I feel like I'm in a rut.

Have gone up and down the past 3 weeks with the same lb.

Week 8 I started 7.5mg to try to kickstart. Food noise definitely better than it had been. I'm working out 3-4 times a week and feel good in myself but the scales aren't getting lighter and the jeans aren't getting looser!

SW: 18,7
Pre MJ SW: 16,10
CW: 15,7
GW: 10,7

Weight loss on MJ to date 1st 3lbs

RobinEllacotStrike · 20/11/2024 11:34

keep going @peonym
I think all of us expereince this at one point or another - I had about 5 weeks bobbing around the same weight. But still I am losing overall.
Keep exercising, keep in calorie deficit, keep well hydrated and trust the process.

Things will move for you.

WeeklyJab · 20/11/2024 11:42

@VelociraptorsVelociRapping and @RobinEllacotStrike (love that user name!) -
The pasta loving offspring are away at university. DH is more of a meat and potatoes type - not helpful when I don’t eat meat!

With my portions being so small it doesn’t seem worth making a risotto or pasta just for me. Particularly as I am trying to focus on protein rather than carbs.

I am eating a LOT of chickpea based meals, including a couple of soups and stews with a handful of macaroni chucked in, so that helps. Preserved lemon and chickpea stew, pasta e fagioli with chickpeas as well as borlotti beans, chana masala, Ottolenghi confit chickpeas, roast carrot and chickpea soup.

I do have to remind myself to eat, which has never happened before. All praise MJ for that shift!

peonym · 20/11/2024 11:51

Thank you so much @RobinEllacotStrike that's exactly what I needed to hear 👏🏻

RobinEllacotStrike · 20/11/2024 12:23

@WeeklyJab funny enough I have been very inspired by Cormoran Strike's efforts to lose weight in the last 2 Strike books.

I have very old ankle & knee injuries that were causing me daily pain and starting to inhibit movement. Nothing on a par with being an amputee of course, but the weight was absolutely making things worse and starting to limit my life - and it was all kind of self inflicted. I knew if I didn't act now (age 57) things were only going to get worse for me, and reading Strike addressing his own health/weight issues was strangely inspirational bless him 😁

KittensUnderTheDuvet · 20/11/2024 12:31

Wow, so many inspiring losses and NSVs on here! Massively well down to everyone sticking with it even through the occasional frustrating plateau.

I’m now 4.5 weeks in and 11.8kg / 26lb down.

SW: 155.3kg (BMI 47.9)
CW: 143.5kg (BMI 44.3)
GW: 75kg (BMI 23.1)

Really pleased with the progress so far, though the scales have been a bit stubborn the past few days. Side effects have been minimal — just the odd sulfur burp and some constipation — but nothing unmanageable. I moved up from 2.5mg to 5mg a week early because suppression wasn’t great and food noise was creeping back in. The 5mg seem to work better, although I’ve been feeling a bit hungrier recently — might be the colder weather or just my menstrual cycle. I’m also a bit bored of the low-carb life. Unlike others, I sadly can’t claim to have gone off pasta, bread, rice and potatoes. Still craving those and missing crispy and doughy textures, although I do feel better and lose weight much more easily on a low-carb diet.

Also seeing some encouraging NSVs:

  • I can zip up my warm puffa coat again — it used to gape massively and wouldn’t close.
  • A new pair of short wellies that pinched my calves just 4 weeks ago are now much comfier. I suspect I’ve got stage 2 lipoedema based on the symptoms and photos I’ve seen. It could be wishful thinking, but the swelling seems to have gone down a bit, and my cankles look slightly less pronounced.
  • The fuzz on my upper lip, which I used to wax every few weeks, has almost disappeared — hardly growing back at all!
  • Inflammation is way down — no morning stiffness, no knee or hip pain (which used to flare up after being on my feet too much).
  • My skin is looking clearer.
  • I feel much more motivated to get moving — I’m doing 5–7 mile walks about three times a week and actually enjoying them!
  • My ADHD symptoms are noticeably better — my brain feels calmer and more focused.

For the first time in ages, I’m feeling hopeful about a slimmer future, though there’s still such a long way to go. I do wish I could enjoy the process more, but life’s a bit stressful at the moment. We’re having an absolute nightmare with our house sale and dealing with a massive bridging loan, which has been giving me some sleepless nights. That said, without the MJ, I’d probably be comfort-eating nonstop and doom-scrolling all day, so that’s definitely progress.

I fell off the last thread weeks ago but wanted to say a quick thanks to @Timetofindme for the Lomo Prime wetsuit recommendation — it looks fab! It’s the first reasonably priced proper plus-size wetsuit I’ve come across and is definitely on my list for a future purchase (once I’m off my self-imposed shopping ban). I’ll revisit in the new year.

Also, thanks to @RobinEllacotStrike for that fascinating article about bioprene! I’ve noticed I can last much longer in cold water than my much slimmer DH, and I’ve done a bit of winter swimming on holiday in Sweden, which I loved. I hope I can steel myself enough to try it again this winter, maybe a few miles from home to avoid bumping into any dog-walking neighbours.

Oh, and to add my two cents to the cottage cheese discussion—my favourite way to have it (always full-fat, never fat-free) is as a sweet breakfast or dessert. It’s lovely with a roasted plum compote spiced with cinnamon.

RobinEllacotStrike · 20/11/2024 12:41

@KittensUnderTheDuvet I am sadly feeling a reduction in my bioprene this week. I am absolutely feeling the cold a bit more than other winters and I think its down to less body fat.

Its OK, I will adapt. I mean its sad for my cold water warmth, but not sad for my life overall. But it is interesting - this week the water temp is dropping and I don't seem to get to the "Oh I can stay in here all day" stage.

After moving to Hot Pod Yoga just over a week ago, and going every day for a week, I am feeling a new strength in my yoga practice, and many moves I struggled with just a week ago, I could do this moring - or at least I'm seeing progress.

Considering I wanted to throw up every time I bent forward in August, the progress I am making in my physical yoga practice is very wonderful & encouraging.

RobinEllacotStrike · 20/11/2024 12:43

and that is a fantastic loss Kittens!!

RobinEllacotStrike · 20/11/2024 12:44

I have no basis for this whatsoever, but I keep telling myself that the cold water will help reduce cellulite 😁😁
Its a happy delusion

KittensUnderTheDuvet · 20/11/2024 13:02

@RobinEllacotStrike Well, even in the best-case scenario, I’ll still have a good few months if not years of carrying around plenty of bioprene, so really, no excuse not to give it a go! And I’m telling myself exactly the same re. cellulite and cold water and refuse to let go of that particular delusion!

I’m very impressed with your yoga skills — sounds brilliant! I gave yoga a go a few years back, and honestly, it was a bit of a disaster. Despite weighing a lot less back then and being a fair bit younger than most of the group, I just couldn’t keep up. The teacher was ridiculously sneery, which made the whole thing painfully awkward. Not exactly rushing to relive that experience anytime soon, but hats off to anyone who can manage it!

RobinEllacotStrike · 20/11/2024 13:08

I'll have enough bioprene to get me through the worst of this winter. Next winter will be a different story.

That is a shame about your yoga disaster - the teacher sounds not great. They do vary. A good class/teacher can teach all levels within one class, will offer modifications, and tach that yoga is a personal practice, not a competition. I make modifications to accommodate my belly/thighs etc that a slimmer person wouldnt have to make. A good teacher will encourage and support all levels.
I find yoga not only physically amazing, but mentally & emotionally too. Plus its in this big purple inflatable tent that they heat up - its so nice. Like being in a big cosy womb with a soft floor, lots of heat and comfort.

WeAllHaveWings · 20/11/2024 13:45

I went for my annual checkup with the nurse at my Drs surgery yesterday and I have been catapulted back up to Severe Obesity (Class II) 😭. I haven't measured my height for years (decades!) and always assumed I was still 5ft 10in (178cm), turns out I am 5ft 8.5in (174cms) 😱

So an adjustment to my starting and last Saturdays weigh in stats and I now have 9lbs still to go to really get into to Obese (Class I) 🙈

End of week - 21 (5 x 2.5mg, 16 x 3.75mg)
SW - 21st 5lbs BMI 42.8 44.8
CW - 17st 4lbs BMI 34.6 36.3
Losses - 10,2,2,4,1,3,3,3,1,3,2,2,3,3,2,3,3,2,1,4,0
Total loss - 4st 1lbs (57lbs), 19%
Current Target - 17st by Christmas🎄 (5 weeks, 4lbs to go!)
New Target - 16st 9lbs and BMI <35 by Christmas🎄(5 weeks, 9lbs to go!)

I feel strangely pissed off about it all night and this morning even though nothing has really changed except that BMI number and feeling a bit stupid about celebrating Obesity (Class I) 2 weeks ago both here and with my SIL! 😳

New target is to get there by Christmas!

Darlinghag · 20/11/2024 14:37

Can anyone recommend 1ml syringe 4mm needles please? Need some for my bonus doses, but can only find 6-10mm on amazon! I will get 6mm if i can’t get 4mm I guess but hoped you could help!

thanks!

RobinEllacotStrike · 20/11/2024 14:43

I have 13mm ones - yikes! They look gigantic but are OK to use

TorturedParentsDepartment · 20/11/2024 14:49

I've got 2lb yo-yoing back on and off with the same level of indecision if they belong on my fat arse as a pair of first-time-buyers on a property show at the moment. Jab day for number 4 on 2.5mg tomorrow but I'm not so much suffering from a reappearance of food noise, as food having a full choral concert with a speaker stack they've nicked from a Taylor Swift concert.

I shall continue to trust the process and the yo-yo couple of lb will take the hint eventually.

Ouch! I am not that brave haha. I’m not great with needles, although ok with the pen these days, so was hoping to replicate the needle so it didn’t cause me any angst!

Doggymummar · 20/11/2024 14:55

I forgoT about you guys, you are doing so well. I hit the 4 stone loss earlier this week. So hopefully I won't see 200 popping up on the scales ever again. Gonna get me some of the cottage cheese!

Snozzlemaid · 20/11/2024 15:06

Weigh in and jab day for me.
I've reached 13 stone 13lbs this morning.
I was last 13 stone something in 2007, so I'm bloody delighted to see this. Can't quite believe it at times.

Total loss now 4 stone 7lbs. 😃

RobinEllacotStrike · 20/11/2024 15:15

wow Snozzle that is amazing!

morbidcuriosity · 20/11/2024 16:05

Well done @Snozzlemaid . I'm trailing behind you.. so close to seeing a 14 on them scales . A 13 seems so far away. But I reckon I can see a 14 in a couple weeks.

We are twins! I hit 13 13 this week too marking a 4 stone 1 pound loss so far. Last seen the 13s in 2008/1009 I think.
It's starting to seem real now and I'm really enjoying how I look and my wardrobe.
I had upped my ozempic dose a few weeks ago to 1.25 as I felt I didn't have much suppression. I reduced down last week to 1.12 and this week to 1mg as I felt awful and could hardly eat. I lost 10.5 pounds in 3 weeks but it didn't feel right at all. I'm glad that I knew to reduce back down myself and didn't became enthralled with the faster weight loss. That's another win for glp1 medications. I won't be falling off any wagons or having internal food battles with myself so I don't feel the need to capitalise losses at any cost.
Normal meal time hunger is returning this week and its very welcome. Hunger means I'll eat, eating nutritious food means my body is energised and glp1 means I won't overeat. It's a very different weight loss experience. I still have to put in effort and eat wisely, exercise, listen to my body and not change every previous diet mindset I had.
These injections are amazing tools, the way they work on food noise is like granting freedom I never knew existed.

AlhambraQueen · 20/11/2024 16:22

Hi everyone, took my first dose today. Determined to lose as much as I cam before my 40th next year.

I think the teacher and I took an instant dislike to each other, so it was probably doomed from the start. It also felt like he wasn’t too thrilled about having someone bigger in his class, so I was just a bit unlucky there. That said, looking out at the snow from my window, the idea of a big heated purple tent does sound pretty tempting right now!
May I ask - do the classes you attend include things like meditation or chanting? That sort of thing just isn’t for me, I’m afraid. The same goes for the stereotypical hippy-dippy, esoteric-loving crowd that yoga often seems to attract. I’d love to improve my flexibility and range of movement, though. If I ever give yoga another go, I’ll need to find a class that’s purely focused on exercise - if that’s even a thing. Or maybe I should be looking at pilates instead.

Ouch! I am not that brave haha. I’m not great with needles, although ok with the pen these days, so was hoping to replicate the needle so it didn’t cause me any angst!

@Darlinghag Like Robin, I also have 13mm needles. I tried to do the hard twist, but the plunger broke and all my small local pharmacy had where 29G 13mm insulin syringes. They look a bit scary but I couldn’t feel a thing and it was completely fine. I say this as someone who is also terrible with needles!

Amazing losses, snozzlemaid and 40coats, you must be over the moon! I’d love to fit back into my 2008 clothes (I’ve actually kept quite a few, but that’s still a very long way off for me). Before our recent move, I sorted through several boxes of old (but barely worn) clothes from a good 15 years ago and was shocked how everything (even cheapish highstreet stuff) is so much better quality than the things that are currently in the shops.

RobinEllacotStrike · 20/11/2024 16:42

HotPod Yoga isn't too hippy dippy - most of the classes are quite dynamic though, so its a good workout. Teachers ahve been super supportive & encouraging.
I've got a 2 week trial pass but will 100% sign up month by month moving forwards.

I have now bought these as I didn't like the look of the 8mm syringe when they arrived! 😳 But I haven't had to use them yet - my next bonus dose/hard twist is this Saturday, but I will only use the syringe if I really need too.

I am a huge needle wimp 😳, and I don't like the idea of needles off Amazon, the 8mm length at medical suppliers or using a needle that might be dulled from piercing the MJ red seal.

Luer lock syringe

https://ukmedi.co.uk/products/1ml-unifix-luer-lock-syringe-unifix-ux1l-ukmedi-co-uk

Needles 4mm and 8mm (both say ok with luer lock - I got the 8mm 30G for withdrawing the medication and a fresh 6mm 31G for injecting, but there is a 4mm 32G too.

https://ukmedi.co.uk/products/30g-yellow-8mm-meso-relle-mesotherapy-needle-meso-relle-aal38-ukmedi-co-uk

Video of using the needles and syringe with very annoying woman (ignore the long part where she talks about using a vial and putting air in etc)

Everything I can see says mesotherapy needles should be the same construction and are ok for subcutaneous injections............ expensive "solution" as buying 3 parts, but (if it works) it pays for itself after one bonus dose.

I guess the 8mm needle part could be missed out if not worried about a slightly dulled needle.
