Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

Evening. Hope everyone is getting in ok. I'm just finishing W1D2. Had waves of nausea yesterday but nothing major. Took me a while to get off to sleep and my morning coffee made me feel really 🤢 In fact I stuck to tea until this afternoon and then managed a black coffee.

Food wise, I think my appetite is definitely suppressed. Had to go Xmas shopping today so breakfast was berry oats from Starbucks and a turkey toastie from Costa. In both cases I'd normally have been tempted towards something sweet as well but not today. Had a beef curry and rice for dinner and have finished both days at about 1300 cals which I'm happy with.

Well done everyone on their losses and hello to the newbies.

I'm on W3 D1 - I lost 7 lbs the first week and another 5lbs this week which I find incredible. I am lucky in that I haven't had any real side effects and the suppression is still strong. Just done jab no3 and feel like I'm getting the hang of it now!

Hello to all the newbies!

I have a gnarly bruise from my jab yesterday and the suppression is sky-high today to the extent I'm struggling to choke down food. Hoping it settles a little tomorrow!

Looked like some of the medication had dribbled back out of the injection site as well - has anyone had this?

I have a few drops of the liquid on my skin when I withdraw the needle - I don't think it's abnormal. A nurse on a different thread said she recommended counting to 20 after putting down the plunger before withdrawing the needle to maximise dosage and minimise bruising.

shrinkingthiswinter · 09/12/2024 19:18

My first pen arrived this evening! But... not the sharps to use it with. I spent 45 minutes in the phone queue to the pharmacy and apparently the rest of my prescriptions are coming tomorrow evening. So that was a bit annoying.

Still, I've now lost 1.6kg in a week just because suddenly so motivated. Was looking forward to the pen arriving and less willpower being involved though.

I'm also dithering a bit about timing. I'm going on a long flight next week and don't want an upset tummy for that. Also DH has booked amazing restaurants for holiday. But I figure I can just enjoy a little excellent food instead of stuffing myself.

shrinkingthiswinter · 09/12/2024 19:21

Also, I had a scare last week because the blood tests the online dr ordered before prescribing showed very high fasting blood sugar. But I had just had flu and covid jabs, which apparently can affect it. I ordered a home testing kit which arrived this morning and got 6.1, which was the same as I had in August, and is just slightly into the amber zone. So I think the high results were an aberration. But realising how much I don't want diabetes has been very motivating.

Ah thanks - that makes sense, the first time I jabbed I was watching a video guide and was distracted and left the needle in for a while, elwhereas this time I counted to 5 then took it out. Will leave it in a little longer next time!

Thanks Slimwannabe! I've had the delivery notice so it should be fine. Just a nuisance because I am supposed to pick a DC up at the airport and someone needs to be in for the parcel, so the logistics increase.

Luxecalmeetvolupte · 09/12/2024 21:04

Hi all, can I join? Having dithered for ages something just finally snapped into place yesterday and I placed my first order. Feels a bit more real now my photo's been verified and prescription confirmed. Like previous posters I considered waiting until after Christmas but I seem to feel like I have to eat any food that's there in case I never have any again, I reckon my hunter-gatherer gene has got stuck, so I feel like I'd quite like to be free of that over Christmas. Hope I don't have miserable side effects instead though.
My current weight is 16st 4, I'm 5ft 7 so carry it decently but my BMI is 36. Hoping to shift at least 4st of that and mainly for health reasons - I want to be able to move better and alleviate my joints, and be well prepped for perimenopause (I'm 41). And potentially buy more time before the T2 diabetes comes to call (extremely strong in my maternal line so pretty much a dead cert in due course).

I was the same! Now I'm on the jab I just feel pretty meh about the thought of all the Christmas food! 😂

At the end of the day I'll still indulge, just much less than usual - the best Christmas prezzie I can give myself is the weightloss. I did buy a tub of that M&S Christmas snack mix though and it cost a tenner, so there is absolutely no way I'm letting the husband eat it all himself, I will at the very least have a taste!

My bestie makes me an advent calendar each year and this time around all the sweeties are just collecting in a little pile as I have no interest in them! So far since starting my junk food tally is one bag of quavers and once mince pie. I'd normally do that in a day!

JunoRoma · 09/12/2024 21:49

@Luxecalmeetvolupte "I seem to feel like I have to eat any food that's there in case I never have any again."

This sounds familiar.
And a habit of eating in preparation for going out or doing something (even if I wasn't hungry), as I wouldn't want to risk getting hungry.
And an addiction to high-sugar (and often high-fat) foods.

shrinkingthiswinter · 09/12/2024 22:05

Who is everyone telling? I think it's great to have this thread because I'll keep quiet about it irl.

I've talked to DH - who is very jumpy about saying the wrong thing. And I've mentioned it briefly to my teenagers, since they'll notice the change in my eating, but I don't want to make a big deal.

I've also told my two closest colleague-friends because they'd notice too, and they are very supportive and saying just the right things, as I knew they would.

But people have so many hang ups about their own weight, and opinions about the right ways of doing things, I'm just going to keep schtum.

Also most of the friends who'd benefit most from these drugs wouldn't be able to afford them, which is rather awful, so I certainly don't want to be discussing this.

Slimwannabe · 09/12/2024 22:07

@shrinkingthiswinter I've just told the husband for now as it's very early days.

ohmyohmy123 · 09/12/2024 22:24

Has anyone ordered their next pen? I want to go somewhere else as it's cheaper but it's only letting me order the 2.5 and I want to go up to 5mg...anyone had this issue!

NavigatingMyLife · 09/12/2024 22:25

Evening all, thanks for your updates. W1D3 for me. I’ve felt hungrier today than on first 2 days but think I probably didn’t eat enough for the first 2 days. I’ve kept food in check easily today though. Really notice the difference for my picking tendencies - I’m just not bothering & it seems easy, the food I do eat fills me up. @ChloeCannotCanCan thats a great achievement - what foods are you eating ?

Thanks all.

ChloeCannotCanCan · 09/12/2024 22:37

Thanks @NavigatingMyLife I'm really happy with 12lbs off in 2 weeks - but I started at 15'13 so I've got a fair bit to lose.

My typical day is getting up at 7:30 and drinking a pint of water and then not eating until lunch about 12;30 - I don't really get hungry, I just start to feel a bit empty and feel I need to eat something. I'm trying to stick to small amounts of normal, healthy food. So I've been having a sandwich made of 1 slice of wholemeal bread with ham and a bit of butter and a side of kimchi or salad. Tea and water during the afternoon and then a small portion of dinner with the family - I'm not particularly avoiding anything, just eating smaller amounts. I don't fancy deserts or anything sweet and the urge to snack at night in front of the tv has gone. I used to have wine and crisps - which was my really bad habit - and now I sip mint tea! I'm logging everything on my Fitbit app and I reckon I'm on about 1,000 calories a day.

ChloeCannotCanCan · 10/12/2024 08:29

I'm also trying to eat my 5 portions of fruit and veg, I take a multivitamin designed for women my age with fish oils and I'm having a Yakut daily to help along my digestion!

MJDecember24 · 10/12/2024 12:13

Im going to have to meal plan quite carefully as I’m very prone to piles so I’ll need to make sure I’m eating regular meals with lots of fibre. If I end up constipated then it will be very bad news pain wise and could make me stop treatment. I’m thinking of starting on 1.25 just to test the water. The damn things have plagued me ever since I was a teenager, especially around my period when I retain water.

littlebirdieblu · 10/12/2024 12:19

Just took my first injection about 2 hours ago. Feeling good so far, and super excited I've started my journey!!

rossogingerale · 10/12/2024 13:00

Hi and so thankful to find this thread! My GP has suggested I have Mounjaro, quite scared tbh.

I'm type 2 diabetic, blood sugars all over the place following last bloods plus due to tamoxifen my liver has been noted again for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, plus slightly high blood pressure too.

I previously had hormone positive breast cancer, is there anyone else who has had breast cancer and taken Mounjaro? Thanks

MaybeMrs · 10/12/2024 13:07

Hi everyone. Can i ask who you ordered with? I tried with Asda but they just cancelled my order as they didn't like my photos!!
Thanks

Sorry if TMI - I've similarly suffered until a few months ago, when I started probiotic capsules from Holland and Barrett. I've been on the jab at 2.5 for 5 days, I had one day of feeling a bit constipated, but it improved the next day and i think it was just delayed due to lower food intake as it wasn't overly firm or uncomfortable.

I ordered with Voy - just sent you a PM with some details. They seem really good so far!

EggyBurpsNotEggyBread · 10/12/2024 14:29

Still amazed at the loss of appetite - I am forcing food in, can't believe it! No eggy burps yet so probably should change my username 😂

Sleeping better too as not overloading my stomach late at night.

saj90 · 10/12/2024 15:15

I'm planning to take my first 2.5mg tonight. I don't know why but I'm really nervous. Especially about side effects.
I wasn't going to tell anyone but have told my husband.
Just sitting writing a list of healthy foods to buy tonight. No real questions, just saying hello!
