Hi, just for anyone who's asking for pharmacies policies on maintenance, I've just received an email from Cloud pharmacy and this is so far the best stance I've seen anywhere. Some other pharmacies offer maintenance but Cloud seem to be the first I've seen to finally outrightly state "for life" rather than 'We'll see how it goes', 'Well have a consultation and discuss your options', 'Let's have a chat', 'You have to pay a small fee to stay on our books while you're on maintenance', 'We're happy to work with you for maintenance and we take it individually', etc. I also know they offer one month on and one month off for maintenance from what some people on reddit are on. I hope more pharmacies get on board this "for life" stance rather than beating about the bush or being limited to a certain bmi cutoff or taper.

Just wanted to post this so others can have an idea and decide for themselves as it's mostly been one or two popular pharmacies that posters constantly advertise all over the MJ forums. I use Cloud and they're excellent so far. They're on the monj.co uk list and others lists too. I'll definitely stay with them for maintenance when the time comes. No referral codes and they give discounts to their customers without you doing anything for it, so I have no skin in the game. I definitely have nothing to gain from posting, just sharing to help others.

Feel free to share other pharmacies maintenance policy on this thread if you have any in writing. It will help us all to know who to go with for support. X

My favourite is 'hopefully Mounjaro will give you the time to develop healthy habits.' Oushk was saying this only a few months ago despite all the data pointing to the fact that obesity is a chronic disease caused by multiple complex bio/psycho/social factors and often requires a medical approach rather than a woman's magazine approach. I'm very cynical but I'm old, jaded and done with diet culture! Don't get me started on those that say Glp1s can be a good thing BUT everyone should be offered counselling....

Rant over!

We need to do a specific bingo card addressing the maintenance pearls of wisdom…. but yes top of the list has to be that oft-rolled out phrase about the need to “learn healthy habits”.

I imagine it’s a bit of a difficult path to tread as a prescriber because they don’t want to come across like they’re suggesting we all need to stay on it for life. And of course there are plenty of MJ users who do believe they were at fault, have now apparently learnt said healthy habits, and are happy to tell the rest of us exactly how it’s possible to take all this learning and happily maintain.

izzy2076 · 05/01/2025 11:22

@85reasons I love the idea of a maintenance bingo card! Cut out UPF foods and pick up some dumbbells! One of my favourites is that weight lifting will resolve metabolic issues. I've been lifting heavy for 15 years and it didn't really touch the sides once I hit peri menopause in terms of weight loss. Although I'm a huge advocate for its benefits.

For a small minority (possibly those who have only been obese short term) it may be a matter of embedding healthy habits. But for the vast majority, we are not to blame. This was such an epiphany for me when starting MJ.

RightOnTrack · 05/01/2025 11:23

Re: Oushk and the woman's magazine approach: Considering their Facebook group, I think Oushk have 'accidentally' found themselves a target audience and Mounjaro is just now a side show! 😅 That motivational speaking jargon is right up their street. Maybe they'll rebrand to 'The Oushkers', as some of the members have so named themselves already.

A maintenance motivational speech bingo card sounds fab!

It's a shame rhat till now more pharmacies are not open or clear about supporting long term maintenance. So far, we've really only got Cloud, Pharmulous and Oushk, as a definite yes. At this rate, the three of them will get inundated too with new customers and hopefully won't start having issues due to demand like medexpress.

@RightOnTrack I saw on Reddit that IQ Doctor will prescribe below BMI 23 and although they can't guarantee indefinite prescription, they have no time limits.

So far I've opened accounts with 1) TFC for first order 2) Oushk for orders 2, 3, 4 and 3) IQ Doctor for last two. I'm currently at BMI 26 so think I'm going to have to make a decision at some point soon.

Greentrilby · 05/01/2025 11:59

I had a really good chat with my provider (Bolt) a couple of weeks ago about maintenance and feel confident for the future. They are happy to prescribe on an ad hoc basis for maintenance as long as I don’t go too long between orders. No monthly subscription needed and I felt their approach was sensible. So I’ll see how it goes but I’m not at the stage where I’m ready to stop taking altogether. Their cut off is a BMI of 22 which I don’t think I want to get down to, but I know I can arrange a phone call at any time to discuss my dosage and maintenance.

Yes - that message has been huge for me. It's not our fault (cue all the fat-haters rolling their eyes and saying "whatever gets you through...").

I don't think many people believe the "obesity is a disease" line at all - even large numbers of those suffering from it.

Bolt sounds promising with the ad hoc prescription with no monthly fee ties, though i think they need to define what is 'too long' so people know what the expectations clearly are.

@85reasons That's true. The Family Chemist, IQ doctor, Cloud, Oushk, Pharmulous, Bolt.

Good point @RightOnTrack i didn’t clarify that.

Possibly but then there might be quite a few who just come off at their goal weight, if they re-gain they might just start again at a higher weight? Time will tell I guess.

Orangesandlemons77 · 05/01/2025 13:33

Also I think the Med express issue was a lot to do with discounts which wouldn't apply here.

Orangesandlemons77 · 05/01/2025 13:34

Simple online pharmacy have also offered me a call to discuss maintenance when I get to that stage, said they would do this on a case by case basis.

DarkForces · 05/01/2025 14:06

My daily calorie need is 1413 at 5'3 and 12 stone 10. It'll only go down as I lose weight and muscle can only help so much. Thank goodness for Mounjaro. I can finally be a healthy weight and will definitely need to be on it or another drug long term to maintain

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 05/01/2025 10:46

@85reasons@izzy2076 I think this is the attitude that really put me off TFC tbh. Someone on Reddit posted an email from them regarding maintenance and making healthy changes containing the outstanding advice to ‘chew more slowly’…

Which company said this 🙀

This is their response to me

@RightOnTrack is compiling a list, @Blondeshavemorefun - so far we have

The Family Chemist, IQ doctor, Cloud, Oushk, Pharmulous, Bolt.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 05/01/2025 20:22

@Blondeshavemorefun TFC. The Family Chemist.

IReallyNeedThisToWork · 05/01/2025 20:23

@85reasons take The Family Chemist off any list about staying on MJ long term. They have stated they want people to build healthy habits (like chewing slowly!) and come off!

85reasons · 05/01/2025 20:58

@IReallyNeedThisToWork Then they shall be removed immediately!

RightOnTrack · 05/01/2025 21:00

So for long term maintenance, we have IQ doctor, Cloud, Oushk, Pharmulous, Bolt.

Reading this again and GOOD GRIEF it's so annoying - has ANYONE ever even remotely found it helpful to try to chew their food more slowly to help them lose weight? What a joke!

IrisPallida · 05/01/2025 22:39

Pharmacists. Exactly who you would go to for dietary advice, eh?

izzy2076 · 06/01/2025 05:31

@85reasons try eating from a smaller plate. I lost ten stone simply by eating mindfully from a saucer.

85reasons · 06/01/2025 06:39

@izzy2076 it's a miracle! 😁The problem is that as a society we're so bought into this culture of celebrating and needing to share (or make money from) any new technique or method of weight loss anyone's had success from. I saw a headline come up this morning from the Telegraph with a story of a woman who 'successfully lost 3 stone and kept it off for 10 years'. It's basically click bait - a quick read showed that this amazing feat was achieved by doing Slimfast shakes - how is this news, in the Telegraph, in 2025?!

I think I've been guilty of it too in the past, of thinking I've cracked the code in terms of how to lose and maintain weight loss. Whether that be from low carb, keto, from manic exercise, from most recently the Human Being Diet and eating three small meals a day with no UPFs. You see it on here too, with people solemnly sharing their top tips for maintaining once they're at goal (my favourite being 'you only need to weigh daily! Then it can never get out of control again!').

The penny just hasn't dropped that for so many of us, it's not about losing the weight, or managing to keep it off for 3 months afterwards. It's about the long term, the eternal cycle (for me it would be every 2-3 years) of losing and then gaining the weight back. Of feeling as though every time I lost the weight, I was walking a tightrope of obsessive tracking and good behaviour (and daily weighing 😬) until eventually life would get in the way and I'd spiral back to old habits. Because it essentially felt like a battle against my body and my appetite and desire/need to overeat.

And now we've had the realisation that it was never our fault. My weight loss has slowed a lot since I decided I am done with diet culture and I've actually been enjoying eating what I like, just this time in moderation and generally more healthily but with no restriction. I'm (mostly!) okay with that, because I know this is going to be a long-term thing for me, and it's much nicer that way rather than being still in the obsessive tracking, eating 'special foods' like protein powders, mindset.
