Mounjaro DECEMBER Starters Support Thread 1

1000 replies

OnTheMJ · 29/11/2024 10:49

I've seen many suggestions to start a December started thread. As it's almost December, I decided to kick it off. This is a support thread for anyone who's just started or about to start their Mounjaro journey. It's always nice to chat with others at the same stage and encourage each other. I'm not very chatty myself due to disability but feel free to have a party here everyone!

What's everyone doing? Have you started? Mine is arriving today. I'll be starting on 1st december as I want my injection day to be sunday and have about 8 stones to lose. BMI is 41. I went with Boots first because of name but I'll likely be switching to a cheaper provider for my next order.

Week 1 weigh in results - 6.3lbs off! And 2nd injection done today- I'm delighted with that!

Congrats 👏 We're almost twins with the 1st wk loss and the jab day. Hope you have another great week!

@shrinkingthiswinter I'm sorry you had that experience. Mine was my nan though - I couldn't waste food and had to eat it all up, 'better in the tummy than in the bin'! So my tummy has always been the bin instead! I too am learning that it's okay to "waste food" if you're full or if it's bad. Sounds odd and wrong even writing it.

@OnTheMJ omg so we are!! Haha :) would be delighted for at least 2lbs off this week so get me to the lowest weight I was this year when I was calorie counting. I weight daily to get an average weekly loss so will keep you posted!

Was anyone else forced to eat up everything at primary school? At mine the dinner ladies made you sit sobbing onto your plate until you’d eaten everything, however disgusting it was (half warmed tinned tomatoes…). And you couldn’t choose what you were given or say how much.

I’ve realized that’s caused huge problems for me. I feel like food HAS to be eaten. If it’s on my plate or or the table or in the fridge, it’s got to be eaten up. But it doesn’t. I’ve got to learn that it doesn’t.

Yes. The food was absolutely disgusting. I used to hide food in my pockets and flush it down the toilet. Still have a phobia of any food produced in a canteen style environment and point blank refuse to eat it. I don't think this is related to my weight now however.

Hello all. First post! Jumping into this as I am currently on week 7 of Mounjaro and I am 18lbs down. I finished the 2.5mg and got my 5mg pen 2 weeks ago and did a 3.75mg shot last Friday and then this Friday I did the 5mg shot. I have had zero side effects until now….i have had such bad indigestion and a really bad stomach I assume this is just from a higher dose and I will adjust but I might go back down to 3.75mg next week.

OnTheMJ · 08/12/2024 21:20

Welcome @Rsp86 Sorry you're having a bad time of it recently. Yes going back down might be the way to go, maybe the 5mg is still too much for your system. I hope your stomach starts to feel better soon.

I've list another 4lb so I'm happy I'll see what happens next week to decide on going up or stay at 5mg

Fab result @murraymcgill - you must be well chuffed 😀

Hi @RRsp86
Great to have you here and with you being a few weeks ahead of many of us, it will be so good to hear your experience. 18lbs in 6 weeks is phenomenal 🙌
I hope your tummy settles overnight

CatRash · 09/12/2024 09:50

After the faff with my photos I received my pen really quickly....since when do Royal Mail deliver in Sundays?! Anyway, took it straight away because why not lol.

Luckily injections don't phase me and I had to do 6x weeks of daily injection following the birth of my first daughter so am no stranger to self injecting!

I feel really thirsty but that's about it! Anyone else get the thirst thing?

OnTheMJ · 09/12/2024 09:56

@CatRash I found your post about 'pointing to your belly incase they missed it' very funny. I forgot to mention it till I saw this post. You'd think you wouldn't need to resort to pointing out the bleeding obvious to them.😆 I'm glad you've finally gotten your pen and now on your way to weightloss.

I can't say I've experienced the thirst though but bone cold again this morning. Hope your week goes well.

Good morning to all and hope your week goes well too.💛

Hey all - did my first jag on Friday - on Saturday had awful trapped wind and stomach pains but immediate suppression almost! the gastric symptoms were easily alleviated with charcoal tablets and peppermint tea

Did a gym session this morning working up to 3 heavyish squats felt good - my pt is supportive just warned that if my calories drop too low it will affect performance

Feeling great today - hope you all have a great week ahead

I have decided to stay on as low a dose as I can for as long as I can - cancelled Voy subscription today (the pens were going up to £199 with them which is not feasible for me long term) and now going to look to do another month on 2.5mg if suppression remains good for another couple of weeks and shop around for the cheapest provider!

My main focus is on keeping protein up and activity levels at pre pen levels if possible

murraymcgill · 09/12/2024 11:46

@NorthernDeer hi I was 15st 4 when I started lost 14lbs on 2.5 no side effects I'm on 5mg from Friday

murraymcgill · 09/12/2024 11:49

@50somethingHRTaddict yeah definitely ill need to reorder soon and not sure to stay on 5 or go up to 7.5 😱

Did you find the suppression as good on the 5mg? And no side effects on the first 5mg? That's brilliant - I was so shocked when the effects were so immediate on the 1st 2.5mg! But only for 1 day!

Slimwannabe · 09/12/2024 12:56

Hello to all the newbies!

I have a gnarly bruise from my jab yesterday and the suppression is sky-high today to the extent I'm struggling to choke down food. Hoping it settles a little tomorrow!

Looked like some of the medication had dribbled back out of the injection site as well - has anyone had this?

murraymcgill · 09/12/2024 13:07

@Julesni77 yeah still the same I'm struggling to eat anything when it's late at night I could eat but by that time asking food isn't what I want to do so it's easy to grab crisps or chocolate but there's no point so it's to bed

closingtime101 · 09/12/2024 14:09

I didn’t feel anything at all until 48 hours post-injection and then suddenly had intense nausea, sulphur burps and diarrhoea last night… I was starting to worry it wouldn’t work for me. I went shopping earlier today and picked up some chocolate and just didn’t fancy it - put it back and walked on. I feel like the food noise has definitely reduced. It feels like a miracle, really. Those burps, though!! What a price to pay!

I keep hearing about these burps but luckily haven't experienced them yet! Sorry to hear about the nausea and dodgy tum, hopefully it is short-lived.

Goinghome20 · 09/12/2024 14:55

Day 3 of week 1 and I just cannot believe the difference in mindset. Its incredible how led by food I have been! Its like others have described it... quietness of mind from the "food noise" its like Ive been hypnotised. I actually do not even care how many pounds I lose. Just want to feel like this forever. Is this normal? I feel like I have had a brain transplant!

MJDecember24 · 09/12/2024 15:49

Hi everyone. My first pen has arrived but I’m worried about taking it, as I’m away this week, and then visiting family over Christmas. I’m wondering if I should wait until after Christmas to start. I don’t want to tell any relatives I’m taking it, and everyone will notice if I don’t eat a lot as I usually gorge myself.

has anyone got similar worries for around Christmas Day? Would it be best to time taking it so it’s kind of wearing off by Christmas Day?

I’m not very heavy (67kg) as I’m very short - my bmi is 28. I have high cholesterol and auto immune diseases that affect my joints so I really want to get my weight down to improve those. I’ve tried loads of diets but can never seem to lose more than 3kg which quickly get regained as I lose motivation. I worry that the side effects will be greater as I’m on the lighter side to begin with but not sure if it works like that.

frogpigdonkey · 09/12/2024 16:15

@MJDecember24 I had the same concerns, mine arrived early Dec. I basically decided to take it because if I didn't I'd see this Christmas as a last hurrah and gorge even more than usual and be facing an extra half stone when I started in January! I haven't had much in the way of side effects and I'm hoping that the appetite suppression will let me have some Christmas treats without gorging mindlessly for a week. But if you feel concerned 2 extra weeks won't make a lot of difference. Good luck!

murraymcgill · 09/12/2024 16:18

@MJDecember24 hi I started November 8th im on week 1 of 5mg feel the same os 2.5 but hopefully that changes get more weight off xmas is really changed this year food wise I don't know what I'll do

DiggityDawg · 09/12/2024 16:25

Weirdly, I am having hunger pangs again today after doing my 2nd dose yesterday. A little of the food noise is back too. I’m trying to eat healthy snacks to get me through it and I’m finding I’m full quickly which is good. But it doesn’t last long before I’m hungry again. Wasn’t expecting this
