Whah!

It's Chinese gate for me, and a buffet with cheese, and liquorice, and chocolate. Mind you, it's not been the quantity I would have eaten before MJ....

NippyCrab · 19/12/2024 09:28

You're still fine to have chocolate and crisps in moderation, we still need to live a good life and be happy. It's so strange as I loved milk chocolate, now it doesn't appeal to me at all, I prefer dark at the moment, the higher cocoa the better for taste. My taste buds have completely changed. After food I often have thoughts of "something sweet" I would normally have chocolate or a scone or cake but even if i buy things when DH is home, I just dont fancy it. I love the Forest Feast dark chocolate almonds, prefer them to a square of chocolate for some reason. If I bought small milk chocolate things like the Malteser reindeer, I'd eat them. I love maltesers. I also think subconsciously I'm afraid of the sugar addiction again, if I start having little things I'm on the slippery slope to failing before I've maintained for a while.
I love stollen and I bought a couple of Lidl things, they are the best! I had one out the packet and was enough, then twice i went to have one and spat it out, it was just horrible in my mouth ffs!
I have rum ones for next week and I also bought some mince pies yesterday, I'm scared to have one in case my stomach is bad. I also bought some custard and didn't have it last night.
I had a shit MH day yesterday and I'm surprised I didn't want to eat more.
Why do our brains work wonky, I've inherited a dodgy brain and fat genes haha xxx

Ultra processed foods like (a lot of) chocolate and crisps are manufactured chemically to be addictive. If you eat them, you'll want to keep eating them. If I eat them, I want to eat more of them. MJ hasn't suppressed my capacity to eat them! What it's done is suppress my general appetite enough so that I find it much easier to avoid eating them as I'm not hungry, so hunger doesn't fuel that craving. Having not eaten them for a while, I don't particularly crave them.

Most of the research into this does show that some people are much more susceptible to the harmful/addictive properties of UPFs than others. So if you're someone who can eat a few Maltesers now and then and, enjoy them, and not be fussed about more, than there's not much problem. I think this means you're also more likely to be the person whose tastes have changed. If you're someone who eats them, wants more and tends to get hooked on them (me) you should avoid them, MJ alone won't be enough to turn off the Malteser love! If you avoid them for a couple of weeks (possibly post-Christmas would be a better time to start 😀) then you'll find you're not craving them any more.

NippyCrab · 19/12/2024 10:22

Understanding how UPF work was a total eye opener for me, I was obsessed listening to podcasts and reading about the body and how it responds. Also how much junk the food we eat contains was shocking to me. I hope i am going to be the person who can have the now and again attitude to food, yesterday because it was a low day i ate a half packet of fruit Mentos one after the other in the van urgh. I know its not a lot of sweets but it's highlighted I'm not controlling my emotions and it's only MJ preventing me from munching. If I don't buy them I won't eat them but I want to have the control to respect my body and have things around I can enjoy in moderation.
I'm just rambling now 😆

I find it pretty depressing @NippyCrab . Realising how horrible the composition of a lot of our food is is upsetting. I'd love to say it makes it easy never to eat them again, but while it helps it doesn't eradicate the desire completely, unfortunately!

morbidcuriosity · 19/12/2024 11:49

I've started to get a few comments now, so obviously noticeable.. but I don't like it, am I the only one??

I read on here some people are upset no one has noticed etc.. but I am the opposite. I hate it!
The worst is have you lost weight? So for fun I said no.. they said yes you have.. (why ask then?) . Lol.
I think it's me, I'd rather be left alone, or not questioned.. no one has asked how have I yet.

Mum0ntherun · 19/12/2024 11:57

Pizzagate for me 🙄. And I don’t even LIKE pizza normally.😳 The kids fancied it and I was so fed up I just took a slice and some wings and boy I am regretting today. I feel full, to feeling sick🤢 in my throat and my stomach hurts so much and all for something I don't enjoy. Definitely an emotional eater though I can't see celery as my go to for comfort 😁

MargoLivebetter · 19/12/2024 11:58

I can't bear it @morbidcuriosity . I would NEVER comment on someone's weight. I hate it when people say it to me too. It often ends up sounding either patronising or like an accusation, neither of which are good things to be on the receiving end of.

I'll say someone looks well, or compliment their outfit, necklace, hairdo etc, but I think weight should not be up for comment. Obviously if I'm invited by a friend to chat about their weightloss, then I'm not going to be all righteous and not comment, but I will only say something if specifically requested to do so.

Mum0ntherun · 15/12/2024 22:38

This is my beautiful boy who passed away today and I am beyond heartbroken - not sure I've ever cried so much. I really want several large glasses of wine to numb the pain but the suppression is so strong today that I can't drink more than a sip. Who'd have thought I’d regret being on MJ!!!

So sorry for your loss, Mum0ntherun - all of us with dogs know how you're feeling.

AugustMounjaroTeam · 19/12/2024 12:13

Seam twisting is normally poorly sewn jeans @Princessandthepie , not any fault of your body's - I have one pair that does this on one leg, and it drives me demented. Fortunately, they're probably too big now! 😃

I think I've always been a lurker on this thread, as far as talking about my own progress goes (although have responded to some threads that touched a note with me). Have been following along though.

I started 23rd August, and did a sneaky weigh in on Tuesday because my usual Saturday weigh-in left me 0.5lb short of the next stone bracket. That weigh-in put me just 1lb short of a 3 stone loss since starting - hopefully my usual weigh day will see the back of that too.

I have gone from the high 18s to the 15s, a number I've not seen for many years. Bar a bit of constipation on and off, Mounjaro has been trouble free for me. I started with Voy, but the coaching part was entirely lost on me, as actually I've just been thoroughly enjoying the fact that I don't spend my life thinking about eating any more - it is very liberating.

Is this really it, I keep asking myself? Is this actually going to be the solution that gets me to a healthy weight and enables me to stay there?! It certainly feels like it at the moment. Fingers crossed that my body keeps tolerating it well and stays on the path it's on.

I started thinking that I'd probably be on it for up to a year, but am at peace with any maintenance requirements now - would rather not have to be on it long term, but I can certainly live with it if needed.

weaseleyes · 19/12/2024 12:20

Well done @AugustMounjaroTeam! From the 18s to the 15s feels a massive difference!

I had a work thing earlier this week which I knew would involve seeing people I hadn't seen for months or years. I was dreading people commenting on weight loss, but fortunately only one person did, in quite a nice way. I said it wasn't so much that I'd lost weight as that I'd put on a lot during the pandemic and it was slowly going away, which seemed to satisfy them. Ironically, I saw another colleague who has clearly had quite a big weight loss in the last few months. I was privately assuming he'd probably been using MJ, but obviously didn't comment. However, someone else said to him, 'OMG! You've lost so much weight! Was it intentional?' in a very concerned way. I was cringing on his behalf, but luckily he seemed delighted it had been noticed and said it was intentional, so we congratulated him and he looked very pleased. Shows how difficult it is to get it right for everyone, I guess.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/12/2024 12:33

Malteasers are nice

I did calorie them and still in my days allowance. Just so guessing not that bad

And even have some protein in them

Before mj I would eat 2/3 a day but it's me saying no. Not mj if that makes sense as I don't have the calories left

Awww @morbidcuriosity take it as a compliment - think you have lost a lot Havnt you ?

It's like holidays - you say going away. People reply oh. Going anywhere nice

It's just a way people reply iyswim

Take the compliment

@Mum0ntherun so weird a slice of pizza can do that to you

I can eat pizza as lol g as not chilli chicken which was too hot for me and no comeback

Well done @AugustMounjaroTeam That's fab 18 to 15

Same as me. Well 17 to 14 well top end of 13 now

Be proud

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/12/2024 12:43

@weaseleyes OMG! You've lost so much weight! Was it intentional? How ?

Someone said this to me last week at school

But they know dh and I have split so she thought it was that. I said no I meant to and done via counting calories

weaseleyes · 19/12/2024 13:20

@Blondeshavemorefun I thought it was such a risky question on my colleague's part, because what if the answer was no, it wasn't intentional, I've been really ill - it would have been very awkward. Still, luckily for me, his weight loss was much more evident, so it deflected attention from mine!

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/12/2024 13:22

I haven't really seen anyone lose a lot of weight near me

But if I did not sure I would imm think mj

Mine has been since April or so

So not like 3/4s in few months

Princessandthepie · 19/12/2024 13:28

@AugustMounjaroTeam serves me right for buying £9 jeans from primark!

My appetite is so low at the moment but I seem to be surviving on tea and digestive biscuits as I need to eat something but I can't be bothered to cook or sort anything.

I feel ill with this cold and just so run down!! It's been 4 years in a row that we are all sick at Xmas and I'm so fed up with it! I've just had to get DD from school as she's running a temperature, DH is sick, DS is still snotty!!

Really beginning to loathe Xmas!

weaseleyes · 19/12/2024 13:29

I probably just thought it because MJ is uppermost in my mind, but it was very noticeable and sudden in his case. I think a lot depends how you carry it, though. I've spent large chunks of my life overweight and so I carry it everywhere, but I think he is probably someone who put on weight later in life so it was on his face and stomach. Losing it made a very drastic difference.

Sorry things sound tough at the moment. 💐💐💐

Princessandthepie · 19/12/2024 13:39

Thanks @Blondeshavemorefun

We've had better days, but the sickness just doesn't seem to end, DH and DS have been ill for a few weeks now. I, somehow, had avoided it but now I have it! Urgh!!

morbidcuriosity · 19/12/2024 13:50

I just say yeah, look at them blankly and say, been on a diet.. as if its the most normal thing . I've had no comeback from that. I'm 4lb off of 3 stone loss, but still very much overweight, got another 2.5 stone to go which I feel is going to take so much longer.. but I have to say 7.5mg is really kicking my arse, such strong suppression, tempted to go down to 5mg for my next pen as I have both 5 and 7.5 in the fridge..

I'm some days slacking big time on calories and that can't be good for me..

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/12/2024 14:31

Think I've said before you are my twin @morbidcuriosity

So many are coming to the end and that's amazing but I still have ideally another 2.5a to go to get back to what I was 25yrs ago

Whether I get there and look ok if another thing

But that still brings me to top of bmi

morbidcuriosity · 19/12/2024 14:54

Yes @Blondeshavemorefun I think we started about same weight if I remember correctly. My aim is 6 stone loss, that takes me to 12stone 6.. which will be right on the bottom of overweight just creeping into healthy .. but I think any less won't look good on me as I've always been big and just over 5 foot 10 don't help! .
It's a little sad when you see people starting at 12 stone 6 but I must remember they are shorter..

Changinghabits1973 · 19/12/2024 14:55

Afternoon all - hope all of you are ok...
I have a spare 10 minutes so whilst i am sipping on my green tea i thought i would just update you guys as to how the xmas party lunch went yesterday !
Gosh, as i was driving there i was so apprehensive, nervous, my palms were sweating, i felt so sick with anxiety etc... but once i was in the function room away from all the people in the bar restaurant area i seemed to settle a bit and took my 42oz water bottle with me and placed that straight on the table so kept sipping on that to calm me further...!! Everyone was drinking Prosecco on arrival etc and there was wine on the table but i don't really like alcohol so it wasn't a problem at all...

The food was lovely; i had prawn cocktail to start with and followed by roast beef (i dont like turkey..) The beef was lovely.. i had parsnips carrots and broccoli, one roast potato because they weren't that great.. and a bit of stuffing and one pig in blanket; i left the massive yorkshire pudding (i was tempted though and the second pig in blanket) and then it was creme brulee for desert which i gave away - I didn't feel bad though as i was trying my best to eat as much as i can but I just didn't want to feel poorly for the rest of the day and this was like 12 noon and my stomach is not used to eating all of that at that time of the day !

The dress looked (i think!!) really lovely... I felt possibly the most confident i have felt since around 2005 and it was a great feeling... I had heaps of comments on the dress and how well i looked .. although someone outrightly asked me how I was losing my weight? So i just said that i was mindful of what i was eating and i was exercising more which isn't a lie but i am certainly not telling anyone about MJ (there are only 3 close friends that know..) It went on all afternoon until early evening and i actually had a nice time.. Santa even came to visit so that was nice !

Anyway lovelies, have a lovely rest of the day and looking forward to my squid and salad for dinner again tonight ! I am now going to attempt making mince pies from scratch this afternoon, 3 dozen of them, (have never done this before but it will keep me distracted this afternoon..) and am going to take them into where i work tomorrow for the homeless/women in crisis ... It wont be a temptation for me because I don't like them ! xx
