I just did my first injection and feeling almost euphoric if that isn’t too dramatic?! Just so hopeful that this might be the answer for me 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞

I totally get it! First day of a huge change 😁😁 congratulations!!

Weird one, but does anyone get foam burps on MJ? It's not acid, doesn't hurt but is uncomfortable. It happens to me all the time after eating and was just wondering if it's a thing.

WeAllHaveWings · 05/01/2025 18:52

Never heard anything described as "foam" burps @alwaysscared .

Thoughts that come to mind -

Portions too large? With slowing of stomach emptying food might be (sorry TMI) coming back up a little? Maybe try smaller portions more regularly?

Drinking too much water around mealtimes? Stomach doesn't have capacity as everything moving slowing through it?

Are you taking anything like peppermint capsules? These are intended to dissolve in the intestines and not the stomach. If they do dissolve in the stomach they can relax the valve at the top of the stomach that keeps food down (I read this when I looked into them and found they could make acid reflux worse).

Does it happen more with specific food types? I have heard sulphur burps could be specific foods fermenting in stomach with the slower emptying, maybe foam burps are food type specific too.

Sorry not any help really!

alwaysscared · 05/01/2025 18:56

@WeAllHaveWings thanks, they are weird!
I'm not eating big portions at all but I do drink a lot of sparkling water, so could be that!
They aren't bad enough to put me off, just wanted to see if anyone else had had them

WeAllHaveWings · 05/01/2025 19:03

Could be the sparkling water @alwaysscared , easy one to eliminate for a short time to test. I know I haven't had any fizzy drinks since I started, I had some over Christmas as they just made me uncomfortable so haven't had any since.

Kay2000 · 05/01/2025 19:05

Well I did my first injection today, having weighed and measured myself. I knew how much I weighed obviously for the prescription and I know I’m very large but still got a fright when I did my measurements, the tape measure only just goes round me at my biggest bit and my thighs are well over what my waist was in my 20s and my boobs now need moving out the way to measure where my waist used to be 😱. I really hope MJ helps me to lose weight and stick to a healthy eating plan long term. We eat well mostly but our quantity has become far too much but snacking is where I do the damage. Looking forward to that food noise being suppressed! I’ve been really worried about side effects, which has put me off trying it, as I already have chronic fatigue, cervical spondylosis and osteoarthritis as well as post menopausal issues. But reducing my weight will help some of that and I need to focus on that long term goal.

alwaysscared · 05/01/2025 19:07

@WeAllHaveWings I'll give it up for a bit, see if that helps

i did mine today and felt terrified, it took me an hour to stop shaking 😂. But happy that I was brave enough to try it after dithering for the past year.

Are you still eating the frozen jelly babies, and are they combining with the sparkling water for fruity, foamy burps? Well done on your progress, hope all is improving and going well.

alwaysscared · 05/01/2025 19:20

@Swissrollover yes, I'm still having jelly babies, I limit myself even more now. The burps happen with any food I eat. It's possibly the sparkling water, I'll give it a miss for a while

@Kay2000

I have a similar set of needs to you. In my case it's ME, spinal curvature (kypholordosis- think letter S), a wrecked spine and some other stuff besides. I'm a wheelchair user because life's 100% better that way.

The only side effect I have got from the MJ is that I am very, very sensitive to cold now and I am pretty much permanently cold. That's always been a ME thing to an extent for me but it's sort of gone into overdrive. To put it in perspective my house is 23 degrees, I'm on the sofa wearing a jumper, woolly cardigan, thermal leggings, thick woolly socks, 2 blankets, a duvet and an assortment of my son's special cuddly toys. I'm only just warm but my hands are freezing. DH is wearing a t shirt and shorts by comparison. I'd crank the heating up another degree but I can't deal with listening to DH and the kids moan about living in the tropics!

I’ve gone really cold and tired in the past hour and my husband is saying he isn’t, although that’s normal for me like you! Interesting. We bought a push wheelchair for our hols in September and it was amazing, hubby said it was great to have me with him rather than left on a bench, but it was a bit scary travelling at speed (I’m slow…) at the same level as dogs 😂 I might get an electric one at some point or a scooter, but if I can get my weight below 18 stone the choice is so much wider and cheaper. That’s some goal isn’t it, fit into a wheelchair and get the tape measure to go round me 🤦‍♀️ 😬

alltablenochairs · 05/01/2025 19:55

My chair is a powerchair- we self funded it after thr NHS offered me a small wheeled, push around wheelchair. Very practical when you have small children. Not. I got my chair at a time when I had very little independence, liberty or freedom. Since getting the chair I've basically got my life back. I have absolutely zero regrets- even DH said I should have got it sooner than I should have done. It was far from cheap though but I needed some very specific things from my chair which pushed the price up.

The starting point for a lot of chairs is the seat width which is usually measured in inches. Weight limits are a secondary thing. Yeah, thats exactly what it sounds like. I know exactly how big my backside is in inches necause DH had to measure it. It was also a source of much hilarity to my youngest (he has LD's and is much younger cognitively than his actual age).

As for goals, whatever works for you is what's important. One of my goals is to lose enough weight to replace my hoist sling (I often need mechanical assistance to transfer) from the thick, NHS issue 'spacer' fabric to parasilk. I'm almost there.

You need a hated throw in your life, plug it in, they have a pretty long cord and then just sit wrapped in it like a cozy cocoon. I have this one for the sofa and it's lasted a couple of years so far,

www.amazon.co.uk/Warmer-Electric-200x130cm-Controller-Settings/dp/B07XLRGM4L?th=1

then I've a smaller one for over my lap at my desk while I work.

InfoSecInTheCity · 05/01/2025 20:19

Oops heated throw, not hated throw

alltablenochairs · 05/01/2025 21:10

Oooooooh, @InfoSecInTheCity I have lots of heated things already- crappy joints and all of that. I dont have one of those yet though. Wonder if I could sneak a heated throw into the house and hope DH doesn't notice?!?!?

Darlinghag · 05/01/2025 21:14

I second a heated throw!! Love mine, any heated things are great, you can even get gilets and for hands - these like electric hand muffs!

BingoWingsOverScotland · 05/01/2025 23:45

Heated throws are AWESOME! I have the Dreamland Husky one which actually also looks quite cool. Also, electric blanket, and heated pad to put feet on when WFH - I have circulation issues after chemotherapy and my feet are permanently chilly.
