and, after having no side effects at all, I've suddenly started feeling nauseous. Low lying all day and getting worse after I've eaten - I hope this passes as I hate feeling sick!

It also chimes with @EggyBurpsNotEggyBread theory that side effects kick in after week 3 Envy

ChloeCannotCanCan · 11/12/2024 22:06

@Bananaram don't be disheartened, your body has to adjust and it sounds like you are doing all the right things.

No, I'm taking mine bang on the schedule- it feels weird injecting myself with a drug not prescribed by the Dr so I'm following the instructions as closely as possible!

LupiLoops · 11/12/2024 23:24

Hi all!

I'm on W2D1 of 2.5mg. I did my first weigh-in yesterday and I'd lost 4lb which I'm pretty pleased with considering I usually lose weight so slowly. I'm really hoping this continues over the next few weeks!
I must admit I'm absolutely dreading Christmas week, I have family coming to stay and as I haven't told anyone I'm on the MJ (not even DH) I really don't know how I'm going to 'lie' my way through the reason I'm not eating as I normally would at this time of year. I'm determined to lose weight though as my BMI is 41 and my knees/hips/feet are beginning to suffer under the strain.

My first week side effects have been a mixture of feeling lethargic, nauseous, cold/shivery, feeling very full after eating small portions, however on a few occasions I've felt elated, emotionally stronger, 'in control' and generally happy that I can finally achieve the weight loss I've been trying to do for a good 5-6 years now!

I'm loving reading all your messages and I wish you all the best of luck on your journeys!

littlebirdieblu · 12/12/2024 06:43

Morning everyone, WK1D3 I've woken up with no headache today so that's better than yesterday. Appetite suppression has not kicked in for me yet, and food noise is still very loud in the afternoon and evening. Hoping it kicks in soon as it was hard last night to stick to my calorie allowance, but I went to bed early instead of raiding the cupboards haha

LouisaPesel · 12/12/2024 07:22

First week done and I've lost 6 pounds.

Happy with that and the suppression of "food noise" though sugar craving does seem to be creeping back today. Guess I'll just have to harness some willpower which has never been a strength of mine 🙄

Bloody NuMan have ignored my email to NOT send second package at £200 and I've got a message it's being delivered today.

shrinkingthiswinter · 12/12/2024 07:33

Now I see what people meant by the vivid dreams. Not unpleasant, but definitely vivid.

Morning. I'm glad you are feeling better this morning. I'm counting today as W1 D2 seeing as I took my first jab at 8pm Monday. I definitely got a good sleep and feeling less lethargic. But I have a headache I can't shake. Only managed one very small meal yesterday.
I'm finding I'm not hungry, but I'm so used to eating / cooking a lot that it's in my head. Watching DH drink red wine and eat dairy milk last night didn't help Hmm
Very vivid dreams last night but that's normal for me.
